Lol @ the applause .gif. Heard the black guy was interviewed, and confessed he was a bit drunk. That he doesn't normally act like that. Yeah right.
Though the old man is a wayward sha. He went to jail for drug pushing when he was younger - and he's still using. That's prolly where he gets his superhuman strength from, LMBO.

SeXyBoNE:
Nairaland for me is more lively

honestly, i dont like fb, and i dont know why they have such numerous members
Because pple put so much stock in having 5,324 "friends" in their profile and think they have achieved something tongue. Or is it the virtual relationships they make with people they might never even meet?? Only in some cases are their real-life friends involved. The rest is just make-believe. At least on NL there is some semblance of reality tongue.

Not to talk of how some molesters, rapists and killers use facebook to meet, "groom" and lure innocent girls into their traps. Perverts.

I laugh at everyone who's making a fuss of an issue so petty  cheesy cheesy tongue tongue - and at the hypocrisy you're showing cheesy cheesy cheesy!! You're all just posturing - you wouldn't give a hoot if the General in Avatar had mentioned North Korea or Congo - countries that are just as "failed" as we are. Yet at the mention of Nigeria, you're all up in arms - as if you care about this country!! sad sad It's proof that you're all just desperately trying to cover up your own neglect of this nation. As far as I'm concerned, we don't have any moral right to protest being pilloried and being put in a bad light by obviously more enlightened people! So stop the posturing!! lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed
Are you quite done?? "Obviously more enlightened people?" Since when??
Look the impact we make even without really trying. They can't shoot a decent movie without making some passing comment about Nigeria. It must be catching. Why should we care if Congo or North Korea is mentioned? Would they care in our case??
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland Is More Lively Than Facebook by maedan(f): 5:26pm On Mar 09, 2010
Sam Milla:
Let me try to explain a little for you.

If you check on nairaland, it says "Online in last 10 minutes"

Now if seun increase that to 20 minutes, that 1400 users online at a given time will be doubled to 2800.
You get that ? Easy enough lady.

Ok , in that same 10 minutes , facebook hosts 100,000 users online at a given time,

Can you see that ?
As at one year ago, facebook has 350 million users. Real time users ,
Thats why i said you cant compare them,
Come now bro, I said case rested!! (a lawyer would understand, Mr. Internet guru grin)
But ok, ok, I'll pretend I get your point, just so we can agree to disagree.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland Is More Lively Than Facebook by maedan(f): 5:13pm On Mar 09, 2010
Thor:
LMAO

Facebook has over 350 million users grin grin grin

You can not compare Nairaland with such a social networking giant grin grin grin
Lol. And upon this I rest my case cheesy.

The topic should have read, Nairaland or Facebook - Which One is More Important to YOU??
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland Is More Lively Than Facebook by maedan(f): 5:05pm On Mar 09, 2010
Sam Milla:
Yes , Nl is lively in its own,  thats why you dont have to compare it with facebook.
Its a lively site, actually the most lively nigerian website but again,it cant be compared with FB.
Sam Milla:
It depends on what you do on both sites.
There was a time i visit Nairaland 20 times a day and facebook twice.
But now i visit nairaland 3 0r 4 times a day and visit facebook about 20 times a day.
It all depends on what you do on both sites.
Just what is your stand? That they shouldn't be compared, or that "it depends"??

Sam Milla:
Then about 1400 users online at a given time,
it could be more than that if seun raises the online time to one hour or two hours or more.
It can be dramatically reduced if he takes it down to 1 minute.
Speak in English please. What exactly are you on about??

Sam Milla:
Lets just say i know about SMF and nairaland far more better than you.
Yes, yes embarassed. And that makes me feel so scholastically deprived cheesy tongue.
RomanceRe: Why Dont Naija Babes Care Abt Their Shape(body)? by maedan(f): 4:40pm On Mar 09, 2010
Ujujoan:
Well, the poster's obviously silly so I woundn't worry much about what his impressions are! As for the other doodles who think '90% of girls are flabby-armed and big-bellied', I thibk they all need to take a good look at themselves first. Fat sists better on women that on men and sometimes I wonder why the guys just don't understand that! undecided
Hey chill out, gurl cheesy. The truth is, fat isn't healthy, whether it sits well on a person or not!! I'm not saying all fat, overweight people should commit suicide or hate themselves. But a small change in diet and lifestyle can go a long way.

Before you get too excited that we got free promotion (the unobtanium-seeking-general also prided himself in wars fought in Venezuela with the common denominator being mineral resources with the most valuable being Crude Oil for Nigeria), don't forget District 9 that had 90% of 227 critics giving the film a positive review irrespective of an embarrassing portrayal of Nigerians and this scene off The simpsons comics where we got verbally attacked for scam mails. Ergo, a one step forward, two steps back thing!

https://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy219/akin_photo/thesimpsons.jpg?t=1268147140
Lol @ the Simpsons' barb. I guess no publicity is bad publicity. So maybe, in fact, we are happy we're being mentioned/talked about at all. It makes us feel relevant. If that's our only contribution to Hollywood, then so be it grin cool.

Ujujoan:
I'm sorry where did you get your statistics from  huh  undecided

I know a lot of girls and I can count the ones with flabby stomach and arms!  undecided
maedan:
It's high time we girls change this impression that 90% of our gender has flabby stomach and arms and stretchmarked skin.
Like I said, it's an impression that most guys have about us. I never said it was a "statistic" or a factual figure. The poster has this impression, perhaps due to the handful or so he's seen/known. I for one know obesity, or at least, big-bellied, flabby-armed chicks, is a commom phenomenon. It's time for a change tongue.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland Is More Lively Than Facebook by maedan(f): 4:04pm On Mar 09, 2010
People are being unfair in their comparisons between the two. Sam Milla, I mean, come on -
Sam Milla:
Seun himself knows the differences between nl and facebook.
They cannot be compared in anyway.

1.)  70% of nairalanders are on facebook.
0.05% of facebookers are on nairaland.

But how is that a bad thing? Are all facebookers Nigerian?? This is first and foremost a Nigerian site, not a world site

2.)  now while nairaland is rich on info about naira
fb is rich on info about every other currency out there including naira.

Ditto above.

3.)  while nairaland is hosted on aproximately 270dollar/mon server [including thr nairalist]

facebook is hosted on 10,000 dollar/month server.

while facebook has about 5000 workers
nl has one worker [seun].

Now this is UTTERLY unfair tongue.

4.)  while facebook can host millions of applications from millions of members
nairaland hosts none.

a site can be lively, can in fact exist happily, on zero applications whatsoever. All it needs is members.

5.)while facebook is a custom script
nairaland runs on an SMF script and its free.

Hmm. What ever grin.

6.) while facebook is in hundreds of languages

nairaland is on 1.

I could have sworn I saw a few threads in other languages on NL. . . undecided

now individually, we all have what we do on both sites.
if i want to feel at home and tell jokes that nigerians will understand, i come here.

if i want to connect to the world, i go to facebook.

6.) mathematically  facebook = the whole world + nigeria
nairaland = nigeria minus the rest of the world.

Na lie!! many foreigners frequent and even contribute to the site. I have seen quite a few cool.
As we speak, this site has about 1,400 users online at a given time. A quarter of those are actually registered, frequent members. So I guess it's safe to say that NL is lively in its own right. Facebook is a social site, Nairaland is a society. Most of the time wink.

Ridiculous yes but it will soon achieve "hot topic" status with 25 replies or more. And yes, I'm helping wink tongue.

This Avatar sef I need to go and see it. But I hate the Pocahontas-foreigner-falling-for-indigene theme.
RomanceRe: Why Dont Naija Babes Care Abt Their Shape(body)? by maedan(f): 3:48pm On Mar 09, 2010
Poster I think you are right. Only a few have a fitness awareness or even care what they put into their bodies. They simply console themselves that good clothes and make up can cover a multitude of sins. It's high time we girls change this impression that 90% of our gender has flabby stomach and arms and stretchmarked skin.
TV/MoviesRe: Avatar, Insult Or Exaltation To Nigeria by maedan(f): 3:44pm On Mar 09, 2010

Fairly used ones could be stressful; I am still enjoying mine anyway.[/quote]Yep, the BB Storm series boasts a great big screen. But the more popular BBs are the Bold and Curve. I guess the Storm was meant to be an improvement on the smaller screens of the other BBs. What's the use of a smartphone if the screen is not much bigger than your everyday mobile? Maybe I'm just biased cos of what the iPhone 3Gs has to offer.

Hmm where do I start? From its yeye little screen to the slow way it loads and then the qwerty keyboard is a mess - I've used the Palm smartphone before so I know how a proper qwerty keyboard feels. My husband uses a blackberry and I hate it!! It's stressful to use, and I'm good with gadgets so don't think that's it. it's just an annoying phone but I dare not tell him that tongue.

Comparing Nairaland with facebook is like comparing apples with Oranges. While one is a forum(Nairaland), the other is a social networking site(facebook).

nairaland is fast becoming less lively. It's just the political section that seems to be much lively.

Poems For ReviewTime To Say Goodbye. . . by maedan(op): 12:21pm On Mar 09, 2010
Just when the flame dies
Just as the dew dries
On the leaves you'll know it's time to say goodbye

Unbind the tie
Don't ask me why
I must leave you

Please dry your eyes
I can't tell you lies
I must go

But take pleasure
In this treasure
I give you
O I wish I could stay

And yet I know
Sure as the winds blow. . .
I must go.

At the risk of sounding like a walking ad for Blackberry here goes. I guess I happen to be among the few BB owners that actually use majority of its features. I still prefer the size of my Flip to the newer Bolds/Curves/Storms etc. The others are just too bulky for me. Used to be Nokia fan but now very pleased w/ my bb flip. Different strokes for different folks!!! smiley
Yeah, the flip one is cool. That's a BB I could buy cheesy. But seriously, whether you use all the features or not, does the phone deliver? In a majority of ways I think the BB doesn't.

Truth be told,if the publishers and contributors to he Awake, watchtower and similar magazines
were Nigerian men of God,i bet we 'd be paying compulsorily for Awake by now.
LOL. Nigerian men of God don suffer!!
So that's the next thing to say eh, that Nigerian Churches/men of God are greedy/money-crazy??
I don't want to name any names, but please go to the United States and see how they are running things. Ok, I will mention names. T.D. Jakes produces books, audio and video CDs, podcasts, programmes. Dude, you pay for everything. Try asking T.D. Jakes to start giving one of his bestselling literature out free. You'll get the reply you deserve grin grin. (I love TDJ by the way).

So you see, we got this materialistic view from outside. It's not a Nigerian thing. You need to understand: things cost money. Salvation is not a thing. The Grace of God is not a "thing". So can we please stop the comparisons right here and now. Peace wink.
