A silent revolution has begun - a new kind where children will feed on their mothers .
1: Watch-out for that poorly-paid houseboy/girl who has siblings to take care of and his own family to feed. one day he/she will run-off with your kid for money-rituals
2: Watch-out for that beggar in traffic, one day he will pull out a knife and stab you in the throat, snatching a few notes from your glove-compartment while your bleed like a hopeless cockerel as other Nigerians drive past disinterested.
3: Watch-out for that Police man who always looks like he has got the weight of the world on his shoulders, one day the wrong smile will bring the weight of his AK47 on your head - splattering your brains all over the car seat
4: Watch-out for those bunch of unemployed youth hanging around the aboki kiosk as you go to work everyday, one day they will find gainful employment breaking and entering your homes to make a living
5: Watch-out for those hawkers in traffic who trudge miles on hot tar to sell you 50 naira chips, one day they will sell your kidney, liver or heart to traffickers in body parts for $5,000
6: Watch-out for those group of bad kids who attend your child's school, one day he will be asked to join them on a fun-trip - he will never return.

All of the above are based on actual events not fiction - the impoverish Nigerian populace will feed on the next best meat they can lay their hands on - YOU! not the Corrupt Politicians in their High-Electrified Fence nor the Pastors in the secured Earthly Mansions - it is YOU! struggling to make a honest MiddleWorking-class living in this hell called Nigeria. Yes. YOU! - remember that when next you decide not to take honest and necessary steps to change the future of this country for the better

Christianity Etc › Re: I Heard There Are Different Kinds Of Atheism/atheist, Which One Do U Fall Under? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 7:42pm On Mar 19, 2012
@toba - soo much bile around the post grin Truth is you can classify Christians in similar manner - beliefs as only as strong as the basis of your conviction and that conviction can only be built either through Lies or the Truth. (Take a pick)

I do not agree with the classification in any way simply because as humans (strictly speaking) our beliefs are forged from Experience and only sustained by Faith through repetition or "Hearing the Word". It is no way different from Buddhism or Islam or Paganism. When a more revealing or deepened experience comes along, you will dump your beliefs and convert. It is simple a matter of conviction based on the experience (facts at hand) you went through. It is a fluid process. Only a weak mind will resign his fate to a vegetable rotting with worms.

We often make excuses for "God" claiming "His ways are unfathomable" and mysteries will be revealed at the "appointed time" IMHO I dare do a better job than God (if I was in his shoes) going by the inane explanations theists put forward. How can an evidently super-intelligent, all-powerful being be appropriated to acts of despondency, violence, inhumanity, silliness and immaturity and his most sophisticated creation with limitless potential for thought and reason cannot rise above the obvious to understand what is going on huh

OPC and MASSOB have lost out on this one grin grin grin
But Seriously, when a central government accedes to armed groups intent on destabilizing the government with amnesty, it will never end, tomorrow some miscreants will start blowing up stuff and our government will be all to kind to create another office and amnesty project to feed it. huh
Who authorised the mission- Britain
There were British soldiers involved
British lives involved.
Yet the British PM has not directly claimed responsibility, infact they do not really agree that the failure of the mission was due to them (even though it might be implied) but trust our presido, who should be tactfully dodging such question taking responsibility of a British authirized mission, ONLY OUR LEADERS CAN BE THIS UNDIPLOMATIC.
GEJ has thus saved face for UK and Italy thus cooling an emerging diplomatic fracas between Italy and Britain. while giving foreign watchers to chalk one up for Nigeria's lack of diplomacy in international matters.. so GEJ. what next, do you even realize this was an international matter? Hmmm guess tenor-elongation is what is critical on the minds of Nigerians now grin Dufus!

A Word of Advise - In Nigeria you never loiter near the scene of a Fresh Crime - Run away just like the Police do and watch from the safety of your home (move if it is close to the crime scene until things pipe down). Seriously, you could just be picked up for being a close suspect. angry

Car Talk › Re: Are High Mileage Cars Really That Bad? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 10:27am On Mar 13, 2012
I am often suspicious of posts like this because tt is often used to sell used-cars that even the manufacturers have specifically stated concerns on parts and operational functionality beyond a certain mileage (age). Lately dealers have been touting used cars from 1999 with 130k-140k mileage as actually very good deal. HOW! if you said a 2007 car has 130K-140K mileageI can understand it was driven long-distance on good roads with a good repair-shop to maintain it.

Why would any honest dealer bring in a car that is first of all 15-20 years old with 130k Mileage and try to sell it off as a good deal What Gives!! grin It is not a Good Deal. Buyers beware. Why are OLD used cars with High Mileage sold very cheap? if they are such a good deal for Nigerians.

It is now a trend (ugly one) that dealers are touting 100K as the NEW LOW Mileage - Maybe I am missing a lot but avoid cars between 1999 and 2004 that have over 100k+ mileage. It will do well on American/Euro roads with good maintenance not Nigerian roads with dodgy mechanics - you are just asking to be cursed all year long. My Honest Opinion

Nairaland General › Re: Let's Give Seun Time To Rebuild Nairaland by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 7:34pm On Mar 12, 2012
I have deep respect for Nigeria's foremost Webpreneur. Nairaland is not just a business, it is an eco-system with complex living things (called Nairalanders).
Change is Good if it does not destroy the Eco-System, Balance must return or else the species will die off slowly and the Eco-System will become a desert. huh I can see he has listened a lot but I fear his passionate attachment to Nairaland is clouding his perspective for what works and what does not.
I must have seen at least 8 posts that come with complaints of eye-pain when looking at the new NL. I have experienced some visual disorientation but I am adjusting. Try visiting this site in the dark and switch between Yahoo or any other site to see the immediate effect on your eye muscles. It is as if the eyes are trying to adjust to the varying colors and arrangement . He knows best what he does best smiley

Hello Seun

You have come along way with Nairaland 1.0 and to say the least, it has quite a huge appeal and i do not think it is because of its looks or features. It is simply because Nairaland of its usability. I like the fact that you are listening and actually considering people's views. my take is that change is necessary for survival, but change should be for the better (not otherwise)

1: The visuals are jarring and it really hurt my eyes trying to tell what from what.
2: Nobody owns his section. It is as if each paragraph of the page is trying to become a landmark on its own. rather than all the parts forming into one cohesive usable whole, I see broken-down parts related to a single tasks each struggling to make an impact on the page. It can be confusing to follow.
3: Consider the vain things - asides content, users love the feeling that their posts are pregnant with their passion - signatures do that
Hey !! where is the post button... okay there it is. It would be nice to have the "Modify Post" link at the Bottom Right/Top. hey ! where is that Post button

All we do is talk and talk and talk and talk about it - who is thinking of the most practical ways of effectively reducing the problem - when you sit to discuss means of doing so, you hear nairalanders calling for more dialogue (more talk) we have been talking for more than 50 years -is it not time to do something rather than talk

Politics › Re: Obama Calls Ghana ‘model For Africa’ by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 11:19am On Mar 09, 2012
Nayah:
Evolution is about mentality, progress and education, it seems Ghana has got
Do you that the Ghanaian governement is unpopular because Ghanaians think that Atta Mill should follow John Kufor's economic plan for developpment but apprently he doesn't, but it doesn't matter Ghanaian are still working hard for their country wihtout complaining all the time about their governement, and that's what I would like country like Nigeria get as well

I've seen so many threads about the "weak FG" and so on  but we Africans what do we do for our country? Have we have to always wait for governements to build and work hard for countries? Yes some head of states are weak but the solution will not come because we're complaining or by heaven, we need to trust more in ourselves and in our respective lands
Let me see - My street has not been serve Electricity for the past 1 month. I can confidently say that in that period hundred thousands of Naira had been spent on diesel and petrol for generators. in the end each flat contributed N1,000 to buy a PHCN Transformer from PHCN - You see why we always complain about our weak and incompetent government  huh is that not been budgeted for? do we not pay our bills, is it not their responsibility to provide transformers?

A Major road is in need of repairs and the residents of the area have suffered immeasurable loss of time, money to car repairs. a few corporate organizations and individuals offered to perform minimal repair-work on the road to alleviate the problems they were faced with =- guess what. the Local Government Council prefers that the funds be paid into their account so they can undertake the repair work professionally  shocked the road has gone worse since late 2010. I have lost one car on this road during the rains and still yet, we await Government intervention, having failed to do it ourselves  huh

Why should people not blame their government

Bawss1:
How does that statement amount to disrespecting the president?

Anyways no one needs the waste that will result with all this inter party bickering. The challenges that are before this country do not give room for the nonsense that these parties are fond of raising.
You are right ma guy have you taken a look at our parties today, filled with self-serving ingrates who were lucky to have survived the Abacha era. they have now turned to demons that we tried so hard to exorcise. ACN, PDP are pregnant with the likes of incompetent buffoons whose goal is to reign at some official capacity without delivering any value save for abusing each other
