Also house , the school I want to apply to didn't include statement of motivation in their required documents. Is it necessary writing one ?

Finally , my school charges 15k for students transcript . I hope with one , I can make photocopies and send to the different schools ?

If the school doesn't request for it then don't send it. For example the Biomedical Engineering program at Luebeck doesnt ask for it and they have strictly mentioned that submitting one wouldn't improve your chances.

As for the student transcript, yeah it is sufficient if you submit certified copies to the schools that you are applying to. The schools don't ask for original transcripts or certificates except during enrolment which is when you have traveled over to Germany. Just go to a high court or visit the embassy to certify.

Well I think this motivation letter of a thing varies from schools and courses, because the highest i have seen for my course is (350-450 words). Maybe because i will still have to submit a portfolio. BTW Its Architectural related courses. Anyway even if they want 10,000 words, we dey gallant.

@House, does anyone know for sure that the embassy and or alien office does not have access to one's motivation letter used in applying for admission?

The reason is because while applying, I went to do oversabi in my motivation letter by stating I would be quitting my job to learn German (even though its not required for my course). I eventually didn't quit my job nor learn German.
So I need to know if the embassy/alien office could have access to this information so I'll know what to say before I attend the interview.

Bro. If you are asked about that in your interview just be sincere and tell them that you couldnt quit the job amymore to learn German. They are aware that peopke make plans and circumstances change these plans. Tell them the truth about why you couldn't quit.

The VO asked me whether I had learnt German before nd I told her the truth that "I attended the Goethe Institutin May 2014 for only one day" and she entered my response into her computer. That means that the foreigners office must have seen that but they still issued my visa.

So don't be worried. Just tell them you couldn't quit and explain if they ask for reasons

Union Bank charges/rate may be a bit higher compared to Fedelity and Starling bank. But Union bank will not ask you all that. They will not put you through all that stress. The only documents required by Union banks are your Admission Letter, BSc Certificate, NYSC Discharge Certificate and a Hand Written Letter authorising them to go ahead with the transaction. What some of us do is that we ask the students record office to send the transcript to another school where we know someone that will hand it to us.

Different schools have varying admission dates. Even within the same university, different departments have different deadlines. So narrow down your list of schools and check the individual departmental requirements and deadlines. Use www.daad.de/en to search for schools or just use google.

Owning a company doesn't benefit your admission in any way except if it is one of the requirements . If you are applying for a business related course theb you can describe your entrepreneurial skills in your motivation letter.

@Ndababa I think you are very wrong about it bro. If you earn a 1st class that a automatic qualification for PhD. Maybe you should ask your local university to confirm this. The young man knows exactly what he's talking about.

Plain wrong. Even top schools like MIT, Berkeley, Stanford etc need you to do an msc before starting a phd. Dont you know what a PhD is? A first class cannot in any way prepare you for the rigors of academic research. That is why the top schools have the so called "direct phd programs" and build in a masters degree within the program so that the candidate can take coursework and also write a thesis that would prepare him or her for the real thesis.

The masters degree is a pre-requisite for those who graduated with 2.1 and want to further to the Phd level.

Same applies to those who graduated with 2.2 and maybe 3rd class; but those need to obtain a post graduate diploma first, then masters, then Phd.

This post is two years old but I must correct it coz of future readers of the thread.

A masters degree is not for people with 2:1 and below. It is for anyone who is interested. The UK is one of the fee countries that grant direct phd admission to first class students. Swtizerland (with world class schools like ETH and EPFL) make the masters compulsory on everyone before doing a phd.

Even in America with their direct phd admissions, you still have to do a masters degree in your first two years of study and then start the PhD research after passing you PhD qualifiers.

Those of you with 2:1 and below, dont despair..you can make it

I sent all as PDF according to their instruction. You can get free pdf merging applications online. You will only be asked to send hardcopy to the international office after the geophysics programme has admitted you.

2 pls can you kindly list d documents u submitted n hw u submitted them?

The list of documents are on the programme website. Just follow the instructions and send in certified copies as requested.

3 Any helpful tips as concerning my proposed applicatn n my letter of motivation cos ve gt no experience in d field ( i read industrial physics)

Helpful tips:

1) certify your documents with a notary public or high court before uploading. Once you have been admitted then you can go to the embassy for another certification before you send hardcopy to them

2) The motivation letter is very important to them. You dont need experience in geophysics before you cam write a solid letter. I also am from Electrical Engineering background. Just relate the concepts you have learnt in physics to your new found interest in geophysics. For example you can talk about how your coursework in Elecrromagnetic theory got you interested in wave propagation beneath the earth which them exposed you to tje interesting area of seismology etc.

Sori if they questiöns are too much n too early to b asked, just wanna get prepared cos application starts jan n i want to b fully prepared as i plan submitng as early as possible. Tnx lot.

We dont submit visa motivation letter here in Nigeria. But I guess the Indians submit. Just google "german student visa cover letter" and follow the links.

I guess he did a poor job linking the two during his interview. I have seen people get visas for more contrasting studies from their first degrees than this.

I don't think he had an interview (or perhaps it was a very short one). He was here on this thread after his visa appointment and he mentioned how easy the visa processing is in Dubai as opposed to Nigeria.

Perhaps the detailed interview that we do here in Nigeria is for our own good

For everyone that I have met and also myself..the passport was stamped and a letter D was written above the stamped area and it was also returned to us.

This is just my thought...

There is a difference. We are acquiring an education and helping the economy by doing jobs that actually make a difference after our education in Germany. The little jobs that we do whilst studying are only to supplement our blocked acct or sponsorship, but in the case of Syrians most are only qualified for these little jobs.

Thanks. I funded a week after the interview and sent the embassy a confirmation. I do not speak German but I am currently enrolled in the intensive summer A1 course at Goethe. I don't think that a lack of knowledge of the language would affect your visa process as long as your course is completely in English

No matter what..we should back our statements with evidence. That is the only thing that fosters intellectual growth. I never said he doesn't know more than he is saying, but we also need to keep things simple by showing proof one way or another. We can't keep saying things like "he is a boss or he knows more than what he is saying or he lives in Germany so he know this or that"

And of course I agree with him that we need to be careful about helping people cheat or deceive the embassy.

What is all this stuff about embassy staff reading the Nairaland posts? Where is the proof? The claim was very rampant on this group at one time and now it is resurfacing again without any evidence. Those guys are busier than anyone can imagine and many people still believe without evidence that the embassy has some people whose jobs include visiting this thread

As regards the letter from your school stating your yearly expenses, I advise that you check your school webpage for information on living expenses per year. Print it out and show it to them at the bank as it will have the school logo on it (I faced this issue at Stanbic and they were fine when I showed them that, even though I eventually paid with Union Bank).

Go and translate your letter with the affidavit at a high court: this kind of thing doesn't require the whole wahala of contacting your language school.

Bro, some people have earlier complained about this same issue. The news is that the embassy currently has so many student visa appointments on its hands such that there are hardly any free dates. Perhaps you can call them and inquire about this so as to calm down. All the best.
