bentenny: It's actually very good and a temporary alternative to local electricity! However, you must be careful with those who offer you these equipments without finding out your total electric load and the number of time it will last!
Some have sadly been deceived into purchasing a solar inverter plus battery that didn't even last up to 5mins before it switched off!
For instance,if you have let's say a fridge,a number of bulbs and some appliances you use and it works very well when you put on your generator, that will give you an idea of your total load and the load capacity you will go for!
The next thing you will look out for is the time period you will keep enjoying the electricity before it goes off or alerts you for charging like your phone!
Have this in mind before asking for a solar inverter plus battery! Nice contribution. |

oloyemeji: I have the same setup as exactly like this except mine is just two batteries instead of 4 batteries, I install it last year January but recently the battery does not hold more power so by 11pm it will be down, my installer said i need to add more distilled water to the battery, and I am thinking of adding two more panels to make it 10 and also add two more batteries, what do you advice? The only plausible reason for your batteries running low by 11pm could be that you are using non energy efficient appliances which are gulping your stored energy. Have another solar installer take a look at your system again. I self educated myself on setting up my solar system by watching and reading plenty stuffs online. Having the knowledge of physics helped a great deal. |

yom2: still not an average man's deal You can start little by buying the items one after the other. I started with the panels first. Initially bought 6 then made it up to 10. Next, I bought the charge controller. I started off with a Safe power 24v 1.5kva inverter and have since upgraded twice more. Batteries came in last after wiring. Taking the project in one fell swoop may be a bank buster even for me. |

For the doubting Thomas's.
The time on the inverter is 10:21am.
Input panel voltage is at 14 already (remember: it's a 12v system)
Input current from the panels is hovering around 41.95A and above.

Pedrocross4568: You are missing the fact. The solar panels are used to power the batteries. The actual output is coming from the inverter. so the inverter is 3.5 kVA. all those home appliances you listed are powered by the the 3.5 kVA inverter.
What you should be worrying about is how long the power supply last, due to the fact he doesn't have enough solar panels to power the batteries and than again there is every possible that he still use grid to change the battery. If I had seen you contribution, I wouldn't have bothered replying him. To your worry. The truth is that I get a full charge (Float charge) even before 3pm on most days with the number of solar panels I have. Between 11am and 2pm, my generated wattage is like 900 averagely with current as high as 55 to 59A. My inverter can get so hot up to 45 degrees that I worry at times. All these I can pick on the epever screen monitor. But hey, it has been so for close to 6 years now and I have not burnt anything yet. I am totally off grid 100% |

GerogeI: This your claim get as I be. Most times a 300 watt rated panel will give you 50 to 100w effective power. So your 10 panels will give you 500W to 1Kw instant power. That's 1 pass my neighbour generator at best. More often your effective power is about 700W. AC is at least 1 hp, solar chest freezer is 100w, inverter fridge is 200w. Plus lighting ,TV, fan etc. There is no way 10 solar panels can power everything in your house. You are either supplementing from grid or running your home appliances one at a time.
Do not give peeps false expectation. Your effective power will be 10 to 20% of your installed capacity. I may not be an expert in the field of renewable energy and will not suddenly claim one. I think you assertion of basing my utilizable energy on my input set-up is flawed. You didn't consider my stored energy pool in arriving at your hypothesis. I pass my neighbour generator can never power a Phillips 1000w pressing iron but my array can conveniently carry it even when every other home appliance is running. Experts in the field should help out in this matter. |

I use a 3.5kva 12v kartel inverter and 4 220AH tubular batteries I connected in parallel to make 880AH.
I power virtually every thing in the house including an lg inverter AC for most of the afternoons , an lg inverter fridge/freezer and a bona solar chest freezer.
I've been fully off grid for going to 6 years by May and I don't have any regrets at all.
The installation was done DIY with little touch by my electrician. |

I can understand the government wants to create the market for their excess power.
With their great Ethiopia Renaissance dam (GERD) generating over 5000 megawatt of power in addition to their previous power generation of 5000MW (Total 10KMW), their decision is apt.
However, being a poor country at the brink of famine from a recent civil war complicated by years of drought, how many of their citizens have the financial muscle to purchase electric cars even the cheap variants from China. |

chicfarmer: The government needs to read the riot act to these cement boys. If importing cement is far cheaper than locally producing it, then the government may well call their bluff if they want to shut down. Compare the millions of artisans who would be left jobless because of the prohibitive prices of cement to the few thousands these cement manufacturers employ. Do the maths and see which is better.
Of course we don't want factories to shut down but if they become cogs in the nation's wheel of progress then they may pay the price. I can assure you that the construction industry is right now comatose because of this cement price crisis. Think of the Engineers, plumbers, painters, carpenters, iron benders, aluminium artisans, unskilled labourers etc who are stranded at home with no means of income. This cement issue deserves the strongest direct response from the government without caring whose ox is gored! I share your sentiments |
