its all about the automatic gearbox when idle and in drive the car will move especially when it flat and no handdrake reason being that the idle speed has torque that is making the torque converter engage the gearbox therefor the car moves (this happens inside the torque converter)

I tire. If only car manufacturers have started consulting oracles before and after production of cars

It has happened to me but not like i was out of the car. In my case the car move while doors were opened, all i had to do was to quickly pull the hand brake harder and it stopped. This happen on my 03 accord. Driving my friends 08 accord, i usally feel need to apply more pressure on brake at idle when AC kicks in.

Rpm increase from 850 to 950 is well enough to get a car moving if hamdbrake is no pulled tight.

No dispute about what you said. Your 03 accord throttle actuator is controlled mechanically are you aware?

I can happen especially on cars with electronic trottle.

Those cars usually increase rpm when engine power consuming parts of the car is activated such as A/C, power steering, cooling fan and headlights.

If he left his with hand brake pulled but not fully and the car running on A/C but compressor is clutch is not engaged, the car can overcome the hand brake as soon as thr clutch engages while he is not in the car. My office Toyota prado idles with ac off at 850rpm but as soon as ac engages it goes up to 950 and back down to 850 when it disengages.


The same thing happens when the steering is turned att idle.

So a car that is automatic and left at idle on drive can overcome the hand brake when rpm moves from 850 to 950 at AC clutch engagement.

This happened a few days ago. I just drove out from a friend's place trying to access a street at a T-junction. As I got close to the end of the street which was very sandy, there was one little boy pushing a wheel barrow containing a jerrican of water. He was trying to enter a fenced compound through a gate thereby blocking the way. I now came out of my car to help him push the wheel barrow from the way. Behold my car started moving. The guy driving behind me shouted ''Hey your car is driving itself ooo''Apparently I left the car in drive position before coming out. I wish one nairalander was nearly to bring you the live video. Sorry oo, no video but it was a sight to behold seeing my car driving away without me!

If you leave your car having an auto transmission on drive and you leave the car without stepping on the brake pedal its normal for it to move itself. If its on park and the car moves then bro you might want to consult the oracle to know why those withches and wizard are still after your car

I'll mention the range sensor to him today.

My biggest fear is whether he actually plugged each end of the cable to the appropriate socket (solenoid I think)

did u ensure mechanic replaced with appropriate cable and plug? What codes can u pull now. Maybe, he did not align the transmission range sensor well.

Was the harness replacement done correctly. How did he get another harness and was it the same as what originally came with the car. Colour matching is important for this nature of work

I was eagerly hoping you'd comment. Bro biko enlighten me more. Are you saying I should steer clear of the Rav 4? I was told the gear box cost about 45k to 50k. I really respect and admire your views on car talks.

If the gear box goes for that price don't you think the owner would have fixed his car

Yes he is right after several abuse. Perhaps you have not been using the right transmission fluid or you haven't changed yours in a long while. Most time gear box replacement is the way out

To restore your car back to factory way. Buy same compressor that came with your car (be it with the automatic clutch type or manual. If your car came with an automatic compressor and you install a manual type. The ecu needs correct feeds frm the compressor to determine fuel injection so as to compensate for load, if those values are wrong then you would be dealing with

1) high fuel consumption

2) rough idling when your Ac is put on

3) excessive wear on engine

I had a leaking compressor and want to change it. My Ac technician told me that for it to work, he will convert the mechanism of my Ac which is automatic to manual. I don't understand the reason behind this and want to know if it is a good idea to allow him go on with the conversion. Your advice and suggestion is highly needed. Thanks

I need some advice from experienced persons on Mitsubishi space wagon 2002/2003 model.

How economical is the car in terms of maintenance and fuel consumption?

Any typical common to this brand?

I will appreciate as much response as possible on this as I plan to get the ride by the end of this month (Tokunbo).

If you make your research well you would know personally that this car is an error in existence. From information it has got a factory recall. When you buy the ride thr first problem you encounter is a case where the doesn't rev pass a certain RPM. For the naija setting a conversion of engine is always done to counter this problem. Sometimes the problem could prevail from the accelerator pedal postion sensor. But if that doesn't solve it then a conversion of engine would be done. Dealt with 2 cases of this car and I can tell you a conversion of engine was done on the first about 2yrs ago and the second which is still recent is still being worked upon. Preferably you get another car

My Nissan Pathfinder 2001 model can't go beyond 120. I have changed the gearbox and airflow metre without any change. I have also worked on the exhaust to no avail. I have a Mitsubishi Outlander 2003, I have some teething issues with it.

Only been in Nigeria since May, about 145k kilometres on it. The car hardly gets used, in fact most of the year its just on a stilt.

1) When you start it in the morning, the car stalls/dies. You have to leave it to run for like a minute or 2 and then its fine. After that it runs fine for the whole day. If you want to move off after starting it, then you have to press the accelerator/raise it and quickly change to DRIVE then move off, then it will move off slowly.




2)
When the car is filled up with petrol, it just dies after starting it and moving off a few metres. You then have to start the car, raise it gently then move off. Once it stalls/dies once and you use the technique of gently raising it, then its fine.


3)
There is a service engine soon warning light coming up, when i checked it with a scanner. It appears the coolant sensor is bad. I had that changed and its still thesame.

I am not worried about the last issue, but the first 2 are the ones that worry me.

Was it only ect code that was pulled out of your computer box? Would advice you go for a much more advanced scanning first. Your engine coolant tempt sensor would cause hard start mostly in the morning and would make the car idle rough. Since its one of the sensor that is responsible for actual fuel injection. 1. the battery has a current rating of 12V 62AH. i want to believe it is in a good condition cuz even when it doesnt start d Rav4 it works with the camry.
2. sincerely I cannot answer dis sir but is there a way I can test dis? to confirm if it charges d ba3.
3. I have not had any after market gadgets installed.infact, when I noticed dis I even disconnect d security system thinking it was d cause of d battery drain.

Well from my experience if your amperage rating is 62amps. Am afraid that I might be too small for a 2006 rav4 considering the electrical components of the car. But before changing your battery which I haven't recommended yet. Confirm that your alternator is charging your battery but the best way to test that ia through the help of a multimeter for accuracy. Its ok if you call the numbers, would guide you through

There are a lot of factors that can cause this. I would highlight them in order of simplicity of repair

1) power source (battery), is your battery in a good condition with a voltage of 12.6v? What is the current amperage rating of your battery

2) is your charging system working effectly. I.e is your alternator charging your battery effectively?

3) do you have any after market gadgets installed on your car prior this development?

I would strongly recommend you look closely @ all I have written above although I strongly would pick number 2 but nevertheless check through all 3 points have given in the following order. In my opinion I do not think this is a parasitic drain since you said the battery voltage drains off after 3days if in a case within 24hrs then its obviously a parasitic drain so therefore in this case a parasitic drain test needs to be carried out.

I got a naija used 2001 tribute with a 04ford escape engine that has a terrible fuel consumption like a leaking pipe even as a V6. a technician friend had it scanned and got d following codes: po401, po161, po141, po125 and something abt d pcm.
anyway not surprised because all d O2 sensors aren't connected to d engine while d fan is connected directly to d engine. it picks immediately u turn on d engine.
I was told overheating usually associated with d vehicle brand was d reason for d direct fan connection while nothing concrete on d o2 sensors.
so far like six months now I haven't had an engine issue other than alternator, kickstarter and suspension issues which have bn attended to and I was advised to keep managing d engine that way.
but truly need ur advise on how I can bring d engine performance to normal and confident level for a long distant trip

Alternator. Hmmm!! Your charging system has been compromised. Evrytin mentioned would create a high fuel consumption. For this very car if your alternator has been changed to something else as against what originally came with your. My brother you are only compounding the car's problem. That's serious. Meaning there is a leakage some where or your oil is drying up. Go by what Gazzuzz said and if nothing positive. Next step is to run a comprehensive scan

What do you mean by you checking engine oil you found none? If this statement was true your engine should be knocked by now. Just go run a scan on your car

I hereby salute all my gurus in the house, u guys have always been my saving grace.
I got this 1999 VW sharan VR6 engine. I traveled for four months, when I came back I discovered the following issues :
1. Car becomes sluggish when gear two is engaged and does not Rev above 2000rpm.
2. When the fifth gear is engaged it doesn't Rev above 3000rpm.
3. All the power window buttons have refused to work except i wind down using d car key from outside , so also the climatronic a/c n radio have refuse to power on.
It's a manual whip.
All my ogas in the house save this small boy before Kazeem drain my weak account.

Good day sirs!

I think I need to run a scan on my car, as myself and my mechanic Av cleaned and changed the Idle air control valve sensor. I clean the Unit myself with TINA and petrol.

We cleaned the Air flowmeters too.

Yet the symptoms reduces but its still there.

When my mechanic drives the car I don't observe the Jerk in traffic reason been that he is rough wt driving so he smash the brake once and there wouldn't be any vibration or Jerk but if I smash the brake gently it tends to Ram down from 1 RPM to zero but later picks up without actually stoping.

2 things he proposed.

1. He said my car is OK that innitially the engine system works with the RPM above 1 which is true and I don't observe the Jerk them but it really consume fuel. So wen we reduce the slow run to exactly 1 RPM 2 days later the issue begin. He propose to increase the slow running and I reject immediately.

2. He said we should replace the fuel filter, pump, change the Idle control valve sensor.

I don't wanna beleieve increasing the slow running wil rectify the issue.

Stop wasting your time. Just go buy another throttle body. Your kazeem has led you in the wrong direction. If you knew what a thinner is, you wouldn't listen to his ill statement. Another op jumping from the frying pan to fire
