The Joyluck Club- Amy Tan Innocent Blood- PD James |
The best thing about that country, is how almost everything works. Public officials do their jobs, and there isn't any 'give me kola' sucking up in their attitude in dealing with the public. We have a lot to learn from that country. And to think, only a few decades ago, we were playing host and then mandating them to return to their country. Guesss that worked out for them all right. |
Same titles I've always been hooked on. Legion of Superheroes, DC's best comic IMO, but no longer what it used to be. Batman,Teen Titans, Justice League, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc. I order them online mostly. Finished BATMAN: RIP. Waiting for The Aftermath, where a dying Alfred tells the story of Bruce Wayne's early years. |
iice says she won. Wow. I had no idea. Attagirl Weitz! |
lynxnoon: ![]() |
Ah. I wandered off to the Family section, where people fight over hypothetical posts. What would you do if you discovered your mother was a prostitute What would you if your husband said you must stay home home What would you if you woke up and discovered you'd grown another head It was Conelly. She won best supporting actress for her turn as Crowe's wife in A Beautiful Mind. The incredible performance in that movie was Crowe's. |
A serious DC fan all my life, though I do dabble in Marvel from time to time. Crisis on Infinite Earth rocked me and kept me in a blue funk for long time. DC heartlessly sheared off lots of greats but the most painful were from the Legion of Super Heroes. Have some catching up to do. |
The Famished Road- Ben Okri A Man of the People- Chinua Achebe A Grain of Wheat- Ngugi Wa Thiongo Without a Silver Spoon- Eddie Iroh Pepertua and the Habit of Unhappyness- Mongo Beti |
Creepshow is very very old. I bought a Classic Horror collection, and it includes everything, even the original Japanese The Ring movies. Ed Harris wasn't bald in it. He had a full head of hair. Looked to be in his late twenties or so. Anyway, something soon bashed his full head of hair in. Spiked leave poor Afin the hell alone. ![]() Oh man,if Buscemi were even half way goodlooking I would so have a crush on the guy, he is so insane. I don't like Reilly for his looks. But I liked him as an actor. Until Stepbrothers. ![]() Hmmm. Conelly and Weitz seem to have the same eyes. Weitz is better-looking though. |
Surf's Up is totally great. ![]() Why just three?Someone knock that silly, joyless Hancock off the list. Marvel vs DC skits? A link pls? DC comics rule! |
Bettes you have to say WHY you like the ones you like. A list of what?Is Weitz still making movies? Haven't seen her in anything lately. Saw a very young Ed Harris yesterday in Stephen King's Creepshow. |
Leave it to you to pull out flipflops like that. A real work of art. ![]() Guilty, guilty guilty on one count. But I,er, wear whatever the hell I'm in the mood for. I can't stand the black and white emperor penguins look in some offices. |
Vesc! I meant in movies! In secret, ehn? Oh man you have polished me off with that one. Oh man. I know my sides are going to hurt today. ![]() There there, baby. ![]() Enemy at the Gates. With Ed Harris and Rachel Weitz. |
Er,iice, Giovanni Rabisi? You were saying why you liked him? John C Reilly. I liked him. Until I saw him in that retarded Stepbrothers with Will Ferrel. |
William?!!!! Tell me it's not that cartoonish character who thinks he's so hot and acted in Fair Game, Dead's and,um,er, Silver? He is not in the same league as Alec Baldwin! If you want to see how striking Alec is, watch Prelude to a Kiss. I rewound the place where he had his shirt off so many times my brothers screamed blue murder. His iron filings chest hair. Ohhhh. Ohhhhhhhhh. Er. Daniel Baldwin. I generally steer clear of bad movies, unless some big name suckered me in. I saw Baldwin on EARTHSTORM and took a look. He he he. I almost died laughing from the special effects.Especially where the building collapsed. This movie is so bad it's unbelievable. ![]() Jude Law was frigging DIVINE in Cold Mountain. If you're not certain he can act, that movie tells you he can. That was the first time he actually convinced me he could. He was okay in Talented Mr Ripley too. But I thought Damon's performance was better. You cannot beat his tortured, agonised offing of the friend he'd fallen in love with at the end. I can never resist a man in tears. Why don't the creatures cry more?(sigh) 1.Buscemi ![]() 2. The short little guy in Jewels of the Nile. 3. Stiller There are so many ordinary-looking guys in Hollywood. I can't name em all. |
@Vesc, Sorry honey. I couldn't resist. ![]() Make una leave Affleck alone na! E kill persin? I prefer Day Lewis as a villian. So much more memorable. I can't deny he made my heart go trippity-trip in Last of the Mohicans, but I enjoy his villainy better. Spiked, all those divine uns are floating about, eye candy. But how many actors combine killer looks with genuine acting talent? Not many. Tom Cruise. DiCaprio. Depp. Damon has a killer smile. Man did I nurse a crush on that guy before Watanabe or what? James Marsden. Jude Law. And this guy was absolutely beautiful when he was younger-Alec Baldwin. Not many. So Seymour looks like an albino. There are worse-looking actors. iice, you have a thing for Giovanni Rabisi? Isn't he the one in the movie with Cate Blanchett, where she unintentionally kills some people, and he helps her escape and they take off into the air together? I think so. Can never remember the movie title. What's special about him? |
Ohhhh Okay. You scared me for a moment there. That tree? Spiked you are so eeevil!!! My sides o. ![]() |
@Vesc Long list you mean. @Okija juju To be continued ehn? The Nollywood bug's really bitten you. |
Majek Fashek could've been one of the greatest musicians on the continebt. He was billed to step into Marley's shoes, that was how much talent he had. Look how he ended up. E pain me o. I was a real fan of the guy. |
She's a stupid airhead,is what she is. If they had aborted the silly Arrow herself, would she be contemplating an abortion based on the most ridiculous reasons I've ever heard? She had sex before marriage. It's not new. She wants to hide the fact from people, who apparently matter more than the God she purports to be serving, more than the life of the human being growing inside her. Stupid girl. How will someone this senseless make a marriage work? |
Vesc, they can't all be fine! How come you're noticing his looks sef? Your proclivities,eh? How about your latencies? ![]() |
I first saw him in a Ben Stiller movie, Along Came Polly, or something, as Stiller's disgraceful buddy. Then later in The Talented Mr Ripley. He's gotten really, really good. |
Spiked, did my eyes deceive me,or did you just say you first saw Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky? |
I agree about Symour. Great actor. When you've talent, sooner or later the accolades and the recognition will come. He deserves more? Um, er, he's got an Oscar, Vesc. What more dya want? |
Was reminded why it's in my Top Twenty. I was wondering why, and now I remember! Terrific movie. LOL! Affleck? I thought he was well cast. He and Willis had great chemistry. Admit it,Vesc. That Buscemi, my number one nominee for the Hollywood Hall of Crazies. "Hey Sharp! No nukes! No nukes! No nukes!" It was great to see Willis again. I haven't seen a lot of him lately. I tried to watch Perfect Starnger cause he was on the billing, but that ashawo Halle Berry scared me off with her horrible acting before he made an appearance. No I haven't seen Nam Angels. I don't remember. It sounds familiar. |
Yeah right, iice. Play it like you've never felt that 10000 megawatt smile of his. |
Actors Aamir Khan. He rules! Hrithrik Roshan. Gorgeous. Actresses Kajol Priety Zinta |
I was teasing Karma. She didn't put his name there, did she?But she's such a devoted fan of Bardem. I'm working on several projects. Some with deadlines. Such ees life. I wish the danged things would complete themselves. I hate work. How you been? I recall you vanished someplace sometime ago. What's up with that? Vesc! You don't like Cruise? Why nat? After his superb turn in the very disturbing Born on the Fourth of July, he couldn't do anything wrong. Hmm, well, there is the creepy scientology. Why don't you like him? |
@Spiked Both, it seems. Where ya been? Vesc, real nice. You FORGOT about the drowning. Agree with you. But I was still rooting for Jackman. Could be his looks. I don't know. I lika di guy. Saw Armageddon yesterday. I'd forgotten how much I liked that movie! OMG. Buscemi is the insanest guy in the universe. "A busted ship? I had a great spot picked out there!" |
Good lawd! I haven't seen half the nominated movies on the list. Bardem again? What the hell Karma that's your handiwork, mind! Go Kung Fu Panda! Why the blue blazes are they nominating Tom Cruise? He plays a creepy bald thingie in Tropic and a Golden Globe's next? I'm getting Revolutionary Road jare. Go DiCaprio, you little god you! |
@jaata Hard, but not impossible, dudeski. The villains were exaggeratedly evil,no? How many Bond villains resemble anyone you know or have heard of? Bastids, sure, but surreal bastids. Craig's villains, on the other hand, are not improbable. Quantum's bad guy's the type you read about on the news all the time. Unremarkable, but totally real, totally evil. No, you did not say that! A gay Bond? ![]() Yes, he didn't sleep with the Bond girl. The movie continues directly from where Royale ends, Bond had unresolved emotional issues from Vesper's death. Result: No shagging with Olga. But I grudgingly agree about Connery. He was an amazing Bond. Dr No has to be the best Bond movie so far. No gadgets, and yet all edge and charm and cruelty. Craig's the only one who comes close. Vesc, brace yourself. The way things are going we're soon going to have gay heroes and gay villains. You'll see. ![]() |
Sort of. I love Hugh Jackman and Bale and will watch anything either appears in. But I dimly recall I wasn't happy with the ending.I was rooting for Jackman. Good movie though. Why? |
