CareerRe: The Challenges Of Being A Female Pilot In The Nigerian Aviation Industry by lafile(m): 9:12am On Dec 07, 2011
Was on a flight once from Lagos to Warri. The flight was Ok, nothing beyond the ordinary. Not the smoothest flight, but no real danger. Nobody complained about the flight. Nobody felt uneasy in any way. That is until the cockpit door opened and behold it was female pilot. The first comment i heard was " No wonder", like no wonder the flight was ,  blah, blah. The next person was like " I wanted to complain about the landing. The plane almost overshot the runway". This was not true though. The landing wasn't the smoothest, but I'd seen worse landings before. Nobody would have said anything about the flight if they hadn't seen the pilot. Its a shame really that in this day and age when women have excelled in every field of human endeavour, we still have such prejudices. Sadly though, its just the way it is.

@HISchild, a few questions.

Does the existence of a pre-adamic world negate Genesis 1:1?

What did God mean when He told Adam to REplenish the Earth (Note that Replenish means to make complete again, supply what is lacking or used up)?

When did God create water? Note that water already existed in Gen 1:2 and there is no record of water being created in Gen 1.

@ WerepeLeri

If you do not see the problem with a country like Nigeria being represented by a website as rubbish as this, then you are a symptom of what is wrong with this Nation. You see something that is below par and you see nothing wrong with it. Excellence has disappeared from the lexicon of this Nation. Somebody does something that will make the international community laugh at us and you say 'leave am alone, at least e try'. Rubbish. If you wanted to advertise your business would you use a website like that?

The question no one has been able to adequately answer: why is sanusi bent on selling or liquidating those banks? He has been trying to sell the banks since 2009, hawking them all over the world. He didn't even wait to see the effect of his intervention on the banks before deciding to sell them.

Why sack corrupt bank MD's and replace them with corrupt MD's?

My brother neither am I. I watched the governors debate yesterday in Lagos. Someone promised free education at all levels and didn't have the stats on how much it costs to run a school. Over 2 hours of the debate and the APGA and NCP candidates didnt make sense. No wonder Agbakoba was frustrated. And only to hear of a VP candidate that cant even speak English! What do they take us for?

I am not contradicting myself. I was just showing how shameful it is that people like the VP candidate in question and some of the governorship candidates at the debate are bold enough to contest. People that obviously have nothing to offer. It shows how low Nigeria has fallen. Maybe I didn't make myself clear, but I do not want every TOM, DICK and HARUNA to seek public office.
PoliticsRe: Vice Presidential Candidate Can't Speak In English by lafile(op): 1:00pm On Mar 29, 2011
Anybody can aspire to rule Nigeria. The only qualification needed is an astute thieving brain. You do not need education, finesse, intellect or eloquence. Its not necessary. How many past leaders boasted any of these qualities? Just have the courage to pilfer in billions. Just don't be scarred of 10 digit figures in dollars. Then you are ready to rule. Did you watch the Lagos State Governor's debate? Did you see the candidates? Lord have mercy.

And if you find it hard to believe,

Vice presidential candidate can’t speak English
By Olusola Fabiyi and Olamileka Lartey, Abuja
Tuesday, 29 Mar 2011

The vice-presidential candidate of the United National Party Development, Alhaji Galadima Samari, stunned those present at the debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group for vice presidential candidates of some political parties, in Abuja on Monday as he used an interpreter to convey his message.

Samari was among those slated to speak at the first batch of the debate organised for the vice presidential candidates of four political parties.

Others are the vice presidential candidate of the Mega Progressive Peoples Party, Alhaji Rasheed Shitta-Bey; Alhaji Lawal Kasimu Funtua(Social Democratic Mega Party) and Mr. Gabriel Ogbonna of the National Transformation Party.

When he arrived, Samari had told the organisers of the event that he would need an interpreter, which they (the organisers) had considered a joke.

But when it was time to go on stage, Samari, who spoke only in Hausa language, insisted that he would not go on the stage unless his request was granted.

It was at this stage that the organisers knew that the vice-presidential candidate meant business.

Before granting him his request, the organisers had to arrange for where the interpreter would sit so as not to affect the sitting arrangement already put in place.

Drama: VP candidate addresses presidential debates in Hausa
From Taiwo Amodu, Abuja
Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Nigerians, who thronged Transcorp Hilton Hotel, venue of presidential debate organised by Nigeria Election Debate Group, yesterday were stunned as one of the vice- presidential candidates did not express himself in English Language.
Moderator of the programme, Eugenia Abu, had disclosed that the vice presidential candidate of United National Party for Development (UNDP), Alhaji Galadima samari, would need the assistance of an intepreter to translate his message to English.

Zamari, who spoke inHausa disclosed that he started politics in 1967 as a member of the defunct Action Group but later moved to the Great Nigeria Peoples Party in the second Republic because a party rooted in the southern part of the country was not acceptable in the North. He assured Nigerians that under the UNDP-led Federal Government, wealth would be equitably distributed.

As a rule, there is NO unbiased news report or news station. Not CNN, not BBC, Sky, Euronews, AlJazeera or Fox. No one is unbiased. Everyone has a certain view of the world and that view taints their reporting. And yes, they all have an agenda. Compare the reporting of Obama's campaign by CNN with that of Fox. Compare Aljazeera's reporting of the Middle East crises with that of CNN. Read a report in the New York Times and compare with the wall Street Journal. Same story, different analysis. It might be subtle, it might be overt but its all ideological propaganda.

I'll like to react to some statements made by Toyin Subair at the news conference. The story can be found here http://www.hitv.com.ng/newsroom.php?ID=92.

“I want to correct the impression that HiTV is all about the English Premier League." - Is it a lie? I haven't renewed my subscription since the conclusion of the last EPL season. I can bet most people haven't.

"While we pride ourselves as number one in the area of sports content especially football, HiTV is purely an entertainment Pay TV company with lots of other entertainment content for the viewing delight of its numerous subscribers." - Really? Apart from Sky News and Al Jazeera, the only other channel i watch is Nickelodeon. My daughter loves Spongebob.

", for movies, we have Hi Movies, Hi Mix" - Is it the HiMix that shows cartoons until 9pm and ends the day with some stupid talk shows and dry series?

Can you imagine a downside to it? Oh yes! Career politicians will no longer have enough positions to fill, making the few available positions a 'do or die' affair. Hopw will they eat?

Are Nigerians genetically programmed to be dishonest?

Is there something in our make up that makes us commit crimes easily, or seek to get away with what is wrong?

A cursory appraisal would seem to confirm this: but if we look at the whole picture objectively, we would find that there are so many extenuating factors, that mitigate, and make a lie of this assertion.

Can you blame a five year old for not understanding quantum physics, or the complete works of William Shakespeare ?

You cannot because the child has not be schooled in that regard.

We were taught, in journalism school in those days ,that you must never write above the frame of reference of your audience, or beyond their field of experience.

The frame of reference simply refers to, what he knows, and can relate to, for example, all that the five year old could know are some nursery rhymes, and this even depends on the social stratum the child is in.

Field of experience on the other hand, is the aggregate ,or sum total, life experience of a person from which he/she can draw from, and make comparisons, with whatever he encounters now. It is like his log book of life.

What can we say have been our collective field of experience, and frame of reference as a nation?

Another way of asking the question is, what role models have we been given to follow, as Nigerians?

What acts of inspiration, and loftiness, have we been called to aspire to in our sixty years of nationhood?

None!

Think about it, is there anything in our past that, munificently, and glowingly, compels, and challenges us, not to fall below the "ancient moral benchmark" of integrity?

Sadly, None!

Take a deep breath, close your eyes, if you need to; there is nothing in our past as a nation that motivates in anyway to patriotism, honesty, egalitarianism, and selflessness.

We have been operating on a deficit of moral inspiration for fifty years.

Has a Nigerian public official ever resigned as result of being accused of wrongdoing? When they do, it is usually because they are forced out. They do not do it out of a conviction of duty the way we see it done in Japan.

Have you ever seen a leader give his all to serve this nation, at his own loss, and great pain to himself? Have you ever seen a leader who said he would not accept his salary, that the opportunity to be of service to Nigeria, was enough reward in itself?

Then, there is the small question of honesty. Every leader runs on the adrenalin of dishonesty, and greed!

We now expect every leader to exit from office a rich man. Not necessarily as a result of his remuneration, but because of what he/she can filch! That is the example we have been used to for fifty years.

The first crop of leaders were not dishonest, they just were not sincere in terms of the desire to build a strong nation.

They were not nationalists. Some people call them nationalists because they fought for independence.

But look at what they did after independence.

Each one of them pursued an ethnic agenda, and sought to be a national leader for his/her ethnic group. This was an anachronism. It just could not work. It is like trying to be in two places at once.

We are still "benefiting" from the ethnic seeds sown.

So, to ask the question again, "Are Nigerians genetically programmed to be dishonest? The answer is NO!

We are not.

We have been nationally brainwashed by our leaders to believe that if we do not watch out for ourselves, no one would.

That has turned us into the worst kind of criminal possible, a programmed one.

We steal, not because we are hungry, but because it is the only thing we have been taught to do.

We have not been shown what true honesty is.

And till now, we are still waiting to see it in leadership.

And until we do,

MAY GOD BLESS NIGERIA,MY NIGERIA,FOREVER!

PoliticsRe: Lagos State Is Sinking In A Sea Of Debt by lafile(m): 9:34am On Jun 14, 2010
It is discussions like this that keep me amazed about how Nigerians think. I am a supporter of Fashola but not blindly. I will not support somebody to an extent that i'll tell him 'carry go' if he makes a mistake. Most people have bluntly refused to read, digest and discuss the statements made by the poster. They just 'yab' him and he's family without bothering to find out if what he said makes sense. Only  few people have actually taken time to reply his ascertions. Some people (The Senate guy, for example) have blatantly refused to comment on the topic at hand. These blind supporters are the Enemies of Fashola.

That said, the only way progress can be made in Lagos is through infrastructural development. This costs money the LASG does not have. The only way is to borrow. The hope is that these infrastructural developments can drive sustainable economic development, which will in turn provide adequate financial strength to pay back these loans, with interest.

However, the problem of over invoicing still exists. I believe its the devil Fashola has to lie with for now, if he wants to stay in government long enough to oversee these developmental goals he has set. I know its not ideal, but considering where we are coming from its something we have to live with. Our politicians, almost all of them are greedy, self serving leeches. If they are not kept reasonably happy, i fear what they can do. remember nobody gets into government without the support of a party. And all the parties are 98% populated by these greedy people. So until such a time as when men of integrity can form a critical mass in these parties, every person in Government with an agenda to serve must find a way of sleeping with the enemy just to survive. I consider it a miracle that someone with a positive agenda is even in Government. Look around. He is about the only one we have.

You expect d'banj to act fela in britain, arguing with his father, in prison, fighting obj, giving an interview, crying over the death of his mother etc. Haba! Acting is make believe not fake belief.
