Lukgaf: But dont you understand my explanation since. The basis is the country combines Muslims, christian and other religion. Muslims have the one they go out before even before Law school started. should they inconvienient themselves or face the wrath of their creator because they want to go to school? until you guys understand Hijab is part of our sisters' dressing, Muslim sisters without hijab is like a body without head. We are not competing religion as for the Hijab wearing as many think. but they are not complete as human being without the hijab. pls try and understand that and the fact they dont force you people to cover your head or not wearing on your head should not cause any problem at all my friend. Let us tolerate one another pls! we own this country together. To reiterate, Our Hijab is like head on the body, without it, they are not completed. Thanks You are the one that has refused to understand the simple facts! Lawyers have been wearing the wig and gown as the approved outfit for court appearances, since this country became independent, and since law school started in 1962. The only approved, prescribed uniform for lawyers appearing in court, is the wig and gown - NOT wig and hijab! Many female muslim lawyers understand this part, and they comply with the legal requirements of the profession. They have been doing so, since this country called Nigeria was created. Any Muslim female who feels she is incomplete without a hijab, should NOT study law, because the hijab is not approved for the use of female muslim lawyers within the court, here. Instead, such a woman can study teaching, nursing or any other course that permits the use of a hijab. It sounds crude, but that is the only way to get the message across to people like you. It is not by force to study law! Now, since I believe you went to school, this fact must be simple enough for you to understand. But if you still want to argue without understanding the facts, like you have been doing, please ask God to give you wisdom so that you can stop sounding clueless! |

Besides, most young people using glasses often look like nerds. I started using glasses a few months ago and it was such a great decision. People should be educated on this point of yours. Well said. I know people who have worn glasses for almost 40 years, and their vision actually improved! Opticians and ophthalmologists need to create more awareness, about this issue. |

xreal: You have answered the question you asked.
If all the drivers and riders are mandated to conduct eye test, glasses will be recommended to a very large percentage.
Most of them hardly do lots of reading, hence they see no need for the test and no reason to get a glasses.
If I see okada wey dey use glasses...I no go climb am at allll. Educate yourself. Prescription glasses are not used only for reading. They are used primarily for vision. You are far safer with an Okada rider who is wearing a pair of prescription glasses, that improves his eyesight and enables him to see moving and static objects clearly, than hopping on to a bike driven by an Okada man who has bad eyesight (unknown to you), yet still refuses to wear recommended glasses to correct his vision. It is a disaster waiting to happen! |

All he needs is to rent space in a big filling station, and put it there. The station owner then gets an add on license, that would enable the skid owner to sell his gas. |

Bloodbath in Enugu as Fulani herdsmen kill 40
NSUKKA—About 40 persons have so far been reportedly killed by some Fulani herdsmen at Nimbo in Uzo- Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, sources told Vanguard at Nsukka Police Area Command, near the area yesterday. The incident took place barely 24 hours after stories filtered out that no fewer than 500 heavily-armed Fulani herdsmen sneaked into the community preparatory to launch an attack. About seven villages in Nimbo (Nimbo Ngwoko, Ugwuijoro, Ekwuru, Ebor, Enugu Nimbo, Umuome and Ugwuachara) were among the areas attacked. Ten residential houses and a church, Christ Holy Church International, aka Odozi Obodo, were also said to have been burnt by the herdsmen just as vehicles and motorcycles were destroed and domestic animals killed. KORLAR: How does one just "discard" a religious practice? From all the information I've gotten on this hijab issue, no mention of her not using it in law school, I'd like to know where you got your information. And BTW, even if she wasn't using it in law school(which I doubt) and chooses to use it on the day she's to be called to the bar, its still part of her right to practise her religion.
In conclusion, to the best of my knowledge, there's no law that stops a hijabite from being called to the bar. The irony is the wearing of the hijab has the backing of the constitution which advocates freedom of conscience, thought and practice of religion.
I stand to be corrected. If you have proof that she wore it in law school, please paste the proof here. And wearing a hijab cannot be claimed as a right, when hijab was NEVER approved as part of the uniform for lawyers in the first place! In fact she signed different forms to abide by the rules of the law school, and the dictates of the legal profession, which never included wearing a hijab, as part of the uniform of the lawyers. So why is she breaking the rules now? Why do you chaps find it so hard to understand this simple issue? Lawyers have a prescribed mode of dressing to court! Before even applying to study law, everyone is aware of this fact, so why are you all pretending?? Can everybody can suddenly wake up, and wear whatever they like on top or below the lawyer's uniform, claiming it is their "right?" You people keep chanting the constitution, the constitution, as if it is some kind of religious invocation. Lawyers know more about the constitution than laymen, so why hasn't any female muslim lawyer worn a hijab with her wig and gown since 1962 when the law school was opened in Nigeria? Isn't it because they know that such an action is totally frivolous? |

I merely replied you in the same coin. There is NO injustice in this case. Hijab was NEVER part of the approved outfit for lawyers in the first place, since 1962 when law school started in Nigeria. Go and check. The injustice is from those people who now want to force an item of dressing (i.e hijab) that was never there in the first place, into the whole uniform. After signing different forms that they would abide by the rules of the law school, and the dictates of the legal profession, they now turn round to break it by demanding for a hijab, which was never part of the uniform of the lawyers, from inception - they are the real hypocrites! themomentng: Strong indications have emerged that the recent protest by the Ikeja branch of Nigerian Bar Association was politically motivated. This is because of recent findings that link major actors of the protest to the national legal adviser of APC, Dr. Muiz Banire who funded their activities with loads of money to print t-shirts, posters, fliers e.t.c and oil the pockets of the executives. Investigations have revealed that the association was allegedly hijacked by supporters of the National Legal Adviser who has been in a running battle with his mentor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the APC in Lagos state. Those in the know say many known supporters of the embittered legal Adviser were spotted in the recent march actively participating under the disguise of protesting against the Land Use Charge. In another development, the lawyer protesters who have been severally linked as sympathizers of a former governor in Lagos State boasted that their agenda is to dent Amode’s image and popularity under the smokescreen of populist fight against the amended law of land use charge by making Lagos ungovernable for Ambode. It would be recalled that in a rather display of comedy of errors, some group of lawyers, from Ikeja Branch, out of the five branches in Lagos State marched from Ikeja Roundabout to the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest the review of the state’s Land Use Charge (LUC) on Tuesday 13thMarch 2018.While is their democratic right to express their concerns or grievances on any policy, it is shameful when such agitation is jaundiced with political machinations and mischief. Interestingly and in a curious twist of events, these ‘champions’ have been shown to be tax evaders, or at best have been grossly under-paying for their properties. This has been revealed in an exclusive document obtained from the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). For instance, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, Barrister Adesina Ademola, Ogunlana, who led the protest pays a paltry pay-as-you-earn tax of N5,000 per annum. Same goes for the vice-chairman,Carol Ibharuneafe who also pays N5,000 annually as tax. More shocking is the revelation that the likes of the NBA Branch Secretary,Muna Esegine, the Treasurer, Coco-Bassey Thelma, the Social Secretary, Jemerigbe Eyinmofe and the Welfare Officer, Tanimowo Oluranti were not paying taxes as at 2009 as revealed by the same exclusive document! Others who paid taxes that cannot equate to liveable status are the Assistant Secretary, Adedokun Issa Akanji (N1,250), and the Publicity Secretary, Akinwale Ajibola (N15,000). This sad and sordid scenario throws up some burning questions. Do these gentlemen of the bar stand on any high moral ground to hold protests against a government that means well for the good people of Lagos State? NO! Truth be told, tax payment is an internationally agreed sustainable source of revenue generation. Anyone that does not support it certainly does not mean well for the state in particular, and Nigeria at large. Are Ambode's people saying that lawyers do not have a right to protest? This uncaring, insensitive govt jacked up Land Use Charges by over 400%, and is still saying that people do not have the right to protest against such arbitrary exploitative charges? What is all dis for goodness sake? Ambode's people are now making noise about moral ground ....ask them first, if govt has any moral ground to raise LUC by over 400% in a society where wages have been stagnant, the country has been in recession, companies have laid off workers, and the numbers of the unemployed, keep increasing by the day? Ambode should just answer this question: does he expect Lagos landlords to steal, to pay this new increase in LUC rates? |

FabioPeter: The problem is trust, we don’t believe we will get value for the money we pay. But, I think the govt has demonstrated in practical terms it’s motive to take Lagos to the next stage of development to do that you need money and property tax is one of the ways developed countries generate revenue.
From my calculation if the average property in Lagos is valued at 25m. Then the annual tax due will be about 11,000/annum. Less than 1k/month Cut the crap and stop the guesswork. The problem is NOT trust, the problem is the deceit of the govt. Each time they increased rates, they ended up using it for something totally different from what it was meant for. In some cases, the money found its way into private pockets. How many houses exist in Lagos, and how many of them are valued at 25 million? 10%, 20% or 40%? Nobody knows. So why use 25 million as an average sum? Did you do a survey? Nobody has come out to say they were billed such a low rate, which you quoted up here. The fact is that govt is the one calculating the market value of such houses, and working out the LUC charges which owners of such houses are to pay. Why? And who told you that govt will allow you to make monthly payments? Did you see a vision in your dreams? The charges have been increased by over 400% and landlords have been given less than 30 days to pay the full amount. Will they steal to get that money, to pay to govt? Someone who was billed 78,000 last year is suddenly being billed almost 400,000 this year, and you are one of those blindly defending such ridiculous rates? More than half of the money collected in previous years, were siphoned into private pockets. The same Ambode claimed he spent 12 billion naira buying diesel to power 31,466 street lights. When those in the industry calculated the true cost of diesel, it was discovered that he could not have spent more than 2-4 billion naira on all those street lights. What happened to the remaining 8 billion? Nobody knows. So please stop sounding clueless, it doesn't suit you. You obviously do not own a property in Lagos. I asked you a question in my last post which you carefully dodged: "Don't you realise that in addition to LUC, you would still pay extra charges for any electricity you consume, and pay for any pipe borne water supplied to your house, by the water corporation? Is it Lagos State govt that provides you with electricity?" Am still waiting for your answer...! |

We just like to make a mountain of a molehill. If the hijab does not stop her from being a good lawyer, then why can't she discard it? It adds nothing to her practise of the law. She was not wearing a hijab in law school, all of a sudden she arrived at the call to bar ceremony, and decided to drape herself in a hijab? Isn't that hypocrisy? Finally, go back and do your research. Female muslim lawyers were not given an automatic right in Western countries (except maybe USA that lacked a dress code for lawyers) to start wearing the hijab. But the hatred you have on Islam will not allow you to say the truth. Are they not Nigerian? Is it not thier right to wear what they like or do any profession they like with their way of religion. I am so disappointed in you and some others who because of Islam hatred can not say the truth. Your brain needs to be rebooted. After all the explanations given, you cannot see that your Firdaus was just being a drama queen, who decided to display her stuvpidity. She had more than 5 years to file a case in court, seeking approval to wear the hijab as part of her lawyer's robes, to court. She did not do so, but decided to wait until the day of the call to bar to throw a tantrum. Her name has now become synonymous with illogicality. She had ample time to raise a petition before the date of the call to bar, requesting the Council for Legal Education to change the rules in her favour. She did not do so. Can you see how immature she is? In several countries where there is a dress code for court appearances by lawyers, they did not suddenly change overnight to admit hijab wearing female lawyers. Many of those female muslim lawyers in such countries filed a case in court, seeking approval or permission to wear the hijab, as part of their wig and gown, before they were granted the chance to do so. In the USA, they do not have a prescribed uniform or robe, for lawyers, so most lawyers wear what they like, as long as it conforms to the notion of formal wear. That is why, there hasn't been much fuss over female muslim lawyers wearing the hijab in the US. Educate yourself and stop recycling crap like a parrot. |

Very clanish folks Those of us who are not even Yoruba, understand quite well what they are trying to do with the creation of the language law. Afterall, Anambra and Imo did something quite similar in 2011. In fact in Anambra, students still have to study Igbo compulsorily at 100 level in state-owned tertiary institutions as part of their general studies courses, even though the language is not part of the admission criteria. Is that not totally unfair, for a non-Igbo student? You apply to study at a state owned tertiary institution, only to be blindsided by such a language requirement after you gain entry into the school. Worse still, it is compulsory which means you cannot graduate or proceed until you pass it. I do not recall you or your clique ever complaining about such a law, because it was enacted in your region. Now Lagos has done their own version in a different way, by making Yoruba language compulsory for admission, and you are lamenting bitterly over it, as if their state-owned schools are your personal property. Chai!I may not agree with many laws passed by Lagos State govt, but on this particular language law, I can't fault them. There are other alternatives for those who do not want to attend state owned schools, in Lagos.

Did you ever see her wearing a hijab under her wig and gown, in the law court?Anybody that decides to study law, already knows what the uniform for lawyers looks like. So if you do not see lawyers wearing hijab, and you know it is not allowed, why not study another profession like teaching where it is allowed, if it is so important for you to wear your hijab? My point is, instead of reclaiming lands which will pose a hazard due to our poor maintenance culture, why not make good roads, train system available so peeps can come from other state and work in lagos and still go back without hitch. Those countries doing land reclamation have exploited all possible safer options before going ahead. But we? No!! We just want to be like them. Like I said, I am not against the reclamation, but we need to do the basics first. What do I know anyways? Good idea! Ever wondered about what is going on at the Oworoshoki waterfront?
Indeed, anyone that has passed through that part of Lagos would have noticed an enormous “sand filling” – or land reclamation work – going on there.
Once-upon-a-time, not-too-long-ago, that spot used to be a beehive of illegal dredging activities in Lagos.
So, after sand-filling the waterfront, whats next?
Well, here is whats next.
The Lagos State Government is working to transform the Oworonshoki Waterfront into one of the biggest transportation, tourism and entertainment hubs in Nigeria.
Yes. An elegant Mega Ferry and Bus terminus is about to be built at that once blighted location.
And that’s not all.
The Mega Jetty and Bus terminal will have other entertainment and Tourism facilities like multiple Boutique, hotels, museums/art galleries, sport and recreational facilities as well as a 1000 capacity car park, based on the design master plan of the area.
Upon completion, Lagosians would be able to embark on travel from Oworonshoki either via water, using the Jetty Terminal or via Ultra-Modern Buses departing from the New Bus Terminal.
This project is part of a grand design by the Lagos state government to reduce human and vehicular traffic gridlocks on the roads connecting the Island, Apapa and other parts of the Mainland.
Clearly, Ambode is not joking!

Igbo populace surpasses that of Yoruba in Lagos.
Same goes with wealth.
Everyone sane person who has lived in Lagos for at least 10 years knows this.
Thats why Ambode has been doing anything possible to restrict the Igbos. He has even created laws to prevent Igbos from gaining admission in Lagos state higher institutions (which is long dead before arrival).
Ambode created laws to make teaching n learning of Yoruba language compulsory in Lagos secondary schools, he also made laws legalizing the speaking of Yoruba language in Lagos state house of assembly (because igbos won seats there).
Even Fashola deported igbos.
Even after Ambode n tinubu finished rigging Lagos state governorship election results, The result was still too close.

.76% of 353,580,000 = N 2,687,208.00 if rented
This charge may be considered fair if the money is properly appropriated. in residential areas like this you pay around 10k monthly security, cost of running your gen about 40k/month, water/borehole and other sundry cost all amounting to over N600,000/Annum as against N268,720/Annum.
If the government guarantees good roads, security, electricity and water. this property tax is worth every penny. Communities should engage government via town hall meetings, make their demands and extract government commitment. We got to be pounds wise.
*What I find irrational is the % cost disparity between apartment rented out and that occupied by owner. How on earth can the amount ever be considered fair, when the govt is NOT going to provide you all these things like good roads, security, electricity and water and other sundry services for free even after paying LUC?? Don't you realise that in addition to LUC, you would still pay extra charges for any electricity you consume, and any pipe borne water supplied to your house, by the water corporation? Is it Lagos State govt that provides you with electricity? Your premise is totally faulty, sir! |

Bane2020: Of course you deflect once again from the question, shows you are just a hypocrite and a very unintelligent one at that. If your version of historical truth is what you will carry to your grave, then please don't pass that seed of ignorance to your children, rather let them read and have an unbiased perspective of their nations history.. Have a good life. Now, why should I answer your questions, when you refuse to answer mine? Like I asked you earlier: "Did Ojukwu let them know how ill-prepared their entire region was, in terms of men and ammunition, when it came to prosecuting a war?" You carefully dodged the question. Well, since you get a high from calling yourself unflattering names, I will not argue with you. The words 'hypocrite,' and 'unintelligent' suit you rather well. It shows you know your character, inside out. You even told us that you carry the 'seed of ignorance'. Interesting. Make sure you bequeath those seeds to your kids....

Bane2020: Now I'm justified when I call called you a dyslexic... You are obviously without mincing reality devious with the truth, however spurious and hackneyed your theories are, but I'll overlook your ignorance and all the balderdash you just typed and ask you again...against the backdrop of one of the worst pogroms in black history been meted out to your people, and you were in the shoes of Ojukwu, what and what would you have done any differently? note that you just wanted the mandate of your people to chart the course of their own destiny, without declaring war on the rest of Nigeria... but somehow shots were fired on your people FIRST by your aggressors, so on a passive-aggressive indices, what then would you have done? Please answer the question as honestly and cognitively as you can, cause I hate people who just revision history to suit their their diabolical interest. Hehehehe....I can see you are still ranting. All your rants and lamentations, will not change the fact that your Oxford-trained general led your people who were ill-prepared and ill-equipped into a war they could not win, which directly or indirectly caused the death of more than 3 million souls. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. Now, you can resume your rants! |

Bane2020: STFU you dyslexic slowpoke, so all the Igbos brutally massacred all over Nigeria was a fair "rationale" for them to opt out? Are you so daft or just plain insensitive to have ignored the immediate causes for secession? And if you must know Ojukwu DID NOT UNILATERALLY declare Biafra, he consulted with the Eastern constituents at the time and as a matter of principle got the mandate of the people to pull out of Nigeria, every Igbo and non-governmental in the East in the early stages of the bid for secession WANTED OUT. Ojukwu wasn't prepared for war and was only hyperbolic on his expressions and statements about the Biafran readiness for a armed conflict just to delay or avoid any war with the Nigerian side... Ojukwu wasn't the one that fired the first shots of war, Nigeria did in July 7, 1967 at the Biafran border towns of Garkem and Ogoja.
So don't come here and try "enlighten' about the remote and immediate causes of war, with your outlandish claims that Ojukwu led his people to a war that your dumb ass self forgot to understand why he did so in the first place, if you were in Ojukwus shoes, what would you have done?
And for the records, Brigadier Ogundipe wasn't the only officer senior in rank to Gowon...there were others like Brigadiers' Effiong, Imo, Colonel Adebayo and a host of other senior officers I can't remember, pick up a book and read. Guy, thank you so much for letting us know that 'dyslexic slowpoke,' is your middle name. Or is it your baptismal name? Whatever. And since you described yourself as 'daft or just plain insensitive,' how on earth can I disagree with you? It is such an apt description of yourself. You claim Ojukwu consulted with the Eastern constituents. Re-ea-ally? Records show that those he claimed to have consulted with, were the Eastern Consultative Assembly - a committee said to have been used as a ploy or an instrument, to serve as a cover for Ojukwu's ambitions, with the pretext of giving itself the appearance of legitimacy and authenticity, as the representative voice of the masses. Do your research. Elections were not held into that assembly, neither were those in it mandated to speak on behalf of their communities. Now even if the Eastern Consultative Assembly asked Ojukwu to go to war, shouldn't he have explained the inherent dangers and untenable position, they were in, to them? Did he let them know how ill-prepared their entire region was, in terms of men and ammunition, when it came to prosecuting a war? A true leader would have done so. Instead of ranting and raving on this thread, please pick up some good books (not propaganda material, o!) and read about the issues that led to the war. Just try to educate yourself. War does NOT prove who is right and who is wrong - it only proves who is left. |
