1) In comparison to the US, Canada and Australia; UK is the easiest country to get University admission and procure Visa.

2) A Masters Degree in the UK is quicker or faster to get - it is 1 year while those of US, Canada and Australia are often over 1 year.

3) Make sure you have money for at least 1 year tuition fee. Although you will be allowed to do 20 hours of work per week, the money you will make from this will only take care of your expenses or part of it. If you rely on it to pay first year tuition, it may not work. You can get subsequent session’s tuition fee or part of it by working hard during the summer holidays when you are allowed to work full time.

4) You are expected to return back to your country after completing your studies, except you are offered a job by a UK employer. This is very difficult to get because there are laws tying the hands of the employers from employing non EU immigrants. If you must come, never resign your job in Nigeria if you have one.

5) Having an additional skill like hair barbing, hair weaving for girls, web design, web marketing, etc may put some extra money into your pocket if you know how to market yourself but this is not guaranteed.

In conclusion, conduct an extensive research on what to expect academically, financially and generally before taking the step. This will enable you to hit the ground running and know what to do after you finish your studies.

Since you have earned the interest upfront, the penalty will be deducted from the principal. That is how it is done, if you want further explanation consult your bank.

I contacted my broker and he insist that my units with them is 2650 and when i contacted the registrar they said that my units with them is 3430.
Who among them is right and who among them is wrong and how /what will i do about such so as to make sure my units with the registrars is equal to that with the stock brokers?

You said you take 12 periods per week, but you forgot to tell the house that you are given other responsibilities like parenting in your school. Looking at it from the break-even point of view no school can be profitable, when teachers teach 12 periods out of the recommended 40 periods per week.

I am passionate about teaching. I love what I do. I'm comfortable where I work to an extent. Once, I experience inconveniences, I take succor in the gains of my passion. And if I feel my servics are not well appreciated, I repackage my resume and off I go in search for other places till God establishes me to have a school.

No matter what, you will get to that stage in your career and organisation when your service will no longer be appreciated. That is the bitter truth.

Tah. Let me hear word. What do you mean by under utilized. Come and give me 37 periods [/b]now, so I can know I am teaching. In my school, the highest you can have is 18 periods. Those that are doing 27 periods a week, how much are they paid? Work like an elephant and eat like an ant. Tufiakwa.

Btw ,[b] I also do parenting aside teaching. And I don't work in Lagos state.

No teacher can give his best by teaching 37 periods in a week. But if you combine Literature with English, that will give a total periods of 21 for week which is just okay.

Funny enough most graduates at the moment of being interviewed, over express themselves that they can teach all subjects and multitask. They won't stick to one or two subjects they are good in. When they resume and share the periods, they will cry foul. In my present school, though I can teach English, literature and French; I told them I can't teach literature but can teach English. And when I resumed, they wanted to shove it my way and I reminded them of my statements during the interview. And it was given to someone else. I teach only English now and for 3 classes with 12 period per week. So don't blow your trumpet. Don't say you can take all science subjects because the school at the end of the day will want to save money by dumping all the subjects on one person.

Dust and edit your c.v ,keep searching and you will definitely see the one you can enjoy

Love what you are doing.
Be very good at what you do.
Go the extra mile in whatever you do.
Be focused.
Have a target of how long you want to stay in the labour market.
Invest in yourself, develop good character and personality.
Start planning for your retirement or resignation on the first day you join the labour market.

When you do these, you will have confidence, happiness, peace of mind. This will make your colleagues and superiors to marvel at your PMA, you will also be surprised at the opportunities and possibilities that will be magnetised to you.

For someone that has been unemployed for six monrhs, the individual just want a job to keep body and soul going irrespective of the pay and working conditions. Some ask questions but when you look at the number of months you have spent sitting at home, you will grab the job.

Even at that nothing stops a job seeker from asking about his workload, he or she also need to ask people working in the school about the condition of service. I will never employ anybody who says he can teach maths, physics, CRS , Science etc.

Rather than picking up a job in April and start looking for another job in May, I will do my due diligence before accepting an offer. Job hopping by teachers is not in the best interest of the teacher, employer, students and parents

Any teacher that teaches 12 periods in a week is under utilised. The average number of periods approved by the Ministry of Education for a teacher is between 20 and 24 periods.

The only reason why school administrators will allow a teacher to teach 12 periods and below is when such a teacher is given other leadership or auxiliary responsibilities. Eg if you combine your teaching of English with Public relations/marketing roles.

What is the essence of the interview? If the job seeker cannot ask questions about his/her job description, conditions of service, workload, remuneration etc.

Have you not heard of schools where students write reports or give comments about teacher at the end of the term and the principal use it to crack jokes.
The annoying thing is that, some would prefer to die in silence than voice out. I do not give a hoot about the fact that most of my comrades (teachers) follow this thread discreetly... I for begin mention their names.

The examination malpractice is so annoying. My school would preach shun examination malpractice on the assembly but yet go on to practice it-double standard, you see them(teachers-married men plus those clerics) carrying textbooks (even teachers of the subjects) to give the correct answers to a particular questions, little wonder "standard schools" test you based on WAEC or G.C.E questions, which shows clearly the teacher is not qualified in the first instance.
I no go lie... I detest this profession because of what am seeing.

mr ravenskar, welcome to the laureates world of arbitrary management decisions!!.. as a former staff member and someone who has tasted the bitter fruits of lc's summary dismissal style of management; i feel you. Mr Lanre here by the way.

@ Lanre you have to thank God for everything, every worker should be prepared for the unexpected. Most of the people sacked or dismissed from lc in the last 4 years are definitely doing well for themselves compared to those who are still there.

Been trying to keep mute on the aforementioned issue, but since u'r privy to their modus operandi permit me to break the ice. More so, he who does not speak, does not run the risk of letting his pipe out. I left Laureates College not because of the stress (cos I was able to absorb it comfortably) but because of the school's policy of prioritising their customers even at the detriment of their staff.

Imagine an SS3 girl telling me to my face that I'm a fool. I simply couldn't stomach it and so, I dealt with her appropriately by flogging her. Mind you, it wasn't the first time they will be forming 'gangster' for me, but all my previous diplomatic approaches were taken for granted. At that stage, I felt enough was no longer a feast, it was simply enough. So, the management in their usual 'pragmatic' way of handling issues decided to fire me. And guess what? I moved on without even apologising to anyone.


That's just what transpired Sir. If anyone had told you something differently, then, such a person is being economical with the truth. Lolz!

Most private schools whose owners are not teachers/educationists are fond of doing anything to keep their customers at the detriment of their workers. As a matter of fact, they rate their students higher than their human resources who are the teachers. To compound the woes of workers in the educational sector you will find out that most of the leaders ie principals and vice principals are not bold enough to correct the anomaly exhibited by their pay-masters or pay-mistresses.

A teacher in one of the biggest schools in Lagos reported a student who called him a fool, to the management of the school. Can you imagine that the management in their own wisdom, told the teacher that if he had not behaved like a fool the student would not have called him one.

Do you mean firing you is a pragmatic move? With that decision of the school, they would have succeeded in having three Biology teachers in one academic session. I should be given an award as the longest serving Biology/Agric science teacher in the school. I taught Biology and Agric Science for five years before becoming the VP.

I also resigned my appointment with them after staying their for 8 years, because it got to a stage when I could not stomach the insults and crazy expectations from top management.

99% of ppl that sell land are dubious. No friendship in the business. Building is also not easy. The omonile wahala and the rest. You may also get tenants that are troublesome.

Last week, I went to a location I have property and what I saw there was not funny. Opposite our area, all d fence and properties were demolished. I found out that each property there has been sold to at least 3 ppl. The man i saw with the wife doing foundation opposite mine is no longer the owner of the property. Court cases will enter. Jazz things.

Asaba is even the worst. They will sell ur property to another person even if u have a gated fence and a security house with no tenant living. A day b4 they bring a prospective buyer to the place, they will break ur key and put their own. Once they arrive, they will use their key and open the padlock making the buyer believe its theirs . chikena.

My father bought plots of land from Ogun State government for his children in 1985 at Adigbe estate in Abeokuta, by the time I wanted to build on the land in 2000 I found out that the government of Osoba had reallocated the land to politicians because the area is now a prime area. Whereas the volume and value of shares he bought for us around 1985 had grown in leaps and bounds.

Whether the land is bought from omo-onile, estates or government if you do not have the cash-flow to build almost immediately you are speculating and will definitely backfire. People who can successfully speculate on real estate are land surveyors, lawyers, military guys and government officials.

I just bought back a plot of land I purchased at Ifo Ogun state on Thursday 21st May 2015, the land was bought about 10 years ago and I stopped at the foundation stage in 2011. When I wanted to commence work about 3 weeks ago, omo-onile did not allow my work men to clear the land nor work. It was last week that I presented all the documents like survey plans, purchase receipts etc. But the guys insisted, I must buy the land again and unfortunately the baale and heads of the families that sold the land are now dead. I had no choice but to buy back the land.

BGL is finished no matter how you look at it .... From a reputation point of view or the tough sanctions already slammed on it!

I was in CSCS on Friday 22nd May 2015 and not less than 12 clients of BGL came to make inquiries on how to transfer there investment from a dead or inactive house. That mean SEC has now classified almighty BGL as a dead or inactive player in the Nigerian capital market.

It is one of there mutual fund products. I have a stockbroking account with BGL which I transferred to CSL about 2 weeks ago due to poor customer service at BGL in the last 6 months.

My account officers advised me to buy some of their mutual funds, but I am not a mutual fund investor. I believe mutual funds is for the uninformed investors who do not have the knowledge and time to personally manage their investment.

As a matter of fact BGL securities is on of the top 10 stockbrokers in Nigeria, the problem is with the parent company is BGL group and the asset management subsidiary.

There are indications that the current fuel scarcity may not abate unless the Federal Government pays the outstanding N200m reportedly being owed the oil marketers as subsidy claims.

The oil marketers, who confirmed to our correspondent that they had stopped importation, said they could not continue with fuel importation as result of inadequate funds.

They spoke through the Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Obafemi Olawore.

Olawore, along with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, also denied the report that they were on strike.

He said they were still waiting for the Federal Government to call them to another roundtable on how to pay the N200bn fuel subsidy owed them.

Olawore said, “We are not on strike. People are just painting us the way they want. We are not importing because we don’t have the money to buy the products. The government has not invited us. The only thing we have heard is the resolution of the Senate on Thursday and I think that they are going to invite us soon.”

Out of N356.2bn subsidy the government reportedly owed oil marketers, the Ministry of Finance paid the sum of N156bn about two weeks ago.

With about five days to the handover of power to a new administration at the federal level, tanker drivers in the country have also stopped lifting fuel from the depots, leaving many filling stations without the product and others selling at exorbitant prices.

The General Secretary, NUPENG, Mr. Isaac Aberare, said tankers drivers would start lifting the product as soon as they received the directive to do so, insisting that they were not strike.

He said, “If there are products in the depots, we will go there and load. Remember that the Lagos State Government gave tankers drivers 48 hours to leave the road instead of clogging the whole road and making navigation difficult; we have complied with that instruction. Any time there are products, we will go and load.”

In its response to the lingering fuel scarcity in the country, the Senate on Thursday directed its Committee on Petroleum Resources (upstream and downstream) to commence a full investigation into the causes of the persistent fuel crisis.

The directive was made following a motion by the Deputy Senate Majority Leader, Senator Abdul Ningi.

Ningi said, “We need to know whether fuel scarcity has come to stay. We need to know whether it has become part of our lives. We need to plan.

“By planning and talking about it, we are now sensitising Nigerians to brace for the impending issue of fuel scarcity whether it is going to be here permanently or it is temporary.”

The Federal Government is still spending about N1.81bn daily to subsidise the Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise called petrol, notwithstanding the nationwide scarcity of the product.

Latest figures from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency show that the government is paying N45.28 as subsidy for every litre of petrol consumed in Nigeria.

Specifically, the agency, in its pricing template released on May 21, 2015, based on prices for May 20, 2015, stated that the Expected Open Market price or total cost for petrol was N132.28 per litre.

This was against a retail regulated price of N87 per litre. The difference between the EOMP and the retail price is therefore N45.28.
