justwise: I have won a case against them and they did not send any lawyer neither did i use any lawyer. If they knew that they don't stand a chance in a case why wasting money on a lawyer?Clap for yourself, at least you agree they didn’t stand a chance…that was the whole point of my ‘they are fond of making hasty decisions’ statement. Beats me why UKBA would make decisions they don’t stand a chance of winning in a court of law. In addition, to clarify issues, the main reason they didn’t send a Lawyer was because they were overstretched that day, as they had more serious cases to attend to (I mean what would you expect from an agency that goes round causing trouble ). Their Lawyer even had the guts to tell mine that he was lucky they didn’t assign him to my case. |
justwise: Blame the uni, they knew the punishment for breaking the rule ages ago, its nothing knew.Nah, I blame UKBA 60%, as they are fond of making hasty decisions. Last problem I had involved one of such decisions, which was used against them in court. The most annoying part is they didn’t even send a Lawyer/Solicitor, and I spent enough £’s on mine. Anyway, we'll see how things pan out. |
justwise: The university knew about this since March, they saw this coming and kept quiet, now the student is suffering it. I don't like this timing but the uni should have put their house in order.Well, fair enough, but it still does not justify their decision. UKBA could have suspended the university licence without banning them from teaching current students – you don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. If these students abscond or resort to crime, they will have a bigger issue on their hands. |
"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton. Then again, in Nigeria, it seems power, no matter how limited, corrupts, lol. |
As usual, the UKBA have gone guns blazing on foreign students in a bid to curb immigration, without properly thinking about the consequences of their action. What they should have done is to prevent new students coming in, and given the university a period to let current students pass through. This way, they would not have panicked students who are uncertain of the future, apart from the stress of living in a foreign land. With the unnecessary chaos they have created, I honestly wonder what happened to the brains England had in those good old days. Now, it seems to be a bunch of disgruntled legislators, nit picking on foreign students and foreigners in general. |
Does being a good person pay off? Hmm, I guess it is only at the point of death that we will know for sure. As with all things in life, it is good to apply wisdom. Besides that, your spirit man should always be your guide. There will always be poor people amongst us, as the good book states. Therefore, having the right spirit and listening to it should guide one on whom to help. |
beqs101: Hi people,I met mine in a club, and after about a month or two, she was implying marriage. |
tendercharles: Its now a normal trend among married ladies, they dont completely replace their father's name with their husband's name. I believe the husband should be in full possession of the woman after wedding but she, still having to use her father name creates a notion that she still 'partly' belongs to her father. I can't allow my wife to retain father's name after our wedding oo. What do you guys think? They usually put their fathers name in the middle with a hyphen before the husband’s name (i.e. if her father's name is nairaland, her surname will be nairaland-tendercharles). If she is an only child, then don’t see what the fuss is about. Besides, my surname is already more than 11 characters long, so except she wants to run out of ink when writing, I doubt if she’ll want to add a middle name, lol. |
gulfer: Steal(Deal)lership with inexperienced heads and experienced, meticulous auto buff are two different things. Dealership employ more substandard mechanics due to obvious cash demand by an experienced hand. I will go for an experienced head/hand either in a dealership or or the roadside but will never, i repeat never give my car to any roadside mechanic. I'd rather tow it back home or to my trusted mechanic. So, how do you know the difference between a dealership with an experienced hand and one with an inexperienced hand? They both charge the same high rate; I believe mine charged something like £90 per hour (VAT inclusive) without the diagnosis fee. I understand what Immune#1 said about the perks, but it’s now a case of ‘once bitten, twice shy’ for me. Apart from the manufacturer service stamp, which a friend of mine managed to get hold of, I no longer see the advantage. |
afam4eva: If you married someone who's not from your tribe, tell us the problems you encountered(if any) and let's know if you're happy with your marraige and if you'll marry the same person from that tribe if you had a second chance.I’m a product of an inter-tribal marriage, I know the experience helped me as I am in no way tribalistic. In addition, I got the best traits from both worlds, and it helped my relations with females from other nationalities, as I approached (even welcomed) the different cultures with an open mind. Growing up, I know it took my mom time to adapt to the cultural differences, heck; she contemplated running away with us a number of times. I guess all it takes is a little getting used to; orientation helps a lot too, for the females especially. |
queensmith: You had to research about the boat race? Is your old school in the jungle? :pProbably, but just mean’t for the lions, the crème de la crème of the ajekpakos. We are all higher animals anyway. queensmith: O thats good, we can't all be hawny rabbits, nl has enough of those especially long one. . . . the screename sef . . . . .I should have noticed. . . so much for my prestigious degreeWith your dirty mind, lol. Don’t mind me; I’m not this randy in real life...probably worse. Still, as I have been branded a ‘good boy’ here on nairaland, wouldn’t want to go breaking hearts now, would we?queensmith: Lemme check my schedule and see if I can pencil you in , between the money chasing . I've always wanted me a sugar babyLol at sugar baby, but seriously you won’t regret it. I might say a lot of silly things, but it might just be a facade, hmm, MAYBE NOT. As usual, it’s been a pleasure arguing with you. Find my replies to the other thread below: https://www.nairaland.com/948967/5-qualities-wife/15 Ciao. |
queensmith: You are very right, it is for security. and the fact that most of us are 'like minded'. Probably not really a good thing (we may all be snobs) but it helps for a better relationship.Funny enough, the ones I have worked with were not snobbish. It’s possible it’s the black ones, particularly Nigerians because of that darned ‘I pass you’ Naija mentality. queensmith: Lol- there is a fair share of 'top university' graduates with giggs in startbucks- I don't want to think of the number of 'others' busy with 'part time dj' on their resume'sTouché. queensmith: Thats a big lie! a big lie! and i'm very glad you mentioned the boat race, these universities cannot be rivaled when it comes to social activities. (and bloody drunken students!) Please don't say that again. . . .please don't.Yeah, they can’t be rivalled in social activities, but the context I used it in was collectively, where individual strengths should complement each other, but becomes an issue when the strengths are the same, even marring performance. This is where they are socially fragile. [Download Cambidge University’s Itunes U podcast under Management Science and Operations, titled Managing the leaders by Mark De Rond. When you listen to it, around the 6:57 mark he actually calls the higher performing graduates “socially awkward”] Dr Mark De Rond’s research into high performance teams brought out this fact seen here: Moreover, in crew selection it occasionally makes sense to sacrifice technical competence to gain social cohesion. Although a particular rower may be sub-optimal in terms of technique, he may optimise crew performance by virtue of his social skills in drawing better performances out of the others, even for a sport reliant on technique, synchronisation and rhythm. http://www.cam.ac.uk/research/features/the-making-of-a-boat-race-crew/ All I wanted to point out was too much of a good thing can be bad, as his observation also shows when he mentions ‘sacrificing technical competence’. You will notice that prior to this study, Oxford had been winning the boat race, but after this, Cambridge won. My stand has been, and still is, focusing on the individual’s strength’s will give you a larger range, whereas using the University as a criteria will reduce your options considerably. I hope you find what you are looking for in your type of University, but I still stress the complementary skills part, not someone exactly the same as you. queensmith: It has a big part, someone from a bad environment has to work much harder than someone from a good one. It makes sense, don't you agree? For example, if a man was openly homophobic, and went to an 'other' university, I will just put it down to him having little (relevant) exposure and a relatively poor education.Oh well, true, but some of these hard experiences help to strengthen a relationship. The downside is it makes a divorce more difficult, as partners find it hard to part with property at that stage because of the shared history and emotional attachment. About the homophobic part, you win. queensmith: You are a jowka, I agree with you for the most part. It's not like coming from a good university guarantees anything, but most successful couples come from similar backgrounds (or from what I've observed). It's better to be married to someone you can respect.Fair enough. |
queensmith: Research? And can you imagine I actually pulled all the points I made to you right out of my arse? lmaoHahaha, the research part was strictly for some Cambridge boat-racing thing I mentioned. If you think you can stand this mind intellectually, bring it on. It will start from a battle of the minds and definitely end between the sheets. Are you game? ![]() queensmith: I hope that cloth is Giorgio Armani, otherwise there will be no holding of queensmiths hands anywhere! Besides, I chase money and money, and in my spare time I chase some more money I cant let any of it escape from my clutches . . . . . or clutch purse. Now, why would you want to go and say that? You act as if you don’t need someone to take you home and make you moan. Now, we all know that’s not possible, so why delay the inevitable? Let’s just fast-forward so you can go on with making the money we will both spend-satisfaction guaranteed. ![]() |
Eating groundnut, while driving – a friend's mum used to do this. (the boiled groundnut O! That is breaking them and eating while driving) Left leg on the door (some choose the dashboard instead) with window fully down, close to the side view mirror – . Manual or Automatic, I don’t know O! |
Immune#1:From my experience, the cheaper guys are often better skilled, I once took my car to a main dealer for a fault diagnosis and was quoted hundreds of pounds for a part plus their expensive labour. After I fitted it, it still had the same fault, so I took it back to my normal mechanic and he diagnosed a completely different problem, hence I ended up buying a part the car didn’t really need. Man, I was pissed, as my mechanic could have done it, but I stubbornly opted for the main dealer option, as I did not want to spend on a part I didn’t need and thought they couldn’t be wrong. Penny wise, pound-foolish. |
queensmith: Iyam fine oooo- lol if you can find it! But I think i have already finished you so you needn't botherDon’t worry, I’ve been lazy about researching that’s all, you can run, but can’t hide, ‘cos I’ll still get you and get you real good. I have just caught the fire again and yes, I’ll find it. queensmith: so gyst us on the details of the female pursuing post uni daysAh, no now, I’m now a man of the cloth, but in your case, I’ll make an exception, even go the extent of holding hands, playing in the rain and do all that mushy stuff. Besides, money and chics, when you are pursuing one, the other is getting away. |
^^^ hey, what’s up. Long time, no argument, which reminds me, I still have to reply you. |
Lol, I guess your father has not yet found his competitive advantage. Besides, how do you measure wealth and investment? There is wealth of knowledge, wealth of experience, etc, not just physical wealth. Your father has invested in you, which you should in turn do for your kids, they for theirs and so on. I’m sure somewhere down the line one of your family members will hit it big, it might even be you. Someone in Dangote’s line must have asked questions like you and found an answer by trying. Bottom-line, the sky is big enough for all, even if you fail; at least you will have the satisfaction that you tried. You just need to find your niche and as someone mentioned, do something you enjoy doing. |
Phew, memories of my misguided youth. The good old days after graduation, when I pursued the most chicks, cancelled enough bottles, and turned my lungs into a full time combustion chamber. I still found time to do Oracle in NIIT though, which I failed due to the above mentioned. Don’t go down the way I went, you have received a lot of good advice, please follow it and make hay while the sun shines. |

I get bored easily, as my mind constantly wanders…even during foreplay. ![]() I am very direct and straight to the point; this has gotten me into countless issues with the ladies. Gradually learning how to sugarcoat things and shut-it once in a while. |
So much for best-laid plans, ‘the best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry’ . Still, their Eastern counterparts, Japan, developed lean principles including the seven wastes used by the west even today, so there is no doubting their creativity or Brains. Bottom-line, as long as they learn from their mistakes, they will still prosper. As the world’s most populous country, I do not see how the infrastructure will come to waste. Even if they do, at least they provided their citizens with enough building/construction skills. If they so choose, they could set-up companies in the African market, where these skills will reap profit, as is often seen. |
Mr femi: loooool trust me this guys are not at work...monday morning for crying outloud....abegiiii....methinks they are on vacation mostly.....looooool....nywz i need a job o guysSeriously, at my work desk now , having devised some criminally minded strategies to browse, without getting caught…the type only a true Nigerian can come up with.somebody: You are right - I am on holidayYou just made my day. I finally found a nairaland age mate with fewer posts, lol. Mr femi: I'm in the last month of my masters programme...In the Uk at the momentWell, wish you good luck and God speed, the path ahead is rocky, but as the thread shows, still possible regardless of what they say. You just have to find your niche. |
^^^What makes you think ‘they’ are not at work? It shows they have good jobs, even though they are obviously unproductive. I mean, if they were washing toilets or dead bodies, would they have access to a PC at work? ![]() |
^^^nah, no need, was just curious. I’m an Engineer with 2 years plus UK work experience, somebody’s analysis was on point. |
Claus: ^^^They come from investment banks. Thanks, I feel a lot better now, lol. Corporate investment banker : Salary and conditions |
According to an old survey carried out by prospects, a website aimed at fresh graduates, the median salary in the UK is £20,800, with a £25,000 upper quartile. Therefore, I honestly do not know where some of these figures come from. |
boyendowed: The source is pasted there and you are still asking for the source mikolo.007: charlsecy4: STOP PRETENDING YOU'RE BLIND!SMH at nairaland geniuses, the future of our great country. Is it not obvious? He put those links after he saw my comment. |
Source, please? If not one might be inclined to believe its Hollywood at work again. |

and getting some much needed rest. A look at my profile suggests I have 206 posts since January 2006 so that should tell you I don't spend all my time on nairaland. Infact, I can't access nairaland from my work pc. Anyways, what kind of job are you looking for? Are you in Nigeria?
