3 seconds from the semi-finals has now turned to a 2-hour wait at the airport for a flight back to Ghana. It should never have ended this way. Welcome to the world of football. That's the unpredictable nature of penalties even though he's a proven penalty specialist. |

Pele is a 1000 miles ahead of Maradona! ! Those who insinuate that there were others greats that made Pele who he was should please look for his videos and watch them again. One can as well say that the teams Argentina played against in '86 were not tough sides hence allowing Maradona to shine . King Pele! Prince Maradona ![]() |
topup:your words are not harsh at all but truthful. there's absolutely no gain in what you want to do 'poster' but only putting yourself in a deeper mess. Please retrace your steps and quit that evil thought. God help you all. |
Thank you for your contribution to Nigerian football. You always answered the clarion call. You will be cherished forever by Nigerians for your patriotism and mastery of the football game. God bless you! PS: People, responding a 12large's comments is a waste of good time and resources. He has no respect for anyone. His posts are always insultive, meaningless and without value . God help him. |
Osaze has lost his fanbase in Naija with these outrageous comments. The game just ended yesterday and he is already talking to the press. Truth be told, he had no impact in this squad. He did his bit in qualifying and the Nations Cup but thats it. If he is so good, why is he playing in Russia (and not even with the top side)? Utter disrespect for a coach, who in my opinion, did his best with the little time and limited resources (that is the players not his salary ). Truth be told, we did not have a squad that could compete. They were not fit; continually injured. Lagerback has done well in my opinion. The players cannot give what they don't have. All the goals we conceded came from errors or set pieces. No goal came from the run of play. That's not his fault. |
May I remind you all that: Alex Ferguson was almost sacked after his dismal start with Manchester United but was still retained and has won 18 Premiership titles, 2 Champiions League, etc Louis Van Gaal was almost sacked after a horrendous start to last season but he led them to two titles A coach is never rated after a month +. Nigerians we need to be patient. Our football is so bad now and we need time to rebuild it again. Thats what Ghana did and they are now a force again. CIV did the same thing. We have the character cos we have been in the semi-finals of the ANC since the 80s'. We just something extra to take the world and continent by storm. Let us give this man, if he is retained, the time to really work at least up to the Nations Cup in 2012. If we see no results, he can leave. I only would ask that he works with successful coaches in Nigerian like Kadiri Ikhana (winner of the NPL with 3 different clubs + CL with Enyimba), or the former coach of Enyimba who won their second CL title with them (forgotten his name) or Samson Siasia who may not have have won a world title but is very promising. |
If that is a yellow card offense, then Ivory Coast should have finished with 9 men with the tackles from Tiote and Keita himself. Too bad for CIV, cos the player and team capable of doing them a favour in beating Portugal will certainly have a change of mind. |
otokx:what makes you think so? Remember they lost to England (friendly) and USA (confederations cup). If they are so good, they should have easily qualified from their group. |
Dont know who to support: My favourite team after Naija team (Brazil) or the african contingent (CIV) ? |
Do unto others what you want done to you the good book says. I hope anyone cursing Kaita now does not mind being cursed to his/her death when he/she makes a stupid mistake in his/her home, work or life |
yusuf01 (1st page) gave the right response for me. I am ashamed at the rubbish I have seen on this thread and similar ones on Kaita and Lagerback. That's why we have not progressed as we would like as a nation. God have mercy on us impatient, curse-filled, arrogant, ignorant, clueless and merciless Nigerians. |
suedoh2006:Kai! This is more than just indecent dressing. He is living with and attracted to the 'tempter'. Its a thing of the mind. You must cut it off. You don't negotiate with temptation when you are struggling with it. The guy isn't strong enough to handle from what he has written and even the housemaid knows by now being indecent. |
@ poster, we are only tempted by what we allow. The Bible tells us to FLEE from all appearances of evil. You don't face temptation, you run away from it. Since, you have allowed her to be a temptation to you, you better send her away now not later. God bless. |
femmy2010:so u already have your answer, |
@ poster, what do you understand by tithing and giving of offerings? Its a service to God. This can be a test. I will look at it from the point of tithing and giving of offerings. If you give your tithes, according to Malachi, the Lord will rebuke the 'devourer' for your sake. God can make your debtors wait patiently until a later date. Yes He can! If you don't do tithes because of what you believe but offering, the Bible teaches that give and it shall be given back to you, good measure pressd down, shaken together and running over shall men give to your bossom. If you give sparingly, you reap sparingly, etc. Which is more important according to what you believe at this stage and in your state? Bringing your tithe/offering /gift to God who makes even your enemies to be at peace with you or paying your debt to the man who is on your neck? Its your decision to make and its also a question of faith. Thats my perspective |

Its a game of two players with massive egos in Drogba and Ronaldo . Its going to be a great game from the Ivorians and should be easy. They are better in every department except in set pieces . I see a lot of fouls, strong challenges and nerves ! If Drogba plays, I see a 3-1 win for CIV . If he doesn't 1-0 or 2-1 win for the CIV.Portugal will be looking for free kicks within Ronaldo range . |
pls leave the guy alone. read what he said himself and not how the papers reported it. he is not bragging and has already thanked God for it. he's simply telling us that one needs to do his homework in everything in life. 20 games does not mean he watched 20 90mins games. simply he must watched the clips (summaries) of Messi's games. its not too much. Even me wey no be coach but interested in the game and thinking on the formation we should play, watched on youtube at least 7 clips of games played by argentina in recent times and repeatedly their game against germany. Thumbs up Enyeama but we still got no point ![]() |
Princek12:i agree on the commitment stuff. the koreans are fast but they are a first half team. greece failed cos they decided to play the koreans game. normally they play 10-0-0 (exaggerating). they basically defend and break on the counter. If we can cover our flanks well, we can do the job easily. We also have the strength and quality compared to theirs. |
In my opinion, the game in itself was not that bad. The terrible thing is that we lost the three important points which this competition is all about. Lagerback did a good job yesterday albeit the loss of the points. Everyone admits thats we saw a team playing according to tactics and not as individuals and we can hope for better games. We need not repeat that the Argies on paper were/are better than us. It was always going to be difficult but I saw a team that played to the best of their abilities. They could not have run faster than they did or even shoot better than they did, but there's still room for improvement. Only Nsofor didnt play in this match. Unlike the friendly games, he was absent yesterday. Some attribute to the fact that he plays better on the left wing. The Obasi vs Osaze selection is a tough one. For me, Obasi was more purposeful when he had the ball. Osaze had times to cross or do something and he didnt. This was evident even at AFCON 2010. Osaze has the heart but sometimes he wants to do a bit too much. The coach is in this camp with the boys and he knows them better. If he did bench Osaze not for disciplinary stuff, then he has his reasons. An oga of mine is still bitter that we should have played a 4-3-1-2 (Enyeama, Odiah-Yobo-Afolabi-Taiwo, Kaita-Ayila-Etuhu, Lukman, Osaze/Nsofor-Obasi/Martins), so that Haruna could have been liberated from the defending job to help create in the attack, while Ayila stepped in to the defensive midfield. If would have certainly limited movement of the Argies but would have offered very little in attack. Its an opinion. I pray and hope that the boys get beyond the loss and put everything they have got into the next two games. Against Greece, it will be cagey cos they also want three points, so we need to scheme well. If we win, we just have to practically kill Korea to get the three points ![]() Please, no one should compare the Ghana-Serbia game with ours. . It does not even make sense. Its not the same level and if the Ghanaians played the way they played today against Argentina, they will lose heavily. @sagamite, I have admired your comments in the recent past but you are so off the mark with your quote below. "Yesterday we had: Poor touch! Poor passes! Poor shooting! Argies closing down and we losing the ball! Poor marking! Even poor throw ins for god sake! Poor team work! Lousy freekicks and corner kicks! (A friend on mine said the worst he had seen in his life) Players not running into the box! Keeper saving our arse after repeated penetrations! Players waiting for the ball when passed to them and letting Argies intercept! Predictable team list and formation! And no willingness to compete for most parts of the game!" Are you saying you didnt see the Argies commit almost all of these? Haba, there's no need to be so bias, |
Maradona has totally rubbished the Nigerian team with his formation and we need to shock him. he's playing a 3-4-3, meaning its very offensive and he wants to use his midfielders (messi will play from the midfield) to draw out the defenders, so that they can square passes for the wingers. they will hardly play any air balls. this means we only need to track the players (not man-marking). something like inter vs barcelona. we cant play a straight 4-4-2 but a more 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1, meaning we secure the wings with two defensive midfielders (kaita and etuhu/ayila), with the third (etuhu/ayila)in that line covering the centre and assisted by an attacking midfielder (lukman). the attack needs to be carried by two quick persons (nsofor, martins, osaze, ideye, obasi buy not yaks) i think we can beat them. Lagerback is a defense-minded person and its shldnt be difficult for him. i predict a shock 1-0 or 2-0 naija win. I hear that Messi is exhausted and it may hamper his game to our advantage . |
sultan003:Perfect observation. thats their game plan. i hear they are deploying a 4-1-3-2, with Messi playing from the midfield, and Tevez starting upfront with Higuain. Exactly the same plan against Germany. Its a very offensive plan but puts a lot of pressure on Mascherano. Obviously, they believe we cant do anything or we are so slow. I think we can win this game if they play that style and if we play a 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1 (Brazil's style). This will mean we may need all our four defensive midfielders. However, Lukman will play as an attacking midfielder, staying in front of the Ayila-Etuhu-Kaita combo. Ayila and Kaita are needed to cover for the fullbacks effectively with only Lukman allowed to rove from the attack to the defense at will distributing to Nsofor and Osaze (my choices) + Yaks / Martins /Kalu / Ideye. He needs to break down the effects of Veron, while etuhu should simply handle Messi with support from one of the centre backs where needed. I hope we get a win. It will be refreshing like a vacation . |
Why are we so negative and insultive? the guy is motivating himself and whats wrong with that. he's setting a target for himself and guys are insulting him. haba! let the guy be joor. |
![]() Omotayo Mobolaji Johnson, a geologist and staff of Chevron PLC has been arrested in connection with the attempt to kidnap a bank executive at Ikoyi, Lagos. Two middle-aged suspects, Tommy Ebikeme and Edward Anigbhoro were also arrested during the June 1st kidnaping which the police said was masterminded by Mr. Johnson who allegedly used a pseudo name ‘Olumide.’ He was allegedly assisted by a woman called Anita to recruit both Mr. Ebikeme and Mr. Anighboro who are militants from the Niger Delta, to carry out the kidnap. Their luck ran out when the police got a tip off and arrested them when they were about to kidnap their victim at Ikoyi. The Lagos State commissioner of police, Marvel Akpoyibo while parading the suspects at the state command yesterday said the command’s intelligence -led policing strategy led to the arrest of the suspect. “Events that led to the arrest of the suspects started on June 1st, 2010, when the command’s intelligence Unit intercepted information that a group of persons had perfected plans to kidnap a high profile target in Lagos. Members of the gang recruited from the Niger delta of Nigeria were said to have intended to kidnap the target victim from his office in Lagos island and whisk him away to Ibadan, where Omotayo Mobolaji Johnson had a farm at the outskirt of the town where the victim was to be taken to, after which a demand for ransom will be made.” He said, “Acting on the strength of the information, intelligent and undercover operatives were deployed in and around the office and premises of the target victim for high level surveillance mission, the efforts of the police yielded positive result when hours later, operatives were able to effect the arrest of three suspects connected to the plot.” Mr. Akpoyibo added that preliminary investigation shows that the kidnap was masterminded by Mr. Johnson. “His wife works in one of the companies owned by the father of the target victim. The suspect worked with one Anita now at large. Mr. Johnson owns a four star hotel and other investment in Ibadan. He promised the other suspects a cash reward of ten million naira from a windfall of fifty million naira expected to be made from the illicit deal if the victim was taken to Ibadan. Some substances recovered from the suspects include sleep inducing drugs, syringes which they had intended to inject the victim with the substances Halothane and Velum to facilitate his losing consciousness before moving him to Ibadan.” Mr. Akpoyibo said. Mr. Johnson however declined to comment on his involvement in the crime. He said “I will not say anything until my lawyer is here.” Mr. Ebikeme however confessed to the crime. He indicted Mr. Johnson saying he was the one who recruited them and drove them to the scene of the botched kidnap. The oil company, Chevron could not be reached as at press time for its comment. I still can't believe it. According to the Punch Mag, he earns 1.2M monthly. Could it be a set-up? http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5577485-146/story.csp |

Kgdavid:good one there |
she should leave immediately. its not healthy at all. if a boyfriend can do this before marriage, what will he not do afterwards (if they get married) ![]() |
deb:thanx deb. i appreciate. Against the Argies, there is no room for midfield and wing play from them, otherwise we r finished. We need the likes of Kaita, Haruna and Etuhu. Obinna too. The pace of Obinna and Osaze can pose problems in attack. Yakubu is not fast hence he stays up front. My concerns are losing the ball in the midfield (Etuhu & Haruna, the chief culprits) and d standing defence (Yobo and Shittu cant start). In my opinion, we need players who can break down their play, hence more defensive midfielders than attacking ones. We dont need Obasi in this game. He was overly exposed against Saudi cos he's more attack minded. Gave the ball away too easily. The starting line-up for me was ok with the exception of Taiwo (just cant defend; should be moved to the midfield or wings), Yobo (too static, always ball watching) and Shittu (zealous but skill-less). Its so sad that Mikel isnt there. I would have been relaxed about quality passing and hold-up play (no need crying over spilt milk). |
mikeansy:r u saying you dont mind us losing a game but only that we play 'to our strengths'? . We are playing in the World Cup, where there is a trophy to be won. Its not a series of friendly games. The coach needs to find a way of getting results.Lagerback, in my opinion, knows we have poor fullbacks in Odiah and Taiwo when they defend. He needs players who can assist, so Kaita and Obinna are doing that. He wants to liberate Osaze and Yakubu, so dey don't come deep into the midfield often to retrieve the ball. Kaita recovers quite well and thats good for the midfield. Haruna is more versatile than any other player and does not have any problem recovering. Lagerback wants the players to recover the ball very well and it kinda worked today. I kind thing that Kanu's presence gave something to the attack. Yakubu impressed me cos he assisted the midfield a lot. Against Argentina I will go with: Enyeama Odiah Adeleye Afolabi Echiejile Kaita Etuhu Haruna Osas Yakubu Obinna Yobo is too shaky. He doesnt have a good foot on the ground. Plays as if he is panicking Kanu, Martins, Kalu, second half Viva Naija! |

. I see a lot of fouls, strong challenges and nerves
