seems we are getting our wires crossed here,im not against a free and fair election,im just showing one of the ways it can go wrong i.e its not as fool proof as you think,however you r right a country has the right to chose whomsoever they want, disenfranchised voters will disagree with you that bush won the second term though,that approach is definitely more sustainableWHEN we eventually get there, i am talking about a here and now roadmap, not something to be looked foward to in a a far off horizon

the point is if we dont have such a man,i really dont see free and fair elections being a reality,
there was always massive rigging in elections but when m.k.o abiola came along, people voted for him in overwhelming numbers, even rigging couldnt prevent him winning because he was accepted by all the tribes,same as oshiomole who won against the might of pdp political machinery.
you seem to be forgetting that the whole problem is not isolated but run like an efficient network?you r over simplifying it,if you think its as easy as citizens of a state coming together and having a free and fair election, do you realise that in any state in nigeria,if you are contesting against a pdp man,all the arsenal both monetary and otherwise will be channeled at you?

other governors and leaders from outside the states will support the candidate against you,so its not in isolation as you are inferring,
you are also forgetting that within these states,theres mistrust even amongst their citizens,which cannot be eradicated untill such a man as i have been advocating forfires up their collective zeal,
to buttress my point i gave you an example of pentecostal preachers,who have been able to do such a thing, pastor adeboye was named as one of the top 50 most influential in the world, millions,both rich and poor listen to him,imagine such a man emerging from the secular part of nigeria,that is my stance

i laugh is totally right in my own opinionb, he doesnt mean bandying the slogan around but actually believeing in it not just in word but in practise, and yes i can is a life changing phrase if applied to everything one does, as it inspires confidence and a go getting attitude

while im not disputing the fact,however you must realise that the impediment to all these utopian dreams(at least while the system is the way it is presently)is the collective cynism,ethnic and religious dis harmony that has pervaded the nation , the solution to this is an individual that ll tear down the walls of ethnic distrust,religious hatred,cynicism,defeatist attitudes e.t.c also that ll be able to inspire and ignite our patriotism, i beleive even after that person has served his/her term and retired or went on to do other things,he ll have started a movement that ll outlive him, look at the action of a random girl uzoma okere and the fevour it generated in nigerians both in nigeria and abroad?

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state is to spend N37.7 billion this year, on fixing bad roads and constructing new ones, in the state.


The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has been given the mandate to spend the money on renewal of infrastructure in the state, which is its capital expenditure for this year.

The Office of Works in the Ministry will spend N5 billion to execute its projects this year, while the Office of Infrastructure has N32.7 billion to spend on projects this year.

Speaking on this development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson, told P.M.News that, part of the N37.7 billion would be spent on expanding the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to a 10-lane road.

He said work on the road would commence between now and March, this year, saying plans are on to ensure that the project is executed. Johnson said further that the construction of the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge was paramount in the scheme of work of the government and work will soon commence on the bridge.

The Special Adviser added that all ongoing projects would be completed this year. Some of the projects, he said, include the completion of the Murtala Mohammed Way, Yaba, being handled by PWD; some road networks at Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Orile-Coker and another road in Apapa, being executed by Julius Berger.

“We intend to complete some major projects in Alimosho too. That is what we are going to focus on this year. We are also looking at the completion of the Okota-Itire link bridge project, which is a major one,” he stated.

Fashola has said that there was no way his administration could provide low-cost houses for Lagosians. “There are no low-cost houses and there are no low-cost cement. Houses are built on mortgage and insurance elsewhere.

“If we build houses that are cheap, Lagosians are not cheap. We want to build houses with mortgage scheme,” he stated. Meanwhile, the Yitzhak Rabin Centre for African Development has named governor Fashola The Best Governor of the Decade.

Conferring the award on Fashola yesterday, Mr. Blessing Ogini, President of the international centre named after Yitzhak Rabin, former Israeli Prime Minister, said Fashola got the award because he has continued to build bridges for others to cross. He said Fashola is walking in the footpath of Rabin, who was known to be an ambassador of peace in the Middle-East.

Ogini stated that in the last one decade, no governor in Nigeria could match the pace of Fashola in the area of the development of infrastructure.

“A true democrat and leader has emerged in Nigeria. We are willing to promote programmes in the area of agriculture in Lagos state,” he stated. Accepting the award, Fashola said he dedicates it to the 18 million Lagosians who had stood by him in his quest to govern and take the state to greater heights.

“I accept and dedicate the award to the 18 million Lagosians who made this possible. I feel really honoured and associated with the award,” he said. Fashola described Rabin as a man of peace, saying that it was sad that his legacy was being destroyed by the raging war between Israel and Palestine, in the Middle East.

“What we must do is to find a more civilized way of resolving conflict. We have moved from the stone age, we must leave behind and find new ways of resolving conflict.

“Why should we lose lives over land that we did not create?” he queried. In another development, the governor has disclosed that streets in the state will soon be free of social miscreants, popularly known as area boys.

The governor made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with PM.News, at the departure lounge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), Ikeja, Lagos, yesterday, while travelling on an official assignment. Fashola revealed that his administration’s policy is to get rid of area boys by creating employment for them in the state.

He said he cannot be specific on when all this will take place, as it is a gradual process. “We cannot say that it will happen today or tomorrow. We will not just throw them out. Some of them are educated but there is no job for them to do,” Fashola said.

He said many of them have already been employed to work in the various projects going on in the state, adding that this has reduced their presence on the streets. The governor further disclosed that area boys with drug-related problems will be rehabilitated at some designated centres and re-integrated into the society.

what is there to deduce other than the fact that,if you spend millions installing traffic lights and street lights in lagos without adequate protection,i bet you the next month all the bulbs are gone and anything useful as well from the installation, isnt it sensible to install the foundation like your analogy i.e protection for the installations then you can now repair and install after security is sorted,

will you start keeping money in a bank,without sorting the security out first?

I do not want to get into what I have done but i can let you know that I have done something and I actually left as a result of the fact that I noticed that most Nigerians would rather continue in the same attitudes that got us into poverty. I could have left immediately after my secondary education or at any time for that matter but I chose to stay in Nigeria. a)it will be installed in blacks spots, meaning crimes like one chance,vandalism of government  property,muggings and rapes, kidnapps and ritual killings e.t.c will have a fighting chance of being monitored, if you are familiar with criminal behavior, ill suggest you flick through the chicago school, criminals who operate in an area do so regularly i.e they wont operate in ikeja today then migrate to victoria island, they tend to stick to their regular watering holes,especially the types of crime i v listed above,meaning the cctv will capture the major and minor criminals in these black spots and they ll be easier to aprehend,
also imagine the countl;ess cases of ritual killings and kidnappings,are you saying the cctv will not prove as a deterrent?
