Christianity EtcRe: Omg! So There Is Really A God? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:58pm On Oct 31, 2012
grin grin grin some o' y'all have it all wrong and twisted.. There is no GOD period.point.blank. there is no perfect ethereal energy or some unified gunk in space and time continuum. It is the unique nature of this petri-dish called the milky way
You think we are an intelligent species and whatever created us is some intelligent sentient being.. wrong. Humanity is not even close to being a 0.00001% focus of this galaxy or billions of similar galaxies across universes and multi-verses. The so-called unifying source-code is nothing more than a gigantic petri-dish vegetating germs and life-forms. so other advanced germs (aliens, demons, angels, gods) from other advanced petri-dishes attempt to seek similar answers that we have been perambulating over for centuries. which is why it can never be proven or seen.. you are already soaking in it. grin grin grin someday biology class will be over and the janitor will wipe the lab table clean and junk our petri-dish into an incinerator.. sounds familiar! grin grin grin
Christianity EtcRe: God Will Prove Himself by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:27pm On Oct 31, 2012
frosbel: We agree on the former but not the later.

The Bible is a treasure of TRUTH. It is up to the individual to 'dig' for this TRUTH. When we shine the light of Jesus into this cavern of great riches , we will indeed be blessed with untold treasures and unspeakable wealth.

However , lazy people will never find this TRUTH because they make all sorts of excuses and give up too early in their search for the TRUTH. So they settle for myths, silly theories and wishy washy ideas , which are the dregs of a poverty stricken world.

Only the diligent , hard working and humble till find this truth. The arrogant and lazy will search for all eternity and never come to the knowledge of truth.

If the Catholic church or ISLAM decided to twist this truth to their own destruction, it does not in anyway change the truthfulness of the truth.

Indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones - Proverbs 2
What happens when you have found the "TRUTH" and it turns out to be either a LIE or a case of Mis-information (TRUTH deliberately obfuscated for whatever divine reasons). As in my case the Catholic Library Zaria was a treasure trove of TRUTH, especially about the Bible we read today. if you are non-catholic, you'd have to admit your source of knowledge has been (possibly) tainted as history will have it. like you said, it is a choice to rely on tainted-history or Faith. perhaps a discussion for another thread.. willing?
PoliticsRe: Cameroon Did No Wrong Flooding Nigeria – FG Official by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:05pm On Oct 31, 2012
gonon: Before you start criticizing the Cameroonians, please ask yourself one simple question. Why hasnt the Nigerian government built a buffer dam to absolve such scenarios? We have a government that doesnt plan simple. I am an Electrical Engineer, Power systems engineer to be precise, do you know how much it costs to build a dam, let alone the timeline to construct it? So dont blame anybody. We have released water from our Kainji Dam times without number. So channel your anger at the right people, YOUR GOVERNMENT.
We give too much importance to our leaders.. they seem larger than life but are really incompetent dullards who do not know what to do and when and even how.

PoliticsRe: Lagos To Get Bicycles Lanes by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:48pm On Oct 29, 2012
naptu2: History is a very important subject. It sometimes shows you what's possible. It seems that most of the people who say that Fashola is trying to copy practices in the West that are not practicable here do not know the history of Lagos.

Much of what Fashola is trying to do is not new. He is only trying to restore the order that existed in the 1950s and '60s.

1) Cycle lanes: In the past, there were many lanes that were exclusively for cyclists and pedestrians. In South-West Ikoyi there were the lane the connected CVU with Manuwa Street and the lane that connected Keffi Street with Norman Williams Street. Part of Cow Lane on Lagos Island was off limits to cars and only used by cyclists and pedestrians. There were many more, but unfortunately I can't remember their names.

LRT: In the past there was the Lagos Steam Tramway that ran from the Lagos Rail Terminus at Iddo to Lagos Island and even Victoria Island. Governor Jakande also tried to revive the metro system in Lagos.

Parks and gardens: Marina once had a beautiful garden where people could relax in the evenings. That was lost in the '70s, but Fashola has brought it back. Park View Estate in Ikoyi was once a large park.

Restriction on the movement of articulated trucks: Articulated trucks were banned from plying Lagos roads in the daytime during the colonial era.

In the past we had post boxes, fire hydrants, doorstep milk deliveries, etc in Lagos (I saw some of these things).

Bringing them back is not impossible!
Guy. you are a walking encyclopedia.. are you speaking from first-hand experience.. waow.. I cut double-salute to you sir cheesy I thought I was the only 80s dude on nairaland

PoliticsRe: What Are You Doing To Improve Nigeria? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 1:46pm On Oct 29, 2012
shizzle11: Call me a pessimist or whatever, but the question of improving Nigeria is much more than nurturing a plan in mind or writing it down on a sheet of paper. I bet most of us want an improved Nigeria but from my experiences as a Nigerian living in Nigeria, you'll agree with me that as long as we have more dubious and questionable people in positions of authority and political leadership than credible persons, then I'm afraid improving this country this country will continue to seem an impossible task.

As a law abiding citizen, paying my tax, advocate of anti-people policies etc, I'm doing my bit at improving Nigeria. I'm not lending credence to any political party. As far as I'm concerned they're are all thesame. In fact those who are seeking to control power at the national level will even be worse than the ruling party.

@ogugua, people do not say this country is doomed for nothing or as some refer to it as a pithole, it is because of what they have seen or heard and/or felt. It is okay to have ambitions or dream big, unfortunately Nigeria isn't a country that encourages positive dream rather it will scuttle your dream as soon as you conceive them, that's why not a few people have giving up on the country. Too many things are wrong with this country I tell you.

Waiting for the tantrums!
An unrepentant cynic.. but here he says a load of TRUTH here. no one disagrees, we are only saying that you cannot sit back and do nothing but complain. change can be slow but it is sure as long as you keep at it.

short-term - use every waking opportunity i get to tell my fellow Nigerian to.. WAKE DA FKUC UP angry
long-term - remind every fellow Nigerian that we are victims because we choose to be, our leaders are villains because we made them so. It lies within every Nigerian to change Nigeria not prayers, not complaining and definitely not the WEST can do it for us.

PoliticsRe: Kaduna Christian Youths Just As Criminal As The Catholic Church Suicide Bomber. by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 9:42am On Oct 29, 2012
Following the suicide attack wherein a suicide bomber drove into a Catholic church in city of Kaduna, reprisals were swift and indiscriminate. While rescuers were still trying to reach injured victims, angry Christian youths armed with macheties and clubs, beat to death two passers byes who were believed to be Muslims. Separately an okada guy suspected to be a Muslim was beaten and him and his bike were douced with petrol and set on fire.

Is this what these so-called Christian youths are being taught in Church. These youths are not the extremists, yet the behaved in such a barbaric manner.

We thank the JTF for putting pressure on BH extremists, but who will control these wayward youths huh
Just 2.. only 2!!! angry angry these Catholics are nothing like their counter-parts in the Dark Ages.. grin
PoliticsRe: Do You Read/Listen To Presidential Condemnations Of Boko-Haram? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 9:29am On Oct 29, 2012
Condemning a negative incident is a Political play that Nigerian Politicians have used so much that it bears no meaning or value to those affected or to the Negative Political perception they are trying to manage. Of what use is condemnation when there is no immediate ACTION
Christianity EtcRe: For Atheist And People Who Just Mock God. :-\ by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 5:18pm On Oct 28, 2012
Ohh Nairaland Christians.. I truly admire them in all honestly.. to quote from an earlier post which helps me manage my expectations of Nairaland Christians

lagerwhenindoubt: Opinionated list - @OP you showed your hand before you even played the game grin

1: Practical Christians - Spirit-filled, Wisdom-imparted and Commonsense-minded
2: Impractical Christians - Passion-driven (zealots), Knowledge wo Understanding and Faith-wearing Christians
3: Illiterate Christians - Faith-filled Vegetables

Examples of Practical Christians
Presumably 10% of Nairaland Christians fall into this category. You know you fit in here when you Study the Bible with Wisdom and Apply it with Understanding. This readily brings to mind the man Jesus when he quotes Hosea 6:6: "I desire mercy and not sacrifice." Jesus gives an illustration that explains His point. Anyone would have pulled a sheep out of a pit, even if it were done on a Sabbath day. This would definitely constitute work. Normally it would be forbidden. But Practical Christians would agree it could be done under these emergency circumstances.

Examples of Impractical Christians
Presumably another 10% of Nairaland (Inter-denominational) Christians fall into this category (you know them wink). You know you fit in perfectly when you Live your Faith by Faith Alone and nothing else. They believe every doctrine by Faith and also apply it by Preaching and fanciful words with Zero Wisdom (Motivational Christians). The Evidence of their Faith is in Proclaiming it and not Practicing it. These types are quaintly described in James 2:14-17 "What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. They are great at arguing to a point of numbing mental attrition

Examples of Illiterate Christians
These categories of Christians make up 80% of Nairaland Christians - They are filled and over-flowing with Faith (no works, no wisdom and definitely no understanding). They have a verse for every Blessing and Curse under the Sun - they have no memory whatsoever of the Meaning of the Book and Chapter.
These class of Christians can only quote one verse per issue raised and cannot raise references from various books to support their position. You will find them saying things such as "Touch Not My Anointed" or "Judge not" or "God Knows Best" or "Man Plans but God Fulfills" or "Heaven Helps those who help themselves" or "Rest in Peace". They are pristine experts at misquoting the Bible and refer to their pastors as Daddy, paying Dangerous Tithes while their Families StarveFast for Divine Harvest from Heaven once every year.

So there you have it... find your level

Godprophet: Dear Beloved

I COME TO YOU IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH

Thus saith the LORD GOD; Nigerians should go down on their knees and repent from their wicked ways. Thus the yoke of destruction has come upon it citizens. There shall be massive killings in the North soon saith the LORD GOD. They that have eyes let them read the prophecies of GOD

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Deuteronomy 4:30-31

When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

BRFers!! good move no doubt.. it is a no-brainer.. get rid of the accident-prone contraption and give Igbobi some rest and recuperation.. however therein lies the imminent problem.. how to manage these (usually) high-on-illegal substances, unemployed and aggravated-common-sense hoodlums (from far North Chad and Niger) who no doubt live among us in close proximity to our children, our wives, our husbands our livelihood given the scarcity of educated and well-trained, well-armed (well-fed) civil police force.
In typical Naija fashion, BRF tries the medicine before he can figure out the side-effects but hey, very few cure comes with side effects 4-times the pain of the illness.
1: Increase in non-tax paying, unemployed able-bodied populace that Lagos has to take care of anywayz
2: Increase in crime rates as well as frequency, boys have to chop come hell or high-water and the closer they are to sources of sustenance (that is us) the better. those prissy girls who get dropped off at bus-stops a long-way from their homes will surely have the company of our resident sex-starved agberos to contend with.
3: Increase in ghetto population. coz all they know how to do is.. (yes, you guessed right. make sweet unprotected love angry damn it nairaland bot #@3f) and guess who pays for all the free (subsidized) health care?
4: Kidnap trends have shown that perpetrators have had some education even up to tertiary levels, imagine the unsophistication these breed of ex-okada riders will bring into the game.. hmmm I wonder.

Perhaps an antidote is in play..
1: Increase in transportation options, completion of light rails (without attendant high fares and tolls)
2: State Police (that are not all Muslim-yorubas like LASTMA)
3: Actual use of the vaunted city-wide CCTVs for fighting/reducing crime rates.

No doubt the festive seasons will throw up nasty challenges in the area of Security. I am sure Fashola has a huge vat of elbow grease to tide us through.

Up Fashola!! Eko oni Bajeooo!!
