Foreign AffairsRe: Is The Terrorist State Of Israel Fighting Hamas Or The UN & Palestinian People by MadMax1(f): 7:17pm On Jan 19, 2009
Israel has always responded to aggression, small or great, with greater aggression. Engage Israel in war, it's win or be devastated. The tactic continues to prove effective, even if it's given the country a psychology of aggression.Hamas keeps engaging Israel in battles it can't win. People die in war. Innocent and guilty alike, they die. It's impossible to not have civilian casualties. That's the horror of it. That's why war is a very expensive way to settle international issues.Hamas and the entire palestinian people should have counted the cost and determined that they can afford it.

While Israel's strategy is obvious, the fact is those casualties are people, children included. There is such a thing as overkill. Even the country seems to realise it crossed a line. More Hamas soldiers should be the victims of the conflict, not needless thousands of civilians. It simply isn't justifiable.

It's unfortunate that Hamas imagines it can eradicate Israel. It submerges each generation in a history of injustice and visions of a glorious re-occupation of its lands. Every act of aggression from Israel feeds their sense of injury and persecution and their hatred of Israel. One hopes for a lasting truce. Children being killed, and for what? Enough.

Yo Mad-Max, Do ya watch Anime, theres something id like to invite you to
Spiked, you plus.
I can't believe I just registered that. I watch anime. What's the 'thing'?
Played anything interesting lately?I came home Sat to find men-type creatures huddled around my console playing- oh the horror!- SOCCER! They were screeching at every goal like it was the real deal. Well I hunted out the ps1 and had me some alone time with The King: METAL GEAR SOLID. Now playing Tomb Raider: Underworld. You should check it out. Faster game play, fabulous graphics, and you interact with the elements- including your opponents- in new, unexpected ways. I tell you once you get the hang of this maddening game you're hooked. Just give it a go.

Saw Iron Man. Had a good time. Everything was great, including some excellent comic-feel angles when hero and villain clashed. Only complaint is the music. Bland, generic 'action' score.

No one is as evil as Tony's mother. But Janice comes pretty close. You're in for an Adrian shocker in season five, which is the best season, overall.

TV/MoviesRe: Tough Love - The Naija Movie Critique Thread (Only Naija Movies) by MadMax1(f): 2:59pm On Jan 16, 2009
So runt Nollywood producers issue us versions of foreign movies in formats our Neanderthal naija brains can 'get'. We should be on our little knees thanking them nicely. When is the copying going to stop ke? Nollywood Enemy of the Year, u wan make their industry crashburndierotnevergetupagain be dat! I can count original Nollywood movies I've seen on one hand and still have fingers enough to eat with.

Ah. At least you got some good immitation filmmaking. Please go and watch the Saidi Balogun version of Unfaithful, which almost dispatched me to the great beyond with laughter. Dem no go kill persin.

Isn't it sad, though?Someone had the funds and technical know-how to make an '8' movie, and they issue a Bollywood remake.

Subtle acting and intricate movie plots in Nollywood movies?
He-he-he.

But when a movie wins Best Picture and 8 other oscars, more often than not it is worth checking out.  cool
Schindler's List won Best Picture, didn't it? It's a great movie, and it's a true story, which makes it terribly powerful. But The English Patient is the grandest, most beautifully told love story ever, and affected me more than Titanic ever did or could.

Oh you so do not like hot guys. tongue Name a single guy you have called hot or even agreed was hot. A link to that miracle is be required pur-leez.

All you Bourniacs know you used two fingers for guns and played Bond as kids, and your kids will play Bond. Tell them 'Bourne' and they'll say Who? Bond saves the world, all Bourne saves is his skinny ass.

Now that's funny.
Lagos is getting the kind of government the whole country derserves. Is the man great or what? South Africa introduced something like that in J'burg's central business disctrict. Police response time was one minute. It slashed crime in that area by the frigging throat. But a whole state? Brave, wonderful initiative. You are so getting another term in that state,Fash.

Deep condition your hair once a week, two weeks before a perm/touch-up/retouch. It'll give your hair huge volume. I tried it and it's true. Don't know why.

LiteratureRe: Best African Author: Wole Soyinka or Chinua Achebe? by MadMax1(f): 4:56pm On Jan 14, 2009
They're two different kinds of writers and shouldn't be compared at all. Unlike Soyinka though, Achebe knows his area of strength and sticks to that, in the main. He's by far the superior novelist. Soyinka's novels are mediocre, for a Nobel prize winner. The big words are unnecessary in a novel, and you won't find many great writers who use them. A novel's not about how many ten-syllable words you know, but how powerfully you use simple words.

But plays and non-fiction, OMG. The Man Died is an incredible book, and the reason he won the Nobel. It can stand side by side with any book by any author in any country. That's the only writing that revealed the depth of his genius. He should stick to plays and non-fiction. Achebe is a born novelist, and he excels at it.

RomanceRe: Can A Man And A Woman Be '' Just Friends''? by MadMax1(f): 3:46pm On Jan 14, 2009
Yes! Initially you might be attracted to a few of them, especially if you've a lot in common and they've qualities you lack and really admire. But then the attraction passes and you settle down to just being friends. I tell ya, guys make the most amazing buddies once they lose sexual interest in you and simply like you.

Introduced him to Nigerian cuisine aeons ago, and he's now addicted to pounded yam and egusi/vegetable soup. Had to make two different soups at first, but now he laps up regular 'hot' sauces and soups like a born naija man.

With the exception of Dalton and horrid Lazenby, Bond's a god. Karma already has her Bourne-lovin' mind made up, so she may point her eyeballs in that direction, thank you very much. But please, who're we kidding? There's no comparison. Bond totally rules.

Great movie. Penn was fantastic, as usual. Tim Robbins was really something to see as well. Penn's standing ovation at the Oscars that year screamed: 'About frigging time!' I couldn't agree more.
