US forces on Saturday rescued an American citizen taken hostage by armed men earlier this week in Niger and held in northern Nigeria, the Pentagon said. “U.S. forces conducted a hostage rescue operation during the early hours of 31 October in Northern Nigeria to recover an American citizen held hostage by a group of armed men. This American citizen is safe and is now in the care of the U.S. Department of State. No U.S military personnel were injured during the operation,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement. “We appreciate the support of our international partners in conducting this operation. The United States will continue to protect our people and our interests anywhere in the world.” The mission, which was several hours long, was conducted by the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6 who were flown to the region by Air Force special operations, a US official with knowledge of the operation told CNN. The US forces who conducted the mission killed six of the seven captors, the official said. The US believes the captors have no known affiliation with any terror groups operating in the region, and were more likely bandits seeking money. The State Department confirmed earlier this week that a US citizen had been abducted in Niger. Local media outlets reported that the US citizen was a male missionary. CNN has not been able to confirm the citizen’s identity. The governor of the local region where the abduction took place was quoted in various local media and by French media reporting from Niger as saying that six men on motorbikes armed with AK-47s came to the man’s property in the village of Massalata, close to the border with Nigeria. The governor, Abdourahamane Moussa, told these media outlets that after demanding money, the men took the American citizen with them in the direction of the Nigerian border. CNN

I really wish Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was contesting under a different citizenship. Nigeria don't deserve her at all, just like the country doesn't deserve many people. The countries that have endorsed Okonjo mostly do so out of spite to the US and not because they thought she is the best person for the job. If Trump isn't the president of America I can bet you the South Korean candidate would be cruising to victory as we speak. Most of these counties don't give a shit about Nigeria and they certainly don't care about who is most qualified for the job, they only care what the DG would do for them and what allies they would get in the long run. There are some couple of things the United States would never want and I am certain they share the thoughts of some countries as well. Top on the list is Iran being a member of the WTO or China getting tax waivers. As things stands the countries that have endorsed Okonjo did so because they all have something in common which isn't the love of country or their love for her but simply their hatred for Trump which is understandable and completely justified but she still doesn't stand a chance against South Korea. The United States does not trust Nigeria, heck they don't even trust Africans because they see Africa as a colony of China now and we would do Chinese bidding. Secondly is the issue of corruption and the growing rate of Islam in African countries. This doesn't go well with American ideology at all. In all honesty I wish for a better Nigeria and perhaps maybe we could be considered for the job on merit instead of politics and on one hand I want her to win but on the other hand I don't want a Nigerian to be the DG, not with this set of leaders that we have. Of what benefit is the position to Nigerian economy and how does that translates to the lives of Nigerian youth? I don't see the correlation. Take a look at AfDB and see how that is playing out. Kenya is doing better, in fact the whole of East Africa is better than West Africa in terms of direct impact of AfDB to their region. It's not that it doesn't get to West Africa but all the countries in West Africa believe Nigeria is limiting their chances of success at anything and it's due to the corruption and the people. They simply just hate us for the sins of our leaders. I really wish she gets the job if it will help the common man on the street and at least change our dear country. |
In all honesty after this #ENDSARSNOW, the next thing should be #ENDJUMBOPAY for Senators and House of Rep members. Add yours! |
Fleshly:If only the rest of the world thinks like you do. Smh |
Stop watering dead plants. Of what importance is this news to the public? Garba Shehu is doing his job, giving him publicity is only making the isdie worse. Building roads is not an achievement, it is what the citizens are entitled to. It is such a shame that these kind of topics get moved to front page. |

chinchonglee:That is a Gaboon Viper. The snake with the longest fangs. Extremely venomous and quite sluggish but if it strikes you, that's almost going to end up fatal. |

Ovie56:Lol...how is this supposed to win him an election in his home country? Need i remind you that the UAE and Isreal are sovereign nations on their own and they chose to agree on a peace accord only means their is something noteworthy for both of them. And the US was never at anytime going to attack Iran. Perhaps with Obama or Clinton they might but Trump never had the balls, at least not that big. He might be bipolar and myopic but he isn't that stupid. Talking about the pandemic now I kind of believe if he had taken more serious action earlier the US wouldn't be fighting this fight to contain the virus even though most nations are still in the blindsight of the virus. And economically with respect to international relations he has destroyed what took America and the world years to build, that is not repairing anytime soon. What Trump needs to worry about now isn't even the candidature of Kamala or Joe Biden but what exactly will happen if he does win because if he loses there is a certain fate that awaits him. That is a question for the sage I guess! |

hashtagged:If you really are fan or hardcore NatGeo fan as you claim then you would know lions aren't the smallest of the big cats and a single lion is enough against any animal, it doesn't mean he would win but if i were you I would stay clear of a lone lion. It is only a armor or siberian tiger that can kill a lion successfully because the two big cats kill by holding down on the wind pipe and the bite force of a lion is just not what to joke with. I think i should school you a little, do you know why the lion is called king of the jungle? Is isn't the biggest nor is it the fastest. Even rhinoceros are way stronger but they get killed by lions. Lions simply don't back down. A gorilla is not a flesh eating animal, it's just a docile ominivore like humans and their strength is only seen when fighting other silver back gorillas. When a lion sees other animals it sees food, when a gorilla sees a lion it takes to the jungle or trees. When a lion and a tiger fights, the tiger tires quickly because it is just too big and with extra fat comes weakness, same thing goes for the bear. But naturally, the lion and tiger are one of natures best killing machines. A lion is built to fight and that is exactly what it does almost all its entire adult life. |
hashtagged:Gorilla cannot kill a lion. Even a leopard kills a Gorilla. The fight is actually between the Bear and the Lion. Anaconda is simply extra meat. Unless the Gorilla has the brain of a chimpanzee otherwise it's fair game. |
Al Sisi is making a huge mistake by sending the military into Libya. It will further deteriorate the country. A lot of foreign powers have intervened in Libya unrest. It's a wrong move, very wrong move! |

Gforce2015:Oga Ade it is like something de worry you. Dem send you to me? For your information this is the latest ruling on working as an immigrant in Norway; Can foreigners work in Norway? If you come from a country outside the EU/EEA and wish to work in Norway, you need a residence permit. If you do not already have a residence permit, you must apply for a residence permit for work. Previously this was called a work permit. Want to apply: Work immigration - UDIwww.udi.no › want-to-apply › work-immigration Search for: Can foreigners work in Norway? |

Not true. It's just a firm that says they don't want Nigerians anymore. Although there is a lot of racism here in the UAE but many Africans including Nigerians are getting employed on a daily. |
