Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, Ogidi District, in Anambra State, was set ablaze on Monday morning by unidentified criminal elements, leaving about 32 utility and operational vehicles all burnt, including other assets and equipment within the premises. The Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, who relayed this development through a release issued today, stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, 16th May, 2022, at about 1.45am. Ezeh lamented that efforts made to reach the Anambra State Fire Service at the time to come and rescue the situation did not yield any positive result, leaving members of staff who were on ground to assist in salvaging the situation helpless, as they watched the office building and other assets go down in flames. READ ALSO: Electricity: FG targets 10,000 mini- grids for rural farmers According to him, “it later took the intervention of the Honourable Commissioner for Utilities, Anambra State, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, at about 9.05am this morning to bring the Fire Service team down to the scene of the incident”. The management of EEDC expressed shock over this ugly incident which is happening at a time the company has invested so much to improve on its operations and transform the socio-economic landscape of the area. “This is a big loss to EEDC, and a great setback to the efforts being made by the company to strengthen its network and improve the quality of service to its customers within Ogidi and Anambra State at large”. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/just-in-hoodlums-set-ablaze-eedc-ogidi-station-in-anambra/ mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun seunmsg OyigboUpdate |

Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) postponed the screening of its presidential aspirants to May 23 to allow former President Goodluck Jonathan and others to submit their nomination forms after the deadline, SaharaReporters has learnt. It was learnt that the party had also told the screening committee that they were not to screen Presidential aspirants. The screening was supposed to take place on Sunday but was later postponed. The party had also closed the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms last Thursday, while the deadline for the submission of the forms was midnight on Friday. However, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu in a statement on Saturday announced that the screening of the presidential aspirants had been shifted to May 23. “The screening for the presidential aspirants, we have so far 28 presidential aspirants. “As you are all aware, some aspirants have started withdrawing their aspirations. By God’s grace, on the 23rd of this month, those who are left will be screened properly,” he had said. A party source, however, told SaharaReporters on Monday that the action was taken to allow Jonathan to submit his nomination and expression of interest forms. “They did that because they want to give room for Goodluck Jonathan and a few others to submit their forms after the deadline,” the source said. “The party has also told the screening committee that they are not to screen Presidential aspirants.” A Northern coalition had purportedly purchased the APC presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for the former President. The forms were purchased days after Jonathan had asked his supporters to “watch out” after he was asked if he would contest. SaharaReporters’ investigation later revealed that Jonathan had given the Jigawa State governor, Mohammed Badaru, N200 million to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms for him and also buy for himself, to deceive Nigerians. mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun seunmsg http://saharareporters.com/2022/05/16/exclusive-ruling-apc-postpones-presidential-aspirants’-screening-allow-ex-president |

Saudi Aramco has posted its highest profits since its 2019 listing as oil and gas prices surge around the world. The state-owned energy giant saw an 82% jump in profits, with net income topping $39.5bn (£32.2bn) in the first quarter. In a press release , the firm said it had been boosted by higher prices, as well as an increase in production. The invasion of Ukraine has seen oil and gas prices skyrocket. Russia is one of the world's biggest exporters but Western nations have pledged to cut their dependence on the country for energy. Oil prices were already rising before the Ukraine war as economies started to recover from the Covid pandemic and demand outstripped supply. Other energy firms including Shell, BP and TotalEnergies have also reported soaring profits as a result, although many are incurring costs exiting operations in Russia. Energy security 'vital' Aramco's president and chief executive, Amin Nasser, said on Sunday that the company was "focused on helping meet the world's demand for energy that is reliable, affordable and increasingly sustainable". "Energy security is vital and we are investing for the long-term," he added. In March, the oil and gas producer pledged to ramp up investment and boost output significantly over the next five to eight years. Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited the world's biggest oil exporter that month to try to persuade it to release more oil into world markets in the short-term. Saudi Arabia is the largest producer in the oil cartel Opec (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) and by raising production it could help to reduce energy prices. But the country has been condemned for a range of human rights abuses: its involvement in the conflict in neighbouring Yemen, the murder in 2018 of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, for jailing dissidents and for widespread use of capital punishment. Aramco itself also faces security challenges because of the conflict in Yemen, with Huthi rebels targeting some of its sites and temporarily knocking out a big portion of the kingdom's crude production. Its latest set of results come days after Aramco reclaimed the top spot as the world's most valuable company from Apple for the first time in almost two years. Aramco also announced on Sunday it would issue 20 billion bonus shares to shareholders - one share for every 10 shares already owned. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-61455301 mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun seunmsg puskin FOD dominique naijacutee |

Chelsea defended their Women's FA Cup crown and completed the Double in dramatic fashion as Sam Kerr scored the winner against Manchester City in extra time in front of a record crowd at Wembley Stadium. Kerr, who put Chelsea 1-0 up in the first half, kept her cool to slide in a deflected winner after City had twice come from behind. Emma Hayes' side, who won a third successive Women's Super League title last weekend, were 2-1 up in normal time before substitute Hayley Raso netted an 89th-minute equaliser. That came after Erin Cuthbert's stunning strike had put Chelsea in front, following Lauren Hemp's curler for City on the stroke of half time. City had several chances throughout the match - Hemp was denied by goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, Laura Coombs fired inches over the bar, while Caroline Weir and Georgia Stanway had efforts deflected wide. Chelsea's resilience and determination to put bodies on the line was crucial in their victory as Jess Carter's sliding intervention stopped Ellen White from scoring for City in extra time before Kerr's decisive goal. The Blues, who have now won this competition four times under Hayes, celebrated completing the domestic Double in front of a crowd of 49,094 - the highest in Women's FA Cup history. It is their second piece of silverware in seven days and is the perfect send-off for departing trio Ji So-yun, Drew Spence and Jonna Andersson, who have all played their role in Chelsea's success this season. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/61435273 mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun semid4lyfe honeric01 Mannabbqgril https://africa.espn.com/football/report?gameId=634286&device=featurephone mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun seunmsg semid4lyfe honeric01

Over 500 female students of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
University Bauchi and their counterpart from the Bauchi State
University, Gadau, are to stage a street protest in Bauchi while half
naked.
ASUU had in mid-February this year announced a four weeks
rollover of the previously suspended strike, citing government’s
failure to keep to its commitment to the agreement reached with
the union leaders. In March, ASUU further extended the strike by
two months arguing that the federal government was not serious
about addressing the matters the union is agitating for. At the end
of the two months grace period ASUU extended to the federal
government this month, the union extend the strike by another
three months.
“So far, we’ve contacted more than 500 female students and they
have agreed to participate in the protest and we’re expecting more
before the final day.
“As law-abiding students, we’ve been patient enough, our future is
in danger because of some unpatriotic citizens who only care and
are concerned about their children and families,” one of the
organisers of the protest who does not want to be identified said.
She said they would follow all legal means available to them to put
more pressure on both parties to ensure that universities in the
country are reopened soon to enable them to continue pursuing
their various academic programmes.
LEADERSHIP Weekend recalls that the National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) had protested the extension of the strike
by ASUU. The students vowed to carry the protest to the National
Assembly and block airports in the country. They tagged the
movement: ‘Operation to Test-Run.”
