Thanks so much sharpman1. I have a question though. I created a profile with traveldocs when applying for my B1/B2 Visit Visa. Should I use the same profile and email address for my K1 Visa Application? |
omobabaonimalu:This thread is for Fiancee Visa application which does not apply in your case. What you should be applying for is Spousal Visa. As regards the questions asked during spousal visa application, it's the same kind of question they ask the fiancee visa applicant. These are questions that seek to ascertain if you truly love each other. For example, questions like your wife's date of birth, her place of work, her joint statement of account, her parents name, the list is endless. They can also ask questions on your marriage. Goodluck. |
zada:My dear it varies. It could be as short as 6 months and as long as a year on the average. However I know fiancee visa takes a shorter time compared to Spousal Visa. |
zada:Yes, he or she will need to provide that. But I think it's not a problem if the account has little money in it. This is because the financial records of the US citizen would suffice as a proof that the Nigerian fiancee will not be a public charge when he or she migrates. So I advice the Nigerian fiancee not to bother transferring bulk sums into his or her account. If anything, it will count against him or her as it suggests misrepresentation. He or she should just present his or her account the way it is. For medicals, it's done after an interview date has been scheduled. |
slimturay:True you would need to meet in person and take pictures to prove your relationship. However it is not a must that your fiancee comes to Nigeria. You guys can meet any other place. It can be Dubai, UK, France, India, etc. It is not compulsory you guys meet in Nigeria or the US. The most important thing is that there must be a meeting. It can be in Sambisa forest, Lagos, Sokoto, Ghana, America, Asia, Africa, etc. The place is irrelevant . |
slimturay:Yes you can go ahead with the K1 Visa. I'm guessing those Visas were non-immigrant visas. You were probably denied the US visa's because you couldn't prove non-immigrant intent. But in K1 Visa, all you need to prove is that you truly love your fiancee and that you will both get married within 90 days on entry into the States. Also they need prove that your fiancee can take care of you financially in the States till you find your feet. I prefer you ask your questions here as that was why this thread was created. You can edit out anything that's personal. |
Oh one more thing, only a US citizen can fill a petition for K1 Visa. A permanent resident can't. But a permanent resident can file for Spouse Visa. A US citizen can also file Spouse visa. |
Let me start by listing out some observable differences between the K1 Visa and other immigrant visas. First off, the US citizen files the petition via the form I-129F. Other types of Immigrant visa application involves filling the petition via other form types. Another noticeable difference is the cost. It's relatively more expensive following the K1 Visa route. Thirdly, there is a short wait time of the K1 Visa at the NVC. The USCIS sends the approved petition to the NVC who forwards it immediately to the US Embassy. However for other immigrant application, there is a delay at the NVC. This is because there are some forms and payments that needs to be made before NVC can forward the casefile to the embassy and schedule an interview date. I'm told there are six steps required. The full details can be gotten from their website. Another difference is that you get to fill the DS-160 form as a K1 applicant unlike the other visas where you fill the DS-260. This is interesting as the DS-160 form is for non-immigrant so I wonder why it is the form to be filled by K1 Visa applicants. These are the ones I can remember for now. Will post others when I remember them. |
Hi guys, I am a K1 Visa applicant. I had to create this thread because I couldn't find a thread that's specially dedicated to Fiancee (K1) Visa Application. My motivation for the creation of this thread is the USA Visit Visa Thread which have been really helpful to lots of nairalanders and guests (shout out to LadyGuinivere and Co). K1 Visa is unique because it has both non-immigrant and immigrant features hence the need to have a dedicated thread where issues can be thrashed out. My hope is that both successful, delayed and intending K1 Visa applicants will be active on this thread so we can all learn from each other. Also I hope we can get the Visa Officers to offer their professional comments once in a while. So I'll provide a brief guide on how to proceed with the K1 Visa application. Please correct me in the places where I'm wrong so I can effect the changes. The first step in the visa application is the filling of a petition using the form I-129F by your US citizen fiancee whom you must have met in person. The filled form is submitted to USCIS at their US address. If the petition is approved, it is sent to the NVC who in turn sends it to the US Embassy here in Lagos. Once the US Embassy receives your casefile, you can now proceed with the second step which is to fill the DS-160 form and schedule an Interview. After the interview, you will be issued a K1 Visa if you were successful which allows you entry into the States. You must marry your fiancee within 90 days of entry. Details of the process involved can be found here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html I recommend we all read the info on the link before asking specific questions on this thread. There also exists an official thread created by a US Embassy Visa Officer for Immigration related questions. You may want to check it out .Oya let the discussions begin ![]() Honorable Mentions |
speakout2015:I doubt. No South Korean airline flies directly to Nigeria. Your best bet is a one stopover with Ethiopian Airline, Emirates, Ethihad or Qatar Airways. Other airlines will even make 2 or more stopovers! |
YoungDaddyB:There's Turkish Airline ₦343,873 per person. Your destination will be Tel Aviv with a stopover at Istanbul. No need for transit visa. There's also Egypt Air. But it's a much longer flight. Stopover is at Cairo and I don't know if you'll need transit visa. The cost is ₦311,287. The difference for 3 persons isn't much. For Turkish, it's ₦1,011,592 while for Egypt Air it's ₦951,779. Do the maths ![]() |
OmoBendel24:Modified my post before your reply. |
OmoBendel24: nattybanta:One is not granted a length of stay beyond the validity period stated on the Passport Data Page. However one can be granted a length of stay beyond the Visa Validity. People tend to confuse the two. This is what is applicable for the two year visit visa granted to Nigerians. It might be slightly different with other countries. cc: Otubio, Belloay Modified |
TheCongo2:He didn't use any agent. |
Pesuzok:No, this was his very first. |
A friend of mine just told me he got denied. It puzzles me as this guy had travelled to a Schengen State before. He's married with a son and is working in a government organisation (for over 6 years and counting). He was to go to the States for a training that has already been sponsored. |
SexyDuby:I don't think it's an issue. As long as all the names are the same. Your Visa will bear the name arrangement as it appears on your datapage. seyewest:Oh thanks. I will. |
seyewest:I will be traveling to the States next month, dallas to be precise, and I chose Emirates this time. Used Qatar in my last flight. Seeing you guys posts concerning Emirates make me happy as it means I made the right choice ![]() I only have 2 hrs layover in Dubai on my way to the States but I have over 20 hours layover on my way back! I didn't use the hotel services during my Qatar flight but I must use it this time o. I need to see the popular Dubai for myself ![]() |
Solitin40:Hi Solitin It's been a while! Have you embarked on the trip? If you did pls tell us how did it go especially concerning how you transited in between flights. |
Nice one OP. I can see your awareness campaign is gaining momentum. |
Solitin40:Hows it going bro? |
purpose100:Paying the conference fee doesn't justify ties. So think twice. Are you ready to forfeit 15% of the fee? If you can then apply. |
steph0627:Read the beginning of this thread. You'll see how to proceed. |
Usmleapp1:Should you still fill that you have an uncle this time around? Yes |
NeyofeedNigEnt:Turkish Airline - ₦376,343 Air France - ₦440,873 KLM Airline - ₦441,125 Each of them has one stop in between flights (Istanbul, Paris and Amsterdam respectively) . All are return tickets. |
Solitin40:Oh OK. This was the ticket your friend used right? Your friend who didn't use transit visa despite transiting through Singapore right? Kagari needs to see this. cc: Kagari |
kagari:Same to you bro. Happy New Year. So are you saying Transit Visa is needed for someone on Singapore Airline transiting through Singapore to Sydney, Australia? Yes or No would suffice. I won't take you up on the matter regardless of your response. Just need you to go on the record for the sake of clarity. cc: Solitin40 |
