Kikuyu1, it amazes me that the East African Community is the most economically integrated region on our continent, despite the prevalence of so many disputes between individual members. Uganda v Rwanda, Kenya v Tanzania, Burundi v everybody, Tanzania v Rwanda. In addition, how does Tanzania square being a member of both EAC and SADC? For example, when a SADC Free Trade Treaty eventually materialises, how will Tanzania ensure goods from SADC aren't passed on tariff-free on to the rest of EAC? https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2022-01-28-rwanda-to-re-open-border-with-uganda-as-relations-thaw/?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1643394727 |
Kikuyu1, what's that we were saying about Moz paying $220K for Marauders? The US Army paid GM $235K for this Chevrolet. 2 reports by Army testing centres slamming the vehicle, and after each one, an increase in orders, at the same unit price -no economies of scale here! Ike was eerily prescient!

jl115:Please don't. Lilliputians thinking they're Brobdingnagians are best left to their delusions. |
In Mozambique the Rwandans are doing much heavy lifting not the South Africans who only carry out some specialized operations. ![]() Facts are swayed neither by feelings nor delusions. I have noticed a lot of things about South africa and South Africans, they seems to worship/accept anything West without objections or critical thinking.People really should apprise themselves of facts, before pulling stuff out of their arses on the internet. The US State Department publishes a report annually, detailing which countries vote with or against the US at the United Nations, and on what issues. People interested in facts, can read the reports here: https://www.state.gov/voting-practices-in-the-united-nations/ |
Augubugub, I'm sorry you have an inferiority complex and think north African Arabs are better than you. I'm sorry you've created so many monikers here, each with fake professions. Do you remember the time your different monikers would have conversations with each other? Seek help, dear boy. P.S. stop trying to make this about my being South African. |
Uganda commissions helicopter MRO facility Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned a helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility, which is refurbishing Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Mi-24 helicopters. The facility was formally opened by Museveni at Nakosongola Air Base on 22 January. It is a joint venture by the UPDF’s commercial arm, the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), and Pro-heli International, a Russian company. According to Pro-heli, the company has been partnering with Uganda since 2016. Its core products and services are the overhaul of Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters. “This overhaul is fully certified and gives the same TBO [time between overhaul] and extension of the service life as any plant in Russia.” Pro-heli also sells and orders spares and executes “all types of routine maintenance according to the technical specifications of the manufacturer.” The company can also modernise or upgrade Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters. During the commissioning, Museveni said the MRO facility will be developed into a hub not only for the entire East African Region including United Nations Missions that use Russian helicopters, but for the entire continent. He added that it will save Uganda a lot of money, as it cost around $3.5 million to transport and overhaul a single helicopter outside of Uganda. Uganda is making great strides in growing its military industrial base and becoming more independent. NEC, in partnership with the United Arab Emirates’ Streit Group, will soon be opening an armoured vehicle factory (NEC-Streit Uganda Ltd). In August 2018 Uganda officially launched an Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing and Assembly Facility in Maga Maga. Its first product was the Mamba-based Nyoka armoured personnel carrier, created in collaboration with South Africa’s Twiga Services and Logistics via its Ugandan sister company Impala Services and Logistics. In October 2021, the UPDF commissioned the locally manufactured Chui (Leopard) infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), which is based on Twiga’s recently launched Nyati. The Chui is manufactured by the Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing and Assembly Facility. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/military-helicopters/uganda-commissions-helicopter-mro-facility/

Algeria takes delivery of first of four C-130J Super Hercules The Algerian Air Force has received the first of four C-130J-30 Super Hercules transports ordered from Lockheed Martin in 2018. The US Embassy in Algiers said on 23 January that the first aircraft had been delivered that day. It added that Algeria’s contract for four aircraft includes an option for four more. The Algerian Air Force already operates C-130H and C-130H-30 Hercules transports, which are in service with the 2ème Escadre de Transport Tactique et Logistique at Boufarik air base. Nine C-130H and four C-130H-30 transports are believed to be operational, along with a single L100-30. They have been in service since the early 1980s but two have been lost in crashes. Other transports in service include half a dozen C295s, half a dozen Il-76TDs and numerous smaller Beech 1900Ds and Super King Airs. Algeria is the second C-130J Super Hercules operator in Africa after Tunisia received two aircraft in 2013 and 2014. Twenty other nations around the world operate the type, while Germany, Indonesia, and New Zealand will also receive Super Hercules in the near future. Although unconfirmed, Algeria is believed to have recently ordered four Ilyushin Il-76MD-90 transports. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/aerospace-aerospace/algeria-takes-delivery-of-first-of-our-c-130j-super-hercules/

Isn't it sad that someone so invested in "giant this, giant that", manifests so ridiculous an inferiority complex. Spreading his butt cheeks for the north Africans when the city of Lagos has a bigger economy than Tunisia! Augubugub aka Covert1 aka however many identities you create here, it's 2021, give it a rest. Funny thing is your geopolitical analysis -without the neurosis - is actually really good. |

jl115:The real Egyptian economy is hardly worth talking about. Their massive military arsenal comes to a screeching halt should they not spread the butt cheeks well enough for their sugar daddies. That's why I rank the Algerians higher. |
jl115:No way we are ahead of Algeria. Yes our sophistication of economy, level of industrialisation, available manpower of fighting age is miles ahead, but all that is cancelled out by not only the sheer size of their military, but also how modern and logistically rational it (Algerian military) all is. Personally, I rank it thus: 1. Algeria; 2. Egypt; 3. South Africa; 4. Nigeria; 5. Morocco. |

kikuyu1:When SADC Special Forces started joint annual exercises, the Zambians realised their 1 Commando Battalion wasn't up to standard. So they brought people down to SASF Brigade for Selection, and for instructors to observe the training cycle. They then employed Chute to develop doctrine, offer airborne training and supply equipment. In fact, just saw an article that says prior to Chute establishing facilities in-country, the Zambians were taken to Chute run facilities in Botswana. |
kikuyu1, didn't know you guys also employ Chute Systems?
