Christianity EtcRe: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by MadMax1(f): 11:50am On Jan 03, 2009
St Augustine. He reconciled Plato and Theology, and did it amazingly well. He's African, of which I'm terribly proud. He's an amazing Christian. I'm not Catholic, but I can have a fav Saint. He is it, by far.
TV/MoviesRe: MTN Treasure Hunt Game - Robbery? by MadMax1(f): 11:36am On Jan 03, 2009
@Ex
Wow. You actually played till you lost six thousand? shocked MTN thanks you.
Sure they'll parade a few 1M winners, spare change from the hundreds of millions they rake in from the game. It's like the Home Play in Who wants to be a millionaire. A very easy question. You happily reach for your phone and send the answer. They reward a few with 20k the following week. Meanwhile I learnt 10 million people answer Home play each week. Multiply that by N50. Every week. I think Who Wants to be a Millionaire now plays twice weekly.
Treasure Hunt.
Why people aren't disgusted enough to stop using that network and make sure it bites the dust I'll never know. angry

RomanceRe: They Love My Money But Not Me by MadMax1(f): 2:44pm On Dec 31, 2008
Yemo, I feel for UI really do. But it seems your entire life is about being an ss. Surely you're more than your genotype. And you want to get married because you're the only male of your family and your parents want a child from you! shocked So you're an ss. Please don't let your life and all your decisions be about that. You can't take credit for it, and you can't be blamed for it. It is what it is. You're spending lavishly on girls becuase you feel you're not enough to hold their interest. You're compensating for not being 'healthy'. Would you consider stopping that, please? You don't want those kinds of girls around you. Believe me when I say, you're going to meet that special someone, and it's not money that's going to do it.I have three friends who are ss and happily married with kids. The older you get the less frequent and easier crises is to manage. I can't say this enough: stop letting your life be about your genotype. Get married for yourself, and only when you're ready. When you meet a woman worthy of you you'll be pleasantly surprised to find the ss thing isn't as much of an issue as you think.  Good luck sweetie.

FamilyRe: My Father Thinks Im Evil by MadMax1(f): 1:48pm On Dec 31, 2008
I wanted to cry. You're so brave. After all you've gone through you're not at all bitter. You've got the right stuff. Well, you know Africa and the occult. People want to blame other people for their failures. It's easier than facing the fact that they're responsible for their own problems.

Your situation is horrible. Your father has relinquished control of his life to his church. They have to deliver what he wants and you're the unlucky scapegoat. I agree with those who say you need a different environment, before this permanently mars you psychologically. I shudder to think of the damage it's already done, and how very very hurt you must feel. I urge you to look for your mother. Since she was a victim of the same church she should be able to sympathise. And she is your mother, no way is she going to be 'indifferent' to you. Perhaps you just assume she is. Please find her and convince her to let you live with her. You really need a friend and at your age can be your mother's friend. She doesn't think you're a witch, and being around normal people who don't see the devil when they see you might help heal some of the pain your father's inflicted on you,and restore your sense of worth. I love that you don't hate your father. You're so strong.

2009 would have the greatest shocks. . wait and see
You must be in the know. I don't know what you've got planned for the Oscars but no nasty surprises please. Could you swing Oscars for Winslet and DiCaprio for Revolutionary Road while you're up there? That would be so good. The oscars and their weird awards is SO right. Do not get me started on my Oscar peeves. angry

tpia:
Little Miss Sunshine was insightful. They don't make those kind of movies too often.
Currently watching- Lost in translation (its been on my to watch list for a while).
So far so good, I guess? Bill Murray shines as he often does. The movie seems a little sad though. The actors totally capture the lost feeling and culture shock.
Yeah.Miss Sunshine. So deep. But what is it saying?I so don't get it. But Steve Carell was wonderful. And a fool for wasting hisself on stupidities like 40 year old Virgin. Bill Murray was great. Catch that face of his when they're shooting the Japanese beer commercial and the oblivious director asks for one more take like, the thousandth time. grin

I kinda liked Olive's performance at the end, and her family joining in, and being made to swear they will NEVER enter that girl for another contest, grin and taking off like half a dozen happy bandits in their awful bus. But why Best Picture? Don't get that part.
CultureRe: Are You Proud To Be A Nigerian? by MadMax1(f): 9:05pm On Dec 29, 2008
It's not easy being Nigerian now. People act like you're on probation for being Nigerian. And you experience a few things that sadden and anger you. But I don't have to 'prove' myself 'untainted' by Nigerianness to anyone. I like who I am and where I'm from. You have problems with that, too bad.

Too sad for words. These people have lived the same way for thousands of years. Ahmad in 800 AD is Ahmad in 2008 AD. Bartering his child to settle debts. Horrible.

Saw Little Miss Sunshine. Didn't get it. What's the hype about? No idea Steve Carell could act. His movies are generally much of a muchness and terribly unfunny. His performance surprised the hell out of me. Shoulda gotten a best supporting oscar nod.

FamilyRe: What Will You Do ,if Your Parent Told You That You Were Adopted by MadMax1(f): 1:46pm On Dec 26, 2008
Would make no difference to me. Your parents are the ones who raise and love you. If they happen to be biological, fine. If not, that's fine too.
CareerRe: Pilot Career by MadMax1(f): 1:41pm On Dec 26, 2008
Crooks, what can I say? It cost me a lot. grin And that was then. I've moved beyond P.P.L training, though I'm not a career pilot. The flight school you attend matters. Why don't you tell me what sort of flight training you're interested in,and what countries, and I'll recommend some good places. Are you aiming for a C.P.L ,or just a P.P.L?Or you want a real aviation career, in which case, if you're still in school, you might switch to places like Embry-Riddle, where you get a degree in aviation and get to fly some of the coolest transports. You might even get to test pilot, which is the coolest thing this side of heaven!

Or you're interested in rotating wings? What's your interest?
