MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - At about 10.40 one morning last August, Mohammed Abul Barra rammed his ash-coloured station wagon into a security gate outside the United Nations headquarters in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, knocking it off its hinges. Barra's 1996 Honda Accord then crashed through the main building's glass doors and slammed against the reception desk. https://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/IR75Ri7y9_YsjiL5WbguRw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Y2g9MzM4O2NyPTE7Y3c9NDUwO2R4PTA7ZHk9MDtmaT11bGNyb3A7aD0xNDM7cT04NTt3PTE5MA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/Reuters/2012-01-31T104138Z_2_BTRE80U0SZA00_RTROPTP_2_NIGERIA-BOKOHARAM.JPG On security tapes of the incident seen by Reuters, a guard peers into the car, evidently unaware that it is packed with explosives. The grainy footage shows a dozen or so people in the reception edge towards the vehicle. Over 10 seconds pass in confusion before one man seemingly realises what is about to happen. He grabs the person next to him and darts towards the lift. But it's too late. Barra steadies himself, leans forward and the security screens blur into white fuzz. The suicide strike left 25 people dead and the U.N. headquarters in tatters. It also drew global attention to Boko Haram, the militant group from northern Nigeria which has claimed responsibility for the attack and a string of bombings since then that has killed hundreds. As the bombings have grown in frequency in recent months, the Nigerian government and Western security officials have begun to grapple with the exact nature of the threat. Is Boko Haram just the latest in a long list of violent spasms in Nigeria, or is it the next battalion of global jihadists, capable of thrusting Africa's most populous nation into civil war? The answer to that is not simple. There is evidence - some of it detailed in this story for the first time - that elements of Boko Haram have received training from foreign militant groups, including North Africa-based al Qaeda in the Islamic Magreb (AQIM). The August attack was far more sophisticated than anything linked to Boko Haram before. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan calls the group a terrorist organisation with global ambitions. In an interview in his presidential villa last week, Jonathan said there was "no doubt" Boko Haram has links with jihadist groups outside Nigeria. General Carter Ham, the head of the U.S. military's Africa Command, said last year Boko Haram posed a threat to U.S. and Western interests. At the same time, Boko Haram remains firmly focused on domestic Nigerian issues. When its secretive spokesman claims responsibility for attacks, he almost always lists local grievances that have little to do with the core ideologies of al Qaeda. The group's name means "Western education is sinful" in Hausa, the language spoken in northern Nigeria, the country's Muslim heartland. But its anger is directed not at America or Europe but at Nigeria's elites: at their perceived arrogance, their failure to deliver services, and the brutality of their security forces. Many Boko Haram members say their focus is on targeting officials who have locked up its members or misused state funds. Even Nigeria's national security adviser, General Owoye Azazi, who sees a link between Boko Haram and AQIM, urges caution in defining the group. "We need to tackle Boko Haram from several perspectives," Azazi said in an interview. "If you go back to history, there are religious concerns, there are concerns about governance, and of course, political implications. It's a combination of so many things." read the rest here http://www.igbolandforum.com/index.php?topic=1012.0 |

Republic of BIAFRA is a REALITY! “What had started as a belief was transmuted to total conviction; that they could never again live with Nigerians. From this stems the primordial political reality of the present situation. Biafra cannot be killed by anything short of total eradication of the people who make her. For even under total occupation Biafra would sooner or without Colonel Ojukwu, rise up again.” The Biafra Story Frederick Forsyth "Surely, when a whole people is rejected by the majority of the state in which they live, they must have the right to live under a different kind of arrangement which does secure their existence. States are made to serve people; governments are established to protect the citizens of a state against external enemies and internal wrong doers." President Julius Nyerere Biafra, Human Rights and Self determination in Africa. April 13, 1968 (Dar es Salam) We, “The Igbo Coalition in the Americas”, want to alert you about a serious humanitarian issue, the immense injustice that has befallen our peace loving, God fearing population, a people steeped in the Judea Christian and democratic values, the Igbo (or Ibo) nation in Nigeria. Nigeria is at a crossroad again and as usual the Igbo nation is the scape goat. There is a concerted effort by Islamic extremists and Islamic political leaders in the Feudal Moslem North to subjugate the Igbo nation. This plot is openly and enthusiastically supported by such countries as Iran, Libya and Sudan. To Muslim extremists, the Igbo nation is the only force that stands between them and the total Islamization of West Africa. We, the Igbo people have suffered many pogroms in the past. We are the survivors of the most brutal genocidal massacres ever unleashed in Africa, south of the Sahara. We have paid an immense prize at the hands of Moslem radicals who consider the Igbo nation as the most despicable of infidels outside of the Republic of Israel. In the past 50 years, more than 5 million Igbo people have died in pogroms, wars and massacres designed to “teach the Igbo a lesson”. For our rich Judea-Christian and democratic values, many Moslems regard us Igbo as little better than vermin, worthy of the most brutal treatment. To illustrate the urgency of our plight, below is a small snapshot of a few of the pogroms and acts of genocidal slaughter that the Igbo have suffered in Nigeria since 1945: http://www.igbolandforum.com/index.php?topic=1009.0 |

Kano — The Imo State Governor Chief Rochas Okorocha has said that all the phone calls and text messages sent to the East that Igbo indigenes living in Kano were massacred in Kano during the last Friday series of bomb blasts were false and baseless rumors that have no basis. Okorocha told Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso that he was personally disturbed at the rate of phone calls and text messages that were sent to the east that many soles of Igbo people were killed in the multiple bomb blasts of Kano which necessitated his visit to see for himself. The Imo governor noted that on his arrival he went to Sabon Gari where many of his people live, ' but after going round and meeting with virtually everybody all of them denied that the story of killings of Igbo people were cooked for unknown reason, as such they are baseless and unfounded'. He said already he had directed that all those that have started running away to stay behind as there was no basis for their leaving Kano, as the government of Kwankwaso is doing all it could to ensure the safety of all the non indigenes and the teeming people of the state. He said that Igbo's were assets not only to themselves to the nation wherever they go. "Igbos are never a threat to anybody because what concerns an Igbo man is his business, that is why they should be seen as brothers not enemies', he said. He said Nigeria is facing a more fundamental and challenging period that requires all its citizenry to come together and solve them, he said they must see themselves as their brothers' keepers not enemies as some want to see them. He urged the federal government to provide more security to Kano because of its population and cosmopolitan nature, just as he urged Kwankwaso to give more priority in times of security to areas like Sabon Gari so that non indigenes should feel safe and at home. He assured that Nigeria would come out with a more brighter future from the challenges they are facing, '"but this does not mean we should fold our arms and leave the evil ones among us to continue to control our lives, we have to do something to stop them." Meanwhile the wife of the vice President Amina Namadi Sabo wept at the Emir of Kano palace while talking about the unfortunate Friday bombings that pervaded Kano. She said what had happened was not acceptable as such government will do all it could to arrest the situation from reoccurring. http://www.igbolandforum.com/index.php?topic=1005.0 http://www.champion.com.ng/displaycontent.asp?pid=15378 |

He also suffered fractures to his skull, cheekbones, and nose, three cracked ribs and horrific burns on his arm from an iron at the hands of his ex-girlfriend. Joy Bola, 38, from Ogun state, who is now in detention awaiting trial for causing grievous bodily harm, also lit cigarettes and shoved them up her partner’s nose after falsely accusing him of having an affair. On one occasion, she also poured two kettles full of boiling water over him - and even attacked him with a vacuum cleaner. chidi, who is now preparing for the surgery, said: 'It was between Christmas and New Year (in 2006) when she first accused me of having an affair with one of her friends. 'This was the first time she lashed out. 'She punched me in the face and I had a black eye.' Bola begged him for forgiveness, saying it was just a one-off and soon moved into his flat at Mushin, Lagos state. However a few weeks later she launched another attack with the vacuum cleaner. chidi recalled: 'She began ranting and raving about previous partners of mine. 'Then, all of a sudden, she switched the vacuum cleaner off, grabbed the nozzle and whacked me across the face with it. I could feel my cheek split.' This was the first of many outbursts of domestic violence from the then 34-year-old and the attacks got progressively worse. alhaja , sincerely census might be a joke, but this is wat the published, then an insider in the LCB lagos census burea, during an interview with the sun newspaper reveal it. i dount if he is lying ? but that is wat he said. |
you guys are funny, do u think these Igbos went to North becos the luv the weather ? abi na the mallams ? Igbos are in the North becos they see an opportunity there. In adamawa , in some local government there is no hospital nothing , there only source of medication will be an Igbo man selling chemist. now this Igbo man is tantamount to a doctor , a life saver, this igbo man may be a low-life in the east but will go to that north and be a doctor, administering drugs and everything. that opportunity is not in the east. i know many chemists that has built edifice from "chemist in the north" business. |
are u stupid or being funny? in the last census, lagos state conducted a parallel census with the FG one with ethnicity as part of it. Igbo came up to 44% with Yorubas 43 % . but was manipulated, saying some water line areas wasnt comprehensively covered , their mathematics then produced the 46 abi 44% yoruba , 42% igbos. go figure. |
Igbo are 42% percent of Lagos as well, though 44 but was reduced to 42 by tinubu. Abuja 67.8 @ 2007 |
