SIRTee15: What happened to nigerian American men..... Or those ones no dey marry or na white women den dey follow.... At least the nigerian british girls marry their male colleagues very well here in uk... Even though their own craze no be for here.... The Nigerian American men generally do not look at their Nigerian-American female counterparts for the said reason. An example: A white/Latino woman will generally make the effort to cook... An African non-Nigerian would do the same thing. Our Nigerian-American beautiful lady wouldn’t generally do so. The craze of Nigerian-British girls no be here. It’s no longer a London thing. Same craze in Birmingham, Leicester, etc, in those girls. I respect their choices, believe me. But when they expect their fellow Nigerian males to become Westernised in what are trado-ideals to the males, this is where I have a problem. |

This is just f^ckn ridiculous. LOL. When you go to the States and see many unmarried males and females, you will understand the purpose of the article. The males in the States are unwilling and unready to get married and when the few are ready, they opt for (1) White and Latino (2) Travelling to Nigeria to marry a Nigerian based lady and (3) marry an African who is non-Nigerian. Posts as this are necessary. I just wish the OP and others can be blunt and call out the issues about these ladies— their terrible, arrogant, psuedo-feminist character. If we are honest and blunt about Nigerian males, we should be, we should be honest and blunt about the females. |

Crispels: Nigerian-Americans to a very large extent, are Nigerians who were born and/or raised by Nigerian parents in the United States. Most of them were born to Nigerian immigrant families - many of whom migrated to Yankee during the ”visa lottery and green card regime”. Some prominent Nigerian American girls are Tomi Adeyemi, Chineye Ogwumike, Nneka Ogwumike, Arike Ogunbowale, Oyinye Iweala and many more.
In the course of my experience studying and living in America, I’ve interacted with so many Nigerian-Americans and these are some of my observations.
This thread is a response to previous threads on dating African Americans and immigrant Nigerian women(those who migrated to the US from Naija as adults - some in their late 20s and some in their early 30s, 40s etc) in the USA. This particular thread could help guide prospective Nigerian foreign students or immigrants in America - who hope to end up with one of their sisters or brothers that were born and raised in the diaspora.
(1). Most of them(Nigerian-Americans) are more Nigerian than you think. There is an erroneous belief among many Nigerians back home who feel once people leave Nigeria - they stop being a Nigerian. To be honest, I'm more Nigerian right now than I was while growing up in Naija. For many Nigerian-Americans, the story is the same. Most(not all) of the Nigerian-Americans I’ve met here are so deeply rooted in the Nigerian culture that I'm sometimes left in awe. Many of them have Nigerian flags in their apartments and if you check their Instagram profiles - you are very likely to see the smiley of a Nigerian flag there. And please: don't think ”patriotism is sweet from the abroad”.
There are many Nigerian-Americans who go home every 6months - they know how difficult things could be in Naija but the reality is: once you have a Nigerian ancestry - you and your descendants are forever Nigerians. Thus, you can never disassociate yourself from your roots. Unless you just want to foo.l yourself. I know of Nigerian immigrants (with a US green card) who left the US(sold their properties) and returned to Naija to hustle because living abroad does not feel like home to many Nigerians.
In states like Texas, Maryland, New York, Georgia, California, Illinois, and others with tens of thousands of Nigerians, it is common to meet Nigerian-American girls who eat only Nigerian food(they don't like American food despite being born and raised there). They also know the songs of Davido, Wiz Kid, Burna Boy, Tiwa, Falz, Zlatan, Naira Marley and the likes in manners typical of a Lagos babe. That explains why whenever these Naija artistes come to the US - their concerts are usually sold out. Nigerian -Americans no dey joke with Afrobeat music oo.
(2). Nigerian -American girls are super ambitious and successful
Wait! If you are a Naija guy hoping to date a Naija-Americana, you better up your game now! These girls are not joking mehn. 99% of the Nigerian-American girls around me are all pursuing careers that pay at least 6-figures annually. There was a Nigerian-American girl I met in New York. She had her first degree from Harvard. An MPH(Master of Public Health) from Yale and she's about resuming medical school at another ivy league school. In a system like America, with the field she plans to work in, such a fellow is likely to end up earning at least $500,000 pay in a few years. Her story is similar to that of most Nigerian-American girls here. I have never met a Naija-Americana who is not interested in higher degrees or high paying careers in America like medicine, nursing, tech, finance, pharmacy, sports, business/investment/investment banking, trade, engineering, consulting, etc.
So, if you plan to date/marry a Naija-Americana, you must be ambitious, honest, and hardworking. Otherwise, you go play second fiddle tire.
(3). Their parents and family are heavily involved in their lives.
One of the major reasons why they are super successful is because of their parents. Most Nigerian-Americans live in America but they were raised in Nigerian homes. Thus, many of their parents raised them like Naija kids - read your books. Work hard. Be excellent and always aim for the top. Pursue high-paying careers. All of these coupled with the enabling environment and opportunities that America provides make them who they are. Many of their parents give them the specs of the husbands/wives they want them to have. I’ve seen cases where Nigerian-American girls refused to date guys because they were not ambitious and successful enough. In fact, within the Nigerian community here, there is ”elitism”(if you are a young Nigerian chap and you are not well educated or you don't have a good-paying career job, many Nigerian-Americans won't even roll with you. This is a story for another day).
(4). They don't really need your money.
They want you to be successful. Be well educated and have a great career but they don't plan to leech off you. To the basics. Whenever I go out with Nigerian-American girls here, they always want to pay for their own food and drinks. In fact, some of them have offered to pay for mine - even though I invited them for lunch/dinner. I’ve had arguments with a few of them for always wanting to split bills when I was the one who planned the treat. Hence, don't expect them to disturb you for money related to makeup, hair, accessories, and the likes. Although, it is always good to surprise them with gifts and flowers - if you plan to date or marry any of them.
(5).Many of them place a premium on physical features(being tall is a big deal to them)
Especially when they are young(let's say below the age of 25), many Nigerian-American girls love guys with certain physical features like height(6’7 tall), muscles, beards and the likes. They love guys that are athletic and super clean. So, apart from being career-driven, be prepared to hit the gym to grow some mass if you wan see them date. Although, as they grow older, they tend to care less about these physical features. Regardless, they always love and prefer tall and clean guys who have great careers. Their ideal man is a guy who is physically appealing, clean, intelligent, career-driven and has a great taste of fashion.
(6). They are not your cooks or slaves
This is the American part of them. If you know you want a wife that will constantly cook for you, clean the house and do other numerous chores. Sorry. Most Nigerian-American girls are not for you. You, as a man must learn how to cook as well. Clean the bathroom. Wash dishes and other ways you could be of assistance to her. They are not your typical ”villa girls”. If you plan to date/marry a Nigerian-American babe, be prepared to split the cookings/chores - the same way you will always split many of your bills.
(7). They can be sometimes arrogant and snobby
Many of them can ghost guys for Africa sha especially when they find you socially awkward or not possessing the physical features they desire in their man or you don't look like what they prefer. I find this to be somewhat childish tho. It's part of the unnecessary ”growing class division” within the Nigerian community here.
( . Treat them right. Take good care of them and support them. They are our sisters and brothers!
CAVEAT: These points were made based on my own personal experience. Another person may have a slightly different experience. ONE LOVE NAIJA ❤️. LOL. I get many invites for dates and lunch and all that when I’m there for visits. The OP is true. They are super ambitious, independent driven, quite rich and, in all cases I’ve seen, desperately want to settle down. I remember going for a wedding— I was still in the second year of my PhD— and this man, having realised that I was from his region in Nigeria, tried “selling” his daughters to me. Beautiful, exciting prospects. But it was very clear. None of them would actually act as a “wife” when married. They had all the tendencies of bossing one, instructing and leading the man in the marriage. And you can’t blame them. They need the marriage because, they really believe it is the “cool”’thing to do. Kids and all that. But they are not ready for what, Biblically and traditionally speaking, constitutes a “wife”. I think it is silly to be looking for a Nigerian man if you want to boss him around. That is foolisness. OP stop whitewashing them and tell your readers the good and challenging aspects of these our lovely sisters. |

Also, if the rise and fall of a country's economy (which can simply be termed as money) is a major factor in the direction marriage takes, then i think something is really wrong with the this thing called Marriage. What is the essence of marriage if a woman will only stay and be happy with me when i have but will become aggressive, uncultured, depressed, moody, untouchable for sex and in most cases pack out when i don't have anymore. Don't you think it looks somehow? Why owo epo? When a woman will only lick my hand with sugar and not a bitter one? Then it is safe for me to struggle a lone, enjoy my life when i have and drink my garri alone when i don't. Our context doesn’t in Western nations. Danielfx: No doubt I had doubt if her love was genuine. I have asked myself just how to get the truth out of her head. She came with tales of love, always making me feel like a king. Yes, she told me she thinks about me every seconds and how scared she becomes thinking of losing me.
This relationship started barely a month ago. We started as friends and eventually she became my girl. She was intrigued with tales of my ex and how hopelessly i drowned in love with my ex, how my ex gave me the shove of my life and how i wanted someone to change my obsession.
Then she came, she acted well but the connection just wasn't there but i had to play along and for the first time in my life, i felt what responsibility is, all her expenses became mine and she barely said no to anything i thrilled her to (do you want ice cream ? Yes... Do you want apple ? Yes..).
I became worried because she was a liability, always taking and never giving. She couldn't advise me in the simplest of assumed situations and making love to her doesn't excite me that much because i barely feel the thrust during sex... She lacked bedmathics and financial management. So, obviously she offered nothing.
So I called my friend and confidante to advise me about her, Afterall i was becoming unhappy each passing day with her. He told me to test her, "simply refrain from giving her a dime for now...."
I went to her place and after our usual boring moments i left without giving her money (I usually give her money). I arrived home and settled down to reminisce about the day, just then i realised she didn't call me. Oh no, she always put the call first so what could have been wrong. I texted her, thanking her for the moment we spent talking that evening and finally she called. We spoke for few minutes and bamn, she told me she wants to get busy with her chores, okay. The minute went bye, an hour, 24 hours, a day and few hours and still no call...
Why should i put the call Afterall, i offered her what most guys wouldn't and the only and one thing she had to do is call me to atleast say "Danielfx i miss you...."
Well, i learnt a funny lesson. She ain't loyal.... Her voice: “It’s just business”. |

kahal29: The crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) reached a denouement yesterday with the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. Davidson Iriekpen and Nseobong Okon-Ekong look at the victors and losers of the new phase in the party
WINNERS
Osaze Ize-Iyamu: Inching Closer to the Prize
He is often acknowledged as one of the founding fathers of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who helped to set the body rules with which the party is governed. A former Secretary to the Edo State Government, Ize-Iyamu’s quest to become governor on the platform of the APC was thwarted in 2016, forcing him to seek a similar opportunity in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He lost in the governorship election to the incumbent, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Ize-Iyamu’s return to the APC came with a lot of intrigues and political melodrama that reverberated round the whole country.
In the wake of the Court of Appeal’s ratification of the suspension of the then APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, who is the driving force behind his candidacy in the party, many had thought he might become a collateral damage in the power struggle in the party.
However, at the meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) yesterday in Abuja, his candidacy was ratified to make him one of the big gainers from the crisis in the party.
Kayode Fayemi: Sphere of Influence Increases
The Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has definitely increased his sphere of influence with the outcome of the recent APC National Executive Council meeting (NEC).
If anyone harboured a doubt the closeness between Fayemi and President Muhammadu Buhari, the veil has been torn for all to see that Fayemi, who is among those behind the scene working to restore peace to APC, has the ear of the president.
Quietly pushing for a political settlement to the APC crises, Fayemi worked behind the scenes along the the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Bagudu.
The main body of the proposals from Fayemi and Bagudu to Buhari was adopted at the NEC meeting.
Abubakar Bagudu: Successful Captain
From almost being subsumed in the fight against bandits that devastated much of his state, Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State also had another headache to contend with in -the different battlefronts with keen gladiators, fighting for control of the APC. As Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, he was like the captain of a sinking ship.
Bagudu shares the credit for successfully steering the threatened ship out of troubled waters.
All Progressives Congress (APC): Saved from the Brink
Since its formation on February 6, 2013, the All Progressives Congress (APC)has weathered many storms that threatened to make it go under, largely owing to the powerful interest groups that came together to form the party.
All the crises that have bedeviled the APC can be traced to the stubborn pursuit of individual goals against the communal or general interest of the group. These past seven years, chieftains of the party, valued federal and state legislators and state governors elected on the APC platform, have parted ways with the party, often through bitter quarrels that deal telling blows on the APC.
Each time, however, when the opposition was ready to sing nunc dimitis for the APC, the party rises again, rejuvenated, like a cat with nine lives.
Mai Mala Buni: Rising Star from the North
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State is a rising star from the North who was for a long time National Secretary of APC and the understands how the party secretariat works, meaning that he appointed most of the staff members and therefore will find no difficulty in restoring stability to party affiars. Even as he was one of the governors supporting Oshiomhole he is seen as a neutral team player and a pair of safe hands by all sides of the conflict.
LOSERS
Bola Tinubu: Taming the Lion
He has on several occasions been referred to as a master of political strategist. Never in his wildest imagination would he have thought that this would happen to him. During the countdown to the 2019 and when the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari kicked off, he was busy putting people in strategic places, indirectly oiling his political machinery, widely believed to be used to achieve his rumoured presidential ambition in 2023.
But all these came crashing down yesterday with the dissolution of the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC by the National Executive Committee at the behest of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The dissolved NWC is peopled by those considered loyal to him, especially Oshiomhole, who he backed at the time of trouble.
The first sign that things were not going his way was when the president on Wednesday snubbed his faction of the NWC and recognised Victor Giadom as the party’s acting national chairman. The dissolution of the NWC, despite the protestations by members, was considered as part of a larger plot to tame his presidential ambition.
Therefore, with his loss of the national structure of the party, his undeclared presidential ambition has suffered a setback.
Despite the consolatory appointment of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State into the new caretaker committee, Tinubu would have to go back to the drawing board to reset his presidential ambition.
Adams Oshiomhole: He Has Lost the Battle, will He Win the War?
Clearly the battle to save his political legacy in Edo State has suffered a major setback in his war of attrition with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki who he brought into politics from Lagos Corporate life at the expense of his traditional loyalists.
Though he may have succeeded in paying Obaseki back for being allegedly ungrateful to him for making him governor, that comes at a huge price. He got his fingers burnt and lost his highly influential party chairmanship.
Oshiomhole went about his fight with Obaseki in an unrelentless manner as if there was nobody to call him to order at his initial reluctance to fight with Obaseki. But in trying to pull the governor down, which he succeeded by gaming the system to force him out of the party, he went down with him.
Even if he gets settled with a ministerial, ambassadorial or board appointment, it can never be like being the national chairman of a ruling party at a time when the nation prepares for a political transition. Oshiomhole is bloodied but certainly not to be counted out. He has lost the battle, but will he win the war.
If Obaseki by any chance wins his second term bid, he may find it difficult to enter his own Edo State.
But Obaseki may have won the battle for the PDP ticket, but it remains unclear whether or not he can win the war for his re-election.
Victor Giadom: Shove Aside after a Yeoman’s Job
The Rivers-state born politician shot himself into national reckoning in the last few weeks as he made a grab for the party’s leadership position in the wake of Adam’s Oshiomhole’s suspension.
However, many will remember Chief Victor Giadom, former Deputy National Secretary of the APC as the spoiler who nearly wrecked the APC. His appearance on the scene after the suspension of Oshiomhole was upheld further factionalised the party. His subsequent activities nearly drove a nail into the coffin of the APC.
But to those familiar with political intrigues, Giadom was a pawn in a complex chess game of power.
Now that he has served his purpose, he has been shoved aside along with his colleagues in the NWC to save the queen: APC.
Chief Hillard Etah: Pawn on the Chessboard
The National Vice Chairman in-charge of the South-south was hardly known beyond his zone. That was until colleagues in the leadership of the party pushed Chief Hillard Eta forward for the post of acting National Chairman to hold the fort for Senator Abiola Ajimobi who ought to have occupied the position in the aftermath of Oshiomhole’s suspension, if not for his hospitalisation.
However, his insistence, along with other NWC to oppose other party leaders’ bid to resolve the crisis by kicking against yesterday’s NEC meeting, showed that there were other considerations driving their position.
APC NWC: Sold to Outside Influence
While it may be a case of throwing away the baby with the bathwater or one oily finger soiling the rest, the point that has been made is that the National Working Committee of the APC as previously constituted had bought into the vision and dream of one powerful individual, line, hook and sinker. Therefore, allowing any of them to remain in office could mean leaving a window of opportunity open for control by outside influence at the expense of stability in APC.
https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/06/26/winners-losers/ Tinubu would be a terrible student of history if he believed that what happened to Afonja, Awolowo, Abiola wouldnt happen to him, Tinubu.
