Hello
My friend wants to know if she will need a transit visa. The flight is Lagos to Frankfurt to Milan to Toronto.
Your friend (if Nigerian) will need a schengen transit visa for this itinerary, because she will travel in between two schengen countries and there is no border control within the schengen region.
See the circled part of the attached screenshot

Fair to some extent methinks. Will be better if you go this alone whenever you decide, let other members of your family stay aside and be your tie back home.

Will use this opportunity to appeal to other nairalanders; once in your calculation you observe your case looks seemingly complicated, kindly leave other members of the family out of it and face it head on, this piece is for husbands as individuals and wives too as individuals. Others not directly affected should even apply/renew ahead of you if possible.

The bolded is a very great submission, my wife had traveled to US three times (2 missionary and one visit in between ) with two different visas, I have not for once applied for US visa to travel with her.

A friend was at the embassy to get a B2 visa for birthing. This is their third missionary journey. This was their second attempt to get this visa.

At the first refusal he debated the low bills with the VO. Said he paid what he was billed. The VO then requested to see the kids birth certificate but they didn't go with it and they were denied.

When he talked about it I pointed out to him that the problem was that he used an American address instead of their Nigerian one in the birth certificates but he didnt take it serious.

At their second attempt, the VO repeated the same you are not qualified at this time...you can find the reason in this paper....However he didnt want to hear that line. cheesy. He asked her to tell them the real reason and she said the birth certificate carries a US address and hospitals use that to defraud the government etc.

After series of talks he then asked the VO if they were banned for life. Does this mean that they will never go to the US because of this? The VO said no. He then asked her when they will be eligible to go to the US since she said that they are not eligible now.

He further explained that the hospital didn't assist him to fill the birth documents. He went to the county and filled the forms. He insisted that the county clerk said the american address was okay.

The VO exited twice during the interview. She approved their visa when she returned the second time. grin
The bolded statement maybe very true. My wife had our baby recently and she filled the birth certificate form at the hospital herself, she used our Nigerian address as residential address and my sisters US address as correspondence address as the certificate can’t be mailed abroad. Lo and behold the birth certificate came with the US address as the residential address. Sometimes it could be the clerks in a bit to make the work easier use US address in all address section of the certificate(my opinion).

Hello,

Can one request to submit one's passport later (say, a week after) upon a positive visa interview?

My colleague is scheduled for an interview on the same day that's travelling on a company's sponsored trip. If he passes the interview and the passport is collected, he won't be able to make the trip given that his passport will be required. Cancelling the interview means he not only forfeits the fee paid (he would have rescheduled twice) but also has to wait till October at least for another interview date.

Yoir thoughts, please.

Thank you
If the visa interview is successful, your colleague can inform the officer of his/her travel plans and he might be ask to submit his/her passport at dhl office upon his/her return from the official trip. I think someone has suggested this to an applicant on this thread before, but I am not really sure of the outcome.

I didn't miss any line. I read everything you posted and they are all false.

You said one doesn't need a schengen transit visa if he has visa for the final destination and is transiting only one schengen airport. You said schengen transit visa together with the final destination visa will be required if transiting more than one schengen airport. That is false. A schengen transit visa and the final destination visa is needed when transiting one schengen area while a full schengen visa as well as the final destination visa is needed when transiting more than one schengen area.

However it is goodnews that one can bypass the schengen transit visa requirement if he or she has a US Visit Visa. Even the UK airports can waive their requirement with the US Visit Visa. I rememer vividly a scenario when me and colleagues were stuck in Amsterdam enroute to Lagos and we were given an option of flying through the UK as there was no direct flight to Lagos for that day. I was able to key into that option because of my US Visit Visa but my colleagues couldnt becuase they dont have US Visa.
Your second paragraph echos my point about the mentioned final destinations that I was referring to (US, UK, EEA, Canada, Japan). So I don’t get how you arrived at the conclusion that my information is false. I repeat if you have a valid visa to these countries I mentioned, you don’t need a schengen transit visa. you will need a schengen C visa if you will transit through two schengen airport as a Nigerian with valid visa to these countries as mentioned earlier. It’s only countries like Barbados (you are seeking information for) and the likes that you will need a transit visa or C visa for depending on the type of itinerary you have.

Everything you posted here is wrong but I will address the bolded for now. A traveller need a full schengen visa and not transit visa when stopping over in 2 schengen airports. It's only when he is transiting only one schengen airport and the final destination is outside a schengen area that he will need a schengen transit visa (unless he meets the exemption requirements).

The exemption requirement is that the person should have a greencard/visa for any one of the ffg countries US or UK or Canada or Ireland or Japan or Bulgaria or Romania or the European Economic Area (EEA). Which is a tall order if you ask me.
I guess you missed the line where I stated if the traveler has a valid visa to the mentioned destination by seyewest and as mentioned also in your reply.
TravelRe: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by Lordcrixus: 8:00am On Aug 02, 2019
LegitBachelor:
See the bolded in the post you referenced. The Nigerian dont need a schengen transit visa IF he is a resident of USA, etc. or possess visa in those countries. If a Nigerian don't have a US visa (or the other countries listed) and he is not a permanent resident, he will need to get a transit visa. That's my understanding of the post you referenced.

I know this. What you posted is what obtains in many airports worldwide. But ive always known the airports in the US, UK and EU to have stricter rules when it comes to Transit Visa.
He concluded by saying if he/she has a valid visa to the final destination. A traveler will only need a transit visa if he/she will stop over in 2 schengen airports in between the itinerary as there is no border check within the schengen airports. So if you have a valid visa to those mentioned destinations and you will not be flying via any other schengen airport enroute to the final destination, then you are good to go without a transit visa.

And where was their “physical presence”, in the US? That’s is the one I’m saying is IMPOSSIBLE except someone is able to lecture me on this sha. That’s a major loophole that will hardly exist.... Your presence in the US from their records - especially with an overstay added - invariably means your visa cannot be renewed from what I understand. You guys are actually doing my head in right now, making me feel I’m the only one in the dark per a possibility!

May be not really.

I wasn't aware that the US airports now have CBP/Immigration exit control officers to cater to people leaving the US.

I am aware that the Airlines staff at the counter scans passengers passport to know if that particular passenger is authorized to be given the boarding pass to board their plane to the receiving country.
US and UK do not have exit control point, the airlines are mandated to submit details of every travelers out of the country to their border control. This is how they know who and who exited the country.
And for i94, it has been for donkey years in paper form just like you fill when you enter any UK airport, but the US just automated it(I think 2013) and it’s always available on the website.

Omobendel had explained how to do this severally on this thread. Fill a new DS-160 form with the correct information, then go to the cgi profile and input the new DS-160 code. You can now click update and print the new confirmation page.

NB: Make sure the new confirmation page carries the new DS160 code

Happy new month fam and I wish us all the blessings it brings. So, I have a couple of questions please...

1) Has any Atlanta mama gone to renew visa and granted of late? I had my baby in Atlanta in 2017, uninsured and self paid.... Total bill was a little bit over 10k but I only have receipts for 9875 here because I already got back to Naija before I got the remaining ones which were about 500 dollars and I just paid over the phone. Asides those, ive got all my receipts and itemized bill showing huge discount. Btw, I used Piedmont Atlanta hospital.

2) Now, we use Cigna Global Insurance and we can get any medical treatment anywhere in the world provided the hospital and the doctor accept the insurance. I intend using Piedmont again and fortunately, they accept this insurance, so, I’ll be going as an insured patient, (i.e no discount palaver this time around).

3) My question is this; what are my chances? I paid all my bills the first time, but still d huge discount which I didn’t know about till I got the itemized bill. Now, with our new insurance, do I stand a better of getting my Visa or I should just look for a very expensive hospital and go as a self-paying patient and present my bills later to my Cigna for a refund.

I need your help because I will be applying very soon. Thanks.
I think you are good to go, I can only answer your first query.
My wife also had our baby in Atlanta in December 2016 and I think same hospital, it used to be clearview but I think they changed to piedmont now. We paid almost 10k also, but the itemized bill shows almost 70% discount as to the 50% discount on the pre birth agreement. I will advise you go with all the receipts and then also call the providers you paid to on the phone to send the receipts to you by email or to the US address on your account, and then your host can scan and email to you. Though the itemized bill wasn’t request for during her 221g interview, I think you should also go with the pre birth agreement you signed on your first visit to the hospital.
Goodluck

It was difficult for wifey to also get an earlier date in Lagos also, that’s why she had to change post to Abuja. You can continue to call or send email, or change to Abuja if you can go through travel stress.
Good luck

Hello house,
My wife had our baby in 2016 in the US, B2 visa was obtained also in 2016. All associated fees were paid including the ones sent to the US address we gave the hospital after mother and baby had left for Nigeria. She spent a total of 15 weeks. She also traveled with the baby in 2018 and they both spent 25 days.
Visa expired in September 2018, then we decided to do Dropbox in October 2018 after madam took in again. We also applied for B2 visa and we prayed and hoped she won’t be issued a 221G. Alas after like a month, the dreaded 221G letter came. Getting a date took about two months and we kept on writing emails, making calls until it was resolved and we were finally able to schedule for Jan 8. Madam couldn’t attend the interview cos she had other appointment that came up on that same day. We had to write again to unlock receipt and the battle to find interview dates began. We waited from then till beginning of March but no favorable date as the earliest dates were in May and past her EDD.
However, we were advised to change post from Lagos to Abuja and immediately we did that, we got an interview date a week after (March 15). So madam had to fly to Abuja for the interview.
According to madam the following was her conversation with the female VO
VO: Asked question about US ( madam didn’t hear the question, she only heard the US at the end of her question).
Wife: I want to go have my second baby in the US as I had my first baby there.
VO: oh....you had your first baby in the US?
Wife: Yes, and I have the receipts of all Payment with me if you will like to see them.
VO: how much did you spend to have your baby?
Wife: I spent about 10,000$ and I have receipts with me if you will like to see
VO: yes, I will like to see them.
Wife: Passed all receipts to the VO one after the other explaining what receipt belongs to ob/gyn, hospital, pediatrician, lab tests. ( I had carefully stapled each receipt to each contract we signed the first day at the doctor and at the hospital showing how much we were required to pay as self pay. And also stapled the receipt of every lab test to the invoice). The VO checked every receipt one after the other and rechecked. According to madam, she switched on a light beside her while checking, madam doesn’t know if it is to check authenticity of the documents or to see well.
VO: are you using the same dr and hospital ?
Wife: yes
VO: how long did you spend the last time you traveled to the US?
Wife: 25 days
VO: how much will this birth cost you?
Wife: it is slightly higher than the first, about 14,000$ ( this includes flight ticket, feeding and documents)
VO: what do you do?
Wife: I am a home maker , I used to work but resigned six months after I had my baby to take good care of my child
VO: what does your husband do?
Wife: he owns coy xzy and he’s into abc
VO: can I see your bank statement?
Wife: I didn’t come with as (VO cuts her and said no problem about that) NB: I was not around to request for bank statement as changing post and getting a date was abt a week apart.
VO: do you have any relations in the US?
Wife: yes , my sis in law.
Then came the white paper
According to my wife, a lot of pink papers were flying around before her turn. Some because they couldn’t defend their past travels very well, especially the 221G folks.
Expenses breakdown are as follows:
Hospital: $5,630 ( baby stayed extra two days because of mild jaundice, it was meant to be 4078$ for self pay)
Doctor: $1,400
Pediatrician: $150 for one hospital visit at birth and then one visit to the clinic.
Anesthesiologists: $1,500 ( no receipt for this)
Lab 1: $186 (at ob/gyn)
Lab2 : $115 ( done after birth)
Lab3 : $420 ( done after birth)
Lab 4: $242 ( done after birth)
For all with 221G do not despair, go and defend yourself and pray for a favourable VO especially if you have not flouted any of their rules and overstayed your visa.
No other documents were requested not even the itemized bill with ridiculous discount. The contract the hospital gave at first stated 50% discount while itemized bill stated like 80% discount. According to my wife, VO went over the contract like four times reading and reading and was confused at a point but she didn’t request for hospital itemized bill, only drs itemized bill she sighted.
Good luck to others awaiting their 221G interview.

Please,I want to travel for medical treatment in May, if I apply now, when can I get called for an interview? Will I wait for 2 months?
Are you are a fresh applicant or you want to do dropbox?
If fresh application, the earliest interview date in Lagos is in June while in Abuja is March.
For Dropbox, you have to wait for like a month. If status change to admin processing and visa is not issued within three days, then you may be given 221g.

The 3month trip was before I came back to assume my role and then renewed via Dropbox a second time despite filling this in the Ds160 form at that time...
I think the US guys just want to know if the information they have about you is still valid and to check if you still meet the requirements for the NIV. Since you had successfully renewed your visa via Dropbox after spending three months, then I guess you shouldn’t have any problem during the interview. Mind you, question may come up as to why you spent that much time in the US, the onus is on you to defend that strongly because the VO May think you can repeat that when you are eventually issued another visa or decide to stay back.

Hi everyone;if you were previously denied and you applied again after a year, during the next interview and the VO asks “I see that you were previously denied in your last application;why were you denied ??
Please house ;what should be the best answer to such question because I know that no one clearly knows the reason why he or she is being denied because the same refusal letter is handed to everybody and yet the VO tells you that the reason is been explained in the blue paper.

Abeg gurus in the house make una gather round
Sometimes you can decode by yourself. Reflect on your last interview and check the questions where the VOnhad problems with or stopped the interview at.
Let me give you an example, my first and only interview with the US embassy was in 2014. I had a job(good one) but not married and never travelled outside of the country. After all formality question about purpose of visit, where and who I want to visit, questions about my job and salary, of which I answered. Then the lady VO asked if I was married, which I answered NO and then also ask if I had travelled outside of Nigeria which I also answered NO. Then she sat down on the stool, typed for abt 2 mins, then refusal. For me I know is travel history and family ties.
So you can try to reflect on the interview questions, the paper given is generic.
