This is a great clip by Steve Kornacki that explains what states Biden and Trump need to win the Presidency. Helpful for anyone still unsure about which states will be the battleground states this election, who won them last time and how they factor into someone getting 270 electors or enough electors of the electoral college to win the Presidency.

The relevant part starts at the 1:53 mark.

Bump.

@OboOlora,

Just so you know, the history of that area where Tony Elumelu comes from is radically different from the history of the Ibo area East of the River Niger. I've had friends over the years from the Delta North region (Anioma) of Delta State, and I've been reading extensively about the Anioma folks (with 6 LGAs) fascinating history since the late 1980s.

Tony Elumelu is originally from Onicha Uku in Aniocha North LGA of Delta State. Aniocha North LGA shares boundaries with Esanland in Edo State and consists of many towns that were founded centuries back by immigrants from Benin-Edo (Agbor and other parts of Ikaland), Esan-Edo (Idumuje Unor, Idumuje Ugboko, etc), Yoruba (The Olukumis of Ugbodu, Eko Efun aka Ukwu Nzu, Ugboba, etc, all in Aniocha North LGA), Igala (Ebu is where Agatha Amata hails from), Asaba, etc. Acculturation is responsible for the folks there who bear Iboid names or speak dialects with Iboid linguistic infusions as a result of trade interactions and more. This is why many folks in that area will tell you they are NOT Ibos, but a few whose ancestors migrated from across the River Niger to settle or to establish settlements in Oshimili and Aniocha areas will identify as Ibo depending on the town.

So, folks from each town, clan, or quarters know their ancestral ethnic origins and Aniocha North LGA (which is a part of the larger Anioma) consists of folks who are descendants of people (from multiple ethnicities as I earlier stated above) who migrated there within the last 800 years as traders with large trading communities, as warriors from the Bini army or while running away from the political upheavals in Benin or the larger Benin Empire.

Anioma is an acronym that was coined from Aniocha, Ndokwa, Ika, Oshimili.

Hope that helps.

press9jatv:
Bitcoin has reached a new record price of almost $73,000 (£57,000), as the UK financial regulator said it would allow the trading of cryptocurrency-backed securities.

The cryptocurrency hit a fresh high of $72,720 as of Monday evening having last week overtaken its previous November 2021 high of nearly $69,000.

The latest price move came as the UK financial regulator said on Monday it would “not object” to investment exchanges creating a UK-listed market segment for cryptoasset-backed exchange traded notes [cETNs], a financial product that can be traded like a stock.

However, the Financial Conduct Authority said it would not permit the sale of the cETNs to retail investors, or members of the public.

“The FCA continues to remind people that cryptoassets are high risk and largely unregulated. Those who invest should be prepared to lose all their money,” it said in a statement.

Bitcoin has been helped this year by the US financial regulator approving exchange-traded funds [ETFs] – a basket of assets that can be bought and sold like shares on an exchange – that track the price of the cryptocurrency.

The chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Gary Gensler, also expressed scepticism about bitcoin despite the approval, referring to it in January as a “speculative, volatile asset” used for illicit activities including ransomware and terrorist financing.

An upcoming “halving” of bitcoin, in which the amount of new bitcoin being generated is reduced, is also expected to support the currency by causing a reduction in supply – and therefore bolstering the price.

Neil Wilson, the chief analyst at the brokerage Finalto, said the FCA move was a “positive” sign for the cryptocurrency market. He added that “parabolic” market moves – referring to sharp price increases – tended to end in a big pullback but “we cannot be sure with bitcoin any more”.

“There is a question of the amount of spare cash sitting around that can be allocated to it,” he added.

In many SW states, farmers have to pay in advance and wait several weeks before they can find a tractor to use. Instead of these Governors to help out, they're more interested in chasing fictitious 'industrialisation' agenda that yields nothing.

Jogs1900:
Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of 36 cars ‘allegedly stolen’ from Canada and brought to Nigeria.

The judge made the final forfeiture order after granting an application filed and argued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s counsel A. B. Abdul-Rasheed.

The EFCC said the vehicles were recovered from various auto shops in Lagos, such as Lekki-Ajah; Ojodu-Berger; Ikeja; Festac Town; Magodo and Ikota-Lekki.

It said they were recovered following intelligence by Royal Canadian Mounted Police that over 350 cars stolen from Canada were shipped into Nigeria and were on display for sale at different auto shops.

The respondents in the suit marked FHC/L/CS/2051/2023 were Wilmon Autos Nigeria Limited; Ikeoyi Enterprises; Ichie Autos; Bounce Autos; Assured Motors Emeko Auto; CNC Auto; Green Hill Auto; First Core Auto; Samuel Motors; Unique Motors; Nice and Rich Auto; Overall Properties; GIDI Auto and Chris Jane Auto Nigeria Limited.

Some of the forfeited stolen vehicles are a 2017 Model Toyota Rav 4; 2019 Toyota Tacoma 2019; 2019 Lexus RX 350; Lexus RX350; 2019 Model 5 FORD FI50; 2018 Model Honda CRV; 2020 Toyota Tacoma; a Land Rover and a 2020 Lexus RX 350.

Others include a 2016 Toyota 4Runner; a Range Rover; Lexus 460; Ford F150 2018 Model; 2019 Lexus RX 350; 2020 Lexus RX 350; 2021 Lexus RX 350 Sport; Honda Civic Touring; Honda Pilot Suv; 2020 Range Rover Suv; Toyota 4Runner SUV; ToyotaHighlander, and 2018 Toyota Tacoma, amon others.

The court had on November 29, 2023, made an order for the interim forfeiture of the cars, after listening to the EFCC lawyer, who moved the application the same.

While granting the order, the court ordered the EFCC to advertise the orders in a national newspaper for any interested persons or parties to appear before the court to show cause why the cars should not be finally forfeited.

The EFCC counsel informed the court that the forfeiture order had been advertised but no one had come forward to lay claim to the seized vehicles.

Justice Dipeolu after listening to the EFCC lawyer and perusing through the processes, acceded to the request of the anti-graft agency and ordered final forfeiture of the 36 cars.

An EFCC investigator, Olufemi Olukini, in an affidavit filed in support of the suit said “Sometime in April 2022, during an official meeting held at 7A Okoti-Eboh Street, Ikoyi Lagos between officials of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and EFCC officials, RCMP officials passed credible intelligence to the Commission which alleged that over 350 vehicles which werecomprehensively listed out on an excel sheet with their respective vehicle identification Number were stolen from Canada and shipped to Nigeria.

“These vehicles have been sold and/or are being sold on an online website www.jiji.com by some online vendors/agents while others are displayed for sale at various car stands across the country.

“Investigation carried out revealed that a substantial number of the motor vehicles described aforesaid were stolen from Canada and shipped to Nigeria between the years 2019-2021.

Food › Re: Nigerians Experience Relief As Prices Of Sugar, Indomie, Others Drop by Konquest: 10:05pm On Mar 11, 2024
Great100000:
There seems to be some form of relief at the moment for Nigerians, especially those in the low to middle income bracket, who have for some months now been affected by the nationwide food price hike, driven by the sharp inflation and economic pressures across the nation.

In recent months, Nigeria’s inflationary figures have surged astronomically, rising to an all-time high in two decades, to 29.90% in January 2024; with a corresponding 2.64% headline inflation, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Food inflation also rose by 3.21%, with core inflation hitting 2.24%, while urban and rural inflation climbed to 2.72% and 2.57 % respectively, the NBS data showed.

But according to latest market surveys carried out last week around popular markets in the country, there seems to be a reduction in the prices of some food items. Among them is noodles, especially the popular Indomie Instant Noodles.

For instance, a 40-pack carton of Indomie Regular Chicken 70g, which sold for N10,650 now sells for N8,900. Indomie standard pack 100g, which sold for N15,000 now go for N12,300 per carton. In the same vein, the 40-pack carton of Indomie Super Pack Chicken Flavor 120g which sold for N17,950 now sells for N14,700

Other food items whose prices have fallen in the markets surveyed include sugar, rice, beans, semo, spaghetti and macaroni. A 50kg BUA sugar now costs N84,000, a Dangote 50kg sugar goes for N88,000, Stallion Long grain rice which sold for N88,000 now sells for N86,000, while the price for short grain rice fell to N78,000 from N80,000. Fifteen pints of Honeybeans which sold for N78,000 now sells for N75,000, while 32 pints of brown beans now sells for N155,000 as against the previous N165,000.

Confirming this, a wholesale and retail dealer of noodles range of products at the popular Wuse Market, Mrs Debola Tairu, particularly noted that the prices of Indomie Noodles products have come down. “This is very good from Indomie, and I hope other products’ will reduce their prices too”, she said.

Umaru Bello, a roadside fast-food and beverage seller fondly called ‘Mai shai’ at the Kaduna Central Market, also confirmed that the price of Indomie Noodles has come down appreciably, to the delight of his consumers. “Indeed, the price of Indomie has significantly reduced, and this is good for my kind of business, as it had led to more and more of my customers returning”, he remarked enthusiastically.

Analysts believe that the trend will be boosted if government comes through with its promises to work towards arresting the rising cost of food prices around the country. It would be recalled that the Federal Government had last month revealed that it has put in place proactive measures to help tackle food inflation in the country, having set up a Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention following the protests that took place in several cities around the country.

According to a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, some of these measures include unlocking the foods that are available in most of the storage facilities (National Food Reserves) around the country. The government, he said, is also talking to major millers and commodity traders in the country to see what is available in their stores.

In a related development, the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Nigeria Customs Service to return all seized food items to their owners. The items were reportedly confiscated for contravening import and export rules are currently stockpiled at the various Customs warehouses in the country.

Disclosing this at the weekend, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said that the President has also directed that the returned food items must be sold in Nigerian markets. He said that the country currently has an Export Prohibition Act that prohibits the exportation of items such as maize, millet, yam, beans and sorghum, and said that the law will reviewed when the nation becomes self-sufficient in food production.

@CasualObserver,

What you posted is FALSE. Folorunso Alakija was NEVER a hair dresser. I see a lot of younger ones pushing this same false story and mangling history up. Let me explain more here to you and those reading this.

She trained in the UK as a professional secretary, returned to Nigeria from England and worked as a banker at IMB Plaza on Victoria Island, Lagos. She later resigned to take care of her small kids in the early 1980s and proceeded to establish the very famous company Supreme Stitches in Lagos State which was a top fashion design outfit for ready-to-wear clothes and many prominent folks in the society such as Mariam Babangida where her friends. These are facts that I personally witnessed in the 1980s through to the 1990s.

She comes from the wealthy Ogbara family who are indigenes of Ikorodu, Lagos State. Ikorodu is one of the 3 Ijebu LGAs in Lagos State [Ibeju-Lekki LGA and Epe LGA are the other two] and as you might know the Ijebus are one of the wealthiest subgroups among the Yoruba folks and in Nigeria. Her millionaire father even sent Folorunso Alakija and her siblings to school in the UK when she was not even up to 10 years old! So, she took a major risk by bidding for the deep offshore oil well in 1991 with her family members from the Ogbara family and her foreign technical partners and finally found oil in the highly risky deep offshore using FAMFA Oil as a vehicle.

I wrote about this fact just this year when some ethnic bigots and ignorant young ones here on NL (who were obviously NOT born in the 1980s and 1990s) defamatorily wrote that she slept her way with IBB or Abacha to get an oil well which to me is idiotic of these kids and an insult to those of us who knew Mrs. Folorunso Alakija right from the 1980s as a banker, oil mogul, ànd when she started the hugely famous Supreme Stitches which was the first in Nigeria to defined bespoke fashion designing and ready to wear for women. This is the reason why she is also the patron of Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN).

I hope this helps.

Moreover Modupe Alakija (A lawyer who is of Abeokuta aristocratic descent and a direct descendant of Sir. Adeyemo Alakija, Q.C, the founder of the highly read and iconic Daily Times newspaper) still lives in his new house in Ikoyi Island not too far away from Folorunso Alakija's mansion.

It's better for couples that are having differences to separate so as to gain a better perspective of the situation, then RESOLVE to fix the challenges after working on themselves, then they can get back together again. Many long-term marriages have experienced separations of 2, 3, 6 months (and even one year) before they came back together with a better understanding of one another.
