bigfrancis21: You lack common sense. Nollywood movies are English-Igbo movies just as they are Nigerian movies and equally African movies. However, their concept of 'Nigerianess' doesn't necessarily mean they include yoruba or hausa movies. An Igbo is a Nigerian just as a Yoruba or Hausa is Nigerian, however Igbo is not Yoruba, just as Yoruba is not Hausa.
It is plain common sense.
see who says I lack common sense
why do you keep dodging my questions? answer them are Super Story and Papa Ajasco "Nigerian" or English-Yoruba?
I guess Figurine - a movie with yoruba theme is Igbo because they spoke english? Cus I know it's not Yoruba. ..not until you gimme the language same as the Igbo themed movies. ..
I guess Mirror boy is Igbo? 30 days in Atlanta is Igbo? Ay must be an Igbo man to produce and act an English movie Phone swap (which I can't remember any igbo involved) must be igbo because they spoke english guy you are really dull
back to ur little main argument... you just lack the understanding of literature, because it has an Igbo setting, Yoruba setting doesn't make it Igbo and yoruba respectively
i must add that most movies wit igbo themes lack quality unlike when something like that is done on Yoruba, Bini or calabar (twins of the rain forest comes to mind - this movie's lead roles were even acted by Yorubas and directed by an Edo man)
keep living in ur tiny world of "the snake in the palace" sequel to "royal reptiles"
bigfrancis21: At least he's being reasonable. Why trying to force your needless self on English-Igbo movies as if Nollywood needs yoruba actors and actresses for relevance? Nollywood has proven itself self-reliant and independent of any tribe or man whatsoever by propelling itself to great heights and number 2 or 3 in the entire world. No other movie industry in Nigeria could do this until the Igbos stepped in and the game changed. Yorubas had since 1960s till today to make sway of their movie industry. What have they been able to come up with since then? What exactly?
Wale Adenuga is right. Yoruba actors are not part of Nollywood. Nollywood can be likened to a company formed by someone, which happened to overtake previously established companies and has achieved worldwide success. Other smaller 'companies' could choose to merge with it or stand independent in their small market circle. Nollywood refers to the initiative and foresight taken by an individual who saw business potentials in the venture that took the Igbo movie industry to greater heights, at a time when other movie industries were barely thinking beyond mediocrity. Yoruba actors can distance themselves, Nollywood needs them not. You hardly hear Nollywood members nor actors and actresses calling out on Yoruba actors and actresses. It is always the ANTP yoruba members calling out Nollywood at every little instance.
Yoruba actors and actresses are the ones desperately dying for success and attention of Nollywood, because they barely have it. Despite Wale's 'outstanding' fame as some people would have us believe, one can tell his level of frustration at not being as recognized by greater Nollywood to have degraded himself to engaging in tribalistic tirade against Nollywood. It is not surprising. Kunle Afolayan vented out his own anger previously. Now its Wale Adenuga. It seems that all major yoruba movie producers are greatly frustrated by the greater Nollywood's seeming influence and dominance everywhere. At every nook and cranny, Alaba Igbo boys will continue to serve as a reminder of the actual owners and creators of Nollywood.
you have no regard for truth at all. ..look how you lie so happily
I guess Kunle Afolayan, Ramsey Noah, Desmond Elliot, Omotola, Joke silver, Ini Edo, Mercy Johnson, Imeh Umoh, Funke Akindele, Olu Jacobs, Lancelot Imaseun, Rmd, Wale Adenuga are igbo
listen everyone complains of the Igbo boys who indulge in piracy and the it's cus of the lack of good measures taken by the AGN, you don't see Yoruba movies handled by Yorubas involved in such criminality ..
Visit youtube for more of such videos for your education pleasure.
and I realized you love poking the Yoruba for fun
with all this your running around the Internet (as you normally do leaving out common sense, as your world exist only in the Internet) you didn't address my posts
is it right to call Prince of Persia a Persian movie because of its Persian theme? or call Super Story a Yoruba drama because of its yoruba theme? take note Super story is acted and produced by Yorubas. ..many other TV dramas too. . in fact Yoruba run the popular Television dramas do we call them Yoruba dramas due to that? answer to yourself sincerely
simply get rid of this your ethnic bigotry it does you no good
bigfrancis21: Wale Adenuga claims Yorubas are not part of Nollywood, meanwhile you are here trying to force yourself on Nollywood movies acted and produced by Igbos in English language with mostly Igbo cultural theme and background. Your level of comprehension is outstanding, I must commend you.
he claims yoruba movies are not part of nollywood because they began before this idea of nollywood
bigfrancis21: There is no gainsaying the simple fact. The same Nollywood produces English and Igbo movies currently under the body of AGN (Actors Guild of Nigeria) aka the Igbo movie industry. ANTP is in charge of the Yoruba speaking movies.
I have often seen fellow yoruba nairalanders constantly refer to English-speaking movies as Igbo movies and deride Igbos for speaking English in their movies rather than Igbo. One minute the movies are 'Ibo' movies, the next minute the movies are ' Nigerian' movies.
How surprising, Wale Adenuga does not share in your all-conclusive view of Nollywood-Igbo movies as 'Nigerian' but rather sees yoruba and hausa movies as separate from Nollywood? Can you explain that?
You see the bold is what you should sit and think deep to comprehend
English spoken movies are NOT IGBO MOVIES but Nigerian movies, there are many non igbos involved in such movies...let's have a movie with igbos speaking igbo in igboland (or anywhere)
and why should I take should nairalanders fallacies to heart
excuse me! I never said Nollywood igbo movies are not Igbo...I said Nollywood English movies are not igbo. ..very simple to understand really, I don't know why it's giving you such a hard time
bigfrancis21: Knowing super story does not mean they all necessarily know the producer. It would be fallacious to even think that. We watch tons of movies every time without barely knowing who the producer is.
I am not here to argue with you about Wale Adenuga's popularity. Emeka Ike, Kunle Afolayan etc. are 10 times way more popular than him. If Wale remains popular in your tiny little world, so be it.
Or perhaps, he is merely poking at a more popular figure such as Emeka Ike to gain attention for himself.
lmao the same super story that his name is announced at the beginning and at the end of every episode aired allover West africa to South Africa
I still say anyone who thinks Wale Adenuga isn't popular lives in a bush without knowledge of Nigerian Television. .I don't know why you keep bringing up Kunle and Emeka
how does this explain your tagging English spoken movies as igbo? you still haven't addressed this simple detail
try understanding the various examples I gave about Prince of Persia (Persian Cultural Theme) produced and acted by Americans and Europeans and Super story produced and acted by mostly Yorubas. Am very sure nobody calls super story a yoruba drama even in the face of the yoruba theme in several seasons
You don't need to quote some irrelevant stuff jst COMPREHEND
bigfrancis21: To be honest, Wale Adenuga isn't as popular as you think he is. I only know him because of 'Superstory' I used to watch as a kid.
Infact I had to think for a few seconds to recall who he was when I read the thread's title.
Don't overblow his popularity beyond proportions. Among the Yorubas, I think Kunle Afolayan is more popular than him.
and how are you a standard for 150million Nigerians? at least you know him, at least you know one of his work
Ghanaian stations show his work, he has a TV channel Cameroun knows super story... in fact anyone anywhere in the world that knows Nigerian television knows Wale Adenuga
bigfrancis21: English because the actors speak English and Igbo because the elements of culture portrayed in the background and the actors/actresses thereof are Igbo, coupled with Igbo words used here and there such as 'igwe', 'nna anyi', 'biko' etc.
first of all not every movie contains igbo cultural theme 2nd, you talk as if only igbo people act English spoken movies regardless the theme. .. going away from the Igbo cultural theme, there are tons of English spoken movies with yoruba theme
would it be intelligent for anyone to say super story and Papa Ajasco are Yoruba drama? because it contains mostly yoruba cultural theme doesn't make it yoruba.. its simply Nigerian... until you make it into Yoruba language
how many American/British movies containing Egyptian or Persian (Take prince of Persia for example) Themes are called English Persian movie?
Keep thinking and keep making no sense... Like I said earlier Emeka Ike should forget about the man because he is already useless in Nollywood if he can't contribute in its vision...
The man is only but an attention seeker... Nollywood is blazing hot... Ghanaians are cruising it, so is the rest of the world...
if you don't understand what I posted there then you have comprehension problems. ..try working on it
NOBLEDANDY: Who is he ?? Why don't they talk about him here in Anambra...? We only know of Nollywood here...
Bleep the man... He should leave tribalism aside so he can thrive..
I think what the man meant was "yoruba and hausa spoken movies" are not part of the "nollywood" idea Emeka Ike is accused of claiming there are many yoruba people involved in English spoken movies, just as there are "calabar" people and many others
oh! and if you really don't know Wale Adenuga then you live in a bush cus even in Ghana and Cameroun he is known
CSTR2: Well , nollywood is the biggest entertainment industry in africa. The "yorubawood "and "hausawood " don't even come close. Emeka ike must be a true visionary.
the same Emeka Ike who has starred in a few Yoruba speaking Movies?
WTF is yorubawood and hausawood? is that official? is there also an Igbowood?
NOBLEDANDY: The man should go and die... Why didn't he pioneer it when Emeka Ike was in school... Emeka Ike making a visionary move and yet another man wants to be accorded its credit.. Mehn let the man rot alive...
The man is just useless since he can contribute into the visions of Nollywood...
are u sure u are ok? Wale Adenuga useless? ? the man who runs the most famous Arts institution in Nigeria. .the man who produces Nigeria's greatest family drama?
bigfrancis21: The facet of Nigerian movie industry as we know it today that is popular worldwide is the movie section that started off originally as an Igbo language movie industry. In the 80s, Igbo language movies were produced such as Ahanna. The Yorubas had begun acting in the 60s but their genre was theatrical arts and acting. The Igbos were to start much later, in the 80s. Living in Bondage was the Igbo language movie that kick-started what is known as Nollywood today. The movie gained nationwide acceptance and allure, upon which nigeria's movie industry was built. In the mid 90s, producers and actors decided to switch to speaking English to keep up with the new found demand for their movies and to accommodate non-Igbo speaking actors and actresses.
In effect, 'Nollywood' refers specifically to the English-Igbo speaking movie industry of Nigeria. Kannywood and Yorubawood service the hausa and yoruba speaking sections of Nigeria respectively, and are barely known beyond their regions.
The success and worldwide fame of nollywood today is attributed to the Igbos, and that fact cannot be denied no matter how hard one tries to. Nollywood is safely in the hands of Alaba Igbo boys cartel who run Nollywood. When certain Yorubas complain of piracy of their movies, the Alaba boys are only reminding them of the actual owners of Nollywood.
I'm not sure of this but I've read somewhere that Yoruba movie producers are not permitted to produce English-speaking movies, except by approval by the top committee of Nollywood. They are to stick only to producing Yoruba language movies, which only sell within Yoruba-speaking areas, and thus a much smaller consumer base than the greater English-Igbo movie industry, which is a business strategy that effectively ensures that the Yoruba-speaking movie industry remains fairly static financially and growth wise compared to the Igbo-English movie industry. Several Yoruba actors and actresses fare poorly financially compared to their English-Igbo speaking counterparts due to the limited growth and finance of their movie industry.
this thread is proof that we have problem in this country
look at all these Bastards you don't know something as basic as Tiro (Yoruba eye makeup) and so what if it's charm? did ur great grand fathers not use charm
christianity has really destroyed the youths, brainless bunch of morons
