Comparing the value of money today with over 10 years is a failure on your side. Definitely you are not a student economics or financial management. Still talking about inflation do you know how to measure in term of comparism? There are so many factors and calculations which time and space will not allow me to mention here because you can't even understand it. But the little one you can understand is that, exchange rate(official) is still maintain at 198-199 which is the rate at which jonathan government sold crude oil at international market and the price of crude oil have dropped drastically in international mkt so the income to be generated between the two can never be the same and the cost of spending due to the time value of money,inflation rate, cost of maintainance, cost of purchase some items especially the one from abroad, management cost, cost of bringing goods from abroad and cost of transportation etc. What the govt need to do is to look inwards the program that will favour the economy by using its fiscal and monetary policy that will bring back the economy. An economy that will not favour micro,small and medium term enterprises together with encouraging private investor will never grow. Pls don't compare baba regime with this government because is yaradua and jonathan regime that suppose to continue where obasanjo stopped but finished our treasury by encouraging corruption all over the country. We are reaping from their bad economy policy that favour only the rich while poor continue poorer.

You are right but then you must understand that the rend is same in other countries who have increased the pump price..even venezuella increased by over 1000% in 20 years.

With a decline in the crude oil cost,it has become extremely difficult for the government to fund the imported product.

It might interest you to know that in Nigeria, also an oil producing nation, pump price has increased by over 24000% (not adjusting for inflation) within the last 25years.

Until the government become honest and stop hypocrisy and propaganda, the country is bound to remain stagnant in the next 30years.

Some people are always playing politics with Nigeria's economy...and zombies are dancing to the tune.


While I support the fuel subsidy removal, I also contend that it isn't the best option available to the government in the state of the economy.

How about devising means to curb or eliminate the corruption around the subsidy payments?
How about fixing existing refineries for production with proceeds of recovered loots et al?

Subsidy removal makes the poor suffer more, we both know the poverty and unemployment rate in the country.


You spoke of subsidy savings, it may interest you to know that subsidy removal savings is un-appropriated for in the just signed appropriation bill neither was it recognised as a source of income...it is not news that such monies end up in some people's pockets while the poor keep suffering.

You needn't disappointed for a stmnt of fact that university education is not for everyone. It has always been a fact and it will remain one till end of time.

Not getting university education doesn't mean one's life is incomplete or worthless. Many people attended technical colleges, many engaged in trading, others opted for special education just to fit into the society and many later turned out better than some that got university education.

Think through my posts before replying.

1. Your initial post was a response to someone that rightly pointed to the fact that the Govt has not increased the minimum wage, not necessarily insinuating that most parents earn 18K...of which I asked what happens to the ones that earn 18K...and you pointed it out that those who earn that sum are messengers, drivers, cleaners etc.

Do you mean those ones don't have kids?
Or are their kids undeserving of University education if they want it?


2. Everyone that wants university education deserves to get it. If my father works as a driver in a government establishment and earns 18K, how do you expect the family to cope?

Must the poor ditch formal education because it is expensive? Are they not Nigerians?


Look beyond your own condition and interest and see from others' perspective. Many Nigerians live in poverty, Unemployment rate is high! These are REAL issues.

In reality, no govt worker earns 18k per month. The minimum wage is the basic entry pay for cleaners, drivers, messengers, and likes. It doesn't include their other allowances.

And university education is not for everyone and definitely not free anywhere in the world. Acquiring it comes with toiling.

How many people have the government provided good jobs for? Do you know the unemployment rate in the country?

In reality, a very large percentage of Nigerians live in poverty.

The government won't be helping matters by increasing the cost of the most important development tool.

As much as I believe in and support this present administration, I believe it must stop hypocrisy and propaganda to make swift progress.

There are hundreds of positive things about the previous administration of which I have never (even for once) heard the present government commend or speak of.

The present administration seem to revel in blaming the past administration for its own woes.
When the past administration did somethings, it was evil then...now, when they do the same things, it becomes the best decision.
