fubbyy: Sometime ago I opened a thread where I asked if atheists believe that satan exist also,the thread went about 5 pages and all of them said no.
If you(atheists)said that God doesn't exist I think that is understandable because to me God is a bit silence to some certain issues but devil is so vibrant that anyone who said he doesn't exist must be joking,last week I was going to asaba from ph,I got to onitsha to pick another trans, I saw people gathered at upper iweka and A man was doing magic, I went to take a look,this man put 6 inches nail into his eyes and nack it with a stone and it all entered,he later make his head turn backwards and his stomach went oneside,he perfomed so many magic which I know its a power from devil, we africans have seen all sorts of devilish act, even in my village I have seen a case where something got lost and the suspects were taken to a shrine to swear and the victim instantly ran mad until some sacrifice were made and he was restored,so to all the atheists, if you said that devil doesn't exist also then who owns all this magical and satanic power we are seeing everyday,please don't tell me you haven't seen any of this things before because it will be ridiculous if you said so.

cyrexx: pls i need an atheist to answer this question clearly and logically, without strong language that abuses religion. i'm personally beginning to lose faith in mainstream religious teachings (christianity and islam)but i have some questions that nags at my soul that i need anwsers before i finally cross over to atheism
1.The complexity of our planet points to a probable deliberate designer who not only created our universe with carefully thought details, but sustains it today. e.g. the distance from the sun to the earth is perfect, if its shorter or longer, there would be chaos. could the universe have caused itself to be?
2.our brain is another complex machine that baffles me.it simultaneously processes an amazing amount of information. our brain takes in all the colors and objects we see, the temperature around us, the pressure of your feet against the floor, the sounds around you, the dryness of your mouth, even the texture of your computer keyboard. Your brain holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and memories. At the same time your brain keeps track of the ongoing functions of your body like your breathing pattern, eyelid movement, hunger and movement of the muscles in your hands. The human brain processes more than a million messages a second. Your brain weighs the importance of all this data, filtering out the relatively unimportant. could your brain have created itself. is there not a genius designer who designed it
3. the universe had a start, according to scientists. but something cannot just start itself, e.g. a car engine cant just start except someone started it or programmed it to start at certain time.logically,somebody must have started the universe. and who is he. does anybody know.
4. the universe operates by laws of nature, as every reasonable scientists will agree. if there is a law, is there not a lawmaker who formulated those laws.

i need a sensible and unemotional answers these questions, if anybody knows. thanks in advance

1) Complexity is the basic argument for creationism and intelligent design. However, intelligent design fails. A complex thing can occur form years of a number of different random occurrences. Let's take a look at glass. Glass can have a designer- that is glass manufacturers. Glass is not easy to make- it goes through a long and complex manufacturing process. However, we can also see glass made naturally. Fulgurite is glass made form lightening and sand. Fulgurite naturally occurs when lightening strikes sand at a particular temperature. This is an example of how something complex (glass).

It is very possible tha planets got formed by random occurences happening over the years. Also, the sun and earth are not perfect. Are there not places on the earth that are too hot to survive (deserts)? What about the depletion of the ozone layer? Do you forget that the sun is also a star that will explode inevitably?


2)Complexity again. Our brain evolved over millions of years as a method of adaptation to our environment. It would have happened step by step. Living things adapt to their environement. Living things have a mind of their own and we can even see that in bacteria that move to warmer conditions to procreate. The early humaniods brains might have started from percieving light, to understanding colour, to understanding contrast and brightness.

3) The universe might have a had a start. No one can say for certain and no one knows exactly how the world started. However, if there was a god that started it, the question then would be, who started the god that started the universe?

4) Paradox. The universe has laws that guide it but the creator would have to break those laws to be able to create the universe. How can a creator bound by time and laws of physics and matter create a universe? The creator would have to be above these laws but then, he would also have to be not part of the universe (how is this possible- he created the universe and yet can not take part in it)
