Drekaz: Guess going to Google to get this link is the smartest thing you have done in your life. "And all I did was to google". So setting up a committee is tantamount to establishing tertiary institutions? And he set up the committee in April, barely a month to the expiration of his tenure. If he was so bent on creating those institutions and taking credit for them, why not do it at the beginning of his second tenure at least and make sure it comes to fruition before leaving office? How do you people think sef? He did not create one institution, rather six, in a state that has 5 institutions already with ALL of them suffering from gross underfunding. You just wake up every morning and go online to believe every trash you see without discernment. Its actually pitiful that people dont use their God given brains anymore, to think it was given to them free of frigging charge, quite unfortunate. Well by your "standards" I'm better....unlike you yet to do anything smart. |

CodeTemplar: You are free to take it as anything you want. Abuja alone makes a mockery of Lagos. You hardly see senseless disorganisation you see in Lagos in Abuja. It is the adjoining states like Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi that introduce disorderliness to Abuja. Let small Lagos with huge earning improve on her road network alone. It would have been more honorable if you can articulate your argument in a logical manner and not resort to sentimental hues and cries. I see you have lagos. You're so upset that you cannot make a meaningful comparison |

CodeTemplar: The new IMO Governor might have reversed the moves of Rochas out of bitter politics but I support the move and think it is the right thing to do. We need a blend of quality and quantity in Education and not all those mushroom learning centers Governors are creating 1 or 2 to the end of a 8 year ms stay. 1. You support a move done out of bitterness? You support a move that was not backed with any iota of explanation to show the benefits vs alternative? 2. Quality and Quantity education? pls tell that to the marines. This is just the same ole excuse that do not allow states to grow. 3. It would have even been honourable had Iheadio refered the issue of the creation of 6 universities and 4 polytechnics to a committee of seasoned educationist and business professionals to look at the feasibility and otherwise and advise him. This decision and approach is so amateurish and looks pretty bad. 4. Finally does Imo want to progress or retrogress? The world has moved on from the foolish politics of destroying your predecessor's works. You end up being consumed. Ambode will testify to this. The people are now aware that it is them you're spiting. Ihedioha by this action is spiting the people and not Rochas. |

dingbang: Look at the stupid comments I am reading on nairaland today. The reason why lagos is the only state that is working is because of succession, you will not see Sanwo Olu tearing down structures that Ambode built but starting from where he stopped, same thing ambode did after Fashola.
But what do you have in other states, total nonsense! Bros, You don't need to come to Lagos before we address something that not only does not make sense, but turns logic on its head. Olagunsoye Oyinlola created Osun State University with about 6 Campuses. Aregbesola came, he argued that it was too expensive to run 6 campuses and that all should be consolidated into one. He referred this to the Wole-Soyinka led education summit. This was further escalated to virtually all stakeholders concerned. At the end of the day Aregbesola lost the debate and 6 or so campuses still remains. I would have thought there was a strategy in the creation of the 6 Universities and 4 Polys with each to serve a specific purpose. What was wrong with the strategy, Ihedioha did not address. How will it affect Imo people? NO? But it must be about eliminating any trace of Rochas. This is just a case of biting the nose to spite the face. |

How wrong ! A school that is not fully balanced as a polytechnic , is upgraded to a university , all in the name of achievement listings , and conferring positions , Yaba college of technology for instance, even tho it's been paraded , as the best polytechnic in Nigeria and on several occasions has been poised to assume a university of technology status , it still remains a polytechnic ... polytechnics and universities serve different purposes , and if not for the Inferiority complex amongst Nigerian students , no one is above the other , if every polytechnic is been upgraded to a university how will the students ,who wish to attend polytechnic cope , we have enough universities already , govt should work on improving the ones on ground , not creating new ones from struggling polytechnics !
Good move from Ihedioha ! See needless hate, misinformation and propaganda
The former governor created 6 universities, 4 polytechnics and even free education on top.
Stop exaggerating and quit acting as if he eliminated the only polytechnic in the state, you are ill-informed. Ill-informed did you say? Me I see willful ignorance with spices of "arrogance" and "not-so-intelligent" submissions. |

An average Igbo man takes care of his woman, its what gives them pride so you had hear sad stories unlike the hausas where the young girl could be the 4 wife. Madam, the point you miss is simple. We are not in discussion of "an average igbo man" or "an average Hausa man". Such discussions are should be left out of intellectually sound debates. We are talking about what is legal. Secondly I do not see any sense in an overt generalisation that does not even buttress your point. If anyone is having sexual or marital relationship with a minor, it is illegal. |
Politics › Re: Court Orders INEC To Issue Certificate Of Return To Okorocha by mapet: 3:35pm On Jun 07, 2019 |
garfield1: Give me some minutes Section 68 (a,b & c) of the Electoral Act ( with its amendments) provides that “ the decision of the Returning Officer on any question arising from or relating to-(a) unmarked ballot paper; (b) rejected ballot paper; and (c) declaration of scores of candidates and the return of a candidate shall be final subject to review by a tribunal or court in an election petition proceedings under this Act” Section 75(2) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (with its amendments) states that “where the Commission refuses and, or neglects to issue a certificate of return, a certified true copy of the order of a court of competent jurisdiction shall, ipso facto, be sufficient for the purpose of swearing in a candidate declared as the winner by that court. A combined reading and construction of the above two cited provisions of the Electoral Act make it luminously clear that any decision of a Returning Officer on the declaration of scores of a candidate and the return of a candidate shall be final, and same shall be subject to review by a tribunal or court in an election petition proceedings. It is our humble submission that if a Returning Officer, upon making a declaration, takes a “decision” to report an alleged coercion and compulsion to make a declaration to INEC, that report, which is an inextricable part of result declaration, can validly lead to a decision not to issue a certificate of return to an alleged winner of the election. It is submitted that the decision not to issue a certificate of return qualifies as one of the “decision of the Returning Officer on any question arising from or relating to …..declaration of scores or return of a candidate…” within the meaning and intendment of Section 68 of the Electoral Act. Section 75(2) is even more instructive. The subsection recognises that INEC may “refuse” or “neglect” to issue a certificate of return and that in that case, a certified true copy of an order of court shall be sufficient for the purpose of swearing in a candidate that may be declared as the winner by that court. What this subsection implies is that upon refusal or neglect by INEC to issue a certificate of return, a court action (election petition) may be filed by a person so declared but denied a certificate of return, to seek declaratory reliefs that he is the winner who should be issued the certificate of return. Until such an order is obtained, INEC, as the election management body, and pursuant to its statutory and administrative powers may, for good cause and compelling reasons, withhold a certificate of return. Bros, Everything I put in blue are either yours or a lawyer's argument and not the section of the constitution. I am looking for a place in the constitution that establishes the criteria for INEC to declare result and subsequently withhold it. This two section you quoted does not state the criteria |

BananaTree:
funmisticqueen: : in essence you want him to put someone else's daughter to subjugation and poverty so you can claim man of the house.
Op, there is no pressure to marry, if you are complaining about bills then you are not as financially. stable as you would have us believe. Sending her to school is something you ought to do because you want to with no strings attached, not because you want to marry her, if you marry her now, she won't have enough experiences to upgrade her life, she will always be your shadow. But then that is what you want.
If you can't wait for her to mature a little, then you don't really love her at all. let her choose you, don't pressurize her You're simply not being honest or practical. There is no free lunch anywhere. It's either someone is paying directly or indirectly. Selfishness is engrained in the nature of man. No one does anything for God, though, they may not admit it like you may eventually do after reading this but on critical evaluation, there is always more. It is not even selfishness. Why should the OP "invest" his time, money and emotion in something that can potentially end up a waste? |

fascia: This is somehow tricky. Though maturity differs but I think she's still young, she definitely doesn't know what she want. Let her experience life small before she is tied down with marriage. Let her explore on her own at lest you did too.. So she won't regret loosing her youth to marriage.
Concerning education, any contribution you make there should be considered a donation or investment In a person you care about, love as u said.this should be done with no aim of getting anything back, even marriage. Don't make it a blackail or bondage for her. Let her know you see in a her a future partner and u love her and it her decision to marry you or not... Let her choose u it's easier that way. You can pay for her first 2 years in school, preferably pay part and let her parents do the rest, afterall she's their child.
Consider the 2 years a courtship/dating...it will shed more light on if you love each other/compactibility.at the end of the 2nd year ,you can both decide if you want to marry each other, you that claim to love her now might think differently later. Use the 2 years to develop yourself more financially, you would be surprise what you can do with proper motivation.
Lastly I understand time is not a commodity you can afford but anything worthwhile take time, effort and hardworking. It's marriage it has to be done well. My 2 cent I like your "humane" submission to a large extent........but 1. Life is not always as simple. If her parents cannot afford to send her to school, then she probably will cross to another trajectory. The life she "will explore" may be different (probably more turbulent, tortuous and worse off) 2. "Investment in someone you care about"? Bros, we are human, and pardon me if I say this is not "Bible Story". Donation, yes, I can agree with....but the big question Why will he be busy "donating" when he should focus on finding a wife, which is his primary objective? Besides, the world had become harsher and stories of people who made those "investments" in the past discourages one from recommending such. In classic Yoruba setting when dating couples are about to be separated especially if one of them is travelling abroad, they commit in one form or the other (engagement or marriage) |
