Finding the right balance in your job search.

Recruiting is a tough job to do in this era especially with people quitting less than 4-12 months on a new job.

I was in a program yesterday and the facilitator asked that people should drop a comment; “current or another” if they are still in the same job since 2019.

The “another” job outweigh the “current” thus you see why recruiters job is tasking looking for that “right fit”.

I spend 60% of my time on this and like i always say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder so interviewing is subjective in most cases.

To determine who fits the role, here is how you can easily know if someone will be good at what they do.

👉🏽 They are self driven and this normally shows in their tasks and during interview, their energy is contagious as they weave their relatable experiences.

👉🏽 They hold themselves to high standard and results. This reflects when they share their failures and near-misses and taking responsibility for this.

👉🏽 They are goals driven and this reflects in their diverse skills.

👉🏽 Collaboration skills or team spirit, which reflects in their impact on their people and organizations by building bridges with others.

👉🏽 Very eager to let you know that they don’t want to burn bridges in their current place of work so notice period is a priority.

👉🏽Recruiting is you selling your personality, skills and values.

👉🏽Letting recruiters know what motivate you, what brings out the best in you, your learning development plans and how you intend improving yourself.

👉🏽Most clients want candidates that are self directed, those that feel bad at not being better but strives to bring out the best at all times, those that don’t wait for adulation before jumping to meet that need that others are afraid to do.

👉🏽Clients want candidate that are restless to bring value, make change to work processes, constantly improving and those that can drive themselves beyond their capacities.

👉🏽Clients want candidates that are quite creative and solutions- driven. It’s about finding a balance between technical competence and behavioral /soft skills.

Aside the fact that you can tick the right boxes in your expertise or knowledge area, clients want recruiters to see beyond the paper qualifications and the years of experience.

If you are looking to get hired, please develop your soft skills.

If you are looking to hire someone, my advice is to watch out for these skills.

He should compare other factors too , I believe non of them are owned by Lebanese, Chinese or Indians right?

If he has to take to VI job he will have to move to at least orile/Costain side.

COMPETITION: THE HIGHWAY TO DEPRESSION

There lived a man who had everything going on for him,jobs,money,flashy cars,in fact an epitome of a soft life.

There is another like we will always have, average, doing just fine,struggles here and there but scaling.

The struggling always wishes he was like this second guy,soft life,travels and all but what he doesn't know is that this flashy guy is on debt.

His business is so capital intensive that he needs loans to operate.

He goes borrowing from wealthy friends and even financial institutions.

Dont get me wrong,there's nothing bad in obtaining loans to foot your bills or invest in any profitable venture.

But this guy is just trying to measure up to his wealthy friends and does everything he can to attain this fake status.

He's heavily indebted,he barely sleeps, he is always seeking out ways to always measure up.

While this modest guy has his 9-5 secured,basic salary,peaceful homefront and a hope for a better future.

This first guy is way way ahead in terms of outlook but this other guy is alway average and modest.

What does this other person enjoy?

Peace of mind.

This act has fooled many to believe some people's lives are actually better than theirs while they give away their lives chasing after wealth that can never make them happy.

There's nothing bad about being ambitious but if you choose to look at the other person's success and feel the grass is greener in his garden.

It's time to water yours too not as to be in competition with such person but a way to better yourself.

Competition is way harder to curtail whenever you decide to join the bandwagon.

There will always be someone richer,more resourceful and more luckier than you.

Competition is a disservice to your wellbeing.

You cannot engage in competition and not get burnt because its something that will always keep you on your toes.

Athletes compete for honors,brands compete for market share but it's a facade for a human to compete with another human for quality of life that person choose to live.

Just like the first guy,you dont know what price he is paying for that lifestyle before you start the competition you are engaging in.

As an independent minded fellow,know that your journey in life like I always say is peculiar and never you give in to competitive thoughts.

Dont even entertain it.

Those thoughts are thoughts that should be DOA in your mind.

Why are you even competing?

Like I said earlier,there are situations where competition is healthy but human to human competition is never healthy.

Your competition should be yourself and your competence your priority wherever you find yourself.

The consequence of this unhealthy habit might take its toll on your health.

My friend, run your race because while you are on your lane,you could visualize your path and will be able clear it of thorns and debris.

Looking on the other side while running that race may lead you to your downfall.

3 years experience for 150k? Okay. Working for Nigerian companies as a person in tech will always be a sin IMO. Use them to gain reasonable experience and leave them cold.

The same role I saw on Glassdoor for 2k$ per M.

My childhood friend after graduation went into okada riding and latter went into keke. He latter bought another keke without selling the initial one.
My friend is now driving a taxi in one of the cities and my friend once told me that he won't ever leave his transportation business for a paying job of below 150k.
On the average, my friend do make about 100k after expenses every month plus the fact that he dictates his own time to work or to relax.

Someone once told me that" there's money in shit business" but unfortunately some people will rather prefer looking good and fresh while their pocket is high and dry. Keke napep pays, but starting out and thinking you will make it big in no time is deception

I can relate. I've experienced worse with this Gen Z people. You'll call a candidate who is looking for job and the candidate's phone will be on standby DND. One gave me an excuse that she doesn't like calls. She then went on to say that the recruiter is supposed to text her instead of calling. The one that rejected Salary of 80k because no staff bus and the location is Costain to Marina. Funnily enough, the candidate is not working but according to her, she's looking for a job. They want to earn big whilst doing nothing. Invite them for physical interview and they'll say "can't it be virtual?"
