Christianity EtcRe: Is Purgatry Real by MadMax1(f): 6:18pm On Dec 02, 2008
I'm not accusing the Catholic church of a damn thing. I know too little about religion to point fingers. But when I'm not convinced of a teaching, then I'm not.

The verses you quoted can fit quite a lot of interpretations. Purgatory teaches that a sinner is in suspended judgement, and by the intecession of men,he gradually ascends to the place of grace:Heaven. I don't see this teaching in the Bible.

The verses you quote merely implies, our favourite word, yes?- that there is a place where dead souls go,awaiting juggement. It's in most religious literature, and there are all sorts of names for the place:Hades being one. "It is appointed for a man to die once, and after that, the judgement." The bible holds every man accountable for his works, and he is judged based on those works. It says a child murderer will die and his soul would go to the place dead men's souls go. He will be judged at some time or the other< perhaps at the end of the age.He will be condemned. But purgatory says he is in Limbo, and his relatives and priests may interced for him, and his child murderinbg ways will be forgiven, and he may skip right on into heaven.

I'm not saying purgatory is impossible. I'm saying I do NOT see it in the Bible, and you haven't made me see it. I'm willing to, if it's there. Those verses you quote say men's souls are in a place, awaiting judgement, which is what the bible says. It says their works will be judged by fire. That is a far cry from saying it means they're in purgatory and men on earth may pray and pray until they've prayed away all the evil men have done on earth. It says feel free to do anything, men will intecede for you, you might stay in purgatory for a while, but then you'll float into heaven.
PoliticsRe: Northerner Kill Yoruba Corpers Leke Akande; Tola Odusola, Ibukun Akinjogbin by MadMax1(f): 5:52pm On Dec 02, 2008
I read the account of the killing of the corpers and wanted to cry. Imagine having people murdered in your presence. The shock alone would render me insane. Hundreds of deaths. The same senseless horror echoing in hundreds of families. They'll try to make sense of the deaths of their loved ones, and won't be able to.

Nigeria isn't one. It's never been one. I wonder why we keep thinking a split is an evil thing. I wonder why hausas work and live comfortably in other regions, they feel safe, and yet other tribes and religions are disposable aliens in their territory. One Nigeria is a myth. If you can't co-exist peacefully, then co-exist separately. I wonder if the tutsis, given a choice between their own state and having a million of them senselessly butchered, wouldn't have chosen being apart, and a million stronger.

How many people have died in Nigeria from the sort of unspeakeably evil disposition that sees no harm in butchering another human being for religious reasons? How many thousands and thousands? And we've come to accept this state of things,we feel a distant sort of sympathy and anger, but it's not our lives that were so cruelly and meaninglessly snatched away. If it were, perhaps the one Nigeria at all costs people would have a rethink from the other side.

Let the hausa people go.Let them leave the rest of us alone. And they'll need a frigging visa before they can cross over from their terrain. Unfortunately, if we split,it won't be clean, but very very messy, and at least 5 countries would emerge, with others clamouring for their own nation. If separation is what will give the rest of us peace,so frigging be it,yes please and thank you. There is no tribe as barbaric and monstrous as these hausa savages.

They do these things and they get away with it. There are no repercussions, no meaningful investigations, no one brought to book. Where the hell is the deterrent to stop these psychopaths in their blood-loving tracks? Execute a hundred of the guilty bastards for murder, and do so every time they attack, and mayhaps they'll think twice before cutting off heads in the name of their bleeding Allah.

Indeed I deed. Great idea. Too, I don't know to else to put it, too big to be contained in a PC. I honestly don't know about the oscars anymore, if this movie cannot win best foreign language film. What's the basis for the other film winning, then? It's one of those rare movies you experience, and not merely watch. And it's joined my Top 20 all time list. Thanks for recommending this.

Nice, yes.
And time consuming.
Since I have to watch every one and listen to its music agin.
But I've noted down GoldFinger,Goldeneye, Casino Royale,Dr No, and The Spy Who Loved Me.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Purgatry Real by MadMax1(f): 3:45pm On Nov 29, 2008
I never said purgatory was implied. I was talking to the lady who said it was. I was wondering why everything else is explicitly taught, but only purgatory is 'implied'.

Damn right, Princesa. grin
Ravenzord, Shinoda doesn't rap much in Minutes to Midnight, because they wantede a new sound. What do you think of What I've Done, the album's opening track? Supercool, yeh? The video shows the group's humanitarian leanings. Most rock bands are snorting coke and contemplating dozens of navels, these young guys are respectably married with kids and want to save the world.

I love the rock version of Evanescene's My Immortal. Britney Spear's stupid Toxic kept that song from getting to number one. Does that song rock or what?
Foreign AffairsRe: Islamic Terrorists Rock India by MadMax1(f): 2:59pm On Nov 29, 2008
The Indian Prime Minister has a conspiracy theory: he thinks they're from out of town.
And the timing is a little too convenient.
"Stop the Hate Messages"? I don't hear you saying 'Stop terrorism, fellow crazed muslims'. The Irish Republican Army and your snot-nosed,I-kill-for-sex-in-paradise lot in the same breath? Nae nae laddie, it will nae do.  You flatter yourselves.

Bastage, take it from the top.

And a one, and a two, and a one-two-three-go

For they are murdering bastards
For they are murdering bas-tards
For they are murdering bas-tarrrrrrrds
Murdering bastards they are.

I hear they're fighting in Jos now. Maybe it's another religious thing. Maybe it's not.
Music/RadioRe: Twenty Of Your Favorite Albums. by MadMax1(f): 2:30pm On Nov 29, 2008
HRH, I can't TELL you how much I love Linkin Park. They do charity work too, virtually sealing my adoration. kiss kiss kiss 'Crawlin' is frigging fantastic, all of Hybrid Theory is fanstastic. I wasn't surprised to learn it was the biggest selling album of the 21st Century. As is Meteora. They're experimenting with their sound in the 2007 Minutes to Midnight, and I'm loving it.

Heyyy, someone loves their rock. I saw Good Charlotte on a list. I love their Hold On and the Keep Your Hands Off My Girl video.
Vesc, see how many people know a good thing when they see it? Get Your Linkin Park now!

Impossible for me to come up with a twenty list. I love everything from Linkin Park to Stevie Wonder to vintage Sunny Ade to Pink Floyd to Madonna (Ray of Light is definitely on my impossible list) to Phil Collins to ColdPlay to Three Doors Down to Voice of the Cross to Tracy Chapman to Bob Marley to Red Hot Chilli Peppers to KC and the Sunshine to TOTO to The WHO to Evanescence to Outkast. I can't come up with a list. undecided

Oh Linkin Linkin Linkin
Where art thou, my Linkin kiss
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 2:05pm On Nov 29, 2008
I can't believe it.
I spent hours agonising which had to go between TOY STORY and The Sixth Sense,to make room in my TOP TWENTY for this movie.
PAN'S LABYRINTH is breathtaking.A wondrous marvel, one world a beautiful, distorted, dark, magical mirror of the other.
The movie works and is so great on so many levels, from the music to the directing to the script to the costumes, I don't know where to begin.
HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW did THIS not win Best Foreign Language film? It's an amazing movie in ANY language, and it's impossible for any movie to have beaten it in that category. It's so good, so skilfully done, that within minutes I forgot I was reading subtitles, and was swept away. When it ended we couldn't talk,it was so bloody fantastic an experience.

I'll do as you suggest, karma, and convert to DVD first. It's pretty hard waiting till evening and not sneaking a look.
iice, you LOTR fanatic, you!
Music/RadioRe: Twenty Of Your Favorite Albums. by MadMax1(f): 4:36pm On Nov 27, 2008
Is this a Linkin Park thread?
Villain!
Vesc, your list is missing their Hybrid Theory and Meteora albums. Hybrid Theory is THE best rock album ever. And catch Chester's grammy-winning rendition of 'Crawlin'.(Best Hard Rock performance). The In the End video rocks, as well as What I've Done. Everything about LINKIN PARK ROCKSSSSS!!!!! Except for that stupid rap Jay-Z shot into Numb, the song from their Meteora album.

Oh you like Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I loved their Californication album. the title track is amazing,  the guitar riffs out of this world.

Love X and Y too. Esp Speed of Sound. Is Natasha related to Daniel Bedingfield?
I am so going to fill this thread with Linkin Park stuff.

iice, the list is endless. I just LOVE a good movie. It doesn't even have to be a movie. Anything that can make my jaw drop. I remember, in Season Five of The Sopranos, The Test Dream, I was listening to Tony Soprano's conversation with the girl he'd murdered, ("Pow! Right on the kisser!"winkand my mouth actually hung open in awe. That's what I want in a movie. To have my mind boggled.
And to have a great time too. grin

Hey, who said this, to whom, in what movie?

Oh, but you are alone. Who knows what you have spoken to the darkness, alone, in the bitter watches of the night, when all your life seems to shrink, the walls of your bower closing in about you, a hutch to trammel some wild thing in? So fair, yet so cold like a morning of pale Spring still clinging to Winter's chill.

What movies are you into? You have a list of favourites?
TV/MoviesRe: Who's The Best James Bond And Who's The Worst? by MadMax1(op): 4:08pm On Nov 27, 2008
And his trash-talkin' turn in Bad Boys. grin
I guess.
But you have to wonder what's wrong with the guy these days. tongue

Quantum's made over $400 million worldwide since its release last month. Incredible.
I have the entire collection of Bond movies, from Dr No to Quantum. I'm trying to make a top ten list:best 10 Bond movies, top ten villains, Top ten Bond Girls, top ten music.
Not today.
I'm watching PAN's today.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 3:59pm On Nov 27, 2008
PAN's downloaded.
Would rather manually shop for the danged things and be delighted to find it, than download.Only exceptions are Linkin Park videos and albums. But then, they are my favourite rock band. Having everything at my fingertips is so boring.

Will watch PAN''s with my Mister Boi in the evening. So looking forward to this one.

Gamine,
You have to wonder. grin
Sesame Street?Um,Er, it's still an ongoing program, you know. CBS is still churning it out. Bob is a very nice-looking oldish man. That's one program I might still have the pleasure of watching with my kids. I've been hunting down the entire collection of Danger Mouse and Fraggle Rock and the rest. Honestly, kids these days don't have it as good.
