I don't know how reliable this your information is, I was reading an article online, it was argued that a person can be undectable in blood viral testing but may be detectable in his semen thus unprotected sex is not safe even if the man is virally surpressed. Conflicting opinion on this issue.

Testimony time !!!

I have been following this thread incognito for a while now since my results came out with very low motility and morphology.

Background; Got married 1st qtr 2022, after over 6 months with no issue, my wife was really worried. She started running all forms of test, which all came back normal. We went to a pharmacy to get some supplements for her, then the pharm recommended Wellman Conception for me. I took the one months supply while my wife was taking folic acid and other supplements she was using. After a few months with no show, I decided to run semen analysis and the result was shocking. 4% motility 0% progressive motility, 2% morphology, count was averagely okay at 18mil. It meant I have been the reason for the delay all this while. I was not convinced with the result, so i decided to run the test again after two(2) weeks, the results was similar. Saw a Dr. With the result and she asked that I continue with Wellman for 3 more months, make some life style changes (excersizing more, less hot showers, wearing free underwear, stop smoking) eating lots of zinc rich foods, she specifically asked that i ate Brazil nuts (good for motility) with other nuts. It was very overwhelming for me.

I found this thread and I read almost every page. There were not so many testimonies, however I made sure I read what they all did differently. @Slinkspec testimony really motivated me as her husband’s result was worst than what I had. I picked a number of things from the steps they took through their journey.

Summary of all what I did;
1. Got three months supply for Wellman conception
2. was taking Brazil nuts, cashew nuts, almond, walnut at least thrice a week

8. Reduced taking hot showers

From Oct 19th was consistent with all the steps listed above, my wife tested positive last week. Really appreciate all those that have posted about how they got help, these stories give hope to those battling one fertility issue or another. Freshly squeezed fruit juice is healthy and not a soda but buying and drinking the ones in packs isn't healthy, considering the preservatives and sugar contents, yoghurt too is cool, but must be taken in moderation and periodically, don't make it a habit

There are husbands who are HIV positive but their wives are negative.
My cousin's husband is positive..9 years +.
Wife is negative.As at last month she registered for ANC.
They have 2 children already.
This is the 3rd pregnancy.
His viral load is undetectable because of medications.

Thanks for the enlightenment. I read somewhere, that a man can have an undectable viral load in the blood , but his seamen may be detectable , thus can infect his wife. Please throw light on this confusion.

There are many couples -one is positive,the other remains negative
They have unprotected sex and have negative children.
They are called "sero-discordant couples"

People who are compliant with their medications usually have high CD4+ count and undetectable viral load,hence they can't transmit the virus through sex .
They are healthy looking and go about their normal businesses.

Pregnant women,like other positive people,take the medications.
There is a special programme in Nigeria called PMTCT(Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission) and it's very active.
The New Born babies of HIV positive women are given medications for a while, usually syrups.
They turn out negative.

HIV is not a death sentence.
Lack of information and education still causing stigmatization and unnecessary panic in this age and time.

Does this information also applies to a man who is positive and on treatment?

I work in the med lab.... Well sometimes we have false negative or false positive. False negative might be dangerous because no further tests are done. But false positives can easily be rectified because further confirmatory tests are done.

What I meant if she's on ART regularly, the chances of her transmitting it to her husband or child is zero because the virus will be reduced to the level where it can't be detected in her blood anymore only in reservoir tissues.

Assuming it is the man that is positive and still on ART, won't the wife be infected ?

It a boils down to adherence. If an HIV positive person has a viral load below 200CPS. It would be impossible to transmit to potential sexual partners and you can give birth to HIV negative children. However, some persons have adhered so well that their viral load is suppressed and becomes undetectable which is good.

Ignorance of what you need to do after you have it is

So now what you must do is get your antiretroviral drugs

HIV is a virus that doesn't kill you on it's own but what it does it attacks and infects your T cd4 white blood cells in your immune system

After your immune system has been destroyed by the virus is when it becomes AIDS. Which simply means you have no immune system left anymore so simple infection like a sore throat could kill you

It normally takes 10 years for the HIV virus to completely destroy ur immune system thus giving you AIDS ( ACQUIRED IMMUNO DEFICIENCY)


The only way to live a normal life like any normal person is to make sure you take your ARV drugs ( the drugs stops the HIV from replicating and destroying ur white blood cells ) so your immune system will never be destroyed

Also finally if you take your ARV HIV regularly you would reach a point where the virus has been so suppressed in your blood system that if you go for a HIV test, they will tell you you dont have it because your viral load of the HIV virus is so low its undetectable .

Also you can easily start a family on a viral low count as you wont pass it on to your wife or children

So from the above explanation one thing is common you must start taking your ARV HIV drugs and take them judiciously with discipline

You will never regret and it will get to a time you wont even believe you have the virus

I work with HIV people, and I must tell you that one thing that weigh infected people down is stigmatization and worry. Please don't worry too much as the virus can only become deadly when you worry too much, fail to adhere to drugs, don't live w healthy lifestyle and become scared of stigmatization. If you can win the fight against these factors then you'll live a long and have a normal life. Millions are living with the virus and they are fine sir. It's not a problem at all
