We should have left the era of 2weeks voters registration. Why not take a cue from the sim card registration exercise, all we need is INEC registration centres all over the country where anybody can register and be given a registration number, the INEC database can access other databases like MTN, Zain and co along with Immigrations responsible for International passports. With this once you are registered your data is stored immediately in d database, if you try to register again once you place your fingerprint your previous data will show up so that eliminates multiple registration. On election day anywhere you are irrespective of where you registered once you give your registration number your data appears and can be confirmed by your thumbprint before you are given a ballot paper to vote. This type of arrangement would allow registration of voters from october to december, and voters can register anywhere and vote anywhere the data can be used in the future for identification could be sold to banks and other financial institutions, that would be in a case where a person has to cash a cheque he can give his registration number and then is asked to place his thumb on a thumbprint reader. This is not difficult to achieve!!! |
Playmode this is not a group for players you can try the romance or entertainment sections. Beaf sometimes you dont have to answer your critics, silence would be better instead ofrepeating a single fact over and over like they were some deaf dudes u were talking to. monkeyleg:There can never be a best person for the president, Obama couldnt have been the best in the whole of America or even Ghanas President, but its always about who can play the right politics to deliver the office to him. Beaf does not have a blind support but a patriotic zeal to see D emergence of the Nigerian Obama and no amount of blackmail will discourage him, Thumbs up beaf, eventhough we had been on opposite divide during the Yaradua saga. To the topic, what is the purpose of the ECA? The ECA was set up for the rainy day, and the rainy day could only be decided by the president, so if Jonathan declares that we are in the rainy season why should we lose sleep. The problem now is that funds were given to govs to build shelters and provide umbrellas but they had decided to build personal estates and leave the people in the rain, so the man who approved the disbursal isat librty to invite the EFCC to investigate. Jonathan did nothing wrong in sharing the ECA the wrong doers are the govs who have used the money carelessly. Let us the ordinary Nigerians support Jonathan for 2011 so that those who have tried to undermine him by stealing money meant for their states can be dealt with. Its high time we concentrate on our LG chairmen and govs because if these guys can improve by just 30% we would not be bothering the FG. Goodluck Jonathan for President |
y do we always have to get personal on this forum? it is so immature and it is the problem of our nation we leave issues and tackle personalites instead.what a pity! |
Gbawe:Gbawe why dont we wait and see Sept 18 is just 14 days away. El rufai said Ribadu has all it takes to be president does not imply that Ribadu will or should be president by 2011, If Ribadu ever wants to become a president of Nigeria in his life time he should know that this is not the time to contest, support jonathan now and in 2015 you can ask him to return you the favor. Obama did not contest against an incumbent and he totally supported a candidate who lost in 2004 but he made a name for himself in the opening speech he gave in campaign for Kelly, and also made a name in his performance at the Senate, Ribadu can start his political career from the senate or even his state assembly and let us see what he has to offer. |
The problem on this forum is how people just love to antagonize our rulers/leaders as the case maybe. I was a staunch supporter of Yaradua even in his illness, what we were saying then was that there was no need to declare a human being permanently incapacitated and relieve him of his office but we can give his vice president full powers but whenever the president returns he would take back his seat and can reverse all that his vice did in his absence. Now Jonathan is president people are accusing him of being naive, a man who understands the Nigerian politics and played it right by not allowing his emotions get in the way wen his boss was ill and his subsequent ascension to office of Ag President after arm twisting the govs into accepting. No matter what Gbawe and co thinks this naive young man will win the elections free and fair because the first thing u need to defeat him is a solid alternative platform and uptil this moment there is none, secondly you need a credible candidate on that solid alternative platform. So a Duke on the LP platform is no contest and an Atiku within the PDP is a lost case a Buhari on the 35 party alliance is also bound to fail, If we get a Duke/Ribadu on the alliance platform then Jonathan has a contest. This is politics as it is in Nigeria not ghana or USA. |
Can anyone imagine this alliance pushing forward Donald Duke and Ribadu as President and Vice. Then I will be prepared to campaign for Donald Duke against Jonathan because he will then be having a platform that can deliver the presidency to him and this is what politcs should be about. Buhari can be conceded some Ministerial slots and Gov tickets for his loyalists under the alliance other parties too would be given positions based on their contribution and in a case where they could not clinch the presidency they should be able to have a sizeable portion in the Senate, House of Reps and the Gov forum where the PDPs influence will begin to be curtailed and if PDP fails to sit up by the next dispensation their 60yr dream and ambition would come to an end. Patience my fellow Nigerians is very important at this time as PDP is about to implode we must be careful before we replace them with a bigger and worse evil. Dont get me wrong my support still lies with Goodluck Jonathan for President 2011!!! |
, person wey dey soak garri get Plan, |
@Ndu chucks, yes Dokpesi is free to support anyone and is entitled to vote but as an owner of a broadcast station he can not take the job of campaign manger for any candidate because that would affect his reportage |
Ondo boi OBJ is only better than Abacha in our history I would give mine to Buhari, If he had been allowed to rule for only 3yrs we would have been better off by now |
Why do we consider the funds meant for celebration a waste because there are other pressing needs. Maybe we need to ask ourselves this question, the amounts earmarked and setaside for roads have they been utilized and properly utilized same goes to all other sectors. Nigeria can only be 50 once in a life time and being 50 is worth celebrating, whether we celebrate or not, would not affect the budgeted amount for infrastructure, as a matter of fact if they celebrate some jobs would be created for Nigerians jobs that would be lost if we decide not to celebrate and the amount earmarked for celebration would only be embezzeled in convincing manner once diverted to another use. My main concern is to see prober utilization of the money budgeted for the celebration. |
Dokpesi has no moral standing, I said it when he came out championing Uwais report theren had to be something more than meet the eye. They insisted that the president should not appoint the INEC chair more than first line disbursement for INEC even when Yaradua stood that SIECs be scrapped and only one body be responsible for all elections so that LG elections can be coordinated properly they were only looking for their avenue to influence who comes in next as INEC chair so as to use him to rig out the incumbent. But If Dokpesi must support a candidate does it have to be IBB, I am so disappointed. I hope NBC is watching, the moment it is official the first thing will be to withdraw the AIT licence and block it from broadcasting, because the media is supposed to be unbiased in the election process. |
He is a total failure even in the GSM, the part he could have played to secure a B was if the NITEL sale had been successful and we still have NITEL/MTEL driving the competition to bring the price of communication low. Any idiot who makes it to the presidency can offer licences to private telecoms company to operate in Nigeria but only an intelligent and serious minded individual as president can solve the problems of NITEL and relaunch them making them a strong brand in Africa. |
The problem is our people dont like it when Govt wants to sincerely solve problems. Their monetisation has been approved now Govt is saying let us verify who we are paying to and these people who lead the associatio and are stakeholders in GHOST WORKERS SYNDROME, now see that a large chunk of the revenue they have been fighting for would be lost now decide to play dirty and rough, arm twist the govt to pay all on its PHCN payroll. The government of Yaradua and Jonathan has tried in trying to clean out the corruption in that sector because Yaradua of blessed memory discovered that funds were not the real problem of PHCN instead it was corruption hence the whole clean up, the truth is that now when govt releases a billion to PHCN, PHCN receives a billion, the problem PHCN had last year was its inability to utilize its funds, they had a very dismal utilization and was queried by the president. I know that there is bright light at the end of this tunnel most especially once Jonathan wins the 2011 election. |
As much as i dislike Obj, but he is speaking the truth here, I think what some one has said is very correct, state govs should pay its federal representatives and they should be placed on a salary scale in their respective civil service, then they would be more interested in workers agitation and when they feel that they need an increase it would translate to an increase in govt workers pay. |
All Sanusi haters pls quit the hate, the guy is doing a great job. He has said the truth again, how do we develop when manufaturing only contributes 4% to GDP, he said it "we are all guilty" including himself. What more can he do, sacked reckless bank executhieves and bailed the banks out to save innocent depositors and ill educated and advised investors, eased out corrupt bank owners who believed that depositors funds are their private property. The time has come for real banking!!! |
I think they are trying to catch late in the market, Etisalat is sweeping massively to pick up their customers, customers have their MTN lines for receiving calls while using etisalat to make calls to all networks, so simple solution if you aint happy with MTN get an etisalat and enjoy reducded tarriffs to all networks, and the competition could make MTN think of really free offers, but truth of the matter is nothing is absolutely free. I will make enquiries about the free weekend calls it would save me a lot of credit on calling my lady at least reserve importrant talks till weekend. |
cre8tivity who told u nortrhereners are hell bent on rotation or zoning, this may be against them today but when they kip winning subsequent elections thru bloc votes then no one would be able to complain. be that as it may, Jonathan must remain president beyond may 2011 |
I saw this piece on my fb page nd ran down 2 NL 2 chec if smone had posted it here because its just 2 explosive not 2 b discused in a forum lik dis. Duke hit d nail rite on d head and truly we won't move 4ward as a nation if pple who had ruled/ruined us in d past dnt come out 2 explain d dynamics of d probs nd challenges in simple english. Duke was on point wen he described SNG nd CNP as wolly eyed dreamers because their approach rily can't change d nation. The truth b said nt much can be done wit respect 2 d 2011 elections other than d FG releases money 2 INEC promotly nd ensures dat RECs get their monies on time but we still need 2 start lukin beyond 2011 and dats y I wld prefer Jonathan continue in 2011. Dukes idea on sms votin is just a raw idea so we can't start criticisin it instead we shld be fine tunin it. Like d current registration of sim cards nationwide can hav a gr8 role 2 play. Maybe another topic shld be started 4 dat. By and large Duke is a presidential material but even he knows dat dis system cannot produce him I'll advice he works wit GJ 4 2011 by 2015 he can unseat him! |
Oshiomole is a genius, some people on this forum cannot appreciate what they are looking at because they were not there before all this. When I first saw the pics I laughed it off saying its not Edo state somebody was just joking but after going thru it I know it is actually benin and it is unbelievable, if you show this pics to anyone who graduated from UNIBEN within 2001 and 2009 he would find it difficult to believe, those places never looked like a place that can be turned to something like this I neva imagined any where in Benin or Edo could be like this. for those shouting that the govt shld provide jobs one question the redesignin and reconstruction of ring road was it done by spirits or aliens, let us relax there will never be a time we wont have unemployed people in our midst and he who has started this kind of work in Edo can do much more. Three gbosa for the action governor for anyone who is not happy with this development pls u can go hide in a casket |
So what? Ekhueme said the PDP agreed to zoning, is the agreement now bigger than the party? NO. An agreement between people cannot be greater than the people who made it in the first place. Now let us all try and understand the spirit and intent of the agreement. The agreement was made to make everybody feel a sense of belonging in the country, that is if a zone has produced the president another gives the Vice, Senate President and all other offices are shared so that everyone is a part of the federal govt. The constitution allows any individual as president a two term tenure of 4yrs each, so in making the arrangement the PDP agreed that if a region produces a president and the president performs he should be supported for a 2nd term, even in this the candidate should not be imposed. Under the rotation formular every region is entitled to a dedicated time when it would be their chance but if the candidate on getting there fails to perform and an opposition may sweep it out PDP can change this candidate and bring another candidate from any of the other zones, this is why there was no defined zoning timetable, because we have to check which zone is having a marketable candidate to sell. So a candidate is entitled to a two term he is not supposed to hand over to a brother from his own geo political zone, so Obasanjo could not hand over to any southerner after his 8 yr tenure and if Yaradua had stayed for 4yrs and decided not to contest he would and should not hand over to someone from his geopolitical zone because he has taken the slot already and in the overall interest of the nation he should move it south then the south can give a region that is in queue that is the South west would be excluded because they had just finished servin in that capacity. A region is not entitled to 8yr tenure but to the opportunity of producing the leadership of the government which is a minimum of 1 term and max of 2 terms. I dont see the reason for the noise if the Ekhuemes insist that a northerner must be president come 2011 they should just produce the candidate and campaign for him we dont have to blackmail and intimidate any strong opponent that it is not their turn yet or when Ekhueme contested in 2003 if the delegates had changed their mind at the last moment and shift their support to himand given him the PDP presidential flag would he have rejected it and returned the flag to Obj? Food for him to think about. |
Osazee has every right to be frustrated he expected a better outing so now he can complain, the few minutes he played at the mundial I felt his impact and wouldnt lie about it just because we left at the group stage, even Italy and France had to leave at the group stage too. The eagles at the Wcup was better than the eagles at d nations cup, kudos for that should go to Lager-beer. I cant remeber the last time the eagles played any standard opponet and created chances taht idiots like yakubu could go away frittering, their play was better, Osazee maybe expected Lagerbac to have dropped Yakubu for Martins and allow him (Osazee) more play time. Be that as it may I was disappointed in the eagles I know because I didnt expect them to have held Argentina as they did and their brand of football at the tournament had class and showed a lot of teamwork but individual brillance and commitment was lackin. But WTF its only a game!!! one side must win and another lose, and for the side that loses there has to be an explanation for losing. |
Let us take a look at those debt list and ask ourselves how many of them was incured within 2007 to date. Most of the debts were incured by Obj and IBB, these are the things that Yaradua met on ground and had to resolve because the power stations we want to give credit to Obj for were never paid for, that the FG today is planning to pay means that work has been going on to ascertain the true positions of the debt situation, so we can at least make arrangements on how we will pay the debts and then the companies can sign new agreements with the govt on gas supply. Obj is the biggest fraud in this country!!! Where is all the money we made in 1999-2007. I know some of his loyalists will point to the debt relief from World bank, but I can assure you that with time we will understand more abt d debt burden, I wont be surprised If Obj refused to pay all d debts |
So are the nairaland experts saying no cause for alarm? |
Lagerbac has spoken the truth, I am sure that he did not anticipate that a striker would miss scoring in an empty net and that a footballer would go fighting on the pitch, whichever way I look at it i see it that the man tried, its been a long time Nigeria lost a match and I would feel they tried like in the Argentina match and it has never been that these particular set of players have ever made beautiful chances with so much expectation their games have always been drab when Amodu was in charge. So if Lagerbac says we need continuity and a man like kanu is been recommended I am sure it is because with a kanu in charge of the eagles the likes of strikers who cannot score against an empty goalpost would not make it into the team at major tournaments. |
Why dont we grant them amnesty! then camp them for orientation and training putting them on a monthly allowance of 100k a month since it seems their presence is worse than the acts of the militants. The Minister is a frequent visitor at the hotel in Wuse where the order was served and that is why the ladies are in that hotel are considering relocating, does this ring any bell? |
My contribution is to leave Jonathan alone, there wont be anyother 50th anniversary and if the young man has decidedto spend 10b then it may just be a way of boosting our tourism potential, also note that he plans a big fiesta. Yaradua, I will never forget, a man who returned home to have lunch after all the celebrations of victory at the 2007 elections was over and to his astonishment saw different types of food as if there was a big party going on, he had to ask that was he expecting guests!, they told him no, that he was to make his choice, the man went staright ahead and complained and told them never to waste food like that again but should get in touch with his wife to tell them what exactly he would eat. They brought a budget of 51b not 32b to Yaradua to host the U17 Wcup he asked politely that can they reduce the budget the officials laughed and said it was impossible, that was when he lost his temper and told them that he would rather not host the tournament than spend 51b on sports when a large percentage of his people are hungary. They paid his salaries and he compared it to what civil servant were earning and he said it was unjustifiable, he recommende for a paycut for himself and his aides, then set up a commitee to come up with a solution to the poor wages, that they should come up witha template that can be used to derive workers pay viz a viz the position of the economy so that workers would not have to protest before getting salary increase. Oh! Yaradua you left too soon now someone here tries to blame him for the Abuja runway, it was only in a budget proposal it had not even been approved by the NASS, then you would have seen a Yaradua not executing it, these are the reasons why you always have unspent funds returned because once you come up with unrealistic figures the man turns you back so Aviation could have say 50b for construction of an airpory, Yaradua says follow due process when they follow it say only 20b is expended with some pple still stealin the 30b saved would not be spent but eturned as unspent funds that was y Yaraduas administration was always having large amounts as unspent funds, because if you cant justify your spending and cannot go thru all due process no body will approve money for you. Yaradua rest in peace, Nigerians pray that those who have your interests last long in office to make a change. |
Paddy_lo you are just too much, you are a completely educated literate who is informed and uunderstands the dynamics of the modern world unlike beaf and co who are partialy educated illiterates who think they know but they actuall dont know. A lot of times I have had to complain about a set of people who I described as educated illiterates and it was termed an insult but I am sure you would have felt my pain when the only thing guys talk about is roads and electricity like these were the basics. The truth is that failure in Infrastructure is a symptom of failure in our nation, those are not the real problems, the Economy and good governance is key, a government is not supposed to celebrate road construction, because these are peoples job to do, in any advanced economy no govt would waste resources commisioning 100km of roads, although I appreciate where we are coming from but the earlier we pay more attention to the technical aspects like the 7points you raised then we would be able to appreciate developments in the nation. The problems Nigeria face as a nation today is the result of the hard work our senseless rulers over the past 25yrs had put in place, consider Babangida failing to improve on power when we had a good percentage of our population in the rural areas, then those in the urban areas enjoyed power, but now who is in the villages, nobody as everyone has run to the towns and cities to enjoy amenities like power but because laws, plans and policies on developing the power sector were not put in place that is why now we have degenerated to a generator economy and if we dont allow the present administration articulate the 7point agenda properly and align it with the vision20;2020 by 2020we may not even be able to run a generator economy, may be privatise the country so that foreign investors can buy it up and make it profitable!!!lol. Paddy my only disagreement with you is giving the states more responsibilities, the framework isnt there yet, look at water states are directly responsible for supplying water yet do we have good water supply in any of the states, Nigerians have learnt to sink their boreholes and use them, when I was growing up, you cant pay to get water even if you dont have but I guess we have privatised the sector so anyone who can sink borehole can as well make profit selling water from his house and these people pay no tax on this buisness. In my opinion if this administration can get the 7point agenda as a national agenda and national vision, adhere to the rules of the game as it is now, we can move a long way because Nigeria just needs to just do very little at it will be magnified, we call for electoral reforms, but then I ask does the 2006 electoral act permit for ballot snatching?, does it permit for scores to be announce from Abuja? we are disobeying the rules as it is now and that is the real problem, let us try and follow the rules then the rules that impede us let us follow the due process of amending those rules once we do that it would be impossible for anyone to corruptly enrich themselves and did I forget people like beaf should go back and really study so we reduce the number of half baked graduates aka educated illiterate or misinformed analyst!!! |
Chiddysville:like they care, oversight functions is another extortion function of the senate. |
@spone definitely not the northerner afta him and it is gud dat he has come out 2 defend himself nd as a firm believa in d rule of law I'll consida him innocent until declared guilty by a competent court of d rite jurisdiction. I wld hav prefered dat we assume accused corrupt public officials guilty until proved otherwise, this would have put d burden of evidence on they d accused because they are d ones who actually hav d original documents nd evidence dat cld be either used 2 nail them or absolve them. |
@Ibime, and is that an excuse? |
And all Yaradua critics hav no comment!! The man believed dat d ND was more important, the power sector reforms was more important, gettin consensus in deregulatin d petroleum sector was more important and not some lavish celebration of 50yrs of failed oportunities. Jonathan simply believes dat Nigeria will not be 50yrs old twice, so no mata which way it goes its all good, just shows d difference in temperaments nd passion 4 d nation. Jonathan believes dat we stil hav a reason 2 celebrate while Yaradua sees no reason 2 celebrate. This info may not be enuf 2 giv credit 2 d man but when u put it side by side with his takin a paycut, reducin d budget of U17 world cup championship, his call for d removal of immunity clause then we can c wat dat man meant 4 dis country. |
Is there a competition among our ministers to show who is more stupid or is an idiot competition among them. Y didnt he choose to ban corruption in his ministry premises alone then we would have something to watch out for, I KNEW THAT Aliero would turn out to be better than this amn who went straight ahead removing speed bumps just because his former colleagues demanded it. If he can use the police to rid them off the street then i wish him GOODLUCK |
