BOOOMNAIJA:
This covid-19 pandemic is really taking its toll on d African continent and these are indeed challenging times.....even monarch must fight tooth and nail just to earn something....ndi monarch makes testing kits....I can't laff oo grin grin

Try to read the article sir.

It said he is a trained Medical scientist and owns a factory that produces test kits.

A simple google search showed that he obtained a degree in Medical Technology from an American University and worked in US for a while prior to becoming a monarch in Imo state, moreover his company has also in the past produced nafdac approved pregnancy and HIV test kits.

Don't always be in a hurry to poke fun at people who are actually trying to make a difference in the country.

I hope it proves to be sensitive and specific enough, so it can be validated quickly for possible use.

We can't keep waiting for PCR test which is less accessible and takes about 4 days sef for result to come out , and what is paining me seriously about this thing is that patients who have other diseases with symptoms similar to covid 19 are actually being rejected from hospitals because of the inability to test for covid 19 and are thus sent home to die.

Moreover, at this snail pace at which NCDC is testing, I am wondering how they want to achieve their aim of testing 2 million Nigerians by June ending. Maybe they meant June next year sha since they're still on about 60k tests atm.

Education / Re: Advice Needed: Is Going To The University Worth It Anymore? by Lorazepam(f): 1:32pm On Jun 01, 2020
There are some connections, friendships and exposures you gain in the university that you may not be able to gain anywhere else, so I will advise you go. Going to university and starting a business are not mutually exclusive, and both can be done successfully together.

I can tell u that Staph was contamination.
You are already making diagnosis of UTI. yes, uti.may be recurrent UTI that requires extensive investigations to identify predisposing/ underlying risk factors in a male child.
poorly treated UTI- chronic pylonephritis- kidney failure
Do not play with fire, good healthcare is costly. Please do the right thing by seeing a paediatrician URGENTLY.
Op pay serious attention to what this guy said
UTI in a Male child is not something to joke with.

Ikrr I have probably read all of his novels published under the James Hadley Chase Pseudonym, pretty hard to pick a favourite one, but If i had to pick, it would be the "The Vulture is a Patient Bird" and all his titles that involved Tom Lepski and the paradise city crew grin

By the way,I think the number of discharge cases are wrongly reported or under counted. We had 2592 total recoveries.borno had 135 while lagos recorded 29.how come it is not reflecting? Ncdc should continue losing credibility

Honestly bro, on NCDC website , they claim Lagos has discharged 745 patients, while Lagos state ministry of health said they've discharged 854 patients. Confusion everywhere undecided

Health / Re: Covid-19: Loss Of Sense Of Smell: A Possible Prognostic Marker Of Mild Disease? by Lorazepam(f): 11:03pm On May 28, 2020
Possible
But this would require further studies and research.

I even wish a random sample of the population in maybe Lagos could be picked and tested , to have an idea of the incidence of covid in the population.
This was done in Afghanistan where about 500 random apparently healthy people in the capital city of Kabul were selected and tested for Coronavirus and about 150 of them actually tested positive, that's 30% prevalence rate !!

And as of the time that study was carried out, which was earlier this month, the official statistics were that Afghanistan had carried out 12000 tests nationwide and about 2700 had tested positive.

Just goes to show how far and wide the disease had spread, and that their official numbers were a poor reflection of the actual situation on ground.

That's probably the same thing happening in Nigeria. Just my opinion though.

Don't get me wrong, I believe there is convid-19 in Nigeria but all these figures being released every night especially in Lagos State is frightening.

So, my question is if you know anyone( in person) that has tested positive to convid-19 in Nigeria that is currently in isolation centres or has been discharged.
Smh. Someone in my neighbourhood even died from covid 19 recently , and I personally know not less than 6 people that have been infected, of which two are currently in isolation centres in Lagos, while the rest have recovered.

I don't know why people are always looking for those with the illness. Most people that have the illness dont even go about broadcasting it to avoid stigmatisation.

I've done the test and it's negative.
Which type of test was it exactly, you should do gene Xpert test and not just sputum AFB which is less sensitive.
If all is still negative, I suggest you visit a hospital that has a respiratory medicine consultant/specialist for further detailed evaluation, there are quite a number of other conditions that can cause someone to cough for over two months. Could be a number of chronic respiratory conditions and it might even be of cardiac origin, try to see a specialist.

It's over two months now that I've been battling with this cough and I've visited the hospital several times because of it. The most worrisome part of the scinario is that the cough always come at night when i lie down to sleep. It disturbes my sleep always by waking me up about every 30mins in the night. The two kinds of drugs always prescribed to me at the hospital are benyllin and tutolin which I've taken several times despite the fact that they always make me weak and feel dizzy and even make me worry as a nursing mother. This caugh still persists. Please I need possible recommendations. Thanks.
I suspect tuberculosis.
Go for confirmatory tests in govt hospital and stop visiting those hospitals you were visiting, I doubt they know what they're doing and you're just wasting your time and money on cough syrups

Thank you. He is my nephew and they reside in Delta State(warri).

Did not know there are special hospitals for sickle cell disease.

Will research more on such hospitals. I have little knowledge regarding this.

Thank you

Any Govt teaching hospital/FMC should be okay, they usually have special clinic days for sickle cell patients.

My nephew genotype result came out today, he is an SS patient. Since he was born, he has this yellowish eyes and slim body.

Please family how best can we manage him. He's always sick.

He is seven years old.

Please I need help on the type of food, supplements, herbs etc

Thank you
First and most important thing is to register him in a reputable sickle cell clinic close to you, where he will going for regular appointments, then you'll be given a list of medications, that he will be on for life which will reduce the numbers of crisis and complications that may arise from sickle cell disease later on in life. You will also be throughly educated about the disease and things to avoid and danger signs to look out for.
Plasse register him in one as soon as possible, and attend the clinic as often as the doctor asks you to.
May God grant you strength, having a child with sickle cell disease is not easy at all, but with the right care and treatment, many of them will do well and live long.

hurryup123:
I just put to bed few days ago through cs and the doctor came in this morning to check on us and adviced that we start putting out the baby under early morning sun from tomorrow and that while doing that the baby should be blind folded with a black clothe.
now i want to know the effects and other remedies for jaundice in new born babies. Ur contributions will be well apreaciated.
Many times you cant just determine if the jaundice is serious or not just by looking at the baby, that's subjective and not an objective assessment especially to the untrained eye.

I will advise you take the baby to the hospital and let them measure bilirubin levels to determine the extent of the jaundice. Better safe than sorry. At least if its not that high, you will be sent back home , if its high, they will treat the baby appropriately.

In the mean time, avoid using things for your baby: like methylated spirit , menthol containing substances, camphor etc.

Jaundice in a new born if severe, can lead to may problems both in the short and long run, Google it for more info.
