That's my position as well. How can JAMB determine standards for all schools, that's ridiculous. |
EasternActivist:I don't admire offensive people, please learn to be civilized. I said what shaped the 20th century landmark in Nigeria were majorly those empires that lasted till the western powers came, that resulted from restating my earlier statement because I saw that u misconstrued it to mean what I didn't intended. That's up to u now to digest. Today's Nigeria historical landmarks are shaped largely by Kanem Borno, Oyo, and Benin Empire apart from the Utman Dan Fodio Islamic Emirate. The Nri kingdom is more ancient like Ife and its full of assumptions that gives rooms to alot of doubt if the fallout is the present Igbo of Eastern Nigeria, may be its like Arabs claiming to be the builder of Egyptian Empires! Mind you, I believe am discussing with someone who should be learned and not one emotional being. When Philips came up with story of being from Benin, alot of igbo folks treated his position as a taboo, that in itself makes it difficult for anyone to challenge any childish propaganda on historical findings in that part of the country. I want you to read in between the line because u can only hold me responsible for what I say not what u think. For u to say u are better than I am there must be something I can learn from u, something that must attract me to u, if there's nothing in all facets of life in which u can claim to be better then, what justifies u to b better? You are your own judge sir! Its not igbo people only that buy and sells in Nigeria, they are not the only people that can lay claims to individuals successes(by implication what I said earlier) but for instance, I respect Germans because not just that they can claim to be astute innovators but have also translated that to nation building in their country and associated sister states. Has the Igbo done that? Has the igbo turned Enugu to the most admired capital in Nigeria, has Nnewi becomes the technological capital of Nigeria? To brag you are better, I want to see your stuffs; economic value chains, political structures, educational advancements, your arts, your historical cultures, your historical relics in the last 500years as a people, achievements of tour empires/kingdoms, your spiritual evolutions etc. Am not hereto play my people down, but lets be realistic with what we say we are whosoever we may be. shalom |
EasternActivist:You need to learn about historical landmarks sir. The last of all the empires were those mentioned of which u can still see their landmarks. Ife, Ugbo, Nok, Zazzau were all ancients kingdoms but alot are subject to assumptions and historical constructs. Superiority infers others must have something to learn from you and individual achievements cannot be taken as the standard for nation building if such haven't translated to a communal advantage. |
Chukazu:I don't know what versions of history you read or if you were part of the civil war. Biafra received a whole lots of technological transfers, ammunitions and mercenary from France and a couple of other countries, I don't do rantings and I laugh at people making such points as yours. ingenuity cannot die out because its innate, how could you have argued that someone tried to kill your brain or products? Whatever the Igbo does today is after effect of what she learnt through such helps received during d war.Am not saying we are or igbo aren't good or trying, but to say you are ahead in cutting edge technology make me see u as an ignorant (with all due respect). Innoson is a fabricating plant in partnership with Asian company, like many Nigerians doing great things abroad like Philip and many doing well in Nigeria the truth is, Nigeria is still a developing country and the igbo country isn't the most developed part yet, igbo ingenuity must put their abode as the best for all to accept that superiority. Take for instance, I chose to attend Stanford after graduate degree in Nigeria because I believe studying more there will help me know more about the subject matter, lets say I could do that in a Federal uni in the East, at least I should be able to to that in a state uni since their lecturers should be the best.i hope u get me. |
mbatuku2:its important people think like modern day citizens. Even if you have your point as to who a group of people are, your opinion cannot supersede their own historical perspective. Consider for instance the issue of China and Taiwan, some want in and some want to belong out, the truth is, not jus Ikwere but others in Delta and elsewhere, they can chose where to belong and your continued iron fist propaganda will continue to point at your intended high handedness if there's ever an igbo country. |
I feel the last president that actually made discreet appointments in Nigeria was Obasanjo. What is going on now started during GEJ and its possible the cycle will continue in subsequent regimes. Believe me the President has the power to appoint whomsoever he wishes. |
What do I feel about all these? I feel the pan igbo online agitators or historians are looking for ways of validating Igbo ownership and grips on Porthacourt and its territory. While I cannot for a fact dispute or accept their claims, its pertinent that they know that United Nations article recognizes human right which include the right of tribe that owns Porthacourt to be what and who they want to be. That a group speaks igbo language doesn't necessarily make them Igbo. For example, people in Southern Kaduna speaks Hausa being close to and has acculturated into Hausa doesn't make them Hausa, so, that basis is completely wrong. I honestly think the igbo country will be determined by what groups stand to gain if they should be part of it and not by a forcefully coercing people because they dress or speak igbo, that's will be a reflection of lack of cosmopolitan civilization in that part of the country. What makes a race or ethnic group superior? Without any unreasonable debate I think such people will have with them at least 200 years or more of civilization, empire, human advancements, cosmopolitan culture and linguistics, what do writers of those books had to show for it? The truth is that in the last 600 years in the areas now called Nigeria, only three major empires lasted into the 20th century; The Kanen Borno, Oyo and Benin Empires. There are smaller kingdoms though like Tsoede, Jukun. I believe superior people should demonstrate superior organization, governance, commerce, historical relics and linguistic standardization. In the event of a Nigeria disintegration which I do not hope for really, the Igbo may find it incapable of earning the trust of their neighbors and actually cone up with a much smaller country except they wish to wage decades of protracted wars that may work against it in the long run. igbo superiority should be showing in today's Nigeria by leading in cutting edge technologies, medical advancements, political sagacity, cosmopolitan developments and in faith or religious evolutions, alas these aren't so, so on what basis is igbo superiority based? Africans are struggling and its a general stuffs, the igbo aren't better and in fact, have political structural challenges and are in most cases find it difficult to evolve a communal based human developmental ideas over individuals desires, now that's an African problem and igbo is not exempted may be even in a deeper quagmire. |
Haha this is unacceptable. I think more youth corp members should give us stuffs like this so as to expose the hypocrisy of our leaders. This is an abomination really and I think all d human right activists, environmentalists and NDA should start asking questions from Niger Delta leaders, NDDC and Ministry of Niger Delta. This is really appalling!! |
ademusiwa5:Sir, that is a fat lie. Go check them out |
Wow. Please just pursue your passion, you've got a great future in this.Load more especially on daytime lets see what you've got |
This data revealed some salient points to note: 1. Students can show apathy to schools deemed to be hard in securing admission I.e.UI, Unilag, OAU,FUNAAB, FUTA 2. Students showed interest in Unilorin most probably because of no disruptions to academic calendar although the school is one of the top ten in Nigeria. 3. This data is not representative of standards existing in these school e.g. ABU is very popular in the North and one cannot be surprised how many people living in the that part of the country that want to attend the school, same with UniJos 4. About half of all applicants won't have university admission, that's terrible! 5. Cost and standard can be determining factors in choosing a private university |
We must admit that even if some of Buhari's policies look late, there are clearer approach than many previous regimes. Statistics are no longer brandied to show feigned performances for political and cheap popularity. The growth often announced by NOI our Harvard Economist were often circulating the oil and gas sector while apart from Adesina's process on improving the Agric sector, there was no such thing as holistic growth. Some people were critical of those who called GEJ regime a failure, needless will I say because his performance rating was like someone who made provision for his home like he earn 100 thousand when his real income is 1million naira, the gap is scandalous. What the current window mean is that you can peep, at least you are free to but you must wear a face guard to be sure the new monster isn't roaring for an ugly catch.Your risk management, trends analysis and trading skills must be sharpened. The guard against spread and basing transactions on OTC if not undermined by the very power that run the system should guide against speculators. I see a 220-260 naira to a dollar by December 2016. |
UI yes.pls check the PG school website |
It may be very difficult to fault or validate the claim on Yoruba population but we can assume his estimate on Yoruba population in Nigeria will apparently be correct. Taking the population of Yoruba in Brazil and the Latin American countries, the population of Yoruba should at least exceed 100million and within the West Coast African, Yoruba kinsmen should be up to 5million outside of Nigeria aside immigrants looking at indigenous Yoruba in Benin, Togo, and Ghana. |
misanho:Were you at Unilag MBA or MRM. I like your opinion. Aside the risk ratings, foreign exchange etc also have impacts. Just leave these children to rant on ignorance. Am tired, you can hardly learn anymore on this forum |
congrats, to God be the glory |
Really, that's what people criticizing the current government should look at. 6years without a headway, honestly, he didn't demonstrate sufficient courage to lift his region out of environmental brouhaha there. |
I seriously did not know the macroeconomic effects of the Jonathan's team on the economy. The fiscal policy or the FX management they left behind call for questioning. That Nigeria's economy was rebased during his tenure did not mean the growth responsible for Nigeria becoming the largest economy in Africa actually happened during his government. The growth was due largely to the telecommunication sector which was liberalized during Obasanjo's regime, the Nollywood that has been growing some 10 years before and some other sub sectors of the economy. Neither inflation rate nor cost of borrowing went down to support consumer index and I keep looking at the political propaganda of that regime as the tool used to create a make belive Hollywood style bravado. If all the revelations bradished today against that government turn out true then it actually wrecked more havoc than good, with billions leaving the economy which would have solved all power, transports, water and education problems in Nigeria. Its quite disappointing. Let NOI come out and defend her policies, those sectors that actually grew during that administration; it was all within the energy sector that feeds less than 5% of the population, the real sector continued to suffer because all these Harvard and Yale CERTIFICATES ARE GOOD but NOT ENOUGH TO EMPATHISE with the feelings of the common man who are suffering from economic neglect. I think what Buhari government lack is an economic advisory council which can look at pros and cons of policy managements and help the President decide. I actually see the President changing his Finance Minister to a man and wielding tremendous influence in bringing Nigeria back on track |
Yes, if my report is anything to go by.My friend, now a lecturer at Umuahia was the best student in her set. She won 6 awards and was actually very brilliant. Painfully enough I was d only elusive award but if I should use her as a yardstick, then the school must be good enough |
jerseyboy:I honestly do not see this as fair.To the best of my knowledge, this is the most lopsided arrangement ever. PMB needs to urgently address this issue or what about d heads of all other parastatals before we start to crucify him, are all majorly northerners ? |
Three things because of time: 1. The hope of the mew republic is hinged on oil, and taking clues from what Dickson and Sylva said, if there ever going to be a Niger Delta republic or Ijaw republic, then , it might be a lawless welfarist state. 2. I don't really think the Yoruba will lose as many are postulating here. Firstly, many of d offshore oil will fall under that country beside their new discoveries. I think through international boundary adjustments many will be shocked that like the case of Bakassi, what u think are yours now may actually not be yours when international laws become applicable. I also think the Yoruba can claim as far as Ode Itsekiri and Escravos which will give them sufficient energy resources and harness its existing infrastructures for its growth. Among d lines of division in Nigeria, the Yoruba has the best chance of survival as a country. 3. The Igbo do not need oil to survive.I believe their continued romance with Niger Delta is for d purpose of commerce through d sea, not that the Igbo country can't survive but the tendencies of accelerated progress can be more assuring when there are seaports. People often deride the Hausa, I pity you. They are exposed to such vast land that can make a huge success. |
Drop a phone number and lets discuss Lagos |
Nigerian youths(many are actually children). In term of infrastructures in Nigeria, Abuja city is number 1. When you begin to break it down as per states then maybe you can begin to compare FCT with Lagos.Even the Dutse Alhaji I saw in the list of slums displayed by someone is now a really fast developing town. If you pick Lagos after Abuja, then you can begin to look at the next city. As someone who has traveled Nigeria, you will be pressed between large and small cities; large like Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna and small cities like Porthacourt, Enugu, Ilorin, Akure, Owerri and calabar, sokoto, Gombe, Abeokuta, Zaria Challenging cities such as Aba, Umuahia, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Onitsha, Okene, otta,Warri,Maiduguri, Bauchi, Ilesa, Ife, Much smaller cities like Minna, Ondo, Ado Ekiti, Uyo, Asaba, Osogbo, Ijebu Ode You see, these are in different categories and it may be difficult to categorize them together. There are also emerging cities like Lafia, Lokoja, Katsina,Gusau, Nsukka, Abakaliki etc They are faced with different challenges and are at different socioeconomic. |
My cousin told me Americans know how to do the right thing and not vote Trump. He actually told me he wouldn't win the primary. Trump is rapping into the fears and cares of the ordinary Americans; jobs, immigration, terrorism and China |
seyigiggle:I disagree with you. My knowledge of the North is absolute. Their problem isn't laziness at all but illiteracy and religion. I've seen a meruwa get like 6gallons of water from a well almost 300meters deep. They can persevere for real. But their outlook on life is lack of ambition based on religious beliefs. The educated among them also like to feel cool without doing much. Hausa people are good farmers |
raker300:You can check me up, I don't join issues with emotional elements on Nairaland. I do intellectual discourse and will take you for an ignorant(permit me please). Please name those companies taken forcefully from Igbo that others lived on and abandoned properties in which part of Nigeria? I honestly respect the doggedness of our people but to praise the frailties of man to such high heavens as to make angels weep is the height of self destruction! |
raker300:I do not know how old you are sir/ma but we must all admit that your states just like every other state in Nigeria receive Federal Allocations. These states also benefited from post war reconstructions and humanitarian donations. Haba! enough of preaching self- aggradisement and obsession with self love, ego and pride which the Bible says leads to destruction. All core Igbo states received allocation from the Federal Government, many of them end up in individual's pocket some of which are carried abroad and some built some of those structures the @op showed us, this is everywhere in Nigeria and no part of this country can absolve itself of having not benefited from the incomes of this country. I once heard that Onitsha- Owerri road was contracted severally to indigenes of that area but the work was not executed, now part of the money for the road would have found its way into construction of various buildings and even private businesses etc. The road will remain undone and people will think its the government that neglected them, no dear, its our people who through self love built estates and palaces for themselves but leave the poor to ride on their feet while dinning inside SUVs. The efforts of the Igbo people are commendable especially in trading but we must begin to look beyond importations which drain our economy and enrich traders. You must also realize that what majority of traders sell depends on the market provided elsewhere. Take for instance, if there are a million Igbo traders in Kano, its just a common sense to know that aside these a million traders there are buyers with purchasing power that patronoze them or all others are also Igbo? I just want everyone to see that across Nigeria are structure like the @op saw. Let's just be rational a bit for instance, the South east is a concentartion of 14million plus people in an area that is about the size of Oyo State or Benue State(if am not mistaken), just cramp all the houses elsewhere in Middle Belt or Southwest region there and see if you wont have a densely populated kind of settlements that can easily be convincing. I mean, bring together for all cities and major towns in Northwest into that space. My people, the governors in the East have less roads to asphalt than Borno/Yobe/Adamawa and just a little more infrastructures that Lagos should provide in terms of population( I did not mean to deride them please) so what have they done with trillions they have received since the advent of democracy in 1999. You will agree that every part of Nigeria is affected and every limitation before the South East is also before people in other regions and I don't mean to say there aren't no reasons for grieviances |
Every faith must in itself be a path of light through the darkness that becloud human sphere. Faith, beliefs must demonstrate the core exigencies of God's love, perseverance and acceptance of human weakness. Any faith that cannot be self propagating through extraordinary occurrence like the dead rising, the lame walking etc is not providing sufficient proofs of its own potency for humans, limited in power of execution of such do submit to such extraordinary renditions. But when evil take up the pretence of good then we can but resort to the transformational peace we attain, the secured lives we live and the path of progress humanity is found when we bear within ourselves, our faith in God renown for His good deeds, never will He force His place on us but always wanting to show His love. God is love and never confuses. |
I think there are some core historical enclaves that can open us up to key historical feat like the history of places like Idanre, Ikole, Ijero. Do you care to explain to me the meaning of 'orunmila' descending from Ikole orun to Ikole Aye' I once read of "on" pronounced 'orun' in ancient Egypt, could there be any relationship? |
Am completely impressed by @Macof. I strongly believe the ancient Ife is to the East of today's Yoruba country. The Oyo version of Yoruba history is the most recent but @Macof, is there a link between Ooni of Ife and Ooni belonging to the Igala? The aborigines of Ife were not Igbo people of today's Nigeria but Ugbo people which would stand for some in the present East of Yorubaland. It will be of interest to explore the historical versions of Yoruba in diaspora especially Brazil, Cuba and Trinidad together with the cultural versions to get semblance of what may look like true stories. Macof over to you. |
blunt1990:Am most impressed by the level of response in this thread. At least I've found something to cherish on nairaland. please enroute Ph.D, can I make a conversion from a professional Masters to M.Phil say a Professional Masters in Risk Management to something in Political Economy or Public Policy? please how do that work elsewhere? |
