My brother, You dey mind dem? They are making lame arguments. The Current World Bank President comes from a Medical background. Our former minister of Agric, from Agric background is the current Head of Africa Development Bank............. Jimoh Ibrahim is a Lawyer, Hakeem Bello-Osagie is a Lawyer, Subomi Balogun is a Lawyer.......... uwajeh: Can't help but say, Onicha Ugbo Kwenu!!! For those who query the appointment based on the fact that he is a lawyer please be reminded that the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Madame Christine Lagarde is a lawyer and not an Economist and she has done a fantastic job at that organisation. Chief Ernest Shonekan studied law but that didn't stop him from becoming one of the icons of Nigeria's industrial sector.
Prof. Pat Utomi initially studied Mass Communications but he is one of the most brilliant economic minds in Nigeria today. Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has been in the oil and gas industry for donkey years and I am certain he has learnt the ropes during that time. You don't rise to be the Executive Vice Chairman (Africa) of the largest oil company in the world by being a dunce.

laudate: Thank you, jare! People find it difficult to understand such basic issues. I remember once while supervising logistic operations at a gas field, at the discharge point we noticed that water was leaking from the gas turbine, where gas was being fed into the unit.
My boss who was a petroleum engineer immediately called up the head of field operations and barked: "which of your wells is producing water?!!" They couldn't tell stories to him, because he knew his onions. Sharp, sharp the guys on the field had to do something to address the situation. Can you imagine if my boss had been a lawyer?
Na plenty memo dem go dey still carry up and down, dey find cause of the problem until dem tire!
Meanwhile, this same Kachikwu is against the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB). Read all about it here:
Kindly note that IOCs have been against the PIB for like forever o! Kindly note that he did not even provide solutions that could make it work. Bros, You are using analogies that are not the same scenario with the context. 1. There is a difference between the Group Managing Director and an Asset Manager or an Operations Manager. 2. Your second argument is baseless. Kachikwu is there representing an entity and not himself, so saying he opposed the PIB, is ridiculous. Besides, he laid an argument which you failed to comment on, analyze or rebut..... |

Bros your argument is flatly wrong 1. There is a difference between technical capacity and Leadership capacity. Having both is a big plus, but having the former alone does not qualify you for leadership of a company not to talk of NNPC 2. Petroleum Engineering and Commercial aptitude are what you pick on your way up. If you're in a good organisation and you're identified as top talent and prepared for leadership, you would have been put to a packaged rotation program that will take you round the various aspects of the Oil and Gas value chain, from technical to commercial. This will give you the basic requirements needed to lead the business. The mistake many people make is that because it's Oil and Gas, an Engineer should lead. Truth is, those with the deeper knowledge and insight will properly define the business from the value perspective and tell you that the business is about creating value from crude sales, as such engineers are just a part of the critical requirements. 3. The former MD of Shell in Nigeria, Mutiu Sunmonu, had a first class in Computer Science.......... need I say more I believe the wisdom in bringing Ibe-Kachikwu is to have a change in paradigm, someone from the private sector to reinvigorate and re-engineer NNPC; a clear departure from the politicians and career NNPC civil servants....... laudate: What NNPC needs at this time is a seasoned petroleum engineer with commercial aptitude, that can think outside the box.
All other contemporaries of NNPC like PedeVesa of Venezuela, PetroBrass of Brazil, Q8 of Kuwait, Statoil of Norway, Saudi Aramco, Sinopec of China, etc, have all added value to their countries, by actively buying out oil-related assets around the globe to increase the foreign exchange earning capability of their companies/countries, increasing local refining capacity on their home turf while remaining good examples of well-run commercial enterprises.
Such an engineer should drive the establishment of modular refineries to increase refining capacity at home, while pushing for the successful rehabilitation of existing ones using local expertise, as was done recently. Such an engineer should also place premium on the exploitation and commercialisation of our gas reserves in country, to drive the Gas-To-Power Programme and other such projects.
Would a corporate lawyer be able to balance all these? I strongly doubt if Kachikwu has expertise in this area. |

1. Then don't start with the liner.... "Yoruba with Charms.........". Makes you come like a bigot. 2. Your bias should be stated clearly in this case, rather than a firm statement. If you looked at the topic, the OP was coming from a descriptive and explanatory perspective and not a debate of it's existence or otherwise 3. My biases aside as well (I don't believe in them either), but I do recognize them as part of the makeup of Yoruba history and heritage, which in this thread serves for knowledge purposes. 4. Our parents would have told us a thing or two about them, either in Alo (Yoruba folktales/Stories), directly explaining or Analogies. I remember a funny story told by Pastor Adeboye, about the Madarikan charm, in one of his sermons - about a man that went to do the Madarikan charm from an herbalist, only to return to the herbalist that he had gone to penury since the use of the charm. It was then explained to him that the charm drove away everything (both evil and good)....... fransixe: its a simple fact that the era of such practices are gone, just trying to alert any one who might be ignorant enough to try them out! especially those ones wey dey eye one babe or the other for NL, make them no go F up |

twosquare:
: I am most intrigued by inventions of "Kanako" and "ofe" by our forefathers. These two charms would make Harry potter and his minions jealous of African science. As a scientist, "Kanako" is a called road shortener, actually it should be called "space-time manipulator". How were our fathers able to develop these potent charms that rubbishes modern physics law of relativity? Ofe is simply a simpler form of "space-time manipulations", in those days, "ofe" was only invoked when in danger.
Now, my thoughts: 1. Could our forefathers have used Kanako to travel from one point to another while migrating?
On a softer note, there existed a form of Kanako in Igbo culture. With Kanako, you could travel from Lagos to Kano in a matter of seconds! I like your thoughts on road shortener, but their is always a price to pay for Kanako, especially. It is often used on urgent matters, dire situation and when you are running out of time to save an important situation. When you use it, your spirit will still come back and walk that same distance in the middle of the night.
.or it takes you to a dangerous and unexpected destination, on top of a tree, in the middle of wild forest or inside water and you cannot swim.... |

Matthew 5:43 YE HAVE HEARD THAT it hath been said, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR, AND HATE THINE ENEMY.
Matthew 5:44 BUT I SAY UNTO YOU, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, BLESS THEM that curse you, DO GOOD to them that hate you, and PRAY FOR THEM which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for HE MAKETH HIS SUN to RISE ON the EVIL and on the GOOD, and sendeth rain on the JUST and on the UNJUST.
IF YOU LOVE YOU DON'T NEED TO INFUENCE AND USE REMOTE CONTROL ON ANOTHER BY EVIL POWER NOR DO HARM, EVEN TO YOUR ENEMY.

For someone that was booted out of the Presidential Fleet for corruption, how he made it to CDS is a big wonder..... san316: This is an indictment on you Mr CDS
1. You lacked equipments, what happened to the billions spent on the military for procuring arms and ammunition? Where are the equipments bought with it?
2. The soldiers were not motivated. What happened to the duty and operation allowances meant for the soldiers? You are not coas but you should have knowledge of the entire defence spending which the army is under. For five years, no soldier got his allowances ranging from furniture and so on. How can the soldiers be motivated?
In the end, soldiers that put their lives in the line were dismissed and those that dared to complain were sentenced to death.
And mind you, it was a celebration galore in the armed forces when your sack was announced. |

Sometimes it is better not to go into argument with someone with reasoning like you, and this is one of them. I can't even imagine what value will come out of a wasted argument exercise with someone who has no iota of idea about how diplomatic engagement works, muddled up supposed purposes, distort facts and ignorant of "whys" in this cases............... Let me give you some quotations from publications to keep it simple " President Obama arrived Sunday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for talks with leaders on counterterrorism efforts against al-Shabab in Somalia, and human rights abuses and looming famine in neighboring South Sudan. " http://www.democracynow.org/2015/7/27/obama_visits_ethiopia_and_kenya_land" Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in neighbouring Cameroon on Wednesday for talks on how to combat the escalating regional threat from Boko Haram Islamists. Security was tight for the 24-hour visit, after a surge of Boko Haram violence in Cameroon including an unprecedented series of five suicide bombings in the far north." BraniacX: Obama visits when he wants to influence policy in other countries or to sign deals that have been months and years in making through silent and unheard of negotiations in the background by foreign ministers and ambassadors, every diplomatic avenue or venture between Nigeria and Cameroon has been explored by the previous administration even up to paying their soldiers hazard pay and paying for ammunition and Cameroon are fighting Boko Haram because it is in their best interest to do so not because we asked them to so what exactly is buhari visiting for when a phone call would have sufficed? He's touring round the world while bombs are exploding here on a daily basis so educate me with your "educated enlightment" http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/buhari-arrives-cameroon-to-discuss-boko-haram-fight/#sthash.z2QeqI88.dpufThat mumbo-jumbo in the underlined up there as generic as it is, is not necessarily the reasons why presidents get off their seats............. |
