CrimeRe: Godwin Elewana To Die By Hanging For Killing Daughter’s Lover — Appeal Court by lawrsmith(m): 12:54pm On May 17, 2019
nairalaila:
The Appeal Court which sat in Calabar, Cross River State, upheld a High Court ruling of an Ex-NNPC worker who killed his daughter’s lover to die by hanging. Godwin Elewana who appealed against the ruling of the Calabar High Court, which sentenced him to death for allegedly shooting to death a 22-year-old student, Douglas Ojugbo, said to be the boyfriend of his daughter, had it turned down as the appeal court affirmed the decision of a High Court.

Justice Y. Ninpar, on behalf of three other judges of the Appeal Court, said, “The court, having gone through all the evidence and addresses by counsels for both parties, finds the judgement of the lower court credible and therefore valid before the law.”

Before the ex-NNPC worker who killed his daughter’s lover was told he was to die by hanging, the presiding judge of the High Court in Calabar, Justice Ukpa Ebitam, had said in his ruling that the prosecution team proved its case that the accused committed the crime.

InvestmentRe: Stay Off ‘loom Money Nigeria’, SEC Warns by lawrsmith(m): 9:26am On May 17, 2019
unclesuruoffi:
Nigerians have been warned to stay off Loom Money Nigeria by the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, who alleged that it is being ran by fraudsters. According to Mary Uduk, acting director-general of the commission, the scheme targeted young people, luring them to participate in a pyramid model of the Ponzi. In a news conference in which she was represented by Efe Ebelo, SEC’s head of media, she stated that Loom Money Nigeria had taken over the social media.

She further revealed that those behind the ponzi scheme “carry out their illegitimate activities” via social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, and they lure young Nigerians to invest as low as N1,000 and N13,000 and to get as much as eight times the value of the investment in 48 hours. The SEC who warned Nigerians to stay off Loom Money Nigeria which has no tangible business model, said;

“Unlike MMM that had a website and the promoter known, the people promoting Loom are not yet known and this pyramid scheme operates through closed groups mainly on Facebook and WhatsApp. If it were a local Ponzi scheme with known offices, it would be very easy for the Commission to seal their offices and freeze their accounts."

CrimeThe Best Friend Of The UNN Student Who Committed Suicide, Reveals What Made Him by lawrsmith(op): 3:52pm On May 16, 2019
The Best Friend of the UNN student Who Committed Suicide, Reveals What Made Him Commit Suicide, Must Read!

The Past few days have been a suicide vest in Nigeria, a lot of young Nigerians committed suicide. Many people have come out with diverse opinions as regards suicide, some spoke harshly at the people that committed suicide, while some were empathetic.

One Particular suicide struck a chord among Nigerians. The suicide of a Final year student of English Department, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Chukwuemeka Akachi. Different news outlets have different reasons why this young man committed suicide, some called him a 1st class Student.

Recall that Anaedoonline.com also kept her readers abreast of the unfortunate incident.

Mr. Ifeanyi Nwakpoke, a very close friend to Chukwuemeka has come out set the records straight in a later he posted on his Facebook page, in that letter, he gave chilling details of Chukwuemeka Akachi. According to Ifeanyi, Chukwuemeka Akachi never lacked family care and friends.

Mr. Ifeanyi wrote how Chukwuemeka had to pay his final year session school fees, so as to ease the stress of his parents paying for his school fees and his younger brother’s fees, his brother had just gained admission into the same school.

In The Letter, Mr. Ifeanyi gave insight into what might have greatly contributed to pushing Chukwuemeka into taking his own life, saying the books he read played a major role.

Below is the Letter ;

A personal note on Chukwuemeka Akachi’s suicide

By Ifeanyi Nwakpoke

Akachi and I have been close friends right since our second year in school here. (For those asking why he did it, you won’t find any revelation in this post either. Every personal story he shared with me that he didn’t mention in his writings either as metaphors or plain words, will remain personal, they are his stories strictly personal to him, and since he never felt like to share them, I won’t either, so continue your scavenging somewhere else).

Akachi was a human, he lived, he loved, he died.

On Monday morning of this week, around a few minutes past six, I was rushing to the Access Bank ATM when I met Akachi walking back towards the boys’ hostel where he stays. I wasn’t surprised seeing him knowing how much he loves taking walks both early mornings and evenings just to clear his head, many which we have walked together as friends and as writers that we were, (knowing how badly you can be mentally stressed/depressed after writing some kinds of stuff). So I wasn’t surprised, that has been him.
When I called him Akachi and said, “how far?”, he smiled and walked past me and stopped.

READ ALSO: IMSU STUDENT, AGOMUO JENNIFER, COMMITS SUICIDE

Again I wasn’t surprised that he didn’t shake my hand or gave me a hug as he usually does, because, for some months, Akachi has been avoiding me over things like the way I dress, why do I have to always go to church almost every evening, why should I disagree with him over an argument and all that.

When he stopped he said;
“Nwakpoke Ifeanyi Raphael (he usually calls my whole name), I’m going to die today,” he was smiling.
I shrugged and said, “fine”

Fine, because that’s how he talks for over three years that we’ve been close.
I shrugged because that’s the umpteenth time he has been saying he’s going to die, and in most cases I have walked with him so we could talk, and in many of the cases it’s usually because of existential questions, because of how a certain online magazine didn’t publish him, or because he’s tired of typing on his laptop, that he just wanted to stretch out, and he knows that such things like I’m going to die will make me walk with him so I can tell him stories that will make him feel better, or on some rare occasions it was over a girl, or an ex, or how someone told him to try swinging his hands that they’re hanging loose.

So I told him fine, fine, later Nau, I dey come.

Two hours later Lilian called me asking if I knew Akachi’s room number.
I said, “I can’t recall (my head wasn’t working fine then)”.
She said I should go check if he’s in his room. I went to his room, looked up RM 228 Alvan. He was not around, his roommate said he left early, Lilian called back.
I said, “I didn’t see him, was anything wrong? she said she will get back to me.”
Two minutes later, Samuel, our course rep called me asking me the same question, I asked him what was going on, he said Ernest called him and said that he heard that Akachi did something bad to himself. He hung up.

I went straight to our class WhatsApp group, scrolled the chats and saw someone asking for Akachi’s room number, that it’s urgent, that his phone line is off. I scrolled further and someone (Peace) said she heard that he’s at the school Medical center, that he’s fine now. My heart couldn’t believe it, I put on my shirt and ran out, looking for Shuttle, I called Veektor, called Samuel asking for Ernest’s phone number, it took me time to get a Shuttle that was going to that side.

When I got to the Medical center, I first saw Mary his friend, Neke, Otosiri Eze Obiyoung, and some familiar faces all looking worried. I went inside the emergency ward, and saw Akachi lying helpless on the bed, he was on Oxygen, the nurses were around him, injecting him. Akachi wasn’t moving, only his chest. They said they had found him inside the Tower; an isolated Monumental building behind UBA Hall of Fame. We have been there, both of us, on an adventure, we promised to go back there with a camera. He had outsmarted all of us, Akachi went to somewhere no one could have easily thought about and drank two bottles of snipers.

READ ALSO: MAN SETS HIMSELF ON FIRE AFTER WIFE LEFT HIM

He couldn’t survive it. For those asking questions why he did it, you read his posts, he said he was depressed, depression as an illness. I’ll choose to call it that too. As for those that have used his death to vomit their bias, to become emergency poets, philosophers, motivational speakers and the most caring far – off strangers and human activists, I don’t have a word for you all.

For those blaming the family, the friends, that they failed him, they didn’t care for him, he was rejected and alone and all that balderdash, well, I wonder how many people you know that you care for, to the extent of spending your entire hours rocking the person’s shoulders.

A silly fellow, perhaps too angry that he was unable to think through made a long post and entitled it “Nigeria and Her Bastard Parents”, talking down on Akachi’s parents that he knows nothing about. Akachi’s parents loved Akachi, catered for him, paid his fees, it was only this final year school fee that Akachi paid by himself because he wanted to because his younger brother got admission and he wanted to reduce the load on the parents.

Akachi had friends who loved him, who’s around him, cared for him, only that his problem of not believing in anything also made him believe that nobody really loved him, or cared or understood him. He said he feels estranged, I told him I didn’t know how to solve that problem if he’s not seeing us his friends.

READ ALSO: Did You Know That, To Have Sex In The Public Was Once An Alternative To Execution For Condemned Male Criminals In Nnewi ?

Akachi read books, not more than everybody but he took every text and thing to heart, as a true reader does, but the mistake he made was that he swallowed all the junk he saw, all the dark thoughts and unpalatable knowledge from writers who funny enough historically, many of them committed suicide. He couldn’t sieve what to take in and what to throw out, he swallowed all, and all these accumulated with his personal issues, childhood experiences, rejections, failures, beliefs, and self-estrangement, all these gathered up.

Akachi doesn’t have academic issues, no carry-overs, and yet he’s not a first-class student by grade as some newscasters have carried it, stop hyping the dead. Akachi is intelligent, smart and passes his courses, and writes his dark poems which he started writing in the second semester of our second year, he previously focused on love poems before we did Gothic Literature in the second year and he changed.

So for those looking for what to say that made him commit suicide, life did. Life killed him. Experiences and questions whose answers he didn’t believe pushed him.

He didn’t drown. Akachi didn’t drown, he was the water. Overwhelmed. By waves of emotions. Source: https://www.anaedoonline.com/2019/05/16/a-personal-note-On-chukwuemeka-Akachis-suicide/

PoliticsRe: Army Graduates 152 Repented Boko Haram In Gombe State by lawrsmith(m): 10:21am On Apr 04, 2019
miteolu:
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday graduated 152 ex-insurgents undergoing 12 months de-radicalisation training in Gombe State, Native Reporters learnt.

Martins said the programme was a clear attestation to the Federal Government’s action against using combat in depleting the manpower of Boko Haram.

He said the programme would enhance the acceptance of the clients in the society having been subjected to several vocational pieces of training that would make them more useful and self-reliant.

“The Federal Government is using this programme to cut the abilities of the sect to recruit more members and also ensure defection into the programme by other insurgents.

“By the time this is achieved, the government will be able to reduce the numbers of free hands the sect recruits to fight it.

“Based on the assessment, the programme has done a lot in reforming the fighters against the government.

“The programme has achieved more compared to other similar programmes in Somalia and Saudi Arabia, where de-radicalization programmes are being implemented. There are no records of de-radicalized members going back to the sect,” he said.

Martins said the government was employing other non-combat approaches to fight the insurgents.

The programme coordinator said with sustained efforts and partnership with international organizations, the end of Boko Haram was in sight.

Mr. Abba Umar, a member of Bama Community, commended the federal government and the Army for the love shown to their brothers.

“We are happy that the federal government is doing this. If not that we are here, it will be difficult to believe what we have seen. We are satisfied with everything here.

“We thank the government for the rehabilitation and vocational training that will make them breadwinners after leaving the camp.”

Mr. Zanna Yakubu, who spoke on behalf of Bama Community, commended the federal government for equipping the ex-insurgents with the skills to be self-reliant.

Yakubu said the training would help in debunking criticisms in the foreign media on government’s efforts to end the insurgency in the country.

Mohammed Modu, a graduate of the programme, lauded the government’s efforts in rehabilitating the ex-insurgents.

He said he was going back to the society as a repentant Boko Haram member, adding that he would tell people how good the government had been to them while in camp.

Modu said one of the problems of the insurgency was that many youths do not trust the government, adding that this had made it easy for the sect to lure them into its den.

He stressed that with the love demonstrated by the government during the training, no one would be able to deceive him again.

Chinnyrita27:
Good day nairalanders. I created this account to seek for advice as I am confused and crying as I type this. I have been happily married for 4 years with a daughter of 3 and my husband. Not about a week ago, I had issues with one of his friend in his absence in our home. He had this close friend who came visiting on a faithful evening last Monday(I was not strong enough to go to work),he came when my husband wasn't around so I had to leave whatever I was doing to keep him company while we wait for my husband, at some point I offered to get him food, he obliged and ate, it was not upto 30 minutes after eating, he asked me to go buy him card. Politely, I told him I can't as was so tired and weak to walk about 10 minutes under the sun, i suggested to recharge free for him from my bank, he insisted, frowned his face and asked if I was trying to tell him that he can't recharge from his account, I was shocked, he stood up angry and aggressively and drove out of the compound. I didn't utter a word, I was angry but kept calm.

Not until my husband came back, and when I was about to welcome him but, he angrily yield and screamed at me and asked why I had to insult his friend and call him poor. I angrily asked him why he believed his friend without trying to confirm the from me, we deeply quarrelled and he made statement threatening to end the marriage if I cannot respect his friends and his people. I have never disrespected him or any of his friends and family members before, I'm so confused, we have not be conversing and relating well since Monday. I tried to make peace with him as I wasn't comfortable keeping malice with him but he said I will have to apologise to his friend which is something I don't think I can do.

I am so confused, what should I do?

lilmaydee:
I am 29 years old but if you see me, you wouldn't believe me, because I look like a 13 year old boy.

People naturally disrespect me because of this. There was a time I and my nephew were living together, he is well built and as such dates ladies older than he is.

So one day, a lady came to visit him, she met me at home and asked of him which I told her he wasn't around. Then she called him on the phone. But what pained me most was that she said " hello baby, I'm in your place now but I met one small boy who said you weren't around. My nephew had to call me back to apologized and also told her that that's his uncle oo, but the silly Lady just said how come he looks so small.

I can't approach mature ladies, for fear of being embarrassed. All these small girls, that I decided to ask out, after one week will begin to disrespect and cheat on me. Even employers do exploit me. I remember, one employer like that that said what does a small boy like me wants to do with money, just because I told her I can't accept the amount she offered to pay me.

Please how can I put on more weight and look more mature, that is, look my age, because people don't respect me a bit.

Kano election has been one of the most controversial since the beginning of 2019 elections and till this moment, the election process in the state seems to be filled with all sort of irregularities and alleged manipulations by the two major parties in the country.

As reported by Sahara reporters, a man identified as Nasir Mansur Mohammed who is one of the voters in Kano during the elections rerun was violently attacked by hoodlums carrying weapons when he went to exercise his constitutional franchise at Santulma Primary School Polling unit Gama Ward.

Nasir said he was saved by "good samaritans" who took him to the hospital where he spent three hours in admission, snitched and discharged.

In his words: "Alhamdulillah. I survived. I was violently attacked by thugs at Santulma Primary School polling unit at Gama Ward in Kano today Saturday."

happney65:
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the Peoples Democratic Party has yet to explain the “irresponsible expenditure” that took place between 1999 and 2014.

He said the main opposition party still has questions to answer on how it spent the oil money that accrued to the country within that period.

He spoke in Abuja when he received the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress on a visit to congratulate him on his re-election. Let the blame game continue. APC have you blame PDP today? No; oya let's blame

The NLC was led by the National President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba.

“PDP has not successfully explained to the country what they did with the money,” he told the NLC leadership; adding, “There were no roads, no rail, no power. They said they spent $16bn on power, but where is the power?

“The irresponsible expenditure of that period has not been explained, and Nigerians deserve an answer on that terrible mismanagement of the country.”
