The answer is in the explanation. The most important position is the GK and should be sorted ASAP. Our GK is very ill-suited to possession-based football. Our 6 is manageable for now. Our 8 is ill-suited for other reasons. Out of our GK, our 6, and our 8 our GK is the most ill-suited to such football. Of course players like McFred and AWB are not suited to it as well but they are not as important to the team

Also, nobody said we have to make only one change per transfer window, but the rate-limiting step in our change to a possession-based side is the GK.

My problem now is, with this current Man U squad, they can't play possession based football even if DDG is changed oooo.

That being said I hope ETH will change DDG for you guys, so that there will be no more complains no matter the outcome.

In the mid late 2000s and 2010s when teams did not press like this and teams still played long most of the time, the most important players in a possession-based team were the 6 and maybe the 8.

Now that most teams press very high and most teams play out from the back the most important players in a possession-based team are now the GK, the 6, and then maybe the 8.

Pressing high was the tactical solution to the problem posed by the possession-based teams of the 2010s. The keeper being an exceptional passer and an extra outfielder is the tactical response of the possession-based teams to the problem posed when team started to press high.

If you think in simplistic terms of goalkeeper saves and clean sheets you will miss the big picture.

Good explanation why a ball playing goal keeper is needed but the question is still not answered.

No one is scapegoating him. He is simply the biggest culprit. Look at both sides of this argument very well. One side is blaming De Gea just as much as they blame other players. The other side is everybody while finding excuses for De Gea.

Meanwhile their keeper cannot catch penalty. He cannot help out his defenders and come out to claim crosses. He cannot pick out a pass. No be madness be that?

Now that is the point I am getting at, Man U currently has bunch of players to blame every game. Running around with DDG as the scape goat is just an agenda.

I won’t blame De Gea for that first goal but I think he could’ve done more to save the second one. Apart from that, his poor passing skills also prevented us from playing out from the back.

We lose possession needlessly so many times. Imagine what chances we could’ve created if that didn’t happen.

But that’s just one of the major problems we have. Our attackers are also not clinical and lack proper decision making in the opponent’s box. Greenwood or any clinical striker will massively improve our goal haul. It’s a shame we might not see him in a United shirt again.

I believe we should work our way backwards. Once we start scoring goals, better midfield ball retention, we can get a better goal keeper.

For now, getting a better keeper with this same players won't change much.

Just my thought though. I could be wrong.

DDG is responsible for stopping the ball from going into the net. He failed at doing that.
We can assume he is useless, no problem.

That is 1 useless player out of 11 players. So we have 10 players left.

On the bright side, The squad can only get better from this point. A strong bench that can be rotated effectively will do us a lot of good. Those suspension for Case, injuries to Eriksen and Varane bleeped up our season. We should be looking at a CF to start, 1 CM that can go straight into the team to play with Case and be rotated with Eriksen. A very talented CM that can play both roles in the double pivot and lastly a proper ball playing GK that can command his box. After those 4 transfers we can look to shore up the team based on departures.

Guys like DDG, Henderson, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Fred, Martial and VdB should be told that they have got no place in the team. Their agents should start shopping them around from June 1.

DDG is one of the best things ETH has in that squad.

Until Man U improves to a point where they stop making silly mistakes before ETH can focus on getting a goal keeper that can play from the back better than DDG.

Re-watch all Man U's matches under ETH, if you remove most of DDG quick reflex saves, Man U will be nowhere near that top.

The guy will always be broke and will always be in one money problem or another. And he will always be in trouble with his friends and possibly family.
