Hmm tough choice, the hotel you work are you the a top manager there and is there signs that your salary may increase in the future As funny as it sounds, hotel jobs are quite secured because no matter what hotel services are always in demand from travellers, students, runs girls, G boys, politicians and thier envoys, artisans, boyfriends and girlfriends etc There is really no job security in the former. The hotel can go bankrupt. Anything can happen and it goes down. The owner may die, political hustlers may decide to bring it down and all sorts. So think about your career progression at the hotel first does it look like good one. Besides hotels just don’t go bankrupt like that overnight, although the bigger hotels tend to feel any recession harder than the small hotels although they tend to make more money than the small hotels too when things was good anyway covid change a lot of things |
Most QSR jobs are tedious and stressful. In Nigeria, they have association (AFCON) just like Private schools so if you leaving one QSR to another the pay difference is not much. Use Social media to check the reviews from previous staff. However, MC has 2 branches on the Island (Elf and Ikota) and two on the mainland (Agingbidi and 2nd rainbow). |

Toxic culture is the no.1 reason people quit jobs. It's 10x MORE IMPORTANT than pay in predicting employee turnover rates (source: Glassdoor) These 5 things won't fix the problem. - Offering promotions - Increasing salaries - Remote working - After-work beers - Gym memberships The way to fix bad culture is to have a good culture. It's about how you treat people. Not what's in their employee package. |

GloriousGbola:Most HR in such organizations are figure heads. |
DaCharis2016:Are you bemoaning the fact that you are yet to get a job as a recent graduate? You know you can change the narrative and instead apply for an internship role. It could be paid or unpaid. What do you have to lose? Beyond your pocket, know that some organizations are grappling with high operating expenses. If you can afford to make some sacrifices, why not try a symbiotic relationship where both partners gain. Let me share this story. Some years ago, I managed a team of 2 female HR personnel with about 60 core staff and over 100 auxiliary staff This may sound unbelievable, both became pregnant a month apart. Both came to me looking worried,“how were we going to manage the pre-natal, delivery and maternity phases”, without any HR personnel. We thought of temporary staff deployment for some people but felt “HR confidentiality” of information would be eroded by bringing someone outside the team even temporarily. The next strategy was to get an intern. We weighed the options, cost & implication. While still ruminating about this, one of them said a lady has been persistent about volunteering as an unpaid intern but she had always turned the lady back. I was taken aback,“really! how can! in this tough economy”(as if we are still not experiencing this) She has recently graduated from a UK university with a MSc. in HRM, and served in the HR unit of one large organization where she was exposed to some key HR functions I asked why she wanted to work for free and she told me rather than stay at home, she would use the opportunity to learn more and moreso, her brother still pays her an allowance. She started working with me directly when the two went on leave. She struggled initially but with patience and coaching, we moved along on her career journey. This was a position that was manned by two professionals with more working experiences than her and here was I, managing her among my other oversight functions aside overseeing the HR unit. At the end of the 6 months, was proud of her achievement and her learning experience. My work ethics and drive fueled her growth. Guess what, we ended up paying her full money from month one, made her position permanent and she stayed for a year. During her stay with us, she got an offer as an HR Officer, which i encouraged her to take. Some months later, she called me that her Team Lead had resigned and she was asked if she could step into that role or if they could get a replacement. Honestly, i told her to step into those shoes, that if she could work with me and had succeeded with so much challenges, the many insights and learning curves, her manning this new role shouldn’t be a problem and that she could reach out anytime, that i would always be there to carry her on my wings. She did this and in less then a year, dropped by at my place to show her official car. Growth is intentional! Growth is easier when you have someone walking alongside with you. Internship is a great way to break down doors |
