PoliticsRe: Electricity Consumers To Pay More In New NERC Regulation by LaudableXX: 3:04pm On Mar 20, 2018
Cromcruach91:
Which still means that they are (largely) in private hands....and generation too is in prviate hands.

You still have not answered the ultimate quesiton...which is where we are going to even get the $300million to fix up things.

Keep in mind that I am not defending poor service, or Buhari or GEJ....I am just stating the facts...and what we need to improve things...and it is bigger than you or i think.
Let govt put on their thinking caps, and look for different ways to fund the sector, instead of creating further hardship for the masses by making them pay more, for epileptic electricity supply. Govt has a huge source of opportunities and funding options, available to it. The masses do NOT. You are defending poor service, so stop the pretence.

We need $300 BILLION to get light 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our foreign reserve is $40billion. Let that sink in...and then we can talk. God bless you.
No individual, company or state can tax its way into prosperity, or raise its prices above the consumer's ability to pay. Let govt look for various other ways of raising the $300 billion USD instead of subjecting citizens to further blackout, and huge increases in rates that will cause further hardship! Let that sink in!!

DISCOS and GENCOS are not owned by government either...so good example.
Wrong!! angry The Federal Government only divested its interest in the six GenCos, while selling off 60% of its shares in the eleven (11) DisCos to private operators. The federal govt still owns 40% shares in these DisCos, and the Transmission Company still remains fully under government ownership.
PoliticsRe: Electricity Consumers To Pay More In New NERC Regulation by LaudableXX: 2:42pm On Mar 20, 2018
Cromcruach91:
Before we grumble...consider a few facts

1.When we privatised electricity distribution and generation, the price increase was written into the law that governs the thing.

2.We need anything between $300-900billion to get light 24/7.

3.Privatization means that you pay more from your pocket.

4.We have to pay our bills...and let's be frank...we pay bills lower than countries like Ghana...who pay twice as much as we do.

5.Electricity is not a free lunch.
Are you for real? huh So bloody what if the increases were written into contracts signed during privatisation? Can't contracts be re-negotiated, and laws repealed? Does that law give the DISCOs a right to use such increases to extort the masses? shocked

You pay bills lower than Ghana. Do you get the same amount of electricity supply that residents of Ghana get, every day? undecided Do you earn the same kind of wages?

Guy, please do not let me insult you. Electricity bills were increased less than 24 months ago under the MYTO Tarriff plan. Electricity supply hardly improved. Now, they are trying to invoke another increase. May thunder fire them all, over there! angry

Cromcruach91:
In 2002...we paid 10000-20000 for sim cards...and got bad service, high costs, etc.

Them money was used to improve things.

Same for eelctricity

We need $300billion for the thing to improve/ for light to be 24 hours a day, seven days a week.. Our foreign reserve is $40bn. So...who is going to pay? It is us...or we beg IMF. Comprende?
You are talking as if you are from outer space, and NOT a Nigerian. undecided When SIM cards were 10,000 naira at the inception of GSM Services in Nigeria, how many people had a mobile phone? huh When the prices dropped, how many people were then able to get a phone?

The same GSM companies that claimed per second billing was impossible at that time, suddenly changed their minds and started singing a new song, when Globacom entered the market and started charging subscribers on a per second platform. sad They quickly converted to per second billing, too!

How can you even compare the telecoms sector with the electricity supply sector? Are the variables, dynamics and the context the same? The electricity sector is a monopoly held in the grips of a cabal. Oga, you are wicked, o! shocked No individual, company or state can ever tax its' way into prosperity.....
PoliticsRe: Ambode's Land Use Charge: A Wake Up Call To Landlords Especially Igbos by LaudableXX:
knowledgeable:
The reason why, I am even trying to respond to your questions is because, you sounded genuine, and truth seeking .

Listen, it's only natural for any population group whom genocide was forced upon them(millions killed with a process and tacit that have persisted from the same genocidists without any enclosure or recause) to develop a unique mind set or world view different from their genocidists period. All your questions can be found in Nigerian history/politics/economic policies/demographics/religion/tribal and etc.

You first and second questions are the same.

The Yorubas did not only put gun in Igbo peoples head to come to lagos, but committed acts of genocide to achieve the status quo as it is today. Very simple to understand. Awolowo initiated the genocide, Obasonjo completed the task by a very long history of marginalization, denieyal of sea port/international airport/no infrastructure, roads or any other federal government presence in the SE/SS after the war. For a huge Igbo population, what other options do they have, other than a pattern of migration that was forced upon them. Lagos got the spoils of war, over head bridges, flyovers, international airport/deep seaport etc.

Today, Ambode has continue from where Obasonjo stopped. Igbo land is not cursed, self evidence by increasing numbers of Igbo businessmen flying Ethiopian airlines out of Enugu at all costs. I wish I have all the time.....
Genocide? shocked Do you know the meaning of that word? There are many different views on the civil war, and many observers have also made it clear that 'genocide' cannot be used to describe what transpired during the civil war. sad

The Oxford-trained bearded general who led the Igbo people during that period, actually led them into a war they were thoroughly ill-equipped to embark upon, highly unprepared to tackle, and totally unable to deal with. That was why they were defeated, and lost so many people. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. undecided The truth is also that your leaders within the SE region, have failed woefully over the years, to make your region conducive for growth and habitation, especially when it comes to the provision of infrastructure. This has led your people to develop a wanderlust.

There is a functional seaport in Onne, as well as international airports in Port-harcourt and Enugu. So why can't your people use those facilities? Port-harcourt International Airport has separate facilities for international and domestic flights. In 2009, the airport served 1,081,587 passengers, making it the third-busiest airport in Nigeria.

Some of the overhead bridges and flyovers in Lagos & Ogun, were built recently by the state governors of Lagos, and Ogun state. Ask your own state governors to do the same. sad

The reasons you listed above are inadequate to account for the daily migration of your people to Lagos, till date. Hold your leaders accountable for failing to develop your land. And follow up with them to ensure that your young people stop migrating into other lands, and stay back to develop their homeland. Their romance with wanderlust needs to stop.... undecided

Finally, you have still not answered all the questions I asked. You have only offered excuses to deflect them. So I repeat:

1). Did the Yorubas put a gun to the head of your people, and force them to come to Lagos? shocked

2). Did the Yoruba people make it compulsory for your people to buy land within Lagos?

3). Is there a curse in your region that stops your people from staying inside their region, and becoming hardworking so that they can prosper without having to come to Lagos?

Afonja is the most tribalistic in the history of Nigeria. From Awolowo, to Abiola, Tinumbu, Fashola and now Ambode. They stole our properties but we bounced back. They try to force their rubbish language on our children in Lagos but we will show them. This Ambode is the worst of them. He knows that Igbos are buying up all the land all over Lagos so what did he do? He increased land use charge because he know we pay the most Tax in Lagos and control the economy. Afonja why? Why are you so lazy and jealous instead of stopping to be lazy? Afonja should be humble and learn how to be hardworking from Igbos so that they can prosper like us. Igboland is already the fastest developing region in West Africa. Thank you Tinumbu, Fashola and Ambode for pushing us back to invest in Igbo land. But Mark my words, we will continue to dominate lazy afonja in their land because we are umu Chineke. If Ambode like he should increase land use charge times 1000, we will still continue to buy all your lands. Mark my words.
Is it the 'juju that the Yoruba people cooked for you that is making you rant and rave in this manner? undecided It is just a simple enquiry. Wait first, let me ask you some questions:

1). Did the Yorubas put a gun to the head of your people, and force them to come to Lagos? shocked

2). Did the Yoruba people make it compulsory for your people to buy land within Lagos?

3). Is there a curse in your region that stops your people from staying inside there, and becoming hardworking so that they can prosper without having to come to Lagos? sad

4). If Igboland is already the fastest developing region in West Africa, then why are you lamenting and still leaving the place? huh What stops you from staying put inside that your place and achieving progress there?

5). If you claim they are trying to force their rubbish language on your children in Lagos, how come you did not complain when Anambra and Imo state govt made the study and teaching of Igbo compulsory in primary, secondary and tertiary state-owned institutions, within their states? Why didn't you send your kids back to your region, so that they wouldn't have to learn that 'rubbish' language being forced upon your children in Lagos? sad

6). Did anyone tell you that this Land Use Charge (LUC) will not affect any other landlord, who hails from any other part of Nigeria, except the Igbo? I am not Igbo, yet I have received LUC charge, o!

All these are simple questions, o! shocked If you can answer them in your heart, truthfully and honestly you would realise that the only person who is at fault is you. My people and I do not come from the Southwest, but we live in Lagos. Yet we do not cry endlessly, or insult our hosts, like you and your people do. Even other tribes do not insult the Yorubas continuously or blame them for their woes. Or have you seen any Edo, Itsekiri, Isoko, Sayawa, Kanuri, Kilba, Igala, Nupe, Idoma, Bachama, Kamberi, Kalabari, Efik, Zulwa, Bura etc, doing so in Lagos? huh

PS: No hate mail allowed pls. If anyone spews insults in response, they will be regarded as retar'ded cretins and duly ignored. Thanks.
