Considering the fact that it is not his fault...it is the fault of the low oil price...which means that we do not have the foreign exchange to buffer the naira.

Hence the CBN governor is hoarding dollars so as to prevent the naira from depreciating too fast. (Soludo did the same thing in 2007/8.).

So, unless you have an idea to increase oil prices...which we do not control......you cannot curse PMB for it.

While I blame GEJ for not saving....and for reducing our savings from 60bn to 32 bn....the fact is...if he had saved...it would have just delayed the inevitable.

We are in this mess because Nigerians like you want free money. You do not want to be a manufacturing power like South Korea,Japan or China. You want an economy where there is a big naitonal cake for you to share....and where if you think you are not getting enough....you would promptly shout Biafra, Sharia, Jihad, National Conference,Marginalisation, Bad people, etc.

In my opinion, it is a good thing times are hard.Maybe we will end our addiction to sharing a non-existent cake.....and actually do some thinking and working.
See the difference between an intelligent Nigerian..... and a #Wailer?

Please, we need more of reasonable people like you on this Niaraland.

But unlike other animals it does not have the sense to run-away from predators despite its explosive speed! It rather jumps into the Bush, thinking it cannot be seen! grin

diordaves:
It's nice to see your project waxing on at full steam at that. It's always going to be challenging managing a project from overseas.

Taking a look at your current pix of your project, I can recall sometimes back you bounced it off the house on how to re-enforce a particular section of your project- I think a retaining wall or something of that nature. Now this brings me to ask if you are doing this all strictly by DIY? How? I just thought to myself you should not be seeking opinion of how to re-enforce a retaining wall if you have a certified structural drawing which should include the design for the "problematic" wall.

Now if you have a structural drawing and not just adding stuff as you go along, and if you are building according to the dictates of your structural drawing then this is all academic and no need to eat our hairs. But if you are building all DIY, you may want to re-visit these small issues as marked out in red:

# The left flank of the building is one long wall with just about two columns. I appreciate it is a bungalow but the land is not table flat which poses some serious structural challenges. How did your structural drawing interpret this stretch of wall without columns mid-way? Again don't you thing the foundation is too low? Or have you done back filling already? Now what kind of lintel is your structural drawing? drop lintel or "all round chaining" ? If you are going to use the drop lintel, you want to sit back and have another look at the wall.

# The layout of the building from the pix, I noticed that the courtyard is not "tied" to the rest of the building. It's a complete island smacked deep in the middle of the super-structure. Appreciating the fact that the land is not table flat there may be an increased risk of differential settlement. Further, why is the inner section of the courtyard loaded with columns but the outer section (coners as arrowed) nearer the gate are without columns? There is the question of structural stability flow. The roof is probably the structure that may "tie" the courtyard to the rest of the building?

Its a bungalow but on a slope, so your stock in trade should be structural stability flow:any re-enforcement on a particular section of the building should inter-relate with other sections of the building and tie the building together and not independent re-enforcement here and there.
You really broke it down into the nitty-gritty!
I deliberately avoided doing that because l know his "reaction to being corrected or any form of positive criticisms" (too self-concious) but then, we all owe it a duty to our fellow-man, to highlight areas of deficiency, especially when DIY is involved so that we can avoid "sorry-tales" in the future.
Lekki Gardens fiasco is all too recent

@Brabus, pls come and advice your 'pliend' o, you are Builder and he should at least listen to your own advice,
...chicken-coop or mansion not-withstanding, , structural stability is still essential. undecided

Politics › Re: 11 Herdsmen Killed In Oyo by lastpage: 2:32am On Mar 29, 2016
I have said it time and time again, these Fulanis must evolve from this nomadic pastoral lifetyle - it is incompatible with modern Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Nigerian farmers should start taking proactive steps to forestall loss of their crops to these Fulanis and their cows. I remember a documentary I once watched on the evolution of the modern Texas cattle ranchers. 19th century America had cowboys who roamed the Texas plains, causing untold damage to crops and farmland. This went on unabated until a new, cost-effective way to fence farmland (the barbed-wire) was invented. The barbed wire helped farmers to fence large expanses of farmland around at minimal cost, thereby safeguarding their crops and keeping off the cowboys and their cattle. Only with this restraint were the cowboys forced to evolve, and develop the famous ranch system we know today.

Check out the links below for more details:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbed_wire

http://inventors.about.com/od/bstartinventions/a/BarbedWire.htm

http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/barbed-wire/

http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/barbwire.htm

So, maybe it's high time Nigerian farmers embraced this cost-effective invention. Help yourselves, if the government won't help you.
But that dofus of a Minister called Audu Ogbeh, being a farmer-politician himself, is suggesting an utterly foolish solution - Grazing Corridors, from Northern Nigeria to the East and West!

Who is gonna pay for those land, to the owners of the land?
Since he has imported Grass from brazil, why cant Auduh Ogbeh set up a company that "grows/manufactures "Brazil grass" so he can sell it tothe Nomadic Herdsmen, to feed their Cattle while the Cattle are kept in a particular location?
How difficult is that?

Farmers just have to protect themselves and their cash crops, BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE.
But l will suggest that State Govts should as a matter of urgency. pass laws at the state assembly, that criminalizes "open street ranching and grazing", within their states.
Anyone that wants to move more than a SINGLE CATTLE, for any reason, must use Vehicular transportation. End of Story.

Health › Re: A Father's Daunting Experience With A Traditional Bone Setter by lastpage: 9:11am On Mar 28, 2016
EdDave:
Many Orthopaedic Drs have referred their patients to local bonesetters. It all boils down to the level of expertise of those involved and the available resources. Like someone said, not all bonesetters know their trade (the best ones mostly use some form of witchcraft, which I find kinda awkward), in same vein some orthopaedic hospitals either lack the expertise or the equipment to handle some fractures.
The first Drs that tried casting my leg did a terrible job. Had to redo it twice. But Dr Aremu and his orthopaedic technician corrected everything just once. All in same hospital.
Same thing applies to local bonesetters.
Very-well said!

But the highlighted caught my attention and l am compelled to ask: Why do you say Witchcraft? What is Witchcraft? grin grin

Let me elucidate reactions from you or anyone:
- Is Witchcraft defined a "any craft that we dont understand"?
- Since it is a combination of the word "Witch" and Craft, let me also ask: Who is a Witch? shocked shocked
- Is anyone who does things that seem "impossible" or out of the extraordinary (supernatural ), a Witch? grin

As someone who has lived at "very close quarters" with a Bone setter, l can tell you that they do "things beyond understanding" but they are not Witches! grin My Grand Parents are gifted Bone-Setters and it runs for generations in the family.

Yes, the "original Bone-Setters" use incantations to follow and confirm their treatment. It is actually the "major ingredient" in their treatment but l can tell you it is nothing bad nor is it witch-craft (They are not Witches o! ).
Even at that, incantations are as old as the World itself so it is a good exercise to find out what these incantations are, what they mean and their effect.

Ofcourse, we cant discuss such things in a place like this, not because of any 'secrecy' involved but because serious discussions cant be exposed to avenue for ignorant and childish responses from anonymous posters.

Having said that, the "summary" of the whole thing is that "The World was created" when God Spoke "the Words": Let there be this and that".
The 'exact words' spoken are lost in translation, just as the "real name" of God (and the many variants we call HIM today) is lost in translation.

These "words" are the 'origins' of what we call INCANTATION, today....... which those who still know a few of those words being ignorantly referred to as practising Witchcraft! undecided

Remember God asked Adam to "name" every living thing, at the beginning. Most of those "original names" are also lost to humanity.
For the sake of brevity, anyone who knows (by chance, training, meditation, e.t.c) the original names..... and their usages, can physically "Move Mountains"!

*When people "speak in tongues" (genuine tongue-speaking), they are uttering incantations ...... but not practising Witchcraft.
*When traditional healers "speak same words", they are uttering incantations ......... but not practising Witchcraft
*When Scientist write down "those same words" in form of "equations and mathematical expressions", they are using incantations but not practising Witchcraft!
*Philosophers like Aristotle, Albert Einstein, Blaise Pascal, Confucious, Galileo Galilei, Karl Max, Montesquieu, Plato, Pythagoras, Socrates, Sun Tzu, e.t.c, all knew the original names/words ..... and used it to do great things that benefited mankind..... just like our traditional Bone-setters, but they are not Witches, if we stick by the general definition of Witches as those who practice the "craft of evil"

God was the first to practice "Witchcraft" ..... when he spoke the word and something physical (The Earth) came into existence!

So, you see, what you call "Witchcraft" (incantations) is not a bad thing as we are made to believe..... if used for the good of humanity.

Think about it...... with a blank but open mind. undecided
