So if you you enlist the service of a head hunter and he came up with that list after four months, you will give him thumbs up and then hands his pay cheque, right?
I don't need a head-hunter services to go after people like Fashola, Fayemi, Dr. Chris Ngige, Rotimi Amaechi, Abdurrahman Dambazau (rtd), Ogbonaya Onu, Kemi Adeosun, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Ibe Kachikwu, Udoma Udo-Udoma and Ahmed Isa Ibeto, Amina Mohammed. I will head-hunt them myself.

Their exploits, strides and relative successes both in government and private sector is enough evidence for me that they are solid leaders, managers and technocrats in their own right.

Why don't you do the forum a favour (same goes to you lots throwing the word "technocrats" ridiculously around). why not suggest names in this forum and let's review the profile.

...and so I decided to open a thread where I objectively raised some salient points, backing same with relevant authorities when counter-arguments were put forward by some civil nairalanders. Having taken a calm look at most of the comments this thread has elicited, I can not but realize that some people are so pained that when ever they come across any thread not singing the praise of PMB, they trow caution to the wind and resort to name calling and making primordial arguments.

Well, for the sake of knowledge and the furtherance of same, I make bold to challenge any one who thinks he/she has what it takes to objectively water down any of the points so raised in this thread, to indicate and step forward.

Until that is done, I will allow y'all to be having the fun of your lives, while I observe from the back seat cheesy
@OP
1. I'm trying to place your gaffe here. Is it the case of educated ignorance, blatant arrogance, ridiculous ignorance or crass immaturity.

2. There is absolutely nothing wrong in punching holes in PMB's speech. If the motive is altruistic (as it is obviously not), then it will serve to enlighten our collective development. Unfortunately your heading itself gave you away, what international embarrassment?

3. It will seem to me you have unfortunately overrated your intellectual capabilities. Not that you don't have them, but humility can lighten it up many at times. You'll have appeared smarter, If you've approached this from a POV of opening up a debate. You claim to have painstakingly reviewed the speech, yet you demonstrate shortcomings that belie your "painstakingness". I mean quoting referencing that are not certified, not understanding contexts and getting into the complicated mess of what should and should not be revenue generating agency?

You refused to discus further on NCC, so i assume you admit you did not look critically at the fallacious academic work that says NCC is not a revenue generating agency. Even at the begining of GSM introduction in Nigera, NCC sold GSM licenses for more than $600million. Glo alone bought the 2nd National carrier license for 1billion dollars.

I left out the CBN delibrately because the CBN is more complex. It is not strictly a revenue generating agency as its function is primarily to act as a Banker to the federal government, But ECN101 would tell you that CBNs all over the world also acts as banker to the private banks ie commercial, investment and all other banks. Now are you telling me CBN provides banking services to Banks for free?

You are just looking for excuses to insult your president (yes, your president), and you look for the most stupid excuse to do so.

About the discrepancies in the populations figures, you should know that Nigeria's population figures is in dispute. Even the website you provides says;

The figures were not termed official like the others, it is just an educated guess. So you are just making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Besides a Nigerian president (on a day like October 1st) WILL only rely on the CURRENT and OFFICIAL census figures and not some random website or supposed UN figures

Some of these guys are so irritating. Haba. They complain about everything. Should 50 ministers be appointed from the SE for them to be satisfied?? There are 5 states in the zone and going by fair representation, if 36 ministers are to be appointed, only 5 would come from there. Now, only 21 names so far have been mentioned, each of them representing a different state, yet they complain!!! Should an Igbo man be appointed to represent a state from the North, West or any of the other zones?? They call Nigeria a zoo, next minute, they complain about appointments in the zoo!

It is utterly disgusting.

Just look at the other one throwing careless insults- go to his profile and look at his pic- an animal wouldn't live in that room!! Yet he insults everyone.

I'm sure he would have taken down the shameful pic by now.

Unfortunately the irony is on what basis will you be in the capacity to employ. If you're still in the delusion of equating an HR position to a man who has attained the highest height and pedestal in terms of training, exposure, leadership development and made it to the president(a position which you are yet to even conceptualise), does that not suggest that your still an infant in understanding leadership and management?

Bottom line, as much as they r both well educated, I have doubt over their ability to deliver.
Ability to deliver what specifically? Ministerial work is more of competence and less of street politics. Once you're appointed, it's off to work and the impact is seen both in the performance of the ministry and the collective results of the government.

Fayemi headed the Strategy machinery of APC that defeated an incumbent government. Soludo is a well sought after comodity to the extent that his engagement with World Bank is on consultancy basis.........these guys are talents that we need to exploit or we loose them to other nations.

Everything you mentioned here are good points. But they are still in the context of an all round education
francizy:
I still maintain that skills does it all. Education to me is just a plus. Academic learning without skills to back it up, does little to elevate one especially in a difficult country like ours.

If I had known how much skills are worth, how much people make for doing what they love doing rather than what the society wants from them, I'd have studied either Fine Arts, Architecture or Industrial Design. Because these are courses laced with real time practice whether in an advanced country or a country like ours. I used to be very good at reproducing pictures with pencil. Now I would have probable made millions doing my own thing order than banking on the dy/dx and strength of materials the university taught me.

My children will all be enrolled in one training school or the other from their JSS1 (based on the orientation given to them and based on what they choose to learn) and whenever they are on long break. As their dad, I will make sure they balance these skills perfectly well with academics.

Don't get me wrong tho, education is great but the best thing to do for a child is teaching that kid how to make it in life. Apparently, our educational system teaches one how to be dependent and that is why we have hundreds of thousands of job seekers out there.

Now we emphasize on how important education is and then push all our kids to school. Some of them excel in their academics and we love, cherish and shower them with gifts while we despise those ones who don't perform well in school. We've never asked ourseleves questions like, what if the ones taking first position lacks the practical prowess and ability to get things done while the supposed "dull" one might be a practical guru and his brains tend to pick up moving objects better than stories on text books?

I don't know why some readers can just distinguish between factual and speculative journalism. Virtually everything that we have read in the above report was based on nothing other than reporters' speculation. Too much of speculations and assumptions distort facts.

Not until the list of all ministerial nominees are out, no one can surely say who a prospective minister is and who is not. But if Falana and some other technocrats like Pat Utomi are indeed nominated to be ministers in Buhari-led government, infact a new dawn has come. These are the men of intellect whose pedigrees are unquestionable.

I have always been expecting one day that Pat Utomi will be given a privilege to serve this country again in his full capacity as a minister of economic planning, because I have, on many occasions, read some of his brilliant publications on economic planning and development. He among several other technocrats will be a blessing to us.[/quote]I remember back in B.school during MBA days, 2 months to the completion of the program, we had a class Pat Utomi facilitated. Honestly I still keep wondering till date if God gave some people a different category of micro-chip filled brain...........His concept of "knowledge capital" has resonated in my head over six years since that class. I will never forget one advise he gave. He admonished us to read wide and deep, as we will need the knowledge, at many strategic points in life. He gave a classic example of how we can leverage on knowledge to command respect during business cocktail discussion.

He has been an evangelist of leadership and his LVC series have been a his weapon. I will be so happy if he's made the minister of Economic Planning.........

Meanwhile, I see my school has started the trend of "donating" brains as ministers to the federal government. Madam Mobola just left and Prof. Utomi to follow.......

hinwazaka: An economist who does not know the true debt service ratio in the country from 1960-2007 is no economist. Imagine an economist saying that we had paid our debts several times over before 2007. Henry Boyo is nothing but a fraud. As at 1997, our official external debt stock, stood at $27.012 billion. How in gods name, Mr boyo said we have serviced all our debts, with a sober mind is puzzling. He is in no way of NOI's standard. Why doesn't he go and get an appointment in world bank. If he could not see the brilliance behind, Madam NOI's economic strategy, then he should ask for a refund from his alma mata. What a joke.
It is entirely possible that Mr Boyo was off the mark in claiming that Nigeria had paid off its debt "several times over". I doubt if he has any valid evidence to support such claim. I, personally, do not think the corrupt military governments paid off the debt.

Having said that, I think it is completely uncharitable to dismiss all the other points raised by Boyo. You claimed that you read the whole article but then allowed your bias and prejudice to determine what you comment on.

As someone with a fair amount of Economics & Finance background, I can tell you that Boyo raised very salient points. He may have gone overboard in criticizing NOI.

Maybe you should comment on some of the other points he raised such (1) rational for the balloon debt repayment (2) why did our debt go up again even with a higher oil price (3) Inflation, Interest rate, Unemployment, Exchange rate (4) Diversification of the economy (5) Subsidy payments (6) 70% budget recurrent expenditure (7) Depletion of foreign reserves and ECA, etc.

I'd be glad if you can deepen the debate by commenting on those issues. Baralatie is also encouraged to desist from trolling the thread with that long article.

It never pays at the latter days.

1. The same Ogar that said APC leaders arrested in Ekiti were arrested for wandering (a law that has been expunged from our books since the 80s)
2. The same Ogar that was called to defend her position that APC hacked into Inec website, yet INEC replied that their database has no links to their website

For me the case is beyond power corruption and failure of institution. I think the people's voice should also be more vociferous when the state apparatus breaks down. How could we have watched Ogar desecrate our sensibilities and we let it slide?
