President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday spoke on the defection of top politicians from one party to the other.
At a lunch with some APC governors accompanied by some members of the national and state assemblies and commissioners, the president wished the defectors “good luck.”
“For those who have decided to change camp for whatever reason, we wish them good luck,” he said.
Scores of political office holders and their supporters have changed parties in the past few months in the build up to the 2019 elections.
Some of the defectors include Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara and ex-governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom. While the first three left Mr Buhari’s APC for the opposition PDP, Mr Akpabio, a senator, moved from the PDP to the APC.

A Professor of Environmental Microbiology at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (FUNAI) Ebonyi State, Prof. Chuma Conlette Okoro has reported from a research the potency of cow urine as a major raw material that can be used to remediate problems associated with corrosion and souring in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
Okoro who spoke at 2017/2018 PTDF annual oil and gas research grant competition close-out seminar held in Abuja on Wednesday, said that the technology can save Nigeria up to $600 million annually which is the original cost of managing souring and corrosion related problems in the industry.
“The major challenge we are having today in the global oil and gas industry is microbial resistance used to fight corrosion and souring,” he said about the research which was funded by the PTDF.
“Now, we are looking at the future of green biocide we can actually synthesize here without wasting our scare foreign exchange and we are looking at the potency of cow urine as a major raw material for that green biocide.
If that urine becomes effective it will save Nigeria a lot of money from sourcing foreign exchange. We are hoping that the oil and gas industry will massively invest in ranching and that would help in solving the farmer/herder crisis,” he said.
Speaking on the research, the Executive Secretary of the PTDF Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau said Prof. Okoro’s work was among five others the PTDF has funded within the 2014-2015 research grant cycle. He said the Fund’s focus was on homegrown solutions to the basic challenges in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.

The Buhari Campaign Organization, (BCO) has tagged Senate President, Bukola Saraki, ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Senator Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state among others as big disasters to democracy.
The group also labeled them as empty vessels that only make loud noise without physical muscles to match Buhari's integrity and popularity .
The group made the claim through its National Coordinator, Alhaji Danladi Pasali in an interview with newsmen in Jos on Wednesday.
The group explained that the defection of Saraki, Atiku and Kwankwaso among others to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wouldn't serve as a threat to President Muhammadu Buhari's reelection bid come 2019.
He said, "Their defections would not affect the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 and our party is ever ready to deliver on its campaign promises to Nigerians no matter the plot to distract the government."
He added that their defection was the best thing that happened in Nige ria's democracy considering that they are "hypocrites" and "moles" within APC.
He said, "These are people who left PDP to join APC thinking of themselves and their personal ambition but under President Buhari they didn't get want they want and then left again. They are a big disaster to democracy."

Buhari, who returned to Abuja from London on Saturday after 10-day working holiday, is to observe the Eid-el-Kabir sallah in his hometown.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, at the State House, Abuja, signed the Instrument of Accession to the International Cocoa Agreement, 2010.
It followed the Federal Executive Council approval for Nigeria to accede to the International Cocoa Agreement, 2010.A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said that following the execution of the instrument of accession, Nigeria undertakes “faithfully to abide by all the stipulations therein contained” in the Agreement.
Among other benefits, the Agreement, he said, is to strengthen cooperation between exporting and importing member countries; improve their cocoa economies through active and better focused project development and strategies for capacity-building.
The 2010 Agreement is also expected to build on the successes of the 2001 Agreement by “implementing measures leading to an increase in the income of cocoa farmers and by supporting cocoa producers in improving the functioning of their cocoa economies.”
It will also “deliver cocoa of better quality, take effective account of food-safety issues and help establish social, economic and environmental sustainability, so that farmers are rewarded for producing cocoa that meets ethical and environmental considerations.

Parents of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 have refuted claims by Reuben Abati, presidential spokesperson under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, that the Federal Government under the former leader had rescued many of the girls.
The former aide had disclosed, during a television interaction with Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s special adviser on media and publicity, on Wednesday, that the girls were sent to study in the United States and the United Kingdom after their release.
He said the then National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, advised Jonathan against publicising the release so as not to reveal the girls’ identities.
He asked Adesina to verify his assertion from the DSS and the nation’s intelligence agency.
While the two security outfits have yet to react to Abati, the chairman of Chibok Parents’ Association, Yakubu Nkenke, yesterday denied that any of the Chibok girls was found by the Jonathan administration.
He said it was under the present administration that secured the release of 107 of the girls from the captors.
Nkenke said even Amina Ali, the first among the abducted girls to be found, breathed the air of freedom after Buhari came to power.
The parents expressed disgust at such a comment, saying Abati could only make sense if he meant that he and other officials of the Jonathan government freed some of the girls and held them away from their parents.
“Does he mean they rescued some of the Chibok girls and are keeping them somewhere? If that is what he means, then they should immediately release the girls to us.
“What we know is that the Buhari regime negotiated for and secured the release of all the girls we have with us now. Soon after their release, I was called to Abuja to identify them. These girls are currently at the American University of Nigeria, Yola under federal government’s full scholarship.”
Nkenke called for continued efforts on the part of the Federal Government to free the remaining 112 girls still in captivity, saying some of the parents were traumatized while 32 had died.
“We thank Baba Buhari for his commitment to get the girls, yet we call for more efforts to free the remaining girls,” he said.

The Kogi state government is set to clear outstanding salary arrears of workers in the state within the next three months. The state commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Ashiru Idris who disclosed this also hinted that workers and pensioners claiming to have been owed for upwards of 20 months salaries and pensions were those who are not on the cleared list and no longer in government pay roll. Idris described as malicious claims that government was owing workers and pensioners more than 20 months salary arrears. “All the cleared civil servants whose names appeared on pay roll have received their salaries up till April 2018, while the pensioners have received their pensions up till February this year”. Commissioner Ashiru stated. He lamented that those civil servants claiming that state government is owing as much as 20 months are not being fair to the government noting that Governor Yahaya Bello was so magnanimous by pardoning several workers after the appeal, stating he had assured them that their outstanding salary would be paid in due course.
The commissioner also admitted that the debt profile was N102 billion, stressing that this comprises of the N33billion debt inherited from the previous administration, 3 months unpaid salaries from last administration, unpaid salaries, pension, unpaid leave allowances and so on.
