I agree with you djfrancis. Where and How you met are two different questions. If asked "How", it means the consular officer request a brief description of how you too met....for example, "we met in school when I was doing my masters program in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was in the same class with me" OR "we met via my cousin based in the States who is a friend to my fiance, my cousin introduced me to her and we started off a relationship" OR "we met via a dating site called www.whatever.com and we started talking afterwhich we decided to see each other in person....." If asked "Where", the consular officer wants to know the location where you guys first met. For example, "we met in Lagos Nigeria and spent time together for 2 weeks" OR "we first met in Florida, Texas and then later met in Dubai", etc. So in summary, How requires description while Where is more straight to the point and requires you to provide a location. |
select500:No they won't ask for any birth certificate. They will only ask for the envelope which will be given to the person after the interview at the embassy. The Birth certificate is needed for the processing of adjustment of status. |
select500:If I might ask, isn't the birth certificate from the local government issued in conjunction with NPC? I am just asking because I know NPC has offices in all Local Government. Maybe the Birth Certificate from Local Government might suffice after all. But getting birth certificate from NPC is not that difficult. Just that you might have to part with some money. I recommend you go yourself to NPC main office in Surulere. They will request for your passport, affidavit. Affidavit can be done by them for a fee. To do the affidavit, they can request for your parents passport and signature (affidavit from parent) or can request for just yours (self affidavit). If you were born before 1992, they usually issue attestation of birth and not the actual birth certificate. But those after 1992 don't have problem. I was told NPC can issue birth certificate for those before 1992 if you discuss with them. Submitting only attestation of birth to USCIS is not advisable. The fee you pay to NPC is usually in the range of 8,000 or more. No receipt is issued......which is very sad and unfortunate. |
sisiorente:Please stop typing in caps lock. It's very disrespectful and even against the forum rules (Rule 11). To your question, there's no problem if your birth certificate has only two names. My original birth certificate also has just two names. However I advice you also get a birth certificate from the Nigerian Population Commission (NPC). I hear that document is useful especially when you are in States. |
sisiorente:Oh OK. I thought you were sure you made a mistake. So now that we know that there was no mistake, case resolved. Yes anxiety could be a factor. Just take a deep breath. It helps. |
sisiorente:You will have to fill a new DS-160 form. However I'll recommend you wait till you get an email from the embassy before you can proceed. You may need to send a mail to the embassy requesting for update. Also if you've not gotten a mail from NVC, you'll need to call them to give them your email address so they can inform you via mail that your casefile has been sent to the embassy. |
sisiorente:They'll send it through email. I recommend you send them an email. In the email, you are to send your details such as passport number, case number, date of birth, full names. The details should be for both you and your fiancee. Also did you or your fiancee get any mail from NVC? if you didn't, I recommend the American citizen among the two of you call them to send them your email address for future correspondences. |
Nextlevel2222, thanks for the interview transcript. Wow you were really grilled. But one thing I know for sure about this K1 VIsa is that it's almost certain you'll get the visa as long as you are not lying and as long as the love is real. |
saintrise:lol The devil is a big liar O. Will be leaving very soon though. |
nextlevel2222:Congrats! I'm so so happy for you. My regards to your man. |
nayee:I recommend you use that of NPC. This is because I was told it's that of NPC that is required when you seek adjustment of status on entering the States. But both is fine as far as the visa interview is concerned. |
A3AP10:I think they require the original and not a print out. This is because they retain the original after the interview. I think it's among the things they send to the immigration guys at the US port of entry. So my advice is that you try to get the originals before the interview. But if you can't, you can still go ahead with the interview. They'll approve your visa but put you on admin processing pending when you finally get an original police certificate and submit at a later date. |
abekeade1:The DS-160 confirmation number is the number that shows under the barcode on the left side of your print out. The UID is the one on the right. It should be there. But if it isn't, then send a mail to ustraveldocs to resolve this. |
Worriedgurl:As long as the Passport is not more than 6 months old. But I'll recommend you take new Passport Photo. |
Baahubali:I had the same issue. They'll address this issue asap. |
saintrise:Yes you can come in with first flight, do your medicals and then return with the last flight (you should be through around 3pm). However, I'm told there's also an approved medical centre in Abuja. Why don't you use that? |
abekeade1:I recommend you ask this question in the US Visit Visa Thread, hopefully you'll get a good response there. |
@Beautyaddy and @Angela777 Thanks for your posts. I've certainly learnt a lot from you guys. |
abekeade1:Don't worry about that. I filled that I'll be traveling around December last year on my DS-160 but my interview was in January! So no cause for alarm. Just pick the earliest available date. Secondly, from the email forwarded to me it was stated that ("You must attempt to secure an interview date that falls before the expiration of your approved Form I-129F petition, since the validity of your approved petition may not be extended.)Go ahead and pick the earliest available date even if it's after the expiration date. No cause for alarm. Your expiration date will be automatically extended. So are appointment dates now available? If they are, GO AHEAD AND BOOK NOW BEFORE IT BECOMES FULLY BOOKED. it gets filled up pretty quickly. |
Parkerlli:I dunno. Your application will be adjudicated based on its merit. |
Nazonaje:You've already proceeded na. You have filled the DS-160 form, made payments and have even created your ustraveldoc profile. So you have proceeded already . Or am I wrong? If you have proceeded already, no problem. Just keep on checking your profile until dates become available. When it does, go ahead and book an appointment before going for your medicals. Please make sure you book your interview appointment before going for medicala. If you haven't proceeded, no problem. Wait until you get an email from the embaasy then you can go ahead and submit your DS-160 form, make payments and upload your ustraveldoc profile. Keep checking for available dates so you can schedule your appointment interview on time. |
abekeade1:Administrative Parole allows one to travel out of the States while waiting for his or her green card. When you get your K1 Visa and enter the United States, you are not supposed to leave the States until you've gotten your green card. However if you have an emergency and need to travel, you can do so with Admin Parole. P.S.: I had replied your Private Message in the past. Just check your gmail (the gmail you used to register on Nairaland), you'll see my response there. |
@kunlelikeme, You are right concerning the green card. You'll get the green card faster with Spousal Visa. In fact you will get your green card not long after you enter the States. For the Fiancee visa, you could wait up to 6 months. However you can get your work permit while waiting for your green card if you entered the States with Fiance visa. You can also apply for Administrative Parole while waiting for your green card. It takes around 2 months to get your work permit/admin parole combo card while waiting for your green card. Also the Fiancee (K1) Visa route is more expensive, I'm told, compared to the Spousal Visa. Also the petitioner for K1 must be a United States citizen (USC). However, the K1 visa enables you to be with your woman/man as soon as possible. You can permanently be with your better half within 6 to 8 months of your application while it could take up to a year for Spousal visa. So each have it's pros and cons. The choice is up to you. This thread is for those who have made their choice and chose K1 . |
Parkerlli:K3 is no longer considered for Nigeria, I'm told. Don't know about other countries though. When K3 was still considered, it's usually faster than K1. K3 is a combination of Spousal Visa (IR1/CR1) and Fiance Visa (K1). So what happens is that a married couple (USC and Alien) commences the IR1/CR1 visa process but decide not to wait for the visa. They therefore go ahead and apply for K1 visa while the IR1/CR1 visa is still on. So if the K1 visa is approved before the IR1/CR1 visa, the Alien travels to the States to be with his or her USC wife/husband pending when the IR1/CR1 visa will be granted. At that point when the IR1/CR1 is granted, the Alien gets his or her green card. The essence of the K3 visa was to shorten the waiting time for the couple to be together. But like I said, it's no longer applicable in Nigeria. |
abekeade1:I honestly don't know what that priority date means. I had thought its only applicable for family visas and spousal visas. Concerning scheduling, I think you are having that issue because no date has popped up yet. If it has, you will see something on the lower left section of your profile page saying: "First Available Appointment is..." See the attachment below.
|
saintrise:So reply that mail and tell me what you want to tell me. |
saintrise:Check the email you used to register in nairaland. Is it yahoo.co.uk? |
saintrise:I saw your Private Message and I replied it. |
abekeade1:Did you just create the profile or had used it in the past? Regarding the receipt number, I think it should be. Did the number of digits tally? |
Concerning the Letter of Intent to Marry, we (myself and my fiancee) wrote the letter and signed together. We however did not scan but used wet signatures. So what I did was to print out the letter and signed after which I mailed it via DHL to my fiancee who signs and then attaches it along with other relevant documents (i-129F, etc) to USCIS. We had no RFEs. This is a more expensive procedure and a bit of time wasting (took 2 to 3 days for the letter to get to my fiance) but we didn't want to take chances with the scanning thing. But I'm told scanning of wet signatures is now being allowed. It wasn't allowed in the past though. That's why we didn't want to take chances as some consular officer who didn't get the memo can decide to ask for wet signature in the RFE. That will be time wasting as the application process will be stalled pending when the RFE has been responded to. |
djfrancis:@abekeade1 In addition, I recommend you book your medicals such that it's at least 3 weeks to the interview date. To play safe, I did mine 6 weeks to the interview date. It normally takes 2 weeks for the medicals to be out, so 3 weeks should be enough. Concerning scheduling an appointment date, you'll need to create a profile with ustraveldocs. It's in the same profile where you will type in your gtbank receipt number, your DS-160 form number and your passport number. You will then schedule an interview date. Usually there's a wait before available dates pop up for you to choose. Hopefully you won't have to wait for long like me (I waited for 2 months before available dates came up). As regards the February 18 expiration, it's no problem as long as you can schedule an interview before that date. Note that there's no cause for concern if the available dates is after February 18 as long as you did the scheduling before February 18. I hope you understand what I just wrote up there (cos it could be confusing). Lemme use an example, if interview dates pops up today, the 1st of February and all the dates available are February 19, 20, 21 and 22. There's no problem if you choose February 19 because you scheduled your appointment today, February 1, which is before the expiry date. So the watch word is that you must do the scheduling before the petition expiration date. However if no available dates come up between now and February 18, then you'll need to send them a mail (probably a week before) requesting an extension of the petition as no dates are even available for you to choose from. Some would say the embassy would automatically extend the expiration date since they are aware that you can't even schedule but I advice you don't take chances and mail them if it comes to that. You can also go get your Police Clearance Certificate. That could be gotten same day and has a validity of 1 year from date of issue. The Certificate actually states that it's valid only for 3 months but you can disregard it since its still valid for 1 year in the eyes of the embassy and POE guys. Wish you and the kids the very best. |
