bjdon: Anybody who spends loads of money to come to UK right now, needs their head examined or better yet, serious prayers. The only people who should migrate to the UK, are skilled workers that have secured a JOB from Nigeria. Coming over here to 'hustle' will just leave u depressed, broke and angry. The economy is not in a good shape and will get worse this year. You have been warned O!
SoNature: UK unemployment rises amid ban on foreign health workers from bringing dependants
Unemployment in recession-hit Britain has nudged higher as growth in wages falls further, according to official data Tuesday that supports analyst expectations of an upcoming cut to the United Kingdom (UK) interest rates.
The unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent in the three months to the end of January, up from 3.8 percent in the final quarter of last year, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.
According to AFP, average regular pay growth, excluding bonuses, fell to 6.1 percent from 6.2 percent, the ONS added.
Taking into account Britain’s annual inflation rate during the reporting period, real wages rose by only two percent.
Like the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank, the Bank of England is seen possibly cutting interest rates as soon as June as inflation cools and following multiple hikes to combat soaring prices.
“The easing in wage growth… is probably still a bit too slow for the Bank of England’s liking,” said Paul Dales, chief UK economist at Capital Economics research group.
“But there are encouraging signs that a more marked slowdown is just around the corner and that an interest rate cut in June is possible.”
Meanwhile, reactions have trailed the ban placed on foreign health workers and caregivers from bringing their families to the UK in 2024.
The Secretary of State for the Home Department, James Cleverly, said this in a statement on the Home Office X account on Monday
Cleverly said the UK imposed the ban as part of the plans to reduce migration.
“From today (Monday), care workers entering the UK on Health and Care Worker visas can no longer bring dependants,” Cleverly wrote.
“This is part of our plan to deliver the biggest ever cut in migration,” he added.
Majority of the Africans, Asians and Britons criticised UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for implementing such a policy.
His Triple Cure Vaccine is based on blood transfusion (taking blood and re-injecting it back into the bloodstream of a patient).
Second, Dr. Abalaka claimed in the articles that he NEVER said his blood transfusion vaccine CURES AIDS... It's only preventative against HIV and the two other viruses.
Third, he was also reported in the articles to have said that he is guarding the secret formulation of his vaccine so that it doesn't get stolen by a big pharmaceutical company. The ball is in Abalaka's court because in the grand scheme of things, before the international medical and scientific community can accept a drug treatment on humans, the drugs have to first go through rigorous tests on lab mice, and other experimental phases to avoid severe short-term and long-term reactions in humans.
In the absence of people he has treated not coming out because they fear being stigmatized according to Abalaka, then he has to get MORE folks to believe his findings.
I have neva seen cassava flour dat is been moulded to swallow for food?
What crop is semovita gotten from?
Modified- i thought amala is from plantain flour?
First off, Semolina is originally made from the wheat crop. In recent times though, some big Semolina-producing companies have been using a mixed combo of flours from wheat and maize as part of their in-house research to save cost and without compromising the Semolina quality (with the wheat being more in percentage than the cassava flour).
The same thing too has been happening in the bread industry right from the 1980s when a Federal policy to start mixing wheat and cassava flour to make bread kicked in. The percentage of wheat is usually higher than the cassava flour component though, and the bread and other confectionary still came out tasty. Back in the 1980s when I first tasty wheat-cassava bread made by FIIRO, it tasted really good and if you are not told the bread was made of wheat-cassava combo, you would have thought it was a 100 percent bread made from wheat flour.
Second... Now to the 3 types of AMALA.
You're correct... The brown ELUBO ISU (is got from yams). When the yams are peeled, dried, milled, and sieved, you get a fine light brown yam flour (ELUBO ISU in Yoruba language).
Just as I stated in my first post, it's the brown yam flour that is used to prepare BROWN AMALA ISU (which is a popular swallow and eaten with any kind of tasty soup). This Amala ISU is the most popular of the 3 kinds of Amalas, followed by Amala LAFUN, and Amala OGEDE based on there production outputs of the different milled and seived flours got from yams, cassava, and unripe plantains.
Third, the white ELUBO LAFUN (cassava flour), is also used to prepare what Yorubas call AMALA LAFUN (it's also a swallow and white).
Fourth, ELUBO OGEDE (unripe plantain flour), is the third type of ELUBO that Yorubas use to make AMALA OGEDE (this is also the third type of Amala swallow and it's also kinda light brownish).
"Recap of the 3 Types of ELUBO & the 3 Types of AMALA": 1. ELUBO ISU (used to make brown Amala swallow from yam flour).
2. ELUBO LAFUN (used to make white Amala swallow from cassava flour).
3. ELUBO OGEDE (used to make light brown Amala swallow from unripe plantain flour).
You can do some more reading online or watch YouTube just to get a hang of some of these food origins and etymologies.
chieveboy: Dr Abalaka had been treating this since. Nigerians and Big Pharma won't let him.
There's NO concrete proof of the man eliminating the HIV. There was so much media hype around Dr. Abalaka yet everything just disappeared. I don't think Nigerians and Big Pharma won't let him because it's an opportunity for all to benefit from whatever successes he or any other scientists make in the field of curative medicine.
UDOKABESTLUV: Scientists say they have successfully eliminated HIV from infected cells, using Nobel Prize-winning Crispr gene-editing technology, the BBC reports.
The technology works like scissors, but at the molecular level, to cut DNA so that “bad” bits can be removed or inactivated.
The hope is to ultimately be able to rid the body entirely of the virus, although much more work is needed to check it would be safe and effective.
Existing HIV medicines can stop the virus but not eliminate it.
The University of Amsterdam team, presenting a synopsis of their early findings at a medical conference this week, stressed that their work remains merely “proof of concept” and will not become a cure for HIV any time soon.
And Dr James Dixon, stem-cell and gene-therapy technologies associate professor at the University of Nottingham, agrees, saying the full findings still require scrutiny.
“Much more work will be needed to demonstrate results in these cell assays can happen in an entire body for a future therapy,” he said.
The same Crispr Gene-Editing technology would probably work on other deadly viruses [depending on the virus genetic coding] that infect humans and other animals as well. Time will tell.
nlfpmod: When FIJ checked xpressverify.com, the website only asked the new user to register and sign in with a new profile.
The new user then had to buy units. A unit costs N200, and each unit can be used to make one verification at a time.
The user can use either a phone number, a NIN or a few demographic details to retrieve more data from any individual’s registration slip on the National Identity Database.
This reporter found his personal information and those of a colleague on xpressverify. For N200 each, our respective states of origin, phone numbers, cities of residence, home addresses, heights, central ID and tracking identifications were public information.
A random phone number search also brought up the full details of a random Nigerian whose data was registered by NIMC.
Xpressverify has no social media presence. NIMC never mentioned a partnership with Xpressverify or any other private website to manage the national database.
There's a lot of mediocrity at play in the management of VERY confidential personal data here. This could lead to lethargic responses from folks who wouldn't be motivated to get registered next time.
Just to correct you here... ELUBO is NOT maize flour.
ELUBO (NOT alibo) is a Yoruba word which means YAM flour or in FULL, ELUBO ISU which is got from slightly boiled yam slices which are then fermented and dried before grinding to YAM flour.
Second, the elubo that is made from dried cassava is called ELUBO LAFUN, and the elubo that is made from dried plantains is called ELUBO OGEDE.
ISU is the Yoruba name for YAM. Hence the name ELUBO ISU (yam flour)
The etymology of the word ELUBO refers to the "fine particles" of yam flour that DROP when the milled dry yam flour is beaten with the hand or some other device while using a seiver to seive the yam flour into finer yam particles.
"Lu" means to BEAT in Yoruba. "Bo" means to DROP in Yoruba.
Last but not least, AMALA is the Yoruba name for the swallow that is prepared by pouring ELUBO ISU (yam flour) into hot water and stired until it sets. Then it's served with any kind of soup such the different varieties of efo riro, ewedu and gbegiri, egusi soup with goat meat pepper soup, apon soup, afang soup, etc.
monex: she isnt a graduate of those ivy league. She only attended some courses.
I agree her resume is kinda strong but think her professional qualifications and experience (rather than academic) are the strongest part of her resume. most top management executives have done the Harvard AMP. She isn't a graduate of Harvard. her doctorate from Apollos University is a mushroom doctorate. I have assisted someone with a doctorate from this university and what the person did was equivalent to the rigor of running an online survey. Her LLM from Salford was the one via Robert Kennedy college (1 year online) which has very little admission entry barrier or rigor. Her first degree from Jos and MBA from Unical are the main academic part of her resume.
Yes, I'm aware she isn't a graduate of those institutions and ONLY attended the short management programs in those institutions because it was CLEARLY stated in the article.
I referenced the ivy league qualification issue in my post because of the past failures of some American corporate executives that had MBAs back in the late 2000s.
Indeed, just like you've said, professional qualications are the cream of the crop. Industry-specific professional certifications have far more value that just the academic qualifications, and savvy recruiters are constantly on the lookout for folks who have gained such professional certification abilities in addition to soft skills.
Icceyfrosh12: Architect Onyelowe Dandison has cried out for the world to put on record how a wife she married with his own money poured him boiling hot tomato paste just for punishing his daughter.
"If I d!e this morning, let the world know that a woman I married and cared for poured me hot tomato because I bea++t my daughter. I'm losing everything."
The young Lagos-based progressive is currently receiving intensive care where he is battling for survival.
HOT tomato paste?... That's sickening. The law enforcement folks must ensure she gets charged to court. NEVER cover up bad behavior.
I wish the gentleman speedy recovery and there are remedies that can be used on him to speed up the healing process from the burns in addition to whatever treatment he's getting at the hospital where he's on admission.
Ilekokonit: Serves the UK right. When the former Home Secretary Suella Braverman was villifying immigrants and even moved some asylum seekers onto a floating boat prison even when the fire brigade said it was a fire hazard and she did not even wait for the result of the tests on the water supply on the boat to come back before rushing to move the immigrants onto the boat. The water supply later turned out to be dangerous to humans before she now moved them off the boat.
Suella Braverman (and Rishi Sunak who looked the other way for selfish political reasons) for the past 2 years has been CONSTANTLY castigating and vilifying UK immigrants in the hope that the conservative party will win the next election if they apply to the inherently racist tendencies of EVERY white UK citizen and then Suella can after the elections topple Rishi as PM since she is now loved by the majority of the electorate who are white and want to blame all their woes on immigrants.
The main thing in the UK right now is a desperate Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his increasingly right wing (racist) conservative party trying to blame every problem in the UK on refugees and migrants just so they can tap into the inherently racist Oyinbo majority's sentiment and win this years election in which they are forecast to be wiped out.
The oyinbo politicians who will be called out as racist if they said the same thing Suella Braverman has said about foreigners and immigrants in the past 2 years are playing a dangerous game of outsourcing their racist ideas into the mouth of Suella Braverman a former Home Secretary and Attorney General of the UK in the hope that no one can call her out as racist because she is of indian heritage herself and Suella is basking in that opportunity and I can bet that she will win her seat in the elections and if Rishi loses the election for the conservatives, Suella will be made the Tory party leader because most white people like her racist rhetoric because she can say what they have always wanted to say about immigrants without her being called racist since she is brown skinned.
Until the UK realises that immigrants are not the cause of all their problems, I have no mercy for them. Joe I have no pity if the UK economy tanks as it currently doing and i was not really shocked when the London metropolitan Police announced a few days ago that 60 Murder Detectives were going to lose their jobs as a cost cutting measure to plug holes in their finances as they have spent all their reserves propping up their expenses and now their annual funding from the Govt is not enough to pay wages for all their police staff. This is serious if UK police is sacking experienced Murder detectives to save money.
A few hours ago, I saw 2 Oyinbo middle aged men approach our bulding and knowing it is election time soon, I thought they were Conservative Party vote canvassers and I went out to meet them but the one who stopped at our building and dropped Labour Party campaign leaflets through the letter box of every flat including mine turned out to be Labour party officials and I told him that I thought they were from the Conservative party and if so I had meant to tell them that I would NOT be voting for the Conservative party because of the divisive politics of Suella Braverman.
He agreed that Suella was a divisive figure before he left but from the tone of his voice, his body language and his wanting to leave in a hurry, I could sense that he is one of these stiff upper lipped white aristocrats who a) is wary around black people and b) thought they were better than anyone else talk less of black people and although he is from the Labour party, I made up my mind NOT to vote Labour as I originally intended but to vote for the Workers party founded by George Galloway since those ones SEEM more tolerant of the grass roots and George Galloway himself is closer to ethnic minorities than the Conservative and Labour parties.
In the UK and America there is a phenomenon called "White flight or white exodus" whereby white people start moving away en-masse from any areas where ethnic minorities have started moving into. Its very common in London and I first noticed it in the SW16 area of London many years ago when the Somalians first started moving into that area of London after the UK granted a lot of them Asylum during the Somalian civil war.
A former white colleague in the NHS tried to justify "white flight" and he was quite condescending towards black people by saying he has daily arguments online with black people where he tries to tell them that white people are better than black people. I just simply told the then 25 year old "boy" to mind his utterances and not carry the same mindset to America where he was due to relocate to 'cos the African Americans will not tolerate such statements from him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_flight
Police layoffs?... Now this is getting serious. As the population increases in the UK with a gradual spike in crimes, more of such crack teams of specialist Police officers would be needed... And Police stations are also planned to be sold off to save money.
Ilekokonit: All Nigerian Women especially those living in the UK, Europe and America need to learn LOYALTY from Sowore's Wife.
Sowore last week finally joined his wife and 2 children in America after 5 years of enforced captivity by the Nigerian government.
Throughout Sowore's travails, his wife stood by him and below are some of the steps she took to ensure that her husband rejoined her in the US -
1. She complained bitterly to Senator Bob Menendez who used his office to pressure the Nigerian Government as shown in the first video below. 2. She also complained to a member of the US House of Reps Congressman Josh Gottheimer who also took up Sowore's case and was even part of Sowore's Homecoming celebration party in the US last week. Congressman Gottheimer even brought a gift for Sowore last week. 3. She complained to the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Centre that advocates for human rights issues and pursues strategic litigation to hold governments accountable at home and around the world. 4. She went on live TV programs on CNN and CBS News to talk about her fight to get her husband released from confinement to Abuja. 5. She led protesters to the United Nations Plaza in New York on September 24, 2019 to demand her husbands release. 6. Even when Sowore lost his American Green Card after 1 year of not visiting America, the wife did not give up on him or see it as a reason to declare herself as a single parent in the hope of collecting welfare support for her children and neither did she turn her childrens mind against their father in those 5 long years. 7. Instead she kept Sowore's case on the front burner by constantly reminding Senator Bob Menendez and Congressman Josh Gottheimer of Sowore's inability to leave Abuja talk less of coming back to America since his green card had expired after 1 year. 8. Because she was born in the US, she used that fact plus her UNRELENTING complaints to the 2 US lawmakers mentioned above to impress on the authorities and convince them to allow Sowore come back to re-unite with her and her 2 kids since they all were born in America. 9. Senator Bob Menendez pressured the Nigerian Government on Sowore's case as shown in the first video below and this is all thanks to Sowore's wife not giving up on her husband who was away for 5 years. 10. Sowore's wife ensured her husbands plight was ALWAYS kept on the front burner and this LOYALTY ensured that Sowore was able to reunite with her and their 2 kids last week in America. 11. Also important is that she did NOT turn Sowore's children into his enemies by lying to them, confusing them and brain washing them against THEIR FATHER in those 5 years of Sowore's absence like a LOT of Nigerian women in the UK, Europe and America are fond of doing (for single parent financial support from these foreign Governments) when the husband goes to Nigeria to try his hands at business for just a few months and these women lie to the children that THEIR FATHER has abandoned them. 12. His wife Opeyemi Sowore is the Vice President, Head of Consumer Engagement at Teladoc Health having previously led as executive at American Express, Citigroup and Delta Air Lines. She holds a BA from State University of New York at Binghamton in 1995 and an MBA from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester in 1997. 13. She has a good job, her own money, was born in America and yet she did not abandon Sowore who was away for 5 years !!!!!!! 14. What a woman. And how lucky Sowore is to have accidentally found such a LOYAL and DUTIFUL wife who loved him genuinely and did NOT give up on him or abandon him when he was stuck in Nigeria for 5 years. 15. Sowore and his wife are now embarking on a second honeymoon with their 2 kids in tow.
candelahria: It's slightly acidic, rest. Don't you know orange juice also contains acid? Yet you lick orange like no man's business. If it was the stomach acid, ehen... that's like pH of 0, 1 which is very strong, that's why it can breakdown and even damage the walls of the stomach if not careful. The pH of vagina discharge is 4-5.
Some of the thread responses here cracked me up... But it also shows that a lot of males are clueless about the biological makeup of women and they have to step up and learn about even themselves. Fortunately, my mother was in the medical profession and I read all her medical books and encyclopedias in the family home library, so, I have a knowledge of these medical facts and more from decades back when I was younger.
I must commend you for your educative and insightful responses here.
candelahria: You could contract certain viral infections, many of which can only be managed but can't completely be cured and also oral Yeast infection if she's infected. HPV ( One of them) has been linked to oral cancer and warts and many people do not get vaccinated.. So, it's not safe.
id4sho: Vagina bleach . I mean pussy chemistry, chlorine, (NaClO), (Ca(ClO)2),( Ca(OH)2), (CaCl2), (Cl2), (ClO2). A lady told me she felt like throwing up when washing her pussy during periods . That's some kind of putrid stench odour oozing out. WTF man. some can't smell their panties
Reason why dick head is fair
Lol... It's slightly acidic in the VJ area (which itself is self-cleaning). Quite normal unless there are other congenital issues.
candelahria: The normal pH of the vagina is acidic. Vaginal discharge causes the bleaching of the underwear. It's normal. To prevent this, use panty liners always and wash your panties immediately after use.

But then again, attending several ivy league educational institutions does NOT mean that some CEOs have the capacity to lead financial and non-financial corporate organizations.
We saw this in the lead up to the massive collapse of top U.S. banks such as Lehman Brothers and even the energy company Enron whose CEOs and other executives had MBAs from Harvard University and more.
The ability to manage men and resources is key in any organization while generating value for clients and a good ROI for the organization. Period.
The Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Yemi Cardoso said that over $26bn in illicit funds had transited through the platform in the previous year.
In response to concerns, Binance disclosed that it had restricted 281 accounts belonging to Nigerians due to money laundering suspicions in 2022.
The platform highlighted its collaboration with the federal government to combat illicit activities and protect users.
However, tensions persist as Nigerian authorities sought detailed information from Binance, including data on its top 100 users and transaction histories for the past six months.
Despite the request, Binance had not yet responded.
Subsequently, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order for Binance to furnish the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with comprehensive information regarding all Nigerian traders on its platform, following an ex-parte motion filed by the EFCC.
The Director-General, WTO, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, disclosed this in Abuja at the launch of seven trade support programmes initiated by the WTO-ITC to boost the development of Nigeria’s trade and industry standards.
The initiatives namely the Standards Trade Development Facility, Digital Trade Initiative support, Women Exporters Entrepreneurship support, National Trade Portal and cotton development initiative aim to provide technical support to strengthen food safety, animal and plant health capacity in developing countries, address challenges of e-commerce digital trade divide and establish a world-class technology centre for all trade-related data and information in Nigeria.
She said, “We are launching today with STDF, ITC, and the NEPC, a project to help with international safety and quality certification for sesame and cowpeas or black-eyed peas. The agriculture sector in Nigeria has the potential to be a major driver of export diversification and job creation – but too much of this potential remains unrealized, due to a variety of barriers. In fact, Nigeria has not only lost out in agricultural export markets, it is a net food importer spending about billions a year on goods, many of which we can also produce here. Some of Nigeria’s unrealised potential has to do with trade-related problems on the supply side – and that is what this project is seeking to rectify.”
AmazingGenius: Niger's junta has ended a military agreement that allowed US personnel to be deployed in the country.
Saturday's announcement came in the week that a delegation from Washington had been in Niamey for talks with the country's military leadership.
The US used its base in Niger to monitor regional jihadist activity.
This latest announcement by the junta, in power since last July, comes as it moves closer to Russia and after French troops were kicked out in December.
"The US presence on the territory of the Republic of Niger is illegal and violates all the constitutional and democratic rules which would require the sovereign people... to be consulted on the installation of a foreign army on its territory," Niger's military spokesperson Col Amadou Abdramane said in a damning statement on national television.
He also alleged that the US delegation had accused Niger of making a secret deal to supply uranium to Iran. Col Abdramane described the accusation as "cynical" and "reminiscent of the second Iraq war".
And finally, he suggested that the US had raised objections about the allies that Niger had chosen. "The government of Niger therefore strongly denounces the condescending attitude combined with the threat of reprisals by the head of the American delegation against the government and the people of Niger," Col Abdramane said.
Referring to Niger's governing military council by the initials CNSP, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on X that it was "aware of the statement... which follows frank discussions at senior levels in Niamey this week about our concerns with the CNSP's trajectory. We are in touch with the CNSP and will provide further updates as warranted."
There are thought to be at least 650 US personnel in Niger.
In 2016, the US began investing around $100m (£79m) in a drone base in the central city of Agadez, 750km (460 miles) north-east of Niamey. It was used for surveillance and targeting of Islamic State and al-Qaeda-linked militants operating in the wider Sahel region.
Jihadist activity in the Sahel has created instability in a number of countries, which, as well as Niger, has also led to coups in two of its neighbouring states - Mali and Burkina Faso. The three countries have now formed a military alliance.
The army in Niger overthrew the elected President, Mohamed Bazoum, last July citing the worsening security situation.
Following mounting resentment against former colonial power France, French troops, who had been helping to fight the jihadists, left the country in December.
The junta had appeared to take a softer line towards the US, but that has now changed.
Niger appears to be moving closer to Russia. Last December, junta-appointed Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine was in Moscow to discuss military and economic ties.
Referring to relations with Russia, military spokesperson Col Abdramane said Niger is dealing with the country to "acquire military equipment necessary to its fight against the terrorists who have claimed thousands of innocent Nigerien victims under the indifferent eye of much of the international community".

Godszilla: Former President Donald J. Trump, at an event on Saturday ostensibly meant to boost his preferred candidate in Ohio’s Republican Senate primary race, gave a freewheeling speech in which he used dehumanizing language to describe immigrants, maintained a steady stream of insults and vulgarities and predicted that the United States would never have another election if he did not win in November.
With his general-election matchup against President Biden in clear view, Mr. Trump once more doubled down on the doomsday vision of the country that has animated his third presidential campaign and energized his base during the Republican primary.
The dark view resurfaced throughout his speech. While discussing the U.S. economy and its auto industry, Mr. Trump promised to place tariffs on cars manufactured abroad if he won in November. He added: “Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a blood bath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a blood bath for the country.”
For nearly 90 minutes outside the Dayton International Airport in Vandalia, Ohio, Mr. Trump delivered a discursive speech, replete with attacks and caustic rhetoric. He noted several times that he was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.
The former president opened his speech by praising the people serving sentences in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Mr. Trump, who faces criminal charges tied to his efforts to overturn his election loss, called them “hostages” and “unbelievable patriots,” commended their spirit and vowed to help them if elected in November. He also repeated his false claims that the 2020 election was stolen, which have been discredited by a mountain of evidence.
If he did not win this year’s presidential election, Mr. Trump said, “I don’t think you’re going to have another election, or certainly not an election that’s meaningful.”
Mr. Trump also stoked fears about the influx of migrants coming into the United States at the southern border. As he did during his successful campaign in 2016, Mr. Trump used incendiary and dehumanizing language to cast many migrants as threats to American citizens.
He asserted, without evidence, that other countries were emptying their prisons of “young people” and sending them across the border. “I don’t know if you call them ‘people,’ in some cases,” he said. “They’re not people, in my opinion.” He later referred to them as “animals.”

Other universities are going into merger to pass through the storm.
Nigeria and Indians plays a critical role in the funding of UK universities. It was when I arrived that I started seeing sizeable number of Nigerians studying BSc program.
This universities are crafty as they open irrelevant department.. Project management this, project executive this that, project sustainability this that and that etc Even if u graduate they won't even give u job unless the menial jobs around.
Our leaders has to sit up, create hope for Nigerians by providing security, transparency in elections etc , so that people don't exit this country.
In the bid to discontinue some courses, humanities subjects and languages are bearing the weight of the losses.
The University of Kent has just disclosed plans to discontinue nine courses, including philosophy, contemporary languages, and comparative literature, while Aberdeen is scrapping single honors language degrees, and Winchester is discontinuing numerous humanities courses.
Oxford Brookes is dropping music and reducing its history department, while several other universities are planning unspecified cost cuts.
Impact of foreign students from Nigeria Northumbria University, Newcastle is among those to have cited economic turmoil in Nigeria, whose currency has collapsed against the pound, for the need to make cuts in the face of a “very sudden reduction of the number of students” coming from the country.
A spokesman for Northumbria University said, “The university’s financial position was very strong but the current financial outlook is weaker than anticipated.”
“This is a consequence of a combination of fixed home undergraduate fees, difficulties around recruitment of international students, and the ongoing impact of inflation.”
Corroborating the submission, Rachel Hewitt, chief executive of MillionPlus, the group for newer universities, said, “The economic crisis in Nigeria presents difficulties for any university seeking to recruit from that country.
"The existing tuition fee model coupled with high inflation has seen their income fall year on year, meaning institutions have to make difficult choices and do more with less.”
According to the report from The Times, she also blamed ministers, saying, “It is impossible to imagine the government going out of its way to make Britain less inviting to investment in almost any other sector and yet every negative headline and policy reform that makes Britain less attractive to international students damages both the higher education sector and UK plc.”

Meanwhile Ghana yam boku for Deptford Market at 2 for £5.
The stats here on this thread clearly show that Nigeria is indeed a real underachiever when it comes to expanding the commodities value chains for localized consumption and export to the huge Nigerian Diaspora population.
The Ghanaians have mastered the art of TQM and this is why Ghana yams are widely exported in raw form to the UK and the U.S.
AmazingGenius: Nigerians may soon be importing yam for local consumption from China, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Ernest Umakihe, has said.
Umakihe stated this while speaking at a stakeholders workshop on repositioning yam as an export crop.
He lamented that despite accounting for 67% of global yam output, it was unfortunate that Nigeria is nowhere on the map of yam exporting countries.
He expressed concerns that with China delving into yam exportation, and considering Nigerians taste for imported goods, Chinese yam may soon be found in Nigerian kitchen if care is not taken, thereby pushing more Nigerians into the unemployment market and and reducing income of yam farmers.
Umakihe said Nigerian’s first attempt at exporting yam was by Nasarawa State Government in 2009 with 8.5 metric tonnes and within the same month another 66 metric tonnes were exported in two shipments, followed by Oyo State, but without success. He also said that the Ministry’s attempt to revive yam export in 2017 was poorly handled.
“It was only in 2017 that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture under the leadership of Chief Audu Ogbeh, then Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organised the first flag-off ceremony (of yam) with a batch of 72 tons to UK and USA. I believe these were done without proper planning before the execution. Aside the mentioned attempts, nothing much has been heard of the yam export from Nigeria,” he said.
Speaking on the theme of the workshop, ‘Prospects and Challenges of yam export in Nigeria’, he said it is the duty of Nigerians to find out what went wrong and how to address.
AmazingGenius: The FSS 2020 is often seen as a less prestigious posting within the CBN, and the redeployment of the eight directors has been likened to being sent to “Siberia.”
Among the directors transferred to the FSS 2020 on the 24th of November last year were Samuel Chukwuyem Okojere; Abdulmumin Abdulsalam Isa, PhD; Dr. Elizabeth AMos Kwaghe; Dr. Maureen Omolola Chukwurah; Mr. Arinze Stanley; while Mr. Philip Yila Yusuf was moved to that office since 26th October, 2023.
Daily Trust investigation revealed that in the latest transfers done by Cardoso, Dr. Mahmoud Hassan, formerly of the Monetary Policy Department, now heads the Trade and Exchange Department, and the former Director of Human Resources, who has been moved to Capacity Development.
Under Yila’s leadership, according to our sources, the Development Finance Department (DFD), which he held before his redeployment, played a crucial role in supporting businesses through increased access to finance for priority sectors under a variety of programmes such as the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP), the Agri-Business/Small and Medium Enterprises Investment Scheme (AGSMEIS), and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMEDF) and disbursement to households and small businesses during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, to cushion the impact of the consequent lockdown.
The current CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, has criticised these quasi-fiscal policies of his predecessor, Mr. Emefiele, saying that they resulted in N10 trillion being pumped into the economy through intervention programmes, an action he said was responsible for large money supply in the economy.
Mynd44: Nigeria asked Binance to give it the top 100 users, Binace decided to hide behind personal security which they are right now. Now the court has ordered them to release a comprehensive list of every Nigerian there.
Everyone who has used Binace will now have their details and transaction history sent to the FG.
Under the KYC rules, Binance OR other exchanges are under the obligation to supply the details of their users if investigations are going on.
In the United States, U.S. Federal Agents specializing in Bitcoin and other cryptos, have on multiple occasions requested for the KYCs of those under suspicion or investigations, and the crypto exchanges granted their requests and that is how Bitcoins that were stolen years ago were tracked to specific hackers and thieves.
All Bitcoin transactions are therefore NOT hidden like a LOT of ignorant posters on and off NL like to claim with BOGUS confidence.
If you have clean transactions on those crypto exchanges, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
FreeStuffsNG: High Court Orders Binance To Release Names, Information Of Nigerians Trading On Cryptocurrency Platform
Mr Bello noted that following the inauguration of the Technical Committee on Currency Stability and Forex Manipulation by the ONSA, the SIT “received an intelligence stating the nefarious activities (money laundering and terrorism financing) on Binance,” a cryptocurrency exchange platform.
Mr Bello added that upon receipt of the intelligence, the team began investigating by carrying out surveillance of the activities of the platform.
He stated, “The team uncovered users who have been using the platform for price discovery, confirmation, and market manipulation, which has caused tremendous distortions in the market, resulting in the Naira losing its values against other currencies.
“That the damage the platform has caused was clearly explained to the operators of the platform and they were requested to delist the Naira and avail the ONSA on the activities of the Nigerians on their platform.
“That from the information afforded to the team by Binance shows that the total trading volume from Nigeria in 2023 alone stood at $21.6 million.
“Attached and marked as Exhibit EFCC 1 is a copy of the document from Binance to the ONSA stating this fact amongst others. That the commission will ensure that investigation is conducted within such reasonable time.”
Mr Bello, who said the matter was of utmost urgent public interest, said the data provided would enable the commission to accomplish its investigation activities.
He said it was in the interest of justice to grant the application, as refusing the request would largely hamper the commission’s investigation.
It was reported last week that the Nigerian Government had pleaded before a chief magistrate's court in Abuja to extend the detention of two Binance executives arrested by the country’s National Security Adviser.
The Binance executives identified as Tigran Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen and Binance's head of financial crime compliance, and Nadeem Anjarwalla, a British-Kenyan who is African regional manager for the cryptocurrency trading firm, flew to Nigeria following the country's decision to ban several cryptocurrency trading websites, but they were detained on arrival on February 26.
Reuters reported that the court order granting the EFCC permission to detain the Binance executives for two weeks to facilitate investigations expired last Tuesday and the duo had not been released.
They had also not been charged with any crime.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the EFCC had asked the chief magistrate's court to extend their detention while investigations continue, said a person involved in the case but not authorised to speak to the press.
The two executives' lawyers maintained that there were no grounds for keeping them in detention, the person added.
Another source privy to the incident said a hearing was set for March 20 when the court can either dismiss or grant the extension request on the same day or later.
The spokespersons for the EFCC and the Office of the National Security Adviser, which is also involved in the probe, did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.
The crackdown on cryptocurrency trading in Nigeria had been linked to the devaluation of the country’s currency, Naira.
The Nigerian authorities last Tuesday asked Binance to share data on its 100 top users in Nigeria for possible probe and charge. But the company kept mum on this request.
Anjarwalla's wife, Elahe, told Reuters that the two men were being kept in a guarded house in the capital Abuja and she had been able to speak to her husband on the phone at least once a day, although he can only speak in the presence of a guard.
Rebuker: Residents of Ibadan, particularly in the Apata area, were left in disbelief as they witnessed a remarkable event: a car soaring over a fence after veering off the main road and crashing into a building's perimeter. The car departed from the main road, colliding with the building's fence some distance away.
The sight left many expressing astonishment at how a car could travel such a distance from the main road and end up lodged on a building's fence in such a manner.
The car's windshield was completely shattered, with other parts of the vehicle severely damaged, yet it remained suspended on the fence.
Numerous speculations arose, with some attributing the incident to overspeeding, while others suggested the driver may have been intoxicated. A bottle of a popular alcoholic beverage found at the crash site led many to believe the driver was indeed intoxicated. However, it remains unclear if the bottle originated from the car or if its presence was coincidental.
Little is known about the driver at the time of this report. Given the severity of the crash, many speculate it would be miraculous if the driver survived.

Must have been on a really high speed to have flown over the wide, open road drainage system before resting partly on the low fence after initially leaping over the low fence.
