Romance / Re: Why Most Relationship Fail Woefully by marabout(m): 3:04pm On Jan 30, 2013
People are blinded by the wrong things.

Wrong priorities when chosing a partner.

You soon find out that the pointed nose, pert backside, head light bossoms, nice complxion, fine 4 x 4, fat income etc cannot make up the flaws of the person you've pitched your tent with.

Being inconsiderate, too proud, no shared dreams, no common purpose. Treating your partner the way you won't like to be treated. In fact, disbeying God's basic instructions.

These and more are the reasons.

Properties / Re: The Politics Of Cement Pricing May Prevent Many Nigerians From Building A House! by marabout(m): 2:34pm On Jan 30, 2013
Well, Mr Knight, we're always taken for granted in Naija. No government to defend our corner sadly.

I have an ongoing project and I don't intend to wait (if not for money) because I don't think cement, rod, aluminium, granite, or anything will really ever be cheaper. There will be a few gimmicks here and there BUT prices will always go up medium term to long term.

May GOD heal her. Welldone Fash and Lasgidi Government.

I wonder when these Nollywood people are going to set up a fund especially to help veteran actors who selflessly paved the way for these wayward, limelight-hugging ones they have these days.

They'll rather go to funerals to smile and pose for the camera, that is if they manage to take time off fighting for Actors' Guild positions.

Yes, I have to rant here.

A cure for HIV is too monumental for one Prof to just publicise without details of proper pre-clinical and or clinical trials. Any drugs development researcher should surely know the procedure. Nobel Prize stuff AND B$LLIONS. Even a pharmacology graduate student would know the process.

Such announcement ought to be backed by details of patent/regulatory authorities approval or notification. His university authorities should be aware and those who sponsor his chair too as a prof (if applicable).

BUT then our government bodies are adept at frustrating talented people. Maybe some people were trying to steal it from him and he quickly announced it. I cannot imagine a professor just risking his reputation like that.

2good: Imagine a married man that have to take care of rent, children school fees, feeding, clothing and also give his wife allowance. In the midst of all these immediate family responsibilities, other extended family members still expect him to dole out money to them like he doesn't have personal problems that he's thinking about.
The expectation from a successful African man is just too much and can cause alot of depression on a man. I used to compare myself with fellow white colleagues who earn thesame salary with me and can afford to go on travel and vacation round the world while i have to think of people to give money to every month. We have alot of problems in Africa and the consequence is people struggling to make money any how possible just to avert insult from the society.

A lot of working women who contribute little to immediate family upkeep (and can be generous outside) will not know this. Any moderately successful African man has lots of problem coping with lots of relatives who rely on him as if he was the "local social benefits office" or family ATM.
Family / Re: Are Female Children Generous Than Males? by marabout(m): 5:13pm On Jan 05, 2013
Depends on your experience! My experience is the opposite.

A lot of women are having wahala with their men because the men are thought to spend too much on their siblings/parents. A female relative is currently complaining bitterly. Her sisters-in-in-law don't care.

For decades now I (male) have been left to shoulder family responsibilities that I even married late in life.

Meanwhile female siblings and their husbands are building new houses (Thank God for them) but all think I pluck money in diaspora. Them no send anyone.

2012 was really tough: medical bills, funerals, school fees for relatives. Thank GOD for providing the money sha.

Crime / Re: Nigerian Girl Killed In Rome, Italy by marabout(m): 6:11am On Dec 14, 2012
I guess most making comments and flexing their bigotry base their comments on hearsay and innate tribalism/bias.

I have noticed the increase in our women mainly of Edo stock(but not exclusively) plying this horrible trade in France, Italy, Spain etc in the last two decades.

Just over 22 years ago, this trade was dominated by ladies from our West African sister country that like to beat Nigeria in football games! I saw them with my own eyses.

We used to pity them and boast that our women cannot degrade themselves to this level. Now we know better.

As the economy worsened and many people wanted to do "Andrew" and check out, young women too became vulnerable to exploitation including prostitution home & abroad. France has very strict penalty for traffickers where it is seen as modern slavery.

Every major city in Naija: Lagos, PH, Abuja, Enugu, Ibadan, Benin, Jos, Kaduna etc have loads of prostitute both formal and informal ones.
How many times do we read here on line how a married Lagos woman died having sex with a neighbour in a hotel, or how one man died on top his neighbour's wife in another hotel after paying for their regular sex there.

Scores of Africans & Nigerians are being murdered in the Sahara desert, die of hunger/thirst, drown in the med sea and we're here doing as if everything is well at home.

Cynthia came from a respected home and was murdered callously in her own country.

Looking at many of the replies here especially from some ladies, I am now convinced that there should be an affordable over-the-counter DNA test kit. This must be ONE OF THE MAJOR REASONS why 30 to 50% of babies don't belong to their supposed biological fathers.

So you mean lots of women are married to men they don't have any iota of romantic love or feeling or attraction towards just because he has the means/affluence to provide security? How can you spend your lifetime just tolerating a wife/husband?

So when you now meet the "RMD" of your dreams, you shag him and pass the pregnancy off as your husband's/official boyfriend's?

Yes, many of our grandmothers/fathers were possibly match-made by their families BUT that was a time when people had strong moral fibre and believed in instant justice from Sopana, Sango, ancestral deities etc, for infidelity and they were held in check.

On the other hand, Naija people are very pragmatic and practical hence the many "amala, bread-and butter & opportunist" replies that carefree should marry him.

@Carefree,

I feel you. I had an experience with a fine girl like that. A work colleague. I took her like a sister and always told her my mind. Things like what girls do wrong when chosing a man. I never knew that she had gone through many of those things (I later found out from someone).
I didn't know she was in love. She couldn't conceal it anymore and began to declare it in proverbs, suddenly bringing food for me, giving me undue attention, staying behind after her shift finished, looking unhappy when I was chatting with other girls at work.
A colleague asked me "boy, when are you marrying this girl?" I was shocked. The colleague told me the girl had confessed to another colleague that she was in love.

Here was the problem. I actually had a crush on her sister who sometimes came to see visit her at work! She on the other hand never attracted me. When her food and attention became too much, I called her and said that she's the most wonderful girl BUT I wouldn't want to start something I cannot finish and it would be unfair to use her.
She was not herself for several weeks. She looked sick and seemed to lose weight.

I got another job a few months later. I never saw her and her sister again.

GURL, If you don't have any feelings for him, don't even start it.

Events / Re: Meaning Of RSVP On Invitations by marabout(m): 2:16pm On Nov 05, 2012
Isla Jenmi: What Does RSVP Mean When You See it on an Invitation? hehehe i caught y'all on this one, most people would be saying to themselves rice stew very plenty abi? well you are wrong RSVP means nothing like it..Let's Clear Up the Confusion Over the Phrase "RSVP"..you can thank me later....

This tip should help hosts and guests alike, because there seems to be a lot of confusion about the meaning of the term RSVP and what guests should do if they receive a request for them to RSVP.
I hear more and more often, and have found in my personal experience, that hosts often do not receive receive responses to their invitations. Therefore, hosts can't tell how many guests plan to attend their parties, even if an RSVP is clearly requested. This could mean either one of two things. First it could mean that rudeness is a growing trend in our society. Or, as I would prefer to believe, people no longer understand what the term means. Assuming the best, and that the reason guests don't RSVP to an invitation is a case of ignorance, not rudeness, I will clarify this for the record.
What RSVP Means
The term RSVP comes from the French expression "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond". If RSVP is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party. It does not mean to respond only if you're coming, and it does not mean respond only if you're not coming (the expression "regrets only" is reserved for that instance). It means the host needs a definite head count for the planned event, and needs it by the date specified on the invitation.

Why It's Inconsiderate Not to RSVP
An incomplete list of respondents can cause numerous problems for a host including difficulty in planning food quantities, issues relating to minimum guarantees with catering halls, uncertainty over the number of party favors and difficulties in planning appropriate seating, among other things.
So the next time you see RSVP on an invitation you receive, please call your host and respond promptly.

So what are you waiting for...THANK ME NOW....LOL

http://islamiyyahconsultancyservices..com/2012/11/what-does-rsvp-mean-when-you-see-it-on.html

Most Africans are not used to the idea of having to tell your host if you will come or how many of you are coming. If you call a party, be ready to feed the whole town! No be you get money to throway.
Even some people who write RSVP on their invitation cards don't even know what it means!
