kabe1:Strange sanctions these...that Nigeria can receive some Russian equipment but not others ![]() |

Attaching a press report doesn't really answer the question. These are the African countries who've received Russian military equipment since CAATSA was signed into law: Algeria Angola Central African Republic Cote d'Ivoire Egypt Ethiopia Equatorial Guinea Mali Mozambique Nigeria Sudan. |
I much prefer SVI Engineering's latest offering, the Max 9 APC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhlw529ZI_0

I'm really impressed with the guys at SVI Engineering! SVI enhances MAX 3 armoured vehicle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_39G2hz_rE

kabe1:It can't just be a sanctions problem. The sanctions target specific individuals and their companies. How do you explain Egypt, Algeria and others receiving equipment they bought in Russia? Algeria receives additional Migs. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/aerospace-aerospace/algeria-receives-additional-mig-29s/ |
kabe1:How many vessels has Paramount now delivered to Nigeria? |
Ken006:Ghana just contracted with the Israelis for the 8x8 platform, so not them. Ethiopia is at loggerheads with Turkey over Ankara's push into Somalia. |
fachfouch:Apparently they tested both cobra 1 and Cobra II. It's the Cobra 1 they rejected. My money is still on Tunisia. Anyway, we'll know soon enough. |
LTGEN:Friends in Turkey say it's Tunisia. |
kabe1:In 1995, SAS Drakensberg, on her voyage home after participating in exercises with 25 other ships in the US, visited Tema, Ghana. In 2011, SAS Drakensberg again called on Tema, Ghana to pre-position Oryx helicopters, Special Forces and other equipment in case the deteriorating situation in Cote d'Ivoire necessitated the evacuation of the embassy there. |
kabe1:The point is this: "in combat" is incorrect. |
kabe1:Is that Gen Buratai in the black? If so, what would an Army Chief of Staff be doing "in combat"? |
jln115:Few weeks?... ![]() |
jln115:The shootings occurred Tuesday night, and hundreds marched on the Nigerian embassy in Pretoria on Wednesday in response. Thursday saw hundreds converge on Parliament in Cape Town. It's all over the news. |
jln115:They took to the streets here in SA specifically in response to the shootings, dickhead ![]() |
jln115:Gosh, where have you been the last few days? Nigerian citizens living in RSA protested at their embassy in Pretoria and at Parliament in Cape Town. Wednesday and Thursday, I think it was. |
kabe1:Do you mean the 6x6? The 8x8 is likely to be the Singaporean Terrex 2, which Elbit markets as the Sentinel, pictured on my original post. As yet, no info for the 6x6. |
Well done Ghana! "Ghana’s Parliament approved $86,1 million in government loans to fund acquisition of 19 armoured vehicles from Israel’s Elbit Land Systems. In terms of the agreement, Elbit Land Systems will supply nine 8×8 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) equipped with Elbit Systems UT30 30 mm remotely operated turrets. The order includes ten 6×6 IFVs fitted for reconnaissance operations. The acquisition will help Ghana’s military realise long-delayed establishment of two new armoured regiments to be based in Sunyani and Tamale. In August, the Ghanaian Army elevated 2 Independent Reconnaissance Squadron of the 153 Armoured Regiment to create the 154 Armoured Regiment. The 153 Armoured Regiment is set to remain under GAF Central Command in Sunyani when the new 154 Regiment moves north to Tamale to provide armour support to GAF Northern Command in Tamale. Planning is underway for the establishment of the GAF 155 Armoured Regiment. The establishment of GAF armoured units is delayed by a lack of funds, logistic equipment and weapons platforms."

Let's try this again: All these deadly ambushes are a logical consequence of the "Super Camp Strategy". Here's why: 1) Super Camps naturally lead to giving up ground to the enemy; "what you do not patrol, you do not control". 2) Troops garrisoned in Super Camps have more ground to cover in their patrols; making them more vulnerable to ambushes. 3) The enemy has all the time in the world to build a better intelligence picture to mount its ambushes. 4) The longer distances covered by patrols means more stress on logistics; this creates a vicious cycle as the NA ostensibly gave up its FOBs because of logs challenges. 5) More of the civilian population is left at the mercy of the enemy; more taxes, more witting and unwitting recruits, more supplies and resources etc. Conclusion: All of this could've been avoided. Better constructed, better defended and better supplied FOBs. Super Camps (located on Sector HQs) could have been used to support say 5 FOBs. |
jln115: ![]() You and chkil1 must stop spreading lies! 4 torpedo tubes means 4 torpedoes carried! ![]() |
BabaOwen:Enough with this canard! Middlemen showing up at an airport with a planeload of cash to meet with other middlemen is NOT how a government buys weapons. Not a single South African defence company reported being in negotiations with the Nigerian government at the time. That's why the cash was seized and later returned to the Nigerian government. |
Ye gods! Every single operator of the REVA APC swears by it...except some armchair privates on Nairaland. Hell, even the failed state of Somalia maintains its Revas against Al-Shabaab. But no, let's blame the tool, not the operator, despite evidence elsewhere. |
