BALKAN Airlines, the Bulgarian Airlines. The one our badmouth people nicknamed PANGOLO was about the cheapest airline flying from Lagos to Europe in those days.

AEROFLOT, the russian Airlines was another cheap communist airline that flew the Lagos - Europe route in those days.

Both Airlines had their Salesoffices/Outlets at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

You must have been a regular visitor to those communist countries back in the day.

You missed out on PanAm and British Caledonian. They were truly iconic airlines for us back in the day (1970s and 1980s).

I flew onboard the defunct Nigeria Airways, Kabo Airlines, Okada Air, ADC, First Nation, etc

British Caledonian and PanAm used to make regular flights to Nigeria back in the 1970s and 1980s. I still feel the nostalgia of the iconic British Caledonian. The elite and middle class Nigerians flew regularly on the Lagos-Gatwick, Kano-Gatwick and Lagos-NY routes.

Hundreds of inmates have broken out of a prison in Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince, as armed gangs stormed the city.

An outbreak of violence since Thursday has targeted the city's international airport, police stations and the National Penitentiary prison.

It comes as gang leader Jimmy Cherizier pledged to oust the country's acting prime minister Ariel Henry.

On Friday he called on the Haitian military and national police to 'take responsibility' and arrest Mr Henry, who has served as prime minister since the assassination of Haiti's last president Jovenel Moise in 2021.

Cherizier, known as Barbecue, is a former police officer who now leads a gang alliance and has faced sanctions from the United Nations and US Department of Treasury.

A West African country such as Cote d'Ivoire is doing absolutely well. I first visited Cote d'Ivoire by air in 1988 and Abidjan was, and still is a very well planned city with wide boulevards leading right to the commercial and residential districts from the Felix Houphoet-Boigny International Airport. It's NOT an accident that Abidjan is called the "Paris of Africa." There are other examples of countries on the African Continent and Latin America that are doing fine though.

So, that garrulous dude called Erik whatever (who is an American mercenary of Dutch ancestry) has NO right to call for a re-colonisation of Africa and Latin America in his crappy video. Even responsible White folks in America condemned his comments.

Erik and his private mercenary company called Blackwater has been involved in wars and destabilization of countries such as in Iraq where some innocent folks were killed by his men and this dude has the chutzpah to say that America should invade Africa and Latin American countries and have them colonized again. Dangote Refinery has ramped up its stock of imported crude oil from the United States as a second cargo as a second shipment of US light sweet crude oil was headed to Nigeria on Friday for delivery to the refinery, according to a trader and ship tracking data.

This is coming as indications emerged at the weekend that Nigeria’s efforts to raise crude oil production continued to yield results during the February circle, with output for the month rising by approximately 60,000bpd during the month.

Reuters reported that the vessel, Otis, which loaded about 850,000 barrels of WTI Midland in Houston last week, was signaling Lekki in Nigeria as its destination, according to Kpler and LSEG ship tracking.

It was estimated to reach the country around mid-March.

The vessel was chartered by Vitol, according to data sources and a trader.

The first shipment of two million barrels of US crude on the very large crude carrier, Gem No. 1, also chartered by Vitol, was nearing Nigeria and is expected to discharge next week.

The refinery, Africa’s largest with a nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, was built on a peninsula on the outskirts of the commercial capital, Lagos, by the continent’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

The refinery began buying crude in December last year and The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NNPCL) has been the main supplier.

The refinery had issued tenders to sell two fuel cargoes for export, a tender document showed and trading sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters earlier this month.

Bloomberg had in January this year reported that Trafigura Group sold two million barrels of WTI Midland to Dangote Refinery for end-February delivery.

This is the first time that the giant refinery has purchased non-Nigerian crude, traders said.

Trafigura is a multinational commodity trading company headquartered in Singapore, with major hubs in various locations, including Geneva, Houston, Montevideo and Mumbai.

Offering his support, the computer guru from Gombe State who led a team of researchers from Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum, emphasized the need for a technology-backed warfare against terrorist element in Nigeria.

He further stated that he would partner with the federal government in the fight insecurity which is causing setback to the development of the country.

“Moving forward, efforts are underway to formalize these findings, with plans to publish and integrate the developed algorithms into the operational frameworks of the Nigerian government,” he added.
