Science/TechnologyBillionaire Richard Branson Is Going To Space This Sunday by Litmus(op): 8:35pm On Jul 09, 2021
Richard Branson prepares to take his daredevil act to space with Virgin Galactic ... and beat Jeff Bezos

Branson is poised for a rollicking ride to the edge of space on July 11, and then the company would reopen space tourism ticket sales.

When he crossed the Pacific Ocean in a hot-air balloon in 1991, Richard Branson ended up so far off course that instead of touching down in Southern California, he crash landed on a frozen lake in Canada.

His balloon ride across the Atlantic four years earlier had been just as perilous, forcing Branson to bail out by jumping into the sea after writing a farewell note to his family in case he didn’t survive.

Over the years, the brash British billionaire has embarked on all sorts of wild adventures, from the dangerously ill-conceived to the merely zany — from attempting a powerboat speed record across the English Channel in seas so choppy it “was like being strapped to the blade of a vast pneumatic drill,” as he wrote in his memoir; to dressing up as a bride to launch his ultimately unsuccessful foray into the wedding gown industry.

Now, the one-man publicity circus,as he has been called, is preparing for what would be the biggest stunt of all: A rollicking ride to the edge of space in the spaceplane developed by Virgin Galactic, the venture he founded in 2004 that he vowed would become the world’s first “commercial spaceline.”

Virgin Galactic announced this week that Stephen Colbert would host the live-stream broadcast of the event, now scheduled for Sunday, though weather and last-minute technical problems could force a delay. And the company also intends to use Branson’s flight as a catalyst to reopen ticket sales for its space tourism business. It had previously cost $250,000 for the flight, which would allow passengers to experience a few minutes of weightlessness. But when the tickets go back on sale, the price is expected to jump to about $500,000, according to analysts.

Like Branson’s previous exploits, the flight from Virgin Galactic’s Spaceport America in New Mexico will be as much theater as adventure, designed to sell tickets as well as to celebrate the commercialization of human space exploration. But that is to be expected from the man who made his start by signing the Sex Pistols to his record label and who’s lived by the motto, “screw it, let’s do it.”

Last week, Branson — who’ll turn 71 July 18 — ensured his spaceflight attempt would get even more publicity when he announced that he would accelerate the test flight schedule Virgin Galactic had previously announced so that he could fly earlier.

The company had planned to fly a test flight with four crew members in the cabin, and then fly Branson. But after Jeff Bezos announced he would fly on his company’s spacecraft to the edge of space on July 20, Branson jumped the line and said he would board Virgin Galactic’s next space flight and — conditions permitting — beat Bezos by nine days.

Tesla Battery Farms Will Destroy Utility Grids

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=956TcLurFy4

World's biggest battery developed by Elon Musk's car firm Tesla is powering 30,000 homes in Australia and has saved residents $116 MILLION in energy costs over two years

Elon Musk bet that if they didn't deliver the battery in 100 days it would be free
They delivered it within 70 days and it has saved an estimated $116 million AUD
It also reduced the cost of operating the once shaky power grid by 91 per cent

Elon Musk owned Tesla installed a battery farm in South Australia in 2017 and has since helped residents save $116 million in energy costs, Bloomberg reports.

The company installed the world's biggest lithium-ion batter to help reduce the risk of blackouts as the country moved to renewable power generation.

Operating via the Hornsdale Power Reserve, it has helped to restore stability to the network and lower the costs of running the power grid, according to reports.

The decision to install the battery came after a Twitter 'bet' between Musk Australian software billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes where Musk promised he could build the battery 'in 100 days or its free'.

Two years on and the battery farm has slashed the costs required to regulate the South Australian grid by about 90 per cent, Bloomberg claims.

Tesla won a bid in July to build a 129 megawatt hour (MWh) battery and had it ready by the start of the southern summer in December 2018
https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2020/03/06/13/25624112-8082841-Operating_via_the_Hornsdale_Power_Reserve_it_has_helped_to_resto-a-18_1583500515716.jpg
Operating via the Hornsdale Power Reserve, it has helped to restore stability to the network and lower the costs of running the power grid, according to reports.

The 129 megawatt system installed by Tesla offers a way to tackle the variable power generated by wind and solar generators - it stores up the energy until it is needed and distributes it through the grid during lower generation periods.

They smooth out the power flows that can threaten the stability of a network made up primarily of renewable sources of energy.

This is what was happening in Australia until the Tesla battery was installed - but since then it has helped respond to those issues quickly.

The battery was built at a wind farm operated by France's Neoen that is located about 225 km (141 miles) from the South Australian capital of Adelaide and will supply power to the lithium-ion storage cells.

It was installed near Jamestown, in South Australia's mid-north.

A state-wide blackout in 2017 was blamed by opponents of renewable energy on the rush to embrace wind and solar power - this led to the Musk bet on Twitter.

'The grid has a heartbeat that needs to be regulated,' Garth Heron told Bloomberg.

He is the head of development for Neoen - the company behind the grid in South Australia and said 'there will be a faster battery roll-out than most people expect.

'They really are able to solve a multitude of problems.'

The battery has been designed to help cover temporary dips in wind power, say for 15 minutes, or help control frequency on the grid at times when natural gas-fired plants are unable to help balance generation and power demand.

Haiti reminds me how those fighting to break up Nigeria claim Nigeria’s size and diversity makes relative progress untenable - and to counter arguments that size and diversity are advantages - proceed to site Norway, Sweden as examples of bite-sized successful nations. These people never site small, bite-sized Haiti that, due to its racial population, is the better approximate. Haiti also gained independence in 1804, underwent a Revolution and is a small, relatively homogenous nation no more divers than other Caribbean ones.

With Organisation comes information for the people, which enable them to express their displeasure at the right people and institutions instead of shout infectively at government directly even if governments are ultimately responsible for creating Organised society. The Contractors were relying on the fact that the people didnt know who they are or how and where to contact them. They relied on the fact that Nigerians appear to tolerate shoddy work or were liable to merely cry that government was corrupt.

The company contracted to do the work was Tunde Civil Works ltd, address Generic road, Benin City, Telephone: 2842930844-21, email: Tunde Civil Works@generic mail.com. During the work, their vans, with company name and phone numbers, were parked in the area. The name of the chief contractor is known.

If the community find the build unsatisfactory they know were to take their verbal or militant complaints. However since the company understands that the people knows them, know that they will face repercussions due to this, they’ll be more liable to do a better civic work, which costs more money. This in turn would’ve made them negotiate a better contract with government so that they wouldn’t need to rely on the ignorance of the people in order to break better than even.
Foreign AffairsRe: "Presumed Assassins" Of President Jovenel Moise Arrested In Haiti by Litmus:
I doubt anyone can argue convincingly that Haitian leaders are historically more corrupt than leaders in other Caribbean nations, yet the rest of the Caribbean nations have left Haiti behind in terms of development. Apart from suspicions that the West never forgets and consequently covertly undermines Haiti at every turn due to Haiti’s defeat of France, 1791 -1804, one cannot help but believe Haitian peoples’ belligerency has stymied their development. I’ve always thought that there is a lesson here for nations like Nigeria. When the people overly concern themselves with politics, allowing politics consume every aspect of their being, instead of getting on quietly with life, the struggle at some point becomes counterproductive to development. Those nations in the Caribbean were the people just put up with their leaders, corrupt or not, steadily progressed while in Haiti where the people refused to put up with “bad government” stagnated.

I know some may romantically think, ‘just you wait and see, once Haiti solves these corrupt government issues, Haiti will rapidly progress beyond the other Caribbean nation that didn’t try to get government working right from the beginning’. But I don’t believe this will ever happen. The rest of the Caribbean will or have slowly grown into responsible governing due to the uplifting of their peoples mindset that relative affluence brings, when peace-stability endures longer enough, and Haiti will never surpass them unless Tsunami, earthquake or other natural disasters set them back.

Nigerians are becoming politicised like Haitians, arguing bitterly, fighting and gnashing teeth up and down, trying to bend things that are possibly unbendable because they are issues controlled by time and season while some other African nation's nationals are passively getting on with life, mirroring how the rest of the Caribbean nations eventually surpassed a nation like Haiti that, at one point, was arguably the pride of the entire black planet.

Nigeria will be safer and Nigerians generally happier or more hopeful about Nigeria when they begin questioning all that they read online or are told instead of automatically believing everything, often jumping to react or respond physically, goaded by these unverified information. I’ve come to see that gullibility is Nigeria’s primary existential treat even above terrorism, kidnapping, separatists and herdsmen. This is since the entire later compound threats are powered by accepted and unchallenged elementary narratives.

With the Northern Mali Insurgency still going strong and France gearing up to pull troops leaving Mali in the hands of a weak military dictatorship and getting suspended from ECOWAS & the AU it looks like it might lead to another 2nd ECOWAS Joint military intervention similar to the Gambia back in 2017.

Prepare people a Quadruple Front War between ECOWAS(Nigeria & Friends) - Mali - Azawad Tauregs - ISWAP is in the works and this time I doubt the Malians will lay down there weapons like the the Gambian military did. Nigerian & Senegalese Armed Forces are about to be working overtime

Looking progressive only spoiled by those black and white markings everywhere; actually, if not for the markings, leaning poles and overhead wires, the place could pass for parts of Europe.

War will destroy all of this and set the place back possibly 50 years. I say 50 years only because the way my dad describes pre-civil war port Harcourt, one would believe it was like this or a little better. If the civil war ended approximately 50 years ago, then it must have destroyed port Harcourt or handicapped it in such a way that it has taken 50 years to get back to today where it was 50 years ago. I suppose another way of looking at it is to say the video is depicting a state and city that is 50 years behind where it could have been today.

It could be that they do but to middle east countries and North Africa. In addition, travelling abroad does not automatically mean escaping any number of intolerable situations just as conversely not travelling does not indicate satisfaction with current circumstances. Well to survive overseas you need to be equipped with a lot of information & be ready to work very hard. You have to be specific & realistic , what’s ur purpose of going ? What & how exactly am I going to achieve it. Do your research and don’t rely on general speculations. I know of someone who sold everything and moved to Cyprus, after 2 months dude came back and had to start over again.

Naija may be hard, but it’s one of the freest places to actually live. In Most developed countries you pay for everything to almost the air you breathe. As a Nigerian who is not used to that you may find it very difficult to adjust coz u probably won’t be prepared for it. People succeed though, but with extra hard work, defined planning and a good support system I think.

As for the person talking about Northerners not traveling abroad. That is not true. They do, but they’re not as vocal as our Southern folks, especially in the media space.
Oga, at bolded, you’re giving the impression you don’t pay for air. Truth is, you do pay for air. Majority of Western nations have some form of congestion charge tax to prevent air pollution. This is a form of air tax.
