Penn is one of the most incredible actors on the planet. That he didn't win Best Actor for Dead Man Walking remains a pet Oscar peeve. angry There are no words to describe how electrifying his performance in that movie was. He can't win enough, as far as I'm concerned. He's one of the few actors I watch ANYTHING they're in.

Are you saying his performance in MILK was better than I AM SAM?
Ye gods. I must watch that movie.

If the Asian bizman hadn't given his Morroccan friend the gun he wouldn't have sold it to another friend who wouldn't have given it to his sons who wouldn't have decided on an experiement when two conflicted Americans were on a bus, which wouldn't have delayed their getting home, which wouldn't have forced their children's nanny into taking the kids with her to her son's wedding, etc. The director was trying to show the interconnectedness of things and how a single action can have devastating,far-reaching consequences. It's a love it or hate it movie.

Great score, haunting and desolate.

Six deals with Italian machismo and homosexuality. Tony's clan discover one of them is a raging homo and naturally want to issue him a slow and painful death. They guy gets out of there like Satan himself is after him. Focuses on Tony's daughter's relationship, amongst other things. Not as good as the previous five seasons, but not bad.

TV/MoviesRe: Bond Vs Bourne by MadMax1(f): 7:40pm On Jan 07, 2009
Leave Bond alone. Na by force? tongue
You totally have to check Bourne out! The three titles are great, the action's gritty and real, the emotions raw and the theme music good. I'm not an action movie fan,but the Bourne franchise's definitely worth a peek.

But if you haven't seen Craig's Casino Royale, you should. It's very good.
Travel AdsRe: Cheapest Way To Ship Goods From USA To Nigeria? by MadMax1(f): 6:44pm On Jan 07, 2009
You can try these guys PB&V. It's mainly shopping in America from Nigeria. It's operated by Nigerians and Americans and they're very professional. The service is really excellent. 50-70% Off regular DHL,FedEx etc shipping rates and my stuff arrives at my door in just a few day. I use them whenever I'm in the country.

I had reservations about dealing with Nigerians at first but these people aren't frauds.

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Stars Who Can Make It In Hollywood by MadMax1(f): 6:10pm On Jan 07, 2009
Ramsey can fit in perfectly where? Make e go siddon. Joke Sylva and Taiwo Ajai Lycett. Olu Jacobs is overrated. Omotola is pretty but Kate Henshaw is a better actress.

Good Girl:
- Bob Manuel and Bimbo Akintola have good accents. Not pidgin-laden like the rest of them. But for Hollywood? Really? No! No offence.
Wetin do Nigerian accent o? You think you need one in Hollywood, maybe? That's a thought. No wonder Scorcese and Spielberg and Fincher are running after Hanks Anuku and Jim Lyke to star in their movies. They gotta have them some fake Nimericans. No wonder Schwazennegger,Agbaje,Cruz and Hayek couldn't make it in Hollywood, with their atrocious local accents.

American filmmakers wouldn't be using other Americans to portray Africans, like Cheadle in Hotel Rwanda, if there was a talented local pool they could draw from. Nollywood actors belong in Nollywood ah beg. That's why they're still in Nollywood. Most of them cant act to save their lives. tongue

Seems everyone left Grey's when Preston left. The guy happend to be my favourite, along with the Nazi and Cristina. Meredith I wanted to shake until her teeth fell out. So he called George a gay. Bet he's been called much worse. The show lost something when he left. I replaced Grey's with House MD, and wasn't sorry!

JD is the craziest and most shameless medic on the planet. grin Cox is just plain insane. It's exactly my kind of comedy. I haven't laughed this much since These Wonder Years. grin
FamilyRe: Nigerian Kids Can't Speak Local Languages: by MadMax1(f): 5:29pm On Jan 07, 2009
@plappville
Three languages. Lovely. I heard ages four to six is the best for kids to learn diverse languages. They don't get confused. You might be surprised to hear some kids have mastered Latin, French, English,Spanish and German by age six. The guy whose kid learnt Latin is a scholar and Catholic. I don't think 3 languages is too much for your kid. Give him tme. He'll master all three. I think it's great you're not in the country and your kid is learning your dialect. Unlike some inferiority-complexed asses who're right here in the country.I was visiting a friend once and their kid rushed in and told them something excitedly in Yoruba. The father was displeased and thought it warranted a spanking. It's an epidemic. Why cant our kids speak BOTH English and local languages?Haba!
LiteratureRe: Do You Remember the Pacesetters Books? by MadMax1(f): 5:06pm On Jan 07, 2009
I loved Pacesetters. kiss Bloodbath at Lobster's Close- I read it for that fantastic title and had a fantastic time! My favourite Pacecesetter author was Victor Thorpe. His books were funny as hell and terribly imaginative, with a motor-mouth,one-legged journalist getting into all sorts of otherworldly wahala. He wrote The Instrument and The Worshippers. The only one I didn't like was The Cyclist.Hated the ending. But there's so much innocence in those books, they're such a wonderful series and the stories were so marvelous. There's even a sort of James Bond in the series, some black South African guy who pursues baddies all over the globe.

In all I have read:

Agony In Her Voice
Angel Of Death
The Betrayer
The Black Temple
Blackmailers
Stranger’s Son
Tell Me No More
Stone Vengeance
Stop Press: Murder!
Too cold for Comfort
The Undesirable Element
Vicious Circle
Wages Of Sin
The Worshippers
Cross-Fire
The Cyclist
Death Is Woman
The Delinquent
The Equatorial Assignment
Bloodbath At Lobster Close†
Christmas In The City
Evbu My Love
The Extortionist
Director!
Double Trouble
Felicia
For Better For Worse
For Mbatha And Rabeka
A Fresh Start
Hopeful Lovers*
The Instrument
Love On The Rocks
Mark Of The Cobra
On The Road
Possessed!
Race Against Rats
Rich Girl, Poor Boy
Sisi
The Smugglers
State Secret

Why did they let this amazing series die?

JD himself nko? The guy has the stupidest snicker on the planet, and is so hopelessly upsidedown, he's indescribable. Carla to Cox to the janitor, all of them are crazy, there isn't a sane finger in the entire bunch. It's beyond funny. I can't get enough! grin
TV/MoviesRe: MTN Treasure Hunt Game - Robbery? by MadMax1(f): 3:03pm On Jan 07, 2009
'Such people' transmuted that litttle runt of a company into a global player. Nigerians made MTN. One wouldn't mind their insane exploitativeness and demonic greed if they would furnish some semblance of service. They do things here they wouldn't dare attempt in their home country.
PoliticsRe: Petition For Division Of Nigeria Into 3 Countries by MadMax1(f): 2:28pm On Jan 06, 2009
The country's sort of been in the wrong hands somewhat continually. Rectifying that would be the best, instead of dividing us into three litttle Nigerias. If corruption and the serious flaws undergirding the country's political and judicial systems aren't tackled, we split up and still have to deal with the same problems.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 12:55pm On Jan 06, 2009
Saw Mamma Mia! For a movie that's nudged Titanic off the U.K Top Alll-time Spot it was plenty unspectacular and the choreography really terrible. A thin romance and who-dash-my-mama-belle tale wended around some of ABBA's biggest hits, it held no surprises and charmed me very little. But you gotta love Meryl's all-over-the-place girlishness.
A friend watched Benjamin Button and said it was long and boring and she couldn't wait for Pitt to die already so she could go someplace. Kinda put me off.

To lose weight no easy o. Maybe you're doing a lot of eating and very little exercise. Maybe it's having babies, and you know that weight is hard to lose. Don't starve yourself o. Try watching what you eat and exercise. Exercise is very hard to begin and easy to quit, but once you start seeing the benefits you won't quit.
FamilyRe: Nigerian Kids Can't Speak Local Languages: by MadMax1(f): 12:46pm On Jan 03, 2009
A real shame. And you have it: it's inferiority complex, and it's more than just the language. I don't think Europeans and Americans on a first time visit suffer culture shock, what with our clumsy mimicry of everything they 're about, from music to clothes to food to,hell, everything. The ones I can't stand are American wannabes and their fake accents. One can sound good and Nigerian, one can look good and Nigerian. Sure there are aspects of our culture that should bite the dust but not our language for crying out loud.
LiteratureRe: Dean koontz, Stephen King by MadMax1(f): 12:39pm On Jan 03, 2009
A serious fan of both writers. Love Intensity, Dragon Tears, From the Corner of His Eye, Cold Fire, Hideaway,Odd Thomas from Koontz. The Stand and The Dark Tower Series from King. The Dark Tower series is incredible, especially the fourth book, Wizard and Glass where he takes us back into Roland's dark, young past.

CareerRe: Pilot Career by MadMax1(f): 12:23pm On Jan 03, 2009
Crooks, A.T.P.L is like the masters of piloting. Airlines do scrutinise your training so your flight school matters. For good, affordable P.P.L. and C.P.L I'd say South Africa and perhaps Australia. But the best flight training is to be had in the US. Honestly, they can't be beaten. The best US training schools are affiliated with airlines and line up job interviews for you when you finish training. Look around and see what bargains are to be had. Get in touch with flight schools and ask questions. Visit airline websites and see if they have flight training on offer. Some of them train pilots who commit to them for an agreed number of years. Just go for it.

FashionRe: Explain The Weave Ons by MadMax1(f): 12:03pm On Jan 03, 2009
I hate the look. And yet this little hypocrite wears wigs that achieve the same effect when I'm too frazzled to give a damn about my hair. I want to come up with my own look and join the band of sisters who refuse to mimic 'white girl' hairdos, but I'm too lazy to do it. tongue Will wig along, and then stop. But you can't deny it's convenient and lets the hair breathe, and there's an amazing array of looks your stylist can achieve with weave-ons.
