I noticed that the DHL Pickup Centre in Victoria Island is the only pickup centre provided on the white form given me. I had chosen Isolo as my desired pickup centre as its closer to me. But I'm made to understand that Isolo is not applicable for Immigrant Visa. So I'll have to "travel" once again to the Island to get my passport. I had traveled there for my medicals and also traveled there for my interview. It's well ![]() |
Thanks Guys. I'll still be active on this thread and will always share my experience so others can learn something. I'm still learning myself as the journey continues. |
Guys, I was approved!!! I'm so grateful to God for his mercies and blessings. The interview in itself was very brief. None of my documents or pictures was checked during the interview proper. Was just asked questions on dates. Questions like.....when did we started talking, when did we see each other in person, when did I propose. It was a smooth sail compared to the way others were grilled. There were over 40 of us, but only 2 (that I'm aware of) were outrightly denied. Several were placed on administrative processing (visa wasn't denied though). They were given back their passport and requested to provide additional information before their visa can be issued. However many were approved at the spot and their passport retained for visa stamping. Even though my interview time was short, I was there from 5am till 12noon. This is despite the fact that my appointment time read 6am My advice to those going for the interview, just be yourself. You have nothing to fear as long as your relationship is genuine. Your fiance/petitioner, who is an American citizen, has every right to love and get married to anyone of his or her choice, whether a fellow citizen or an alien. So relax, your fiancee chose you, so you will get the visa. Just get all your documents and commit everything to God. |
@worriedgurl and @nextlevel2222 That's true. Wet signature on the Intent to Marry Letter is no longer a compulsory requirement. However I will still recommend people use wet signature. This is because some Consular Officers could insist for such and it'll be time wasting to start explaining to him or her that it's not required. |
anjiee:The Local Government guys give it. They will also require you do an affidavit. I meant chat records of wedding plans. At the latter, we do have chat records but not a day-day thingy. We practically talk daily via phone calls but chat once or twice a month.Chat records mustn't be a day-day thingy. Just some form of evidence that you guys are in communication. What do you mean by picture can suffice?I meant pictures that will demonstrate your willingness to marry him within 90 days of entry into the States. Your Engagement Pictures and others can help. Lastly can my father be a witness to signature?#PlsCheckDUploadedImageNo need for your Dad's signature. You are not married yet. But I don't think there's anything wrong if you want your Dad's signature there. |
anjiee:No, it's only saying you are eligible to marry in your country. That implies you are single. But you can change it and write that you are single. You may wish to attach an affidavit and/or singlehood certificate as evidence. You mean you don't have chat records of your wedding plans or that you don't have chat records at all? If the former, no problem. Pictures can suffice. If the later, the consular officer might find it difficult to believe. In this age of whatsapp, facebook, instagram, twitter and other social media platforms, there should certainly be some form of chat records. The chat record is not a compulsory requirement to demonstrate intent to marry but it's a necessary document to assist with the overall application. You and your fiancee can also change other content of the letter, but the structure is good. Traditional Marriage is recognized as wedding. So if you guys have done traditional wedding, I recommend you guys go for Spousal Visa and not Fiancee Visa. But if you guys haven't done traditional wedding or bride price haven't been paid, they you may wish to go the Fiancee Visa route. If you guys did Introduction, I recommend you remain silent on that as some Consular Officers confuse it for a form of wedding. Engagement is required for Fiancee Visa. When I say engagement, I mean the type where the guy knees and ask the four letter words . I don't mean the engagement in the traditional sense . Goodluck. |
anjiee:It means you will have to write the letter with both your name and your fiancee. Then you sign your part and mail it (via DHL or FedEx or USP or any other reputable international mail delivery company) to your fiance to sign his part before he mails it to USCIS. They are against electronic signature and are also against you signing and scanning to them. It has to be signed with a pen and mailed to them. |
saintrise:Qlife is not a walking distance from the embassy. So it's not possible to get a hotel that's walking distance to both venues. But you can get hotels in between the two venues. However I recommend you get a hotel close to the embassy especially if your time is 6:00am and you are with family. |
Vylish:Two years? Did you guys get NOA1 and 2? |
lasthero:Yes. It can be scanned and sent via email or sent via courier. I prefer the former. |
Angela777:Well said. For those who are IT savvy, this step is very useful. For those who aren't, ermmmm, the photographers are there for you . |
abekeade1:Yes. Your fiancee has to fill the form i-134. You can download the form via this link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html#ExternalPopup |
nextlevel2222:Can we do PM instead? Will send you a private message. |
abekeade1:The basic documents are: Appointment Confirmation Print Out, DS-160 Confirmation Page, GTBank Receipt, International Passport, Two Passport Photograph, Birth Certificate, Police Certificate, Medical Certificate, Affidavit of Support (Fiance), Bank Statement (Fiance), Tax Return (Fiance), Pay Slips (Fiance) and Employment Letter (Fiance). Any other documents are for you to support your case. Remember that photos of you and your fiancee should be with you incase the consular officer requests to see them. Photos of you guys and your son may be needed as well. Concerning your second question, I advise you go to a good photographer. |
Baahubali:support@ustraveldocs.com |
abekeade1:Just fill it as it is. It all depends on the question. If they ask you to state how many children you have then you do so. But if they ask which children are seeking the K2 Visa then you provide those who are seeking K2. If you are still confused, you can send us a screenshot so we can assist the much we can. |
nextlevel2222:The Local Government guys give. Also the Ikoyi Marriage Registry gives as well. That of Ikoyi is more expensive. Both are valid although they have their pros and cons. |
Vinnyy:I don't think it has for now. |
nextlevel2222:The USCIS don't grant visa, they only approve that the application should be sent to the embassy for consideration. The Embassy has the final say on granting the Visa and not USCIS. That been said, just relax. There's no cause to panic. Since you had submitted the introduction pictures to the USCIS guys, it means the Embassy guys will see it too. My advice is that you get documentation ready to show you guys are not yet married (get your intent to marry letter which should say you guys are still single and intend to get married after securing the K1 Visa, also get a bacherlood or spinster certificate and affidavit, if possible) should the Consular Officer decide to probe you on this. But if the Consular Officer is silent on it, then be silent on it too. You can go with th introduction pictures but don't present it unless requested to do so. And be ready to defend it. Some Consular Officers tend to give trouble with Introduction Ceremonies. But the fact remains that Introduction is not marriage. This is because no bride price was paid and no traditional wedding was done. So don't worry. As long as you guys love each other, you guys will overcome. |
Baahubali:Yes, they changed it for me after I had completed the appointment booking. They didn't change my appointment date. I don't think they sent me an appointment confirmation, but you can always print a new appointment confirmation by yourself. There's even a place on your ustraveldoc profile where you can send your confirmation to your email. |
Baahubali:You already have a case number. If you don't know it, ask your fiancee who is a US citizen to call the NVC guys to get it. However, one can make payments even if one hasn't gotten a case number as long as he doesn't submit the DS-160 form. |
Baahubali:Yeah. I did that too. But I noticed that the D160 form number on my profile when I did that was the one I used for my Visit Visa Application and I couldn't change it on my own. Had to mail the traveldocs guys to change it for me. |
abekeade1:$265. That should be N95400 or a bit more. |
nextlevel2222:Not advisable. I've read of cases were the application was denied because of this. Although the denial/non-approval could be appealed but that's another long process. |
abekeade1:You can fill the DS-160 form now but don't submit yet. Also you can go to gtbank and pay for the K1 Visa and hold on to the receipt. You can also create a profile at ustraveldocs.com/ng. Make sure you use a valid email address. Once the Embassy confirms receipt of your casefile, you can then quickly submit your form and then fill in your receipt number and other K1application details on your ustraveldoc profile. The next step is to schedule an appointment. If you can't, no cause for alarm. Just keep checking your profile page until dates pop up. PS: Just as nextlevel2222 adviced, you guys should email the embassy requesting to confirm if they've received your casefile. It takes 5 to 6 days for them to respond. If you guys don't email them, you might not know on time when you can proceed. |
vikmeek:Unfortunately there's no Spouse Thread on Nairaland. Perhaps you could create one just like the way I did for Fiance Visa Thread. |
nextlevel2222:Perfect ![]() |
nextlevel2222:Sure. As long as you don't look irresponsible in your dressing. |
@djfrancis please I will like to know the time you scheduled for your interview. Was it 7am? Also how long did it take for you to be done with the whole interview process? An hour? Two hours? When did you finish? 9am? 10am? Or did it take the whole day? |
@nextlevel2222, I think you can come along with a photocopy of each of your major documents. However djfrancis will clarify. Regarding the change in DS-160 form, I don't think you need to write them. However you may wish to go with both. The recent DS-160 is the one that's valid anyway. |
nextlevel2222:Well, I wouldn't be surprised even though they weren't harsh to me, the signs were there. But the nurses, doctors and other health professionals were nice. Overall, I think it's a good place to go for medicals. |
Drenimarcus:Ok that's good to know. However I just hope this shutdown is resolved fast O. I don't want to hear any story O. |
