Business / Re: My Experience After Serving My Oga For 7years Including My Gain And Loss by Lifebender(m): 11:25am On Feb 19
weblord1900:
So 7+years ago I made this post seeking advice on a journey I was to embark on.
.
First of all pardon my English,
I'm here again to share my experience over the years of my apprenticeship and also the process. I know it's not all part of this country practice this system. It's more prevellent in the east.
For me there has been up and down and mostly down. This is something you can never understand until you personally experience it.. It will reshape your entire life especially your mind whether you like it or not.

I left my village by June to meet my Oga in the city. I spent 6months as testing. Like the first 6months were not counted as part of the agreement. I was even lucky because some spend 1year as testing. So I started in 2017 after agreement. This type of agreement just involve your oga coming to meet your parents with few eyewitnesses.. No lawyer or paper to sign. Just verbal agreement ,No fixed price .. They'll only discuss on how long you will work for him or her( the oga or madam).

When I started my Oga is still single so I was doing most of the works in the house including cooking .. We were living very happy .. I was eating very well .if you look at me then the evidence is there 😀 Sometimes my oga will come back with full fried chicken oh oh.. Only me and him .. Things where just smooth ..
Fast forward to 2019 my oga decided to my settle down.. I think I use like 4years senior my oga wife. At the first few months his wife was very angelic, calm and gentle. She serve us tea every morning..
Omo how she take change I don't know 🙆🏾‍♂️ I no offend anybody .. I'm very calm in nature .. My oga follow change too. Nobody day send me again ..

During 2020 covid 19 my eyes saw my ears .. I know things was hard then but mine was hard pro max. From 2018 I started suffering from chronic tonsillitis. I was taking drugs up and down including self medication .. I started noticing change from the way I speak because I don't know if it's the drug or the sickness that's affecting me .. I had no one to tell. By 2021 I gathered courage and told my oga 😪.. He carry me go meet aboki people make he carry scissors chop the two damaged tonsils in my throat .. Them just day price am 3k 5k I day one side day shed tears 😭 . I called someone and told him about everything. He told my oga to take me to a good hospital. The story long sha but at the end I went under tonsillectomy surgery .. I'm now fine

By 2023 which is supposed to be my last year my oga carry another problem come.. The way he was treating me caused problems between some of his brother and sister including some of his friends because they don't like the way he was treating me. They were all encouraging and giving me advice to persevere because I'm almost through its just a temptation.
I was settled this February with wetin my mouth not fit talk after serving for 7year chai😭 🤦. You can't even rent a shop with here with the amount I received. I haven't talked about buying the goods in this period every price has sky rocketed. I thank my family and friends it's all good.

Life is a journey ..I still have more opportunities ahead of me. I have seen more than 20 other people that have come to serve but didn't finish. Most of them doesn't last for 2years but I persist because I'm determined for success. With this energy nothing can stop me.

Let me tell you some key points in this system.
1. They don't tell you how much you'll receive at the end. Just be ready to take what you see.
2. It will greatly affect your mental health positively or negatively depending on how you are being treated.
3. There will be alot of temptations and peer pressure if you're not careful you'll be dismissed.
4. If at the end your oga decides not to settle you ,that's all for you. He cannot be procecuted by any law since there is no signed agreement.
5. You'll be blamed for some wrong things you didn't do.
6. There are some common thing you won't be allowed to do.. Like voting during election or going to the football field to play with your friends. You can only be at home or shop.
7. For example if you agreed to work for 5years you might see yourself still working for him after 7years with no settlement. I have seen lot of them.

I'm going to be 28 next month. I have seen and experience more, this is all I can say for now. I can't say i am at loss or profit here because I cherish the experience I gained over the year although I didn't get the finance which made to start the journey at the beginning. If I had money I would have just learn the business for less than a year and start my own but such is life. Some of my classmates are doing well while others never see food chop. Some of the females are married with 2 to 3 children. Mine isn't the worst tho. This life no balance.
I just hope this government make things easy for everybody. E come reach my turn to hustle everywhere come red 🔴😂 ..

I thank Se.un for Nairaland o.. Na here I day come read everything including the cruise, bash and banter. SE.UN abeg check if my story na front page material 😁

Bless up brother.

So your stat is better than those that compare number of health practitioners to the population or per thousands of people. Getting them gainful employed should not be the responsibility of the Govt alone. I actually think the Govt should minimize its print in healthcare and privatize different sections of public hospitals, subsidize the poor so they can afford insurance, and support private expansion of the health care industries. That will also reduce the healthcare's exposure to strikes and wage issues. Regulations though is important to guide against abuse of health care workers and small unions should be allowed to negotiate wages and salaries commensurate with experience.

WHO standard says 1 nurse to 5 patients.
Now lemme ask even in UK with a well developed healthcare system, they still don't have 1:5.
That is not on healthcare practitioners, that's in the government.
Now you need nurses to stay back and help out, how? With which job?
Do you know UK is constantly recruiting?
The last time OAUTHC did recruitment was in 2022.And guess what,it was a shoddy one.
They recruited 180 nurses and 90 doctors even with the mass exodus of healthcare practitioners.Till date, those people are yet to be paid.
FMC Abeokuta did their own recruitment this year after so many protest of being short staffed.Guess what, they recruited so little.
Lemme ask you sir,why do you think Nigeria politicians do not patronise Nigeria hospitals?
You think we are not good?
It's because they didn't invest in the sector and they are not ready to.
How then do you expect healthcare practitioners to stick with a dying sector?
What about those without jobs.
Cos I can tell you sir there are doctors and nurses in Nigeria without jobs. What they do is locum job to keep body and soul together. And then you still expect them to stick back when their is no job for them, the environment is nit conducive, the pay is bad and then you still work like a slave for peanuts.
No sir, even my enemy deserves better.

One does not affect the other...we can discuss improving internship so it wont be bone breaking...we definitely need more health workers but you cant have a country without needed healthcare workers. That is putting more extreme pressures on the workers in the country too...creating more bone breaking problems. Its 2 years not 5 years or 10 years. How many years is medical school in the US...4yrs and you start working in the clinic by Year 3...then residency 3 - 5 yrs...on top the education is not subsidized.

You guys don't get it.
Nigeria is not short of health practitioners. They cannot accommodate everybody. When was the last time Nigeria govt employed doctors and nurses?
Do you know the number of times health practitioners have protested for being understaffed?Yet nothing has been done.
Check the figures that graduate annually,to the figures that was employed and to the figures that travelled out.Their you'll have your answers.
Their are unemployed doctors and nurses, and they are the ones leaving. And those who want better life. But Nigeria is not short of health practitioners.

happney65:

I didn't dodge your questions. I might have ommitted it while trying to reply

Health they say is wealth. Right now we are having the highest emigration of our health workers abroad. With some wards almost being closed down

Note. We do not have shortage of other professionals as we have the health sector right now and that is a FACT.

So for that reason I believe government should as a matter of fact do something urgent

If you have subsided education in government tertiary institutions mostly federal you ain't going no where till you give back to that society that gave you that education which is yours for life.

Note. Remember I said it above in my first post that this should be for students who attended government schools. I said private Schools are and should be exempted because they paid through their noses for their education there

E.G. Nursing in leadcity university is about 2Million naira per session. You can't pay 2M for Medicine and surgery for tuition fee throughout your 7years at UI for Medicine

A whole 7years.

So you see now?

Now lemme clarify somethings sir.
1. Nigeria is never short of nurses.
Never.

I finished from OAU,dept of nursing which produces above 100 nurses annually. Now we have OUI in Ife,Adeleke university, redeemers, fountain amongst others who produces nurses too.
Totalling of nurses should not be less than 500 annually.
In addition,we have different school of nursing e.g Seventh day adventist SON Ife,OAUTHCSON, Wesley guild SON,state SON oshogbo an a lot more. I don't want to use Ogun state cos you and I know they have the highest no of institutions.
Now the total nurses churned out in osun cannot be less than 1000 annually.
Now,how many gets employed into govt services annually? 0.
The last time OAUTHC employed nurses was in 2022.Guess what, they only employed 180And the 180 they employed have not been paid till date. Before then, employment was probably around 2015, Jonathan's time.
So Nigeria is never short of nurses.
Plus Nigeria health sector cannot accommodate the numbers of health care practitioners it churns out annually.Weather you like it or not.Rheur is no provision for healthcare practitioner.
What if I told you we have jobless nurses?
Or you think everyone nurse out there is employed.Yeah,we have them a lot,and we have forums where we search jobs just like others.I have so many colleagues,we finished together and till date they are yet to get internship placement.
Now sir, they are never short of nurses. The question is do they even make provisions to accommodate these nurses?
I know nurses in Ife that gets paid 40k.
40k,after paying for so many exams.
Don't let me talk about the exams.
What the university gave me is a degree as a nurse, not the RN certificate which is the basis.
Our RN is just like ICAN exam for economist and accountants. It's not conferred by the university.

It's because their is opportunity to leave this country, that's why you don't get to hear the other side.Cos we don't talk about it enough.

No country trains its workers and allow them to japa without serving...even in Israel you need to serve in the military. Putting conditions for people to show their skills and their competence before japaing...helps everyone including those they will be treating abroad. Imagine, you are in UK and someone from Nigeria that has never practiced Nursing is treating you after license verification with zero experience.

My only ask is that ...it should be easy for people to train in hospitals without knowing people, and they should be able to serve without difficulties for those 2 years.

Then what about the mandatory 1year youth service?
If you're going by experience, are you aware medical personnel go for 1year internship program which is rigorous, bone breaking?

Going by this logic, nobody should school in Nigeria then.
Cos Microbiologist, economist, lawyers are leaving too immediately after the completion of their programme.

You are the nuisance here- Okoro listen to me- I may not be a nurse but I have 3 doctors and 5 nirses from my immediate and extended family all practicing here in the USA- make i shock you? half of them gor their degrees from the carribean- amd they never went to Nigeria to register any bu ll shhhi tttt they came to the USA pass their exams and became medicals

I didnt hear or aee them go to Nigeria to tegiater anything - that degree they got from the Carribean was enough for them to write their cerification exams and start life here amd they were nor even US citizens then

stop talking BS and making a fo ool of your old age online agbaya

You have them as relatives in the US,and you're talking to a nurse who resides in Nigeria how it works in his profession?
How would you feel if I start telling you how it works in your profession based on say I have a relative in the same field?
It is one thing to not know a thing and be willing to learn,it is another to be ignorant and still be arrogant about it.
I don't have your energy.
I don't have to start boasting how many health practitioners I have as siblings.
But don't tell me how it works in my profession.

I'll be nice this time,I won't go easy on you next time.
Be good sir.

I am not bitter but telling you that which is the truth.

We are having a massive wave of health care personal who attended almost free tuition education leaving almost immediately. Yet if the government decides to remove subsidy on education it is you people that will cry the most

A whole lot of Nigerians won't be able to afford tertiary education if the subsidy on education is removed. A whole lot.

Now they give you subsidy on education and immediately you're done you claim Nigeria is this and that

P.S. I mentioned government inadequacies too and said they should increase payment and emuloments for health workers, recruit more and fix the sector

But you claiming because health workers are paid so and so in Europe and America is why you are leaving almost the same. Did the health workers in Europe and America pay the same as you paid in Nigeria for Education?

Capital NO.

Most of them even took student loans that the pay for years.

The government is even magnanimous for making it 2 years. I would have made it 10

I think I asked a question sir.Whichnyoyve dodged.
So lemme reiterate it again.
Is it only health workers that are trained with subsidized education?
If not,Why then should it be only health workers that should be stopped from migrating?
2.What about those that attended private institution, foreign university?
Is it subsidized too? Cos I will tell you I have individuals schooling in Niger,Benin,Togo,Ghana,Ukraine and they have to come back for professional licensure. Now is their education subsidized too?
If you can provide intelligent answers to this sir and not dodge it again, you'll forever have my respect.

if they didnt train on nIgeria how will it affect them ? if they are already outside Nigeria or is your head paining you?

I'll be polite sir.
Now let me educate you so you can stop fooling yourself online. For the sake of your unborn kids.
If you trained outside Nigeria like in aukraine,Ghana,Togo,Benin etc.
You attend their university, after which they confer you a degree called BNSc(bachelor of nursing science)
What you have is a university certificate.
Before you can practice, you need a professional certification called RN (Registered Nurse).
Now after completing your university program, you will come back to you country and sit for the examination which is scheduled by your country regulatory body.If you pass, you will be verified(You'll enter their register as a nurse),you can practice. Also,if you want to travel out, your country will attest to it that you're in their register and not a fraud.

That all.
Now,run along and stop constituting nuisance.

Many are japaing because they want to be called foreign based because they are feeling inferior - so it is a welcome development by the government- even 2 years too small if na me na 5 years before they can practice abroad- at least gain experience and give back to Nigeria that orovided you cheap education

To qualify as a Nurse in the USA the debt you will rack up is up to $50,000 student loans but in Nigeria you owe nothing- yet u cant give anything back ? thats very selfish

Na because them no dey pay tax for Nigeria na him make body dey catch them- some countriee of you live abroad and you want to buy properties you pay extra taxes

Even as an American citizen wether naturalized or born in the USA if you make up to $100,000 a year in any country you live in, you must pay taxes to the American government

Nigeria need to tax those overseas even if na 1% of their earnings - yes make us pay taxes - let us vote too and make us able to run for offixe too easily

thats how we can build our revenue base

Who told you everybody trained in Nigeria?
And it's only Nurses and Doctors that attended your government funded school.
What about those that went to private institution?
Presently OAUTHC school of nursing a federal
teaching hospital is charging 600k per session, please tell me is that peanut as well?

Just like what I wrote on Instagram a while ago

I support this 100 percent. Infact they should make it ten years sef . The same with Doctors and Dentists. This should however be mostly applicable to graduates of government tertiary institutions funded through subsided education

However the government should also do better for medical personnel in Nigeria. Increase their pay and employ more hands not this nonesense government does every now and then

Lol..
1.How do you separate one from the other?
2. On what salary?Nurse should be paid 30k
3.Did your govt pay for my professional examination, licensure, certification, indexing and others too?
4.Are you even aware we pay professional fees annually which they termed as training fee?
5. Is it only nurses and medical personnels that are trained in government funded schools?
What about engineers, lawyers,Agric, linguist, and all other departments? But then only nurses should stay behind.

Been trying to create a similar thread.

However,we say NO to this horrendous reform. It is tantamount to modern day slavery.
After spending 4-7 years with rigorous practice, without breaks during semesters in Nigeria, plus the exorbitant fees we had to pay during our training. We deserve better.
Do you know some nurses are offered 30k monthly salary? after spending millions in schools and for professional exams.

Health / Health Workers Kick As Nigerian Nursing Council Introduces Stringent Conditions by Lifebender(m): 4:01pm On Feb 08
The Council in a memo dated February 7, 2024, outlined what it called the revised guidelines and requirements to be met by all applicants seeking the verification of certificate(s) to foreign nursing boards/councils.

Nigerian nurses and other health workers have kicked against what they described as stringent conditions imposed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) on all applicants seeking verification of certificate(s) to foreign nursing boards or councils.

The Council in a memo dated February 7, 2024, outlined what it called the revised guidelines and requirements to be met by all applicants seeking the verification of certificate(s) to foreign nursing boards/councils
The memo was sent to the Commissioners/Secretary of Health Services; Chief Medical Directors/ Medical Directors; National President; Directors of Nursing Services; Heads of Department; Provosts & Principals; Coordinators; Zonal Officers; All States Ministry of Health & Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; University Teaching Hospitals/Specialist & Federal Medical Centre and National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, National Headquarters, Abuja.

It was also sent to the Ministries of Health, Hospitals Management Board; All States & Federal Capital Territory; All Universities Offering Nursing Programmes, Colleges of Nursing Sciences; Schools of Nursing & Midwifery; All Post Basic Nursing Programmes; All Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Zonal Offices.

The Council in the memo signed by its Registrar/CEO, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, said, “Applicants are to visit https://licence.men.gov.ng/ and log in to initiate verification application by clicking on the verification application link.

“A non-refundable fee per application shall be paid for verification to Foreign Boards of Nursing as specified on the portal. This shall cover the cost of courier services to the applicant's institution(s) of training, place of work and Foreign Board.

“Eligible applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years post qualification experience from the date of issuance of permanent practicing licence. Any application with provisional licence shall be rejected outrightly.

“The Council shall request a letter of Good Standing from the Chief Executive Officer of applicant's place(s) of work and the last nursing training institution attended and responses on these shall be addressed directly to the Registrar/CEO, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Please note that Council shall not accept such letter(s) through the applicant.

“Applicants must have an active practicing licence with a minimum of six months to expiration date. Applicant must upload Certificate(s) of Registration only. Notification of Registration is not acceptable.

“The applicant shall receive prompt notice via his/her email and dashboard on the status of the verification application.

“Please note: Processing of verification application takes a minimum of six (6) months. All applicants shall ensure that complete requirements are met before initiating verification application as incomplete documentation shall not be processed.

“The implementation of this guideline takes effect from 1st March 2024. All pending verification applications before this revised guideline will be processed accordingly.

“Heads of nursing institutions should take note and bring the content of this circular to Nurses.”

But nurses and other health workers have described the guidelines and requirements as a denial of human rights, stressing that there had never been any occasion where regulatory bodies asked for work experience or mandated years of service as a condition for verification.

For instance, a public health nurse, identified as @DTechNurse on X, said, “It is absolutely wrong to attach Nigerian nurses' verification conditions to Chief Executive Officer who are always Medical Doctors.

“Nurses now await the approval of a medical doctor before they can make progress in their career. This decision has to be reversed.”

Also, @AlongeElijah wrote, “Nonsense!!! This is denial of human right and it shall be informed to @ICNurses @WHO @UNHumanRights. Haven been verified by different nursing body around the world. There has never been an occasion where regulating bodies asked for work experience or mandated years of service.

“LagosNannm @PriscaAdejumo @ANANursingWorld @nannna_org @NNCAUK @ICNurses @NLCHeadquarters @UN_HRC. We crave your indulgence to look into the matter between Nigeria nurses vs @NMC_Nigeria on license verification matters and guide us through appropriate legal proceedings.”

Another health worker, @tana_lifted said, “So me that used to work in a military hospital would have gone to a General, a whole general to write NMCN because I want to relocate. Nahhh, they must be joking.”

Another nurse - @NursecoachO said, “At international nursing organisations, before a policy is changed or updated, there will be stakeholders meetings and consultation for agreement, inclusion and fairness. @Nigeria_NMC, you can’t rule over the nurses you are supposed to protect.

“What do you mean by a letter of good standing from the CEO? Why must my CEO know I want to leave? If it’s to oppress nurses, you’ll show up. If it’s to stand up for nurses you’ll disappear.

As the uproar over the verification requirements gets hotter, Nurse Ogochukwu @ogolindalucy announced: “We would be having a walk next week to the NMCN office in Abuja to meet with the Registrar.

“Our reason for this walk is that several persons and organizations have written to them but they have failed to respond so we will now have to take the bull by the horn.”
She said that the purpose of the walk/rally would focus on “Nursing Reform: Improved remuneration for Nurses. We are the bedrock of the hospital but we are the least paid. We need a salary structure for Nurses: private and government hospital should have a salary structure even if that of private nurses will not be the same with those in government hospitals, at least no Nurse should be paid below a certain amount of money.

“Welfare for Nurses: We should have a welfare or committee responsible for making sure no nurse is victimized or abused. In a situation of assault as we have seen in many cases there should be a body speaking on behalf of the nurse. There should be a body where a nurse can report to get justice.

“Reinstate the verification portal: There are so many reasons why one needs verification not just for migration purposes, it is also needed for educational purposes.

“We are members of a professional body, we renew our license every 3 years so an official memo should be sent out before removing the portal from the website.

“You owe communication and transparency to your members. So, we demand an explanation as to why the verification portal was removed from the website and when it will be reinstated.

“End Quackery: The reason why our profession is not respected is because quacks have hijacked our profession, so employers pay us peanuts and people treat us anyhow. These days you cannot differentiate a quack from a Registered Nurse because they have infiltrated our profession.

“These are the reasons why we would rally in NMCN office come next week.

“We need a change in this our profession in Nigeria. Now we cannot just do this alone we need to be United and for those in the diaspora we need your support and assistance. We should not be scared as we are only seeking for our rights and not fighting.

Family / Re: Genotype Issue. Please Be Rational ( I Am Not A Religious Person) by Lifebender(m): 10:43pm On Jul 09, 2023
Bolt458:
I am not writing this for religious people to come with their funny talks, I am just putting this out here to hear from people who might have tried this methods or who heard about this methods and still proceeded or did not. I want to hear your experience. I have been dating someone for 5 years now, it happened that I began to see her as someone I would want to spend my life with. Last year we did our genotype test and we were both AS. Now , I know some of you will say this should be the first thing you ask when you meet someone but c’mon, would you say people in university that are dating now, would ask their sef that question? That theory is only feasible when you are single and ready to get married and want to start a new relationship, then you can always ask, but we all know some of our relationships started when we no Dey even see marriage in the nearest future, all of a sudden you just see them as the right person and you take the bold step. Now, I had to meet my family doctor here in Canada, I explained to him my current situation and he referred me to a GENETIC COUNSELOR. I am trying to take the necessary steps cause I am not ready to bring in a child with Sickle cell to this world, and I am not leaving anything to faith. A fone appointment was set with the counselor and we spoke at length. She told me that in every foetus, there is a 25% chance that we can get an SS child. Now , how do we mitigate this percentage to the barest minimum I asked as I am not even ready to bring in a sickler to this world. She gave me three options, I would rather say two because the last involves test when the baby comes, and that is out of the question.

Option 1:
A) CVS: They take a sample of the fluid in the womb through her vagina, at 12 weeks to test, if it’s good then fine, if not we have to terminate.

OR

B) At 16 weeks, they take the fluid using a needle directly from her womb, and if it’s SS , they terminate. Both procedures are cover by the government and we don’t need to pay a dime.

Now, she assured me that abortion is a very safe procedure if done properly, and it is even a bigger risk that one can die from a penicillin injection or carrying a pregnancy to term than any harm during an abortion.I know many people would come here and say abortion is this and that but let us be frank to ourselves. If you were told that the child in your womb would have cerebral palsy, or Down syndrome or a neurological disorder, would you still keep that pregnancy? Is there a 100% assurance that two AA people would give birth to a healthy baby? I have come to a realization that pregnancy is just a risk that people take, cus you really don’t know how your child would turn out.

Option 2:
PGD. This is just like IVF, where they would select the genotype before they insert back to the womb. She told me the government doesn’t cover this, and it could cost between $10K- $40k. However she mentioned, just like IVf, it is not guaranteed as it can fail and your money is gone.

I discussed this with my girl in Nigeria and she said she was fine with option 1a. I then asked her, that if the first, second are SS would she still remove it. She accepted. I would not lie to you, this girl is everything I want in a woman. I am not just looking at just love because I know love fades with time, but she is a really nice person, and has a good character. She has always been like this from my days in Nigeria because I was with her before I moved outside. Now after finding out our genotype, I tried to get into a relationship with AA. The first one Dey nigeria, she is a nice person, beautiful, but I just didn’t like her or feel attracted to her. She got tire and we just free ourselves, the second one is here in Canada, I just don’t like this one . Please note, I never slept with any of these ladies because I feel it’s not fair.

Now my question is for those who knew all this and still proceeded, how did it work out for you?

I repeat, don’t come here to tell me about how abortion is this and dat. Cus I know if they tell any of you that your child would be abnormal, 90% of you will go for the abortion

In this life, some people defy the odds.
They strive, they toil and they win.
They take their destiny in their hands.
Not a god will decide their fate,
And definitely not a man.
Such men are worthy of emulation.

Nairaland / General / Re: How Much Is Electricity In Your Area by Lifebender(m): 8:48am On Feb 20, 2023
Greatzeus:

Very easy and convenient, you can do it anytime of the day, even at midnight.
There are online merchants like buypower.ng,irecharge etc, but prefer using my GtWorld App because I don't want to put my card details on just any site.
It's very simple steps, just input your meter number, phone number, amount of token you want to buy,and payment method. You will receive a text and email(if you put email) almost immediately after the transaction, containing your 20 digit token

Okay.Thanks very much.
I will try it out.

Romance / Re: My (AS) Genotype. A Major Hindrance In Getting Married On Time. by Lifebender(m): 11:41am On Feb 06, 2023
mostHandsome01:
I will be brutally honest with you and summarise as much as I can.

Believe me, it is better to marry who you love and loves you back than to marry someone because they are AA and after marriage, your life becomes miserable. Many ignorant people will tell you, don't marry your fiancee, you will suffer if you do, etc. But the truth is, knowing you and your fiancee are AS doesn't mean you will both go ahead to have children with SS. You can marry your fiancee that is also AS if you are properly informed. Many will tell you it is not worth it. Yes, it is not worth it to give birth to SS children and let them suffer, but it is worth it to get married to who will give you peace and then you both go through other well known, well proven means of giving birth to children without SS.

Some will tell you, it's too expensive to do as though the money is coming out of their pockets. This mostly happens in Nigeria due to the so many uneducated and uninformed people we have . Some are even educated but still uninformed. Technology has changed the scope of many things. To cut the long story short. If you must marry someone who is AS like you. Do not make the mistake of having a child without doing one of the 2 options below...

1) Prenatal testing: fertility clinics in Nigeria do this. When a woman is pregnant, they check the genotype of the fetus, if the featus is AA or AS (75% chance) they leave the fetus. But if the fetus is SS(25% chance) they safely remove the fetus. Now this isn't for everyone as some people may feel it's against their morals to remove a fetus even if it's SS. So for people like this, you can go for the second option

2) PGD : this is a process where a woman's egg is fertilized with a man's sperm. Several specimen will be carried out, the couple can then choose the one with either AA or AS, that way they stand no risk of having an SS child. Some people use this process to choose the gender of a child. And this process can also lead to twin and even more as many celebrities or people looking for children do this and that's why you see them giving birth to twins at once.

Now listen to me, some people will still discourage you. They will say the stress is not worth it because they are already lucky to find a partner that's AA. Some will say the money is too much even though the money isn't coming out from their pocket. The decision is yours and yours alone. If you want to marry for love and peace and the person giving you this is AS. Go for any of the options above. It's all your choice to make. So there you go. You either marry AA, or do any of the options above. Just make sure you do not have SS children.

Bless you.You spoke my mind.
It's not about getting married and having kids, their's no assurance that one is even fertile enough to father a child. Why not opt for happiness then
But a lot of folks are misinformed in Nigeria today, they don't read.
The issue is...get married, but don't bring SS kids into this world.
The only thing I have to add is...He should have the money for this things. The risks, can be taken care of by the facility he chooses.
